Which Simpson Are You?

For over 30 years now, The Simpsons have been the most visible cartoon family on television. In fact, at this point, they’re a whole lot more than that—the Simpson family is an iconic comedy institution that will forever go down in history as some of the most important characters ever written. Granted, the Simpsons and their life in Springfield are a whole lot different than the average American family and town.

On the other hand, almost everyone can relate in one way or another to the crazy antics Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, Maggie, Abe and their friends get up to on a weekly basis. Quite frankly, the more a person thinks about it, the less they would actually want to be a member of the Simpson family. Hilarious as they are, Homer’s job at the Nuclear Power Plant only barely provides for their modest life, and living with Bart could be the sort of life threatening affair most of us wish to avoid.

Unless, of course, you’d be the Bart of the family, in which case a world without repercussion sounds pretty great. Homers and Maggies probably wouldn’t mind that, either, while Marges and Lisas realize this sort of chaos is exactly why their presence is so direly needed. Then there are Grandpas, who never even watched the show and have no idea what we’re talking about. Find out which Simpson family member you are by taking this quiz.

Question 1

Do you get along with the rest of your family?

Since the day Homer Simpson terrified the hell out of all his kids while tucking them in at night, his family has been putting the “fun” in dysfunctional. Homer and Bart in particular are literally at one another’s throats half the time, and even Marge and Lisa have shown a propensity for this same type of behavior. Despite this, the Simpsons genuinely do seem to love one another deep down inside, which is a big part of why they’ve become so popular with millions of fans. Do you have the same sort of relationship with your family?

Question 2

Have you ever done drugs?

For whatever reason, there’s a perception in society that all or at least most adult cartoon fans must enjoy some sort of chemical stimulus to watch their favorite shows. Obviously, this isn’t the case, yet to a certain type of person, select drugs might indeed make The Simpsons funnier. Granted, they would make anything funnier, and that’s kinda the point. Not all of the Simpsons would necessarily approve, but we also believe a few of them wouldn’t mind partaking in an illicit substance or two under the right circumstances. Would you join them?

Question 3

Are you a creative type?

Having produced over 600 episodes worth of content, The Simpsons writers are amongst the most creative minds ever to work in the television industry. Less than halfway into the show’s run, they proudly boasted fans should have no fears, as they’ll have stories for years, a prediction that has more than proven true. Sure, some of the later episodes don’t match up to the series peak, but merely creating this much entertainment is a feat in and of itself. You probably can’t match this incredible level of output, but are you a creative person yourself?

Question 4

What’s the most important meal of the day?

When asked how he clinched his high school reunion’s “greatest weight gain” award, Homer Simpson gleefully declared he discovered a new meal between breakfast and brunch. Even before this life changing revelation, Homer was clearly a man who loved and adored his food, one trait he, his family, and indeed all of Springfield have in common. A town doesn’t earn recognition as the fattest on record without a hefty appetite, making it obvious the Simpsons and all their friends love to eat. Which meal would you join them for?

Question 5

Do you have any pets?

In their historic first half hour on television, Bart and Homer Simpson bet the family’s Christmas money on a losing ticket down at the dog track. Surprisingly, the story found a happy ending when the same loser Homer put all his money on followed them home, soon become the Simpson’s beloved pet. Santa’s Little Helper wasn’t alone, as the family already had Snowball II, obviously a replacement for Snowball I. They also meet a nice fish named Blinky and Homer specifically finds friendship with a big possum named Bitey and a lobster named Pinchy. Do you share the family affection towards animals?

Question 6

What were you like as a child?

Half of the Simpsons family still being children, fans of the show are given much more than a glimpse of what they’re like as kids. Even Homer, Marge, and their friends all show hints of how they acted and behaved while growing up, and these insights usually speak volumes about how they turned out as adults. Homer’s childhood relationship with his father and absence of his mother made his later failure almost inevitable, and Marge’s terrorizing sisters made even a goofball like Homer look like a great alternative. Does your own youth say anything about you?

Question 7

Would you ever serve your country in war?

This question might seem a little bit unusual, unless of course you’re familiar with the fact almost everyone in the Simpson family actually served in the army, navy, or in Homer’s case, both. Ultimately, Grandpa was the only true military hero, having valiantly served with his Frying Hellfish during World War II. However, Homer too enlisted multiple times, only to get kicked out or dishonorably dismissed for one reason or another. Even little Bart and Lisa spent some time in military school, performing admirably for their ages. Could you fit in with such a militaristic bunch?

Question 8

Could you live with Homer Simpson?

Just about every fan of the Simpsons loves watching Homer get up to his ridiculous antics, but it would be an entirely different story actually having to live with the guy. Oafish to the degree Bart created a word for it in “kwigybo,” it would be a huge challenge to put up with the sights and smells one could run into under the same roof as Homer, and one not all people are willing to put up with. Even his own daughter has trouble coping sometimes, but somehow she manages. Would you?

Question 9

Do you consider yourself smart?

What exactly constitutes intelligence can at times be relevant, and in Springfield, simply being able to read can put a person above about half of the populace in this regard. Then again, the other half of Springfield seem to be pretty darn smart, with scientists like Frink and book worms like Lisa forming their own suburban chapter of Mensa. Springfield is so filled with brilliant minds that internationally respected geniuses like Stephen Jay Gould and Stephen Hawking stopping by to conduct some of their research. Which half of the town would you fit in with?

Question 10

Are you neat and tidy?

Less adventurous than the rest of her family, Marge Simpson spends most of her time at home cooking, cleaning, and making things more presentable for her family. Naturally, Homer and Bart repay her by destroying the house again and again, keeping Marge forever busy trying to clean up after them. Hopefully, your situation isn’t so messy, unless of course you choose for it to be so. Some people don’t have time to constantly dust their belongings, let alone mop the floors once in a while. Does this describe you, or are you more like Marge?

Question 11

What's your favorite alcoholic beverage?

In the legendary words of Homer Simpson, alcohol is both the cause of and solution to all of life’s problems, at least when life is lived the way Homer and the rest of Springfield choose to live it. Not every single person in town likes getting bombed every night, as there are plenty of children who are thus far free from the allure of giggle juice, yet chances are based on the number of alcoholic adults in their lives, it won’t be long before they give it a go. Could you resist the peer pressure, or would you fit right in at Moe’s?

Question 12

Are you a violent person?

Getting back to that point about how the Simpsons are constantly at one another’s throats, when strangulation is a family activity, it should go without saying said clan are a bit on the violent side. If not that, the Simpson family mostly share an angry temperament, with everyone except Marge easily capable of getting into a fist fight at the drop of a hat. As is often the cast, the rest of Springfield are more than happy to provoke the Simpsons and bring out that anger. Would you be the same, or do you pass on the fists?

Question 13

What is your favorite type of music?

More than just a TV show, The Simpsons has become an absolute entertainment empire. In addition to producing 600+ episodes of the show itself, The Simpsons franchise has also released a half dozen soundtrack albums of original material ranging just about every genre there is. There was Homer’s barbershop quartet, Lisa’s duet with Bleeding Gums Murphy, and countless show stopping Broadway numbers performed by the whole cast, and those are just some of the more memorable examples.

Question 14

Where did you meet your best friends?

With a family like the Simpsons, it’s pretty much a given that Homer, Bart, and Lisa want to get the heck away sometimes, running to the comfort of close friends they’ve chosen rather than family they were forced to live with. Maggie will probably be doing the same as soon as she can, and even Marge would, too, if she had any friends to go to. Were you in the same situation, you’d probably need a breather from the family now and again as well. Where would you go to find new friends and experiences?

Question 15

Have you ever broken the law?

Despite the fact the Simpsons go to church on a weekly basis, always wearing their Sunday best while doing so to prove how serious they are, the family aren’t exactly the most moral bunch out there. In addition to Bart’s penchant for causing chaos, Homer has also been easily tempted to break the law on many occasions, and Marge once went to jail for stealing when the stresses of her life caused her to make a horrible mistake. That’s not even mentioning the fact baby Maggie has shot people. Are you a scofflaw, as well?

Question 16

Do you believe in true love?

For all their faults as a family, one thing the Simpsons have going for them is the love shared between Homer and Marge. Meeting one another in high school, Marge was at first resistant to Homer’s advances, until a third party named Artie Ziff made her realize he wasn’t so bad all along. Homer and Marge have had their ups and downs since then, yet they always wind up back together in one another’s arms, with each admitting a complete and utter dependence on the other to remain happy.

Question 17

Do you like reading?

With the residents of Springfield generally not on the smarter side, it probably goes without saying that few residents appreciate the joy of reading. However, the smart ones recognize a book could be the perfect way to escape from the drudgery and insanity of every day life. Homer might make fun of Lisa for spending so much time down at the “libarry,” except for that one day he became just as smart as her and decided it was the place for him, too. What about you—ever gotten lost in a good book?

Question 18

Do you hate anyone in Springfield?

Let’s face it—with as many residents as Springfield has, there’s bound to be a few losers amongst the bunch. We’re not just talking about poor old Gil Gunderson, who can’t seem to catch a break. There are also a large number of jerks, miscreants, and outright criminals, all evoking stronger feelings of enmity than any sort of affection. Each member of the Simpson family has their own rival, and in fact, Homer and Bart have several. Even Maggie has Gerald, the baby with one eyebrow, so what about you: do you hate anyone in Springfield?

Question 19

Which of Homer’s jobs do you think your most suited for?

When a show lasts over 600 episodes, the writers have to come up with new and exciting ways to switch things up. For The Simpsons, it seems like nine times out of ten this goal is accomplished by Homer finding a wacky new job that causes his family to entirely change their lives. Homer has held so many jobs over the years we have nowhere near enough time to name them all, but if you had to choose from the most memorable career paths Homer has ventured down, which would be your favorite?

Question 20

Are you good at sports?

Notwithstanding the amount of food they shove down their gullets, the people of Springfield also put a whole lot of their time and effort into athletics. The Simpson family in particular have been involved in sports more than once as well, with both Bart and Lisa becoming local hockey stars. Of course, Homer would have preferred Bart play football, and Marge didn’t really want her kids on the field at all. Would you be passing the puck with Bart and Lisa, or murmuring with their mom over on the sidelines?

Question 21

Do you have any enemies?

They say there’s a thin line between love and hate, yet the distinction between mere dislike and actually considering someone an enemy is actually pretty significant. There are plenty of people in Springfield who get annoyed by Homer, Bart, and even Marge or Lisa, but only the ones who hate them most would go so far as to declare war on them, metaphorically speaking. In that same vein, the Simpson family all have people who rub them the wrong way, as this quiz already mentioned, but true enemies are a different story. Do you have any?

Question 22

Are you a risk taker?

The phrase “go big or go home” feels especially apt in Springfield, where residents have gone all in on wild ideas like an escalator to nowhere and a giant monument to popsicle sticks without once stopping to consider the consequences. That’s also true of the Simpson family, a unit that contains not one but two members who momentarily believed they could jump across Springfield Gorge on a skateboard. Despite the fact that didn’t pan out for Homer, and repeatedly at that, both he, Bart, and the rest of the family continued throwing caution to the wind throughout the series. Are you the same way?

Question 23

What’s your favorite type of TV show or movie?

At this point, the most iconic piece of entertainment The Simpsons have referenced is their own series, through various meta-jokes that have been causing controversy amongst long term fans. Regardless of how one feels about this, it’s no surprise The Simpsons writers have fun poking at their own place in pop culture, as the series has been making nods to other TV shows, movies, and forms of entertainment from their earliest days on the air. The Simpsons has referenced just about everything, from art films down to monster truck rallies, truly making the humor it creates universal in scope.

Question 24

Who or what makes you happiest in life?

Everyone is different in their own way, yet one thing most humans share is that we strive to get something out of life that actually takes effort to attain: happiness. To some people, this emotion comes easily, and is found everywhere they look at home and at work. Others are less lucky and need to look inwardly to fulfill themselves, finding joy in creativity or invention when the rest of the world doesn’t do. Each member of the Simpson family is unique in how they find personal nirvana, and chances are you’re the same way, but hopefully one of our options will come close.

Question 25

What’s your favorite place in Springfield?

Springfield, Springfield, it’s a hell of a town. In addition to the iconic residence that is 742 Evergreen Terrace, which the Simpson family calls home, there’s also a bustling downtown economy putting real world equivalents like Los Angeles and New York City to shame. Look hard enough and you can find just about anything on earth somewhere in Springfield, from bars, music stores, comic book shops, brothels, giant shopping malls, arcades, bowling alleys, Sprawl-Marts, and let’s not forget Mr. Burns’ nuclear plant, powering it all. With all these options, where in Springfield would you spend most of your time?
