Star Wars lightsaber colors have unique meanings and are not purely decorative. In the Star Wars universe, lightsabers are used for a variety of reasons. Jedi and Sith will use these weapons, capable of great destruction, with different motives.
Sith lightsabers differ from Jedi lightsabers. The crystals that Sith use are synthetic and usually come in the color red. Because Kylo Ren uses a flawed kyber crystal, it causes energy to spew out the sides of his hilt forming a cross. The Sith use their lightsabers to bring misfortune on to others.
The Jedi are a group of Force-sensitive individuals who have been trained in the light side of the Force. Their benevolence can be strength and a weakness. They set out to serve and protect the galaxy, but are required to make great sacrifices. The Jedi have existed in the Star Wars galaxy for over one thousand generations. Jedi use natural crystals which can come in many different colors.
