Who Can Name All These Dark Type Pokemon?

Those of us who consider ourselves Pokemon Masters have a lot to live up to. Aside from being acutely familiar with each specific region, a Pokemon Master must be impossibly skilled in the art of battling. Furthermore, they must know every 'mon in the National Pokedex inside and out, and that knowledge must cover Pokemon of all types.

Today, our focus will be on Dark types - the coolest of all 'mons. They're sleek, secretive and, as far as battling goes, they offer plenty of advantages. Though be warned - the typical Dark type Pokemon is a prankster and a mischief maker. Despite that, don't make the mistake of thinking that makes them evil. Who knows - one day, we all might be in a worldly pickle, and one of these Dark type 'mons might be the hero who swoops in to rescue us. Though, given the nature of Dark type Pokemon, they're more likely to troll us in such a scenario. Hopefully not.

Either way, let's see if there's a master trainer out there who can name all these Pokemon. Those who aren't able to do so needn't be so hard on themselves - it only means that a refresher course with Professor Oak might be in order.

Question 1

Who's that Pokemon?

Luckily for amateur trainers taking this quiz, we'll start it off with one of the most recognizable Dark types in the entire Pokedex. Be warned, though - this is a dark quiz, with truly daunting challenges awaiting down below. We'll need a full Pokedex in order to ensure victory, but too bad that's not allowed here. Using Pokewit and Pokewit alone, let's see if we can start this quiz off on the right foot. Who's this first Dark type 'mon?

Question 2

Who's that Pokemon?

Now the hard part begins, with this next Dark type Pokemon from the second generation of the games. Trainers might remember running into its pre evolved form at the early stages of their Johto adventure, and perhaps a few have caught it and trained it so it can evolve into this veritable beast right here. With a great ability in Moxie, this beast is not to be underestimated, as it can sweep an opposing team very quickly if the trainer is unprepared.

Question 3

Who's that Pokemon?

There's some overwhelming power emanating from this next entry, and it's probably because this Dark type Pokemon's Attack stat is sky high. With a Choice Banded Knock Off, it'll take a real Defensive tank resistant to the move to remain standing, and even at that, they'll lose a good chunk of HP. Still, trainers using this Pokemon should keep in mind its frail defenses, and use it accordingly. Let's see if any trainers out there can't get this guy's name right.

Question 4

Who's that Pokemon?

The darkness here is copious and impenetrable, and this 'mon is a serious threat in battle. It's such a powerhouse that it was quickly banned to the Ubers tier soon after its release, and for very good reason. With one Nasty Plot, this guy can destroy opposing teams, especially since it can handily put its counters right to sleep. No one should underestimate this 'mon, even if they have an Ubers team of their own. What's this guy's name, again?

Question 5

Who's that Pokemon?

There's a fast, powerful Dark type Pokemon on the prowl, and we have a feeling that it's looking out for any would be trainer who can't even pay it the respect of knowing its name. Just as cats are very distinguished species in the real world, Pokemon based on cats pay just as much attention to respect - refrain from showing it a base level of recognition, and it might just unleash a Dark Pulse attack. Let's try avoiding that.

Question 6

Who's that Pokemon?

This is without a doubt the trickiest Dark type in this quiz, and perhaps the trickiest Pokemon in the entire Pokedex. Of course, this is due to its ability, which allows it to disguise itself as another Pokemon of the trainer's party upon entry, and the subterfuge lasts until it's hit with a move. One can imagine the strategic advantages this offers, and one wouldn't be far from the truth. Let's see if one can find some truth in guessing this guy's name.

Question 7

Who's that Pokemon?

A classic Dark type Pokemon, this one is descending from the oppressive skies, looking for a worthy trainer to test its new Brave Bird attack on. This bird isn't quite as powerful as the formidable beast it will eventually evolve into, but when equipped with a Flyinium Z, it has access to Z Mirror Move, which sharply boosts its attack while allowing it to use the Z move version of the last attack used in battle. That results in a devastating turn.

Question 8

Who's that Pokemon?

Question 9

Who's that Pokemon?

Now we're talking - here's a Dark and Fire type Pokemon with a serious flare to its bite. If it Nasty Plots up, the opposing trainer should get ready to sacrifice one of their party members soon, otherwise this thing will sweep right through their team. For that unfortunate trainer's sake, we hope this guy isn't equipped with a Focus Sash, since that would mean it would require at least two moves to take him out of the epic battle.

Question 10

Who's that Pokemon?

With its Prankster ability, this Dark and Ghost type Pokemon is capable of using a large variety of moves with high priority in battle, so long as they're not moves meant to attack with. Furthermore, it only has one weakness. What a classic Dark type this guy is.

Question 11

Who's that Pokemon?

We saw this raging bird's pre-evolved form in a prior entry, and now we see the lineage in its full potential. Question 14

Who's that Pokemon?

Who knew that this Steel and Dark type Pokemon can fly? Really, we're not so surprised, since this Pokemon has greatly impacted the metagame ever since it was released. What's its name?

Question 17

Who's that Pokemon?

There's pretty much only one reason why this Pokemon is so feared in battle, but that aspect alone is enough to validate its inclusion in a party. Of course, we're referring to the dreaded Contrary ability - with Contrary, any changes to a Pokemon's stats in battle are reversed. When using Superpower, you can imagine just how scary this monster becomes - instead of lowering its Attack and Defense stat with each use, it raises them. What a powerhouse this Dark and Psychic type is.

Question 18

Who's that Pokemon?

Venturing back into the Ubers tier, we're faced with one of the most devastating Pokemon in the entire Pokedex. Who's that Pokemon?

This next Pokemon was also introduced as one of the first Pokemon discovered in the original Red and Blue games. In any case, it's much better to be the one using this monster in battle than the one facing it.

Question 22

Who's that Pokemon?

In a similar fashion, trainers definitely tend to prefer using this monster rather than having to take it down in battle. Aside from its sky high Attack stat and access to a huge variety of moves, this Pokemon's bulk allows it to absorb a variety of powerful attacks before it goes down. Furthermore, with access to the Sand Stream ability, it summons a sandstorm whenever it enters the battle, boosting its Special Defense stat even higher. Just who is this Pokemon?

It can function as both sweeper and defensive tank, so no one ever knows what to expect when they run into one.

Question 29

Who's that Pokemon?

Battling aside for now, let's see who can name this scary little monster.

For the love of Arceus, who's this Pokemon?

Question 34

Who's that Pokemon?

With its sky high Special Attack at and almost equally sky high Attack, this Pokemon is a force to be reckoned with, to say the absolute least. In all cases, it's much better to catch and train one for use in competitive battles than it is to actually have to face against it.
