The Super Bowl is quite possibly the biggest sporting event in the world. It’s certainly the biggest event in football, as two teams go head to head to determine that year’s champions. The stakes are high and the hype is crazy. Advertisers fight for the top spots in the Super Bowl ad lineup, paying ridiculous amounts just to have their product seen. The biggest and best musical acts like Beyoncé turn out blow up the field with their lavish halftime shows, and if President Donald Trump is to be believed and ratings really are everything, the Super Bowl puts every other broadcast on the air to shame with tens of millions of viewers tuning in to watch the game every year with numbers to rival ratings giants like Seinfeld and M*A*S*H.
The Super Bowl is an American cultural phenomenon that’s been going on for over half a century now and it’s showing no signs of ever slowing down. The showmanship and the theatrics and the blockbuster-ness are all great to hype up the game and get the fans psyched, but it’s all really about the football.
