Who Said It: Rory Or Lorelai?

Gilmore Girls is one of the most popular television series out there. It started years ago, telling the story of a mother and daughter. Over the years, fans got to know their family members, their significant others, their wacky habits and their loveable traits. And recently, the world rejoiced when a reboot came to Netflix, continuing the story of Lorelai and Rory Gilmore.

So, yes, both of these ladies have some strange behaviors (like talking a lot quickly, drinking coffee like there’s no tomorrow and eating junk food while rewatching the same silly movies over and over). But they also have some very positive similarities, too: They both adore their quaint town of Stars Hollow. They both love fiercely. They are both hard-working women who go after what they want.

And with all of those traits and facts, we want to know how well fans can tell the two apart - or if they can at all! Below, there are 35 quotes, and everyone here has to tell us: Did Rory say this line on the show? Or did Lorelai? For some of the questions, it will be easy to tell who said it (if it is about, say, Luke or Yale or something like that). For many, though, the thoughtfulness and zaniness in each quote will make it hard to decide, but we know the real fans have totally got this.

Question 1

Luke, will you marry me?

Okay, since this show focused on two young, successful and attractive females, there was a lot of focus on relationships. We saw breakups, makeups, engagements, weddings and beyond over the years, watching Lorelai and Rory fall in and out of love and be involved with several different men...But which of these two ladies proposed to Luke? We are starting off easy, folks, and we bet that everyone can get this first question right - at least, everyone better get it right!

Question 2

I just got hit by a deer!

Here is another fairly easy question, which super fans will have no trouble with. Someone got hit by a deer. Now, they did not hit a deer. No. This was different. While driving, they were hit by the deer! It was crazy. It was serious. And it was a big moment within the Gilmore Girls universe. We can just picture this character saying this exact line here, which was funny and sad all at the same time. But who was it?

Question 3

I'm ready to wallow now.

When speaking of all the relationships on this TV show, we mentioned that - just like in real life - not all the moments were super great; this mother and this daughter broke up with people and were dumped themselves. They had their hearts broken. Nearly all of their relationship ended (except for the good ones!). And at times, they needed to cry, to vent, to gorge ice cream and to wallow. So who said this exact line when upset - Lorelai or Rory?

Question 4

Hey, did anyone ever think Sylvia Plath wasn't crazy, maybe she was just cold?

It can be hard (if not impossible, even!) to keep up with all the references on Gilmore Girls. Songs, books, movies, pop culture, history, artists, different television shows...A little bit of everything was mentioned and turned into a joke by these witty women, including Sylvia Plath. But who said this line about being crazy and being cold: Did Lorelai make this author-based joke, or was it Rory who referenced this writer? Think hard, picture each character saying it, then answer!

Question 5

Because if you are going to throw your life away, he better have a motorcycle!

Here is another great relationship-based quote. Sometimes, Lorelai and Rory did not like the person their daughter/mother was dating, which was extremely hard, since these two are extremely close. That being said, at times, things were said - hurtful things that were trying to make a point but that ended up being sort of disastrous...like this line...spoken by which leading lady? Did Lorelai say this to Rory about one of her boyfriends? Or did Rory say it to Lorelai about one of her men?

Question 6

My books look sad. Can books look sad?

Out of all the references on this television series, most were probably from books, since Rory read all the time and since their home was filled with piles of novels, short stories and magazines. And at one point, one of these characters thought that their books looked sad. Can they look sad? We like to think so, but instead of debating on that, we just need to know one thing: Did Lorelai say this, or did Rory quote this line?

Question 7

Well, I'm attracted to pie. It doesn't mean I feel the need to date pie.

Another big topic on this show is food, because these women can eat! Whether they are pigging out on their couch, eating multi-course dinners at Richard’s and Emily’s or hitting up Luke’s diner, there is definitely food involved in their day-to-day activities. Therefore, this funny line about pie, which was making a point, fit perfectly into this show. But was it thrown in by Lorelai Gilmore, or was it added in by Rory Gilmore? Tell us by picking an answer below!

Question 8

I’m afraid once your heart’s involved, it all comes out in moron.

Ah, what wise and relatable words. Remember all those relationships we mentioned? And remember how Lorelai and Rory both saw some ups and downs when it came to love? Sometimes, that was because two people were not meant to be. Other times, though, things went wrong when Lorelai and/or Rory spoke in moran - something that can happen when falling in love! So think back to episodes, imagine one of them saying this, and tell us whose line this really is.

Question 9

I'm going to have to quit drinking coffee, and I love coffee.

Now, here is a tough one, because this quote could have been spoken by either Gilmore lady! Coffee was a necessity in this household, and both women could often be found with a giant cup or two. They were such go-getters, so they needed it in order to get up, to go and to function! All that being said, which one of these characters (Lorelai or her daughter Rory) was upset about the possibility of giving up caffeine - which they both love?

Question 10

It's Avril Lavigne's world. We're just living in it.

Ooo, here is another pop culture/music reference! For this question, we need everyone to not think about Avril Lavigne. Don’t try to decipher if it really is her world or not. Just focus on the quote. Picture the moment. Imagine both Lorelai and Rory saying this (because either one of them could have, really). Then, after studying their names down below, select one, and choose an answer that could be correct - that we all hope is really and truly correct!

Question 11

WWTBFCD...What would The Barefoot Contessa do?

Man, this quiz really could just be quotes pertaining to writers, shows, moments in history, movies and famous people, since many of the most memorable lines from Gilmore Girls referenced someone or something! And many of them were a bit kooky, since these zany ladies kept things interesting and, apparently, at times, made up their own acronyms for things and for life. WWTBFCD may not roll of the tongue, but one of them thought of it and said it...but which one?

Question 12

Who cares if I'm pretty if I fail my finals?

Lorelai and Rory Gilmore are constantly doted on for their insanely good looks; good genes run in this family, and they both have bright blue eyes, fair skin and dark brown hair. Neither of them were super into fashion or beauty, though. They liked to shop and took care of themselves, but they weren’t vain...for the most part. When it came to looking good or passing a test, the struggle was real. But for which leading lady was it real?

Question 13

I love you, you idiot.

Mmm, another classic line from this classic show. Love was in the air during most episodes, and those three little words (plus some fun colorful ones) were said more than once, to more than one many. In this moment, though, there were also feelings of anxiety, excitement, frustration and lust, as either Lorelai or Rory told someone special how they really felt! So tell us: Did Lorelai say this, or did Rory say it? Select an answer, then move along!

Question 14

You know what I just realized? Oy is the funniest word in the entire world.

Okay, let’s be real: Oy is a super strange word, and many of us may use “oy with the poodles” as a real line in our real lives. So let us thank the Gilmore Girls for this great quote, and let us think about which one of them actually uttered these words. Does it seem more like something a mother would say? Or is this something that came from a daughter? Tell us if this quote is from Lorelai Gilmore or if it’s from Rory Gilmore.

Question 15

Every relationship is just a big honking leap of faith.

This is quite true - in our lives and on the show - and, as mentioned, both Lorelai and Rory had lots of experience with relationships. And even for the good and easy relationships, there was still a leap of faith: Is this the right thing? Will we stay together? Do I belong with him? Am I saying the right things? Does he really love me? It can all be scary, but at least they both had good perspective in all of this!

Question 16

You have to sleep; it’s what keeps you pretty.

Ha, and here is another quote about looking pretty! Like we said, looks were not the most important thing to these characters, but they were naturally pretty, and they cared, in general, about presenting themselves in a sane, professional, nice way. Besides: This was mostly a humorous line about actually getting enough sleep and actually working with what they had. But which lady said it? Did Lorelai utter these words, or did Rory make this statement about sleep and about beauty?

Question 17

I live in two worlds: One is a world of books.

We can definitely picture this line being said, and we hope everyone else can, too! Think about who would have said this (Lorelai or Rory). Think about where it was said (at home, at school, at work or beyond). Think about why it was said (as a general statement, during something important or perhaps with a humorous line attached). Then tell us: On the TV show Gilmore Girls, did Lorelai or Rory say this line about books? Pick one down below!

Question 18

And if eating cake is wrong, I don’t want to be right.

We had to throw in at least one other dessert-related quote, and this one is about cake. Who mentioned cake? Who didn’t want to be right? Who said that maybe eating cake was wrong? And who were they talking to, where were they, and what was the context? So many questions, but only one matters - the one that brought us all here, today, together, for this quiz! Who said this on the series: Lorelai or Rory? Make a choice down below.

Question 19

The Long Island Ice Tea makes you do things you normally wouldn’t do.

Uh-oh...Those Long Island ice teas will get people every time! Thankfully, though, both Lorelai and Rory were very smart, and they both always know just what to say (for the best part). Therefore, they think critically, they offer up advice, and they try to stay ahead - all positive traits that are seen in this humorous little line here. But which one of them said it? Remember to imagine both of them saying it before making a final selection down below!

Question 20

Life's short. Talk fast.

If Gilmore Girls could be summed up with just one of these quotable lines, we may have to go with this one: Life is short, so we need to make the most of it - like Lorelai and Rory do! They have fun, they live big, and they love in a great way. And since life is short...Talk fast! Get in as much as possible, say all the words and share all the thoughts - just like these two feisty ladies do!

Question 21

It's a Friday night. We should be out, I don't know, partying with the homies.

As we said, Lorelai and Rory were both young and attractive, meaning they had hang-out spots, best friends and lots of fun activities to do - especially in a neat place like Stars Hollow. However, their favorite hang-out spot was their house, their real best friends were each other, and their favorite thing to do was be together. So sometimes, they thought about what they could possibly be missing out on, as displayed via this funny little quote right here about Fridays.

Question 22

Yeah, well I've always thought 'easy' is completely overrated.

We are close to the end, but there are a few more quotes to identify, read and answer down below! Is easy overrated? Is life hard? Are some things harder than others? Obviously, we are missing context here, and a conversation centered around this line could go on and on...But there is no time for that! Right now, we know the drill: We just picture this line in this show, and we select which Gilmore said this - Lorelai or Rory.

Question 23

Nothing excites me before 11:00 a.m.

All the coffee in the world could not help prepare Lorelai and Rory for an active early morning in one memorable episode. Both were hard workers, yes, so they were used to waking up early for work, school and other obligations...but that was different. On free mornings, they would have rather slept in until curling up on the couch in their pajamas with sugary breakfast foods. But things were different this day, when this quote was said...but by whom exactly?

Question 24

Reality has no place in our world!

This is yet another quote that we can imagine either Gilmore lady saying, since it sometimes seemed that they wanted to ignore reality; they liked to hide away in their adorable house, they liked to pretend like coffee + junk food was never going to catch up to them (and maybe it won’t!), and they liked to hide from problems, since being happy and positive is better than being stressed and upset. So think about this, and guess which Gilmore said it!

Question 25

Coffee, please, and a shot of cynicism.

Warning: This quiz will include at least one more line about coffee, because a. why not? and b. we need to trick everyone here; this quote could have escaped out of the mouth of Lorelia, or it could have been delivered by Rory. It seems like something either of them would have said, due to its reference to coffee and its hint of sarcasm. But which one of them actually said it and gets credit for this quote? Pick one here!

Question 26

The room - it smells like guilt and Chanel No. 5.

Okay, the mention of Chanel No. 5 is probably definitely about Mrs. Emily Gilmore...but did Lorelai make this joke, or did Rory make this observance? Picture old episodes. See the line coming out of both of their mouths. Imagine it all happening. Study their names down below. And know that this quiz is almost over, meaning we should all work really hard to end with a really good score here! So go on: Pick either Lorelai or Rory as an answer.

Question 27

I cannot do this alone. I need my mommy, and I don’t care who knows it.

Speaking of mothers...Either Lorelai or Rory broke down, admitted defeat and confessed to needing a mom around! Who knows why. Who knows when. (Well, big fans will remember, surely!). All that matters now - like with every other question listed here - is to correctly identify which Gilmore girl actually said this line here. Who needed their mother? Who could not go at something alone? Who was not ashamed in saying all of this? Tell us by picking a name from the two down below!

Question 28

Now, the Pope has previous plans, but he's trying to get out of them. However, Elvis and Jim Morrison are coming, and they're bringing chips.

Wow, this line is packed with all the references! We would love to have been invited to this party, if it was really going to be this big and crazy...crazy like this quote. But would we expect anything less from these quirky characters? Of course not! Their hilarious quotes and thoughtful talks helped make them the lovable and memorable gals they are! And which lovable and memorable gal, specifically, delivered this quote about chips? Pick one of them from the answer choices below.

Question 29

I would like a cheeseburger, with a side of cheeseburger, and see if they can make me a cheeseburger smoothie.

And, of course, we had to include at least one more line that was all about food. Pop-Tarts, Chinese takeout, waffles...These ladies knew how to eat, and they could often be found chowing down together. Happy? Eat! Sad? Eat! Celebrating? Eat! Stressed? Eat! And at one point in time, one or both of them found themselves to be so hungry that they wanted a cheeseburger - in three completely different forms. Who said it, though: Lorelai Gilmore or Rory Gilmore?

Question 30

God, you're like a pop-up book from hades!

We are nearing the end, so allow us to also throw in a few more quotes about books. This one was an exclamation and an insult of sorts. Someone kept popping up - out of nowhere, unannounced and in a frightening way - and this someone was annoying either Lorelai or Rory, causing one of them to say this quote in the first place! Do we remember who? Do we remember where? Do we know who they compared to a pop-up book?

Question 31

I don’t like Mondays but unfortunately, they always come around eventually.

Truer words were never spoken. No one is really in love with Mondays, and as we learned earlier, Lorelai and Rory were never really good at getting up and getting going and being excited about the morning. Therefore, in some conversation on the topic, one of them made this point: Mondays are not the best, but they always happen...so get ready, get going, get up. Make the best of them, and do what needs to be done...after coffee, of course.

Question 32

I can be flexible. As long as everything is exactly the way I want it, I’m totally flexible.

Hmm...This particular quote may be relatable to some. Being flexible is kind of needed in life, since things don’t always go as planned. However, many of us like things a certain way, and this mother-daughter duo sure does (with their own home, own styles, own tastes, own opinions and own caffeine addictions). That is why this line exists! But which one of them went into detail about how they could “totally” be “flexible”? Was it the mother or the daughter?

Question 33

Oh, no, wait. I thought of some. Jerk! … Arrogant, inconsiderate, mindless, frat-boy, low-life, butt-face, miscreant!

Yikes. When this was said, there was surely some anger. We feel sorry for whoever was on the receiving end! Both of these leading ladies were nice and kind, but when they got upset...Watch out. They know what they want. They are smart and strong. So when troubles arise, they sometimes can let loose - like one of them did whenever they said all of this! Select an answer from down below, as we all guess which Gilmore girl gave us this line.

Question 34

No. I just take a book with me everywhere. It’s just a habit.

Okay, everyone: There are only two more questions left in this quiz, meaning only two more lines need to be credited to either Lorelai or Rory. Here is the first one: It is about a habit. In particular, it is about a habit that involves taking a book everywhere. Can we more imagine Lorelai talking about this, or is this something Rory would say? Which one? Think hard, then take a pick, choosing between these two Gilmore girls down below!

Question 35

I need coffee in an IV.

And, everyone, here is the final question within this quiz that is all about deciding who said what: Lorelai or Rory. But this line specifically - about coffee in an IV (a brilliant idea)...Which Gilmore girl uttered this line? Which leading lady said this quote? And which television character, out of these two below, stated that they needed that much coffee?
