The Simpsons is simply an out and out institution to many people. Since the series began life back in late 1989, it has gone on to become one of the most successful and beloved shows to ever grace the small screen.
Of course, at the centre of the series is the show's titular family - Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie - but that's not to say that the animated caper is always tied to these five characters. One of the most enjoyable aspects of The Simpsons for many fans is its vast array of recurring supporting characters.
