Who Said It: Ultimate Harry Potter Edition

Everybody loves the magical world of Harry Potter!

From the first book all the way to the seventh and beyond, J.K. Rowling has captured the attention and imagination of an entire generation. Everyone wanted to get their official letter of acceptance to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and attend school with Ron, Hermione and of course- Harry Potter. Whether a Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Slytherin or Ravenclaw. The epic battle between good and not-so-good was punctuated by heartfelt moments, hilarious stories of being an awkward teenager and of course, romance. Who could forget the Yule Ball, or Harry's brief romance with Cho Chang?

What about Quidditch- which is arguably the greatest sport that was ever invented for the printed page? Every detail of the wizarding world was lovingly crafted and we loved every second of it! We all love the characters from the Harry Potter universe, but how well do we remember some of their most iconic quotes? "Yer a wizard Harry."

Harry Potter was living a sad existence underneath the stairs at Privet Drive. His time with the Weasleys was not so fun for him, as he was treated as more of a servant than a son. That's why the news that he was a wizard was so amazing! Who was the first person to tell Harry Potter that not only was he special, that he was a wizard? Who remembers who Harry met first? "I knew you wouldn't be happy unless you were hunting Voldemort. Maybe that's why I like you so much."

This is something that was said to Harry Potter in the final book of the series. The person who said this to him was one of his nearest and dearest- a confidant who stood by his side throughout his journey at Hogwarts and his battle against Voldemort. Harry Potter winds up reuniting with this person after the epic battle of Hogwarts. Who remembers who made this touching statement to Harry Potter? This is exactly the sort of thing that we can expect the Boy Who Lived to have to deal with. Harry sure has gotten a lot of speeches like this in his time, which makes sense when the Dark Lord himself is out to get him and all of his friends. This particular phrase is endearing, sad, and on the nose though, meant to let them all know that doing what's right is definitely not always the easiest or most natural thing.

"We've all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That's who we really are."

In the fifth installment of the Harry Potter series, he meets someone who will become a close friend and trusted ally. This person was originally thought to be a villain but actually was framed by the real villain which was revealed at the end of "Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban". Question 5

"Dobby is free."

Dobby is one of the more pitiable characters in the Harry Potter universe. He belongs to a class of magical creatures who are treated terribly by wizards. In the second book, "Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets", Harry Potter and Dobby meet and he lets Harry know that he essentially a slave to a wizarding family who Harry is unfortunately familiar with. By the end of the book, Dobby has been given a sock and freed from his prediciment.

"I am what I am, and I'm not ashamed. Never be ashamed"

One of the biggest lessons that we can take from the Harry Potter books is that we should always be proud of who we are. As we learn a little bit more about the wizard and muggle universes, we discover that there is a certain set of wizards who think that muggleborns should not be allowed to practice magic. The quote above represents a rejection of that way of thinking, as anyone can practice magic and be a successful wizard.

"I think we've outgrown full-time education... Time to test our talents in the real world, d'you reckon?"

In "Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix" we meet Dolores Umbridge, pictured here. Umbridge was notorious for being very harsh with the students and not allowing them to actually learn how to defend themselves against dark wizards and the dark arts. She was highly disliked at Hogwarts and even was the catalyst for a student group known as "Dumbledore's Army". The quote above is in reference to her- a rejection of Hogwarts under the rule of Dolores Umbridge.

The witch pictured here is not one to mess with. She met Harry Potter in his first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and is known for being extremely clever, resourceful and strict. Although she was tough on her students, this witch is also extremely fair and singularly motivated to defeat Voldemort and restore order to the wizarding world. Who is this gifted and tough witch that told Harry Potter that he should not even try to boss her around.

SPEW, or The Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare was created by Hermione Granger and became popular with a subset of students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. This one is a little bit on the tough side and relates to a minor character who once served as the Minister of Magic. The quote refers to the Dursleys- Harry's aunt, uncle, and cousin. The Dursleys were notoriously mean to Harry Potter throughout much of the time that he lived with them. Once Harry got the acceptance letter for Hogwarts his whole world changed and he was able to escape the drudgery at the Dursley household. Who said it?

One of the members of The Order of the Phoenix, pictured here, is responsible for making this intelligent and empathetic comment about the value of human life. The comment was made in the final installment of the Harry Potter series, but it is a point that had been reinforced in many previous books and movies. This comment was made to Harry Potter, pictured above, by one of his enemies in the book and movie series. Everyone was always underestimating Harry Potter- at least in the first few books and this quote was uttered during one of those tenuous times when we were not really sure whether or not good would triumph. Of course, now we know that Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix succeeded to defeat the Deatheaters and dark forces in the end.

"Wow, we're identical"

This quote comes from the seventh book in the Harry Potter series, which also coincides with the seventh movie. It refers to a scene where several members of the Order of the Phoenix and Harry Potters friends take Polyjuice Potion. Their objective is to disguise themselves as Harry Potter and sneak the real Harry out of his home on Privet Drive. A hint- these two did not remain totally identical after encountering some Deatheaters on the way to The Burrow.

This heartfelt quote comes from a member of the Weasley family. The Weasleys are probably the closest thing that Harry Potter had to a real family and he loved Ron, Percy, Fred, George, Ginny and Mr. and Mrs. Weasley just as much as he would his biological relatives. Well, maybe not Percy so much! Needless to say, the Weasleys had both the benefits and the stresses that came along with being associated with the most famous wizard in the world.

Harry receives this prophecy during the third book, "Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban". "Accio" is one of the first spells that the young witches and wizards learn at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Saying it with the correct flick of the wand makes objects soar through the air towards the witch or wizard. Unfortunately, the person who uttered this particular quote was left with a lasting memory of their words in the form of deep welts from the summoned brain. The person who said, "Accio Brain" did so in the Ministry of Magic in the fifth book.

Question 19

"You will be learning about defensive spells in a secure, risk-free way."

This is uttered by one of the least liked teachers at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in book five of the Harry Potter series. Book five, "Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix", is the story of Harry and his friends coming head to head with both Voldemort and the staff of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The teacher, who temporarily took over the position of Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, did not allow the students to get real-world experience.

This rousing quote was said by one of the primary characters in the Harry Potter universe who is known for being clever, fearless and quick. It was said to Lily Potter, pictured here as a girl and reflects the love that the speaker has for her and will have for her- always. This character's affection and love for Lily Potter is not revealed until the end of the series in a heartwrenching twist that really makes us understand the genius of J.K. Rowling and the Harry Potter franchise.

"Dumbledore's Man through and through, that's right."

Albus Dumbledore is one of the most beloved characters in the entire series and there is no doubt that many students of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry look up to him and turn to him for guidance. There are few that are as loyal as this particular person though. He has a very special relationship with the Hogwarts headmaster and is not afraid to express his loyalty to Dumbledore whenever he gets the opportunity. Who said this particular quote?

"Neville will play Quidditch for England before Hagrid lets Dumbledore down."

This little dig at Neville was all in good fun. In the first few books of the Harry Potter book and movie series, Neville Longbottom was known as being awkward, clumsy and definitely not equipped to play Quidditch for England- let alone any other country! It was said during the early part of the series and the quote refers to Hagrid's inability to betray Dumbledore. Hagrid is known as the lovable groundskeeper who sometimes finds himself in strange or awkward situations.

This quote was said to Ron as a way to comfort him after he returned to join their group again.

This wise quote was said about Voldemort, who is referred to as "He Who Must Not Be Named" throughout much of the book and movie series. The person who said this quote refused to refer to Voldemort by his pseudonym, instead of calling him by his proper name. Over the course of the book and movie series, more and more people start calling Voldemort by his proper name- but this person started doing it back in their second year. So smart!

A big part of the Harry Potter storyline are big concepts like unreliable family and also how love conquers all. This quote refers to the reason why Voldemort was unable to do away with Harry Potter when he was a child. Harry Potter was protected by his mother's love and continued to be protected by his ability to love others. This powerful statement ties up so many loose ends in the story and sheds a lot of light on the final battle.

"One can never have enough socks. People will insist on giving me books."

The character who said this was referring to what he most wanted to see in the Mirror of Erised. The Mirror of Erised revealed the deepest desires of the people who gazed into it. Harry Potter saw his family, Ron Weasley saw himself getting accolades and praise for high achievements. This character claimed to see himself wearing some woolen socks. It was later revealed that this was a lie, but not until the seventh book of the Harry Potter series.

This was said to Rita Skeeter, pictured here, as a way to get the pesky and nosy reporter to go away. Rita Skeeter showed up in the fourth book of the Harry Potter series, "Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire". She spent much of her time prying into the lives of the champions and stirring up controversy for no reason. This quote comes at a satisfying part of the book where Rita Skeeter is revealed to be an unregistered Animagus.

This dark quote comes from the sixth book of the Harry Potter series, "Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince". It is spoken by one of the series' biggest villains. Although the accompanying picture is not from that book or movie, it should provide you a clue into who this character is because the first time Harry and his friends encountered him was in the Chamber of Secrets. He appears in only two books and is the younger version of this main character.
