In the world of television, there are some amazing characters - ones that make us laugh, that make us cry, that inspire us and that attract us - and two of those characters are Chuck Bass from Gossip Girl and Jess Mariano from Gilmore Girls. Not only are these two TV guys from similar shows (based around girls, drama, relationships and life), but they are pretty similar themselves, too!
They have that bad boy thing down, yet they are total sweethearts. They act like they are too cool for school, but they have a soft spot for dogs, books and/or brunette women. They have a James Dean vibe, as well as smarts. And they deliver line after line of pure gold.
And today, we are putting all of that to the test: Which one actually talked about their father? Who reminded us all what their signature accessory was? Who talks of eating, skipping and reading? And which romantic line belongs to which romantic man? On some of these, it will be easy to decide who said which quote. But for others, we understand if everyone gets the sarcasm, the wit and the bad boy-ness mixed up!

For people who believe that everything happens for a reason and kismet and all of that, here is a great love-oriented quote. Both of these characters, as fans know, could be super romantic, and both of them struggled in their love lives at times. However, one of them knew that he would find his way back to his love...but which one was it?

“If a horse-drawn carriage shows up here, my throwing up will be eternal.” Even though both Jess and Chuck could be romantic, they liked to appear tough. They were tough! And they just needed people to know that, first and foremost, and realize that they were macho and strong and junk. Therefore, to one of them, the thought of a horse-drawn carriage was not cool. In fact, it was sickening. Who thought that? Who mentioned throwing up? And who actually said this?

It just came naturally to them, which could be kind of annoying (to those around them), as well as super funny (for us watching at home). “People like me don't write books, they're written about.” This one will be fun to decipher, since books were written in both Gilmore Girls and Gossip Girl! But which show was this even on exactly...Was Jess telling Rory that she should include him in her book? Was Chuck telling Dan that he actually did want to be in his novel? Think back to the context, and tell us who said this quote on their specific television series: Chuck or Jess.

“Most of all, I'm sorry I gave up on us when you never did.”Time to get serious again! Both Jess and Chuck had so many great lines in the love department...but it can be hard to tell them apart! We can see both of them giving up, and we can see both of them apologizing for that. Rory and Blair were both too perfect, so there were lots of moments with quotes like this one, as the couples tried to work through their problems. But who said this one?

“I plan on holding on to my youth for as long as possible.” Bad boy types like Jess and Chuck sort of talk the same, sort of act the same and sort of have the same outlook on life: They want to live fast and stay young, and they sometimes act recklessly, due to feeling indestructible. So think about which one in particular probably planned on holding onto youth for as long as possible. Was it Mr. Mariano or Mr. Bass?
We should have eaten before we came - Who said it?
“We should have eaten before we came.” Boys will be boys...and one of them (either Jess or maybe Chuck) could only think about food. Actually, their women seemed to drag them along to things, such as family gatherings and public events, that they may have not really cared about. And we can just imagine them only thinking about food during these moments! Which guy really said this, though, and which one regretted not eating before going to yet another activity?
Wow, aren't we hooked on Phonics - Who said it?
“Wow, aren't we hooked on Phonics!” This comment sounds like it could have been mean, and let’s face it: Jess and Chuck both had their scary moments. But, to elaborate, they both had to deal with some super hard things - and they were just teens during most of these troubling times, just high school students who wanted to be stress-free and happy! Still...none of that can be an excuse for this sarcastic and possibly rude comment...said by which one?
I want to be good. Life's just not letting me - Who said it?
“I want to be good. Life's just not letting me.” This is another quote that we can picture Jess saying...and that we can picture Chuck saying, because it seems to sum them both up pretty well! They wanted to be good; they could be good and were even more than that at times. But life wouldn’t let them; as mentioned, they had troubling times and stressful situations, which apparently forced them to actually be bad. So whose line is this?

“Don't worry. I'll protect you. I'd do anything for you.” See - They could be good! Fans watched both of these characters fall in love, and they fell hard. They had moments where they didn’t care about anyone or anything, but one girl - one smart, strong, beautiful brunette for each of them! - changed all of that. And for her, they would have done anything for her, and they would have done anything to keep her safe. But which man uttered these sweet words?
Better a broken nose than a broken heart - Who said it?
"Better a broken nose than a broken heart.” We saw both of these men get into scuffles, and we saw both of these men suffer broken hearts. Furthermore, we can imagine them both preferring a broken nose over a broken heart - and we don’t blame them! One heals faster. One is over faster. And one is way easier to deal with than the other. So think about who said this love-related quote, and then pick a guy from down below!

“I destroyed the only thing I ever loved.” Now, this is just sad. Remember all the troubling times we mentioned that have occurred in both Jess’ and Chuck’s life? Well, for one of them, it felt like everything was wrong and that nothing would work out. Why? One of these men believed he destroyed the only thing he ever loved - the only thing! Ever! Which man made this confession, broke our hearts and said this exact line written right here?

“The only thing that has ever been real is me and you.” On a happier note and a similar note, imagine this: Imagine Jess telling Rory that she is the only real and true thing out there! Now imagine Chuck telling Blair that she is the only real and true thing out there! Both scenarios sound plausible, and both of these characters could have said this, but there is only one correct answer...which one is it out of the two?

“Think of how dull your life would be without me.” We will say one thing: These bad boys knew how to have fun. They both could get a little wild and crazy, and even though their friends also had great lives, they added some zest. They spiced things up. They kept things interesting. They added in drama. And that means that either of them could have easily said that life would be dull any other way. Who said this quote here?

But only one of them, on one specific episode of either Gilmore Girls or of Gossip Girl, said these exact words to the love of their life. Who said this?

“Great, then we can hold hands and skip afterwards.” Even though Jess and Chuck both provided fun (in their wild, bad boy ways), it is hard to imagine them having fun in a more traditional way - like riding bikes, putting together puzzles or skipping! Therefore, sarcasm was used again, as one of these dudes made a crack about hanging out and having fun. The question is, though, which one of them actually said it...Was it really Jess or Chuck?

“There's a difference between a great love and the right love.” Wow, here is a deep line, which could have escaped from either deep mouth. Since Jess was a visitor, fans didn’t really see him in other relationships, but he had it all going for himself and moved away, so he probably knew of other great loves. And Chuck was seen in love more than once...but all along, they both knew the right love. So who said this romantic line?
I don't need a daddy - Who said it?
“I don't need a daddy.” In an earlier question, we touched upon the fact that Jess was not always close with his father, and Chuck and Bart Bass definitely had their negative moments. So this line could have been spoken to their fathers that they did not want around or to someone else who stepped in, due to their dads not really being around.
