Which Supernatural Hunter Are You?

Through five showrunners, company mergers, and a constantly rotating supporting cast, Supernatural has managed to last for 13 seasons and counting. Sam and Dean Winchester over the age of 25 and are theoretically old for the CW audience, but show still brings in numbers! The show's survival is likely guaranteed at this point, even if its cast of characters isn't. Over the years, Sam and Dean have been joined by many hunters to help out (and sometimes attempt to kill them as well) in the fight against (wait for it) supernatural creatures. From urban legends to God's sister, to a really messed up yet incompetent version of the Kingsmen, Bobbt and John Winchester's boys have seen it all.

With this quiz, however, we're going to find out which hunter you would be. By testing your personality, preferences and understanding of the lore, you'll find out which Winchester (or aligned friend) you would be most likely to be hunting as. Of course, maybe you aren't a hunter at all. Maybe it's the paranoia, but a few of you don't seem like hunters. Maybe you work for Crowley instead. Anyway, let's find out. Grab a whiskey and a slice of pie, and let's get started!

Question 1

Are you a heavy drinker?

Nic Cage Drunk

Hunters don’t lead particularly easy lives. Over the course of 13 seasons we’ve seen that many, many hunters enjoy a substance or six just to get through the day. Of course, there are others that are teetotalers, always wanting their senses clear in case they get attacked. What a fun life.

Question 2

What’s your mode of transportation?

'67 Chevy Impala Supernatural

It’s rare for a hunter to have much in the way of wealth. That’s why they do credit card scams, gambling and grifting. However, there are some that have a real sense of legacy. The Winchesters do love their classic cars, especially their father’s—who Dean has named Baby. Hell, and the Men of Letters are loaded, so maybe you can drive a Maserati.

Question 3

Is family important to you?

Hunters have a short shelf-life. Often, if they’re too good at their jobs, creatures might go and track down their family as revenge. Most don’t have families in the traditional sense—usually they’ll have friendships with other hunters, but even then, most keep their distance from the other. It’s more professional courtesy than anything else.

Question 4

How would you get rid of a ghost?

Ghosts are pretty common in the series—especially hauntings. Apparently, everything is either built on an ancient Indian burial ground or everyone dies with wretched anger and get stuck as spirits who decay mentally until they become malevolent entities. You can’t even win in death. Guess that would make anyone angry enough to haunt others.

Question 5

Was Dean right to save Amy?

Dean in Purgatory Supernatural

In “The Girl Next Door,” young Sam saved a girl named Amy, a Kitsune who needs to eat brains to live. She promises to “go straight.” In the present, as adults, they meet again. She was killing criminals to feed their brains to her ailing son. Sam let her go again, but Dean returned in secret and killed her, believing she would kill again. He let the boy live as a warning.

Question 6

Are you paranoid?

Hunters have to be a little paranoid, a little crazy and a little skeptical all at once. This stress explains the drinking pretty well, doesn’t it? Bobby, Rufus and John Winchester were all quite paranoid, which was why they all lived past the age of thirty. Admittedly, they’re all dead now—but hey, we all have to go eventually.

Question 7

What’s your education level?

Hunters tend to start young, so school isn’t a priority. They also deal with a great deal of personal tragedy and lead nomadic lives, so, again, this isn’t exactly conducive to a regimented school routine. Sam Winchester went to college, however, and would’ve graduated too had it not been for Yellow Eyes. Kevin Tran was an incredible student had he not, you know, died.

Question 8

Are you organized?

There’s a chaotic order to the life of a hunter. You have to know the creatures that are out there, the clues that will lead you to a supernatural event, and how to get away with the bad guy in the ground and you preferably not bleeding. Then again, if worse comes to worse, you can always call Bobby. He always cleans up everybody’s messes. Oh, wait—he’s dead? Never mind. You’re on your own.

Question 9

Weapon of choice?

Supernatural has to be the favorite show of doomsday preppers. Hunters are masters of getting by with less and are armed to the teeth. Everything you’d expect—knives and guns—and that’s not even counting the homemade stuff or the mystical weapons like the Colt or the First Blade. Also, hunters wear muted earth-tones, which preppers seem to wear as well. Odd.

Question 10

How would you kill a vampire?

Vampires in Supernatural are a bit different. They definitely don’t sparkle and they’re hardly romanticized. They’re even a bit uglier than their Buffy the Vampire Slayer equivalents. Vamps are sometimes more feral and detached from everyday people, and can’t be killed by a stake in the heart. Also, keep your garlic on pizza where it belongs—that won’t work in them either.

Question 11

Do you like working with other hunters?

Teams can be tough. On one hand, you have backup. On the other, you have a greater chance of accidents. Also, some demons will use your grouping as a way to cull the herd. There’s only a small hunter population. Having too many in one place is dangerous. But, then again, how many times could a hunter’s life had been saved if there was another person with him?

Question 12

Do you do a lot of research before a hunt?

Knowledge is power. But then again, a shotgun’s pretty powerful too. As far as research is concerned, given the number of creatures out there and the variety of horrible abilities they can have, you might get lost in the minutiae while people die. John Winchester and Bobby Singer were good at splitting between kicking doors down and reading the lore, but not everyone is built for balance.

Question 13

How do you feel about Castiel?

Oh, Cas. Outside of the Winchesters, is there any character who has died as often as him? Regardless of his naiveté and inability to iron his clothes, Castiel is an invaluable ally thanks to his angel powers and (sometime) access to Heaven. However, the power combined with that naiveté is a dangerous combination and has created a number of problems over the years.

Question 14

Should all supernatural creatures be hunted to extinction?

The British Men of Letters were suave, resourceful and very, very ruthless. Their plan was to wipe out every supernatural entity on the planet. God knows Dean Winchester has had some cold-blooded moments too. The problem was that there are some entities that either aren’t a threat or simply don’t follow in their brethren’s bloody footprints. Morality is a real pain.

Question 15

Pick a song

Classic rock plays a huge role in Supernatural, and has since the start. Creator Eric Kripke often used them in the episodes to draw a thematic point, and if he couldn’t afford the license to others (Led Zeppelin), he would make them episode titles. Dean Winchester himself seems to be the embodiment of classic rock, having inherited his father’s music collection along with the car.

Question 16

Which character would you have back from the dead?

Supernatural is cutthroat. You would think a show with mystical elements would have a revolving door of character dying just to come back. It’s to their credit that this simply doesn’t happen. Sure, you might show up in a flashback episode or as a ghost or something for a one-off appearance, but once you’re gone, you’re gone. This has been difficult for some fan-favorites, so if you could get a one-time pass, who comes back?

Question 17

How would you kill a wendigo?

“Supernatural cannibals.” That’s never a good sign, is it? On one of their first adventures together, the boys had to deal with a Wendigo on an airplane. Damn thing was fifteen feet tall and stuck in coach. That should’ve been punishment enough, but the boys killed him anyway. Admittedly, the creature was responsible for many, many deaths over several hundred years.

Question 18

Pick your favorite season

As of this writing, Supernatural’s 13th season is currently airing. This is insane. It’s also a testament to the power of fandom. For this question, we’re only going to take a look at what the most popular seasons are to fans, so this is as simple but difficult as possible. Sure, you can hate us now, but you’ll love us later. Okay, you probably won’t, but we can live with that.

Question 19

Describe your romantic relationships

Sure, this is a personal question, but Supernatural has done some of its best work when dealing with the personal lives of its characters. Besides, this is anonymous—we won’t actually know who you are or why your life is such a mess. If it’s any consolation, your personal life can’t be as screwed up as Sam or Dean’s, right?

Question 20

Jody Mills or Donna Hanscum

Do you take your badasses moody or upbeat? Either way, these ladies will pistol whip or burn you to death, so in that way, their bedside manner probably doesn’t matter much. They’re probably the only two women in the show to have survived long enough to become beloved, and will be the stars of the upcoming spinoff series called Wayward Sisters.

Question 21

Which monster scares you most?

TV Monster Quiz - Supernatural

Supernatural is full of all kinds of digusting or scary creatures. They’re like The X-Files in that way (but at least Supernatural never had Kathy Griffin on…and playing two roles). We can’t list all of the many, many monsters that have gone bump in the night, so choose between these creeps for now.

Question 22

Sam or Dean?

Yeah, this one’s just mean. For some fans, they’d rather choose between their relatives than choose between the boys. It’s pretty lousy of us for asking you this question, but it sure makes things more interesting. God, wouldn’t it be funny if you ended up with the brother you didn’t pick in this question? That would be awkward.

Question 23

Pick a food

No, characters on Supernatural tend not to eat at Dorsia—but then no one goes there anymore anyway. We hope you got that reference. Anyway, life on the road doesn’t give you many opportunities for good eating, so let’s just stick to the simple stuff. Sorry to any of you Men of Letters enthusiasts.

Question 24

Do you die or retire?

Dean dead Supernatural

There aren’t many hunters that live long enough to retire. Sometimes even the ones that do end up getting killed in revenge by some vampire’s cousin or something. Others, well, they get lucky enough to met Death on Death’s terms. And have you seen Death in recent seasons? She’s pretty hot.

Question 25

How would you relax?

After a long day of driving, fighting, arguing with and lying to everyone around you, you’re going to need to blow off some steam and probably sew some wounds shut. Hunters have all sorts of ways of relaxing, and to be honest, most of them seem worse than going back out finding something else to kill. It’s really a depressing life these guys have.
