Grey's Anatomy is a medical drama which is set in a hospital in rainy Seattle. This series is full of love, laughter, suspense, and even drama! The love triangles can even be somewhat confusing, but oh so entertaining! We find ourselves really getting in to the story, and feeling like you are a part of the patient's and doctor's lives. So it isn't surprising if you find yourself getting a little teary eyed in most episodes. That's OK, we're only human after all.
Trying to keep up with the love triangles is almost as difficult as trying to keep track of who is dead and who is still alive. Shonda Rhimes has a bad habit of killing off all our favorite characters too. It really does suck when your favorite people are killed off, die in plane crashes or get hit by a bus...
So after almost 14 seasons of Grey's Anatomy, can you remember which of our favorite doctor's and patient's are still alive or if they have passed on to a better place? Alex Karev: Dead or Alive?
Alex actually used to be a wrestler while still in school. He was a bad-ass young man with a distinct arrogance about himself. Alex comes from a broken home, which is part of why he has an anger problem and doesn't tolerate women or child abuse. Alex married cancer girl who later disappears. He later falls in love with Jo Wilson. Jo is an intern who is on the run from her husband so she refuses to marry Alex Karev.
Do you know if Ellis Grey is still alive?
The legendary Dr Ellis Grey was born on 6 August 1953, in Seattle. She was also known as Little Lady and Sugar. Ellis is Meredith’s mother and she was a doctor who pioneered many medical techniques and won the Harper Avery Award twice. Later, she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and she was placed in a nursing home for her own safety. This is why Meredith moved in to her mum’s big house. Do you know if Ellis is still alive?
Owen Hunt: Dead or Alive?
Owen Hunt was actually a Major in the US Army. He also went to Harvard before he signed up for the army. He had a very messy handwriting, probably because he was left handed. He falls in love with Cristina while trying to deal with his PTSD. At one point, he even strangles her in his sleep. Owen also has a sister who makes an appearance in the latest season. Part of the building collapses in the first episode of season 14, was Owen killed?
Which female doctor died in the plane crash?
There was a plane that went down with many doctors on board, and a few lives and limbs were lost in the process. There was a beautiful young doctor who never made it out of the crash. She was also known as Little Grey and she was deeply in love with Mark Sloan. Arizona had a severe injury to her leg which was later amputated, Derek also had damage to his hand… Do you know which female doctor died in the plane crash?
Derek Shepherd: Dead or Alive?
Just in case you didn’t know, Derek Shepherd studied brain surgery. He has too many sisters and is married to Meredith Grey. They met in a bar, and fell in love. Their relationship was somewhat chaotic, but we loved watching them fall in love and grow together. Just when we started to think all was well with the world ad Grey and Shepherd were finally going to catch a break, bam! Just like that, their entire world gets turned upside down and inside out!
Jackson Avery: Dead or Alive?
Dr Jackson Avery is one of the cutest doctors we have ever seen! He is basically one of the royals and from a strong line of doctors. His grandfather was the legendary Harper Avery. Jackson fell in love with April, they hook up, and they have two children together. Unfortunately their first born doesn't survive. This was one of the very saddest moments on Grey's Anatomy. But, as fate would have it, they end up having a second baby girl together!
Cristina Yang: Dead or Alive?
Cristina was a hardcore intern who turned in to an even more amazing surgeon. Her favorite body part is the heart. This has a lot to do with her trying to save her own father after an accident. He later passed away on the scene. Cristina is one of the Twisted Sisters, Meredith is the other one. We don’t often see Dr Yang in the newer seasons and who knows if she is even still alive? For all we know she went skiing in Switzerland and fell off a cliff…
Harper Avery: Dead or Alive?
Harper Avery is the grandfather of Jackson Avery. The Harper Avery Award is even named after him. When he was admitted in to Seattle Grace Mercy West Hospital he requested that Ellis Grey treats him. As she had passed, he then requested Richard Webber to attend to him. A bowel obstruction was found and surgically treated. Did he survive this surgery, or did he pas away? Only a real fan knows that he survived, and later made another appearance while visiting the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.
Reed Adamson: Dead or Alive?
Reed was a surgical resident from Mercy West Medical Center. She was a part of the merger and later worked at the Seattle Grace Mercy West Hospital. Reed caused some upset when she claimed George’s locker and she even had a hard time with Alex Karev. She tried to help out with Derek’s microsurgery but she failed the test and wasn’t included in this procedure. Reed also flirted with some of the other doctor’s to get herself up the surgical ladder…
Tom Kates: Dead or Alive?
Tom Kates was a professional football player who came in to the hospital with a few injuries, including a concussion, knee injury, damaged spleen and panic attacks. His wife, Jessie, refused to leave him alone with their baby. He wanted to stop playing but didn’t know how to get out of the game. Luckily, he had a fantastic team of doctors who helped him to make his dream come true. Can you remember if Tom survived or if he passed away?
Who got hit by a bus, and died?
This doctor was one of our favorites. He was such a sweet heart and he was besotted with Meredith Grey. Although, when they slept together she ended up in tears… Nonetheless, he married Callie, then cheated on her with Izzie. They also fell in love and although it didn’t last, they were still cute together. On his way to join the army this guy got himself hit by a bus. It wasn’t on purpose, he tried to save someone’s life, which he did. Unfortunately he died in the process.
Mary Portman: Dead or Alive?
Mary was a young lady who was treated by Dr Bailey and Dr Percy while in the hospital. She needed a colostomy bag, and later needed the reversal to be done. She was trapped with Dr Bailey during the shooting that took place in the hospital. Bailey saved her life that day with her quick thinking. She told Mary to play dead and she covered her with a sheet. Bailey hid under the bed and Percy hid in the bathroom. Unfortunately Percy got shot in the abdomen.
Arizona Robbins: Dead or Alive?
Arizona is a pediatric surgeon. She is also homosexual and finds herself in various relationships. She married the vivacious Callie Torres too. She accepted Sofia as her own daughter. Sophia's biological parents were Callie and Mark Sloan. Arizona loves roller-blades, but this seemed challenging after she lost her leg and became an amputee. Her and Callie eventually separated and Callie left town, taking Sofia with her. Arizona loved pizza and she hated sandwiches. She was also one of the 'Seattle Grace Five'.
Charles Percy: Dead or Alive?
Charles Percy joined the other doctor’s in the Seattle Grace Mercy West Hospital after the merger. He was also known as Charlie, Bigfoot and Charlie Brown. The poor guy got caught up in the shooting. He hid away in a patient’s bathroom but after making a noise he was found by the shooter. Charles also confessed that he was a surgeon. He was shot by the gunman. Later, Bailey dressed the wound and headed towards an elevator. Did he survive?
Preston Burke: Dead or Alive?
Preston was the love of Cristina’s life. They were engaged to be married, but on their wedding day he walked out of the chapel. He said it was only fair to Cristina. Needless to say, this really broker her. He moved to another country and married someone else. He eventually drags Cristina all the way to Zurich as well to take over his hospital for him. Cristina thought he was trying to win her back. Does Preston die, or is he still alive?
Ben Warren: Dead or Alive?
Ben was married to Bailey. A unique couple to say the least. He went from anesthetics to surgery and then to wanting to be a fireman... Ben has walked a terribly difficult road. It can't be easy being married to Bailey, after all! Kidding, he did a c-section delivery in the passage way, and this ended very badly. Later he helped to deliver April's baby on Meredith's kitchen table. Ben also helped save Stephanie Edwards from the fire. in the hospital.
Wallace Anderson: Dead or Alive?
Wallace Anderson was just the cutest miniature doctor we ever did see! A 10 year old, male patient that could definitely do ward rounds better than most qualified doctors! He was treated by Arizona and Charles Percy for Short Gut Syndrome, a bowel obstruction and sepsis. Would you believe that this little man had approximately 15 surgeries in his lifetime. Eventually, his family donate $25 Million to the Seattle Grace Mercy West’s pediatrics program to find a cure for Wallace’s condition.
Callie Torres: Dead or Alive?
Callie is an orthopedic surgeon. She was married to the handsome George O'Malley, and Arizona. She had a daughter with Mark Sloan as well. Callie treated hundreds of patients, saving many lives. She helped rehabilitate patients too. Callie and Arizona eventually got divorced. Their journey together was long, and painful. When Callie moved, she took their daughter with her. Later, the little one moves back home to live with Arizona. Is this because Callie passed away while out of town?
Stephanie Edwards: Dead or Alive?
Stephanie was one of the interns who started with Jo, Leah, Heather Shane. They started out as typical silly interns but flourished in to amazing doctors and surgeons. Recently, Stephanie finds herself is a bit of a heated situation. Steph got caught up in a hostage type situation and ends up blowing up part of the hospital in order to save herself and a young child. Can you remember is Stephanie Edwards made it out of the explosion alive or not?
Denny Duquette: Dead or Alive?
Denny was our favorite patient who needed a new heart because his old one was broken. Izzie risked her entire career for him by cutting his LVAD wire. In fact, she even dragged her fellow doctors in to her mess. Eventually Denny was moved to the top of the transplant list and, like magic, he received his new heart. All of the interns where in a huge amount of trouble for this little stunt, and did it even help to save him?
Nathan Riggs: Dead or Alive?
Nathan was a friend of Owen's and he was engaged to Megan (Owen's sister). He spent some time with Maggie and Meredith. Maggie gets the wrong impression from Nathan, and when she finds out that Meredith is also in to Nathan things get ugly between the sisters. One of his favorite snacks is bacon, he often brings it to the hospital. Nathan spent time in the Middle East doing relief work as well. Once Megan is found alive, he leaves the hospital.
Henry Burton: Dead or Alive?
In case you don't know, Henry Burton was Teddy's husband. Cristina was forced to operate on a male patient but she had no idea who it was under the knife. Not that this should have mattered, because any doctor who treats a patient should always do their best. Do you remember what happened on this episode? Did Cristina let Henry Burton die? Dylan Young: Dead or Alive?
In order to answer this question, you have to know who Dylan Young was. He was not a patient, or a fellow doctor. He was one of the men who helped with the patient who had a bomb stuck in his chest... This episode had each and every one of us sitting on the edge of our seat, dead still - just in case our own movement influenced the bomb going off. This was almost as bad as the rogue shooter...
Heather Brooks: Dead or Alive?
Heather Brooks was a young doctor who started her internship with Jo, Shane, Steph and Leah. She was a little bit different to the other interns but she was a sweet girl too. She also got involved in with Alex Karev... Shane Ross sent Heather to do his work for him. She ended up finding Webber, who had been electrocuted. During this time she also sustained an injury. Can you remember if this injury was terminal or did she walk it off?
April Kepner: Dead or Alive?
April was a diligent young doctor from the country. She grew up milking cows and shoveling hay. April started as an intern when the merger took place. She used to carry a little notebook with her, she gave the illusion that this was a note book for her cases, but actually it was a note book full of uplifting compliments to and for herself. She spent time in Iraq working in the war. Did April make it back from the war alive?
Mark Sloan: Dead or Alive?
Mark really was such a ladies man! Just ask any of the hospital nurses, Lexie or even Addison... He actually got himself in to tons of trouble because he couldn't keep his hands to himself. He eventually fell madly in love with Lexie, although they had their hiccups. Lexie and Mark have some difficulty adjusting when Little Sloan moves in with them but in the end everything works out for the best. Can you remember what happened to Mark Sloan?
Craig Thomas: Dead or Alive?
Dr Craig Thomas was a doctor who mentored Cristina while she was working at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. He loved to tell stories which could go on for hours and hours. Cristina, of course, didn't always have the patience to deal with Craig but she had no choice when cornered with a story while in the OR. Dr Thomas eventually collapsed in the OR one day. Can you remember if this fossil of a doctor made it out alive?
Jo Wilson: Dead or Alive?
Spoiler alert if you haven't seen the latest season! Jo Wilson is actually living under a new name! Shocking! She did this to escape her crazy husband who used to beat her to a pulp regularly. Eventually Alex finds out and does what he needs to in order to protect her. In the most recent season Jo finds out that Alex visited her husband. Alex tells Jo that she is basically safe from him. At the end of the last episode she bumps in to her husband...
Izzie Stevens: Dead or Alive?
Izzie is the cancer chick who was married to Alex Karev. She was also engaged to Denny. Izzie goes through tons of treatments and some surgeries in order to try and save her life. After loosing her job at the hospital she decides to leave Seattle. She literally disappears in to thin air, missing all her follow up appointments. She sends Alex divorce papers too. Since we haven't seen Izzie in a while, do we even know if she is still alive?
Amelia Shepherd: Dead or Alive?
Amelia is one of Derek's sisters. A crazy lady who we all end up having a soft spot for. Spoiler alert again, if you haven't seen the latest season... Shonda Rhimes must really think she is funny. Amelia is diagnosed with a brain tumor. This is diagnosed while she partakes in a clinical study, to see what the female brain does during climax... Because of the tumor we will never know if her craziness was the tumor talking, or not.
Who is Bradley Parker, and is he still alive?
This may be a tough one if you haven’t been paying attention. Just as much as we fall in love with the characters of Grey’s Anatomy, the patient’s also crawl in to our hearts. Some of them keep returning to the hospital for follow up treatments, other’s only leave in a coffin. Can you remember who young Bradley Parker was? And if you can remember him, did he die or is he still alive and roaming the streets of Seattle?
Yvonne: Dead or Alive?
Who could forget Yvonne? Sitting next to her injured friend in the hospital after a train crash. She kept answering the phone, telling the caller that someone had tried to out run the train. We can only assume that because she was too busy getting involved in the gossip and drama she didn’t stop to make sure that she, herself, was OK too. Eventually she passes out with her head down and everyone thought she was asleep because she stopped answering the phone…
Shane Ross: Dead or Alive?
Shane was a pesky little guy, with determination to get the things he wanted no matter what. Shane could easily be responsible for Heather's death, but we won't discuss that now. He does seem to be a little bit indecisive when picking his specialty as he moved swiftly from neurosurgery to cardiothoractic surgery. This may also be from the guilt he has over Heather. Cristina and Shane end up doing some 3D printing together as well. Have you noticed he isn't around anymore?
Andrew DeLuca: Dead or Alive?
Andrew was once an EMT or medic. He has a sister named Carina, who is also a doctor. Andrew one day helps a very drunk Jo home from the bar. While trying to get her safely tucked in bed, Alex walks in. He flips out, thinking that Andrew was trying to get in to bed with Jo. To add insult to injury, Jo had just declined Alex's marriage proposal. Alex being Alex, beat Andrew to a pulp. Did he survive?
Susan Grey: Dead or Alive?
Susan Grey was Thatcher Grey's wife. This makes her Meredith's step mother. She came across as sweet and thoughtful and really tried to bond with Meredith. One day, Susan came in to the hospital with the hiccups. Now, this is a family common occurrence, but Susan had been struggling with this for a few days. She was admitted in to the hospital and various tests and treatments commenced. They did everything they could to try and help her. Did she survive?
