Which Member Of The Scooby Gang Are You?

For one reason or another, almost everyone wishes they could be a superhero, or at least have a superpower or two to help us out with every day life. Unfortunately, the odds of this happening are remarkably slim, as even the worlds inhabited by fictional superheroes don’t have that many of them. On the plus side, one of the greatest heroes created in the ‘90s, super or otherwise, happened to have a bunch of friends at her side who us mere mortals may just have a lot in common with.

The appeal of Buffy the Vampire Slayer was much more than the simple pleasures involved in an attractive female beating up vampires. The Slayer’s allies, who she called her Scooby Gang, were all incredibly well written characters, creating very real human beings in the highly fantastical world of Sunnydale. Even Buffy herself was remarkably relatable to her audience, notwithstanding the fact she killed a half dozen or so vampires per week. Metaphorically speaking, that may well have been the most relatable part of her journey.

In the end, though, we can’t all be Buffy Summers. That said, there’s nothing wrong with being a Willow, Giles, or Xander. Heck, even a gal like Cordelia has her positives, although classifying her as an official Scooby might be taking things a step to far. Keeping it confined to the core four, take our quiz and find out which Scooby Gang member you are.

Question 1

The world needs saving. What do you do?

Most of us don’t live in Sunnydale, so luckily, there’s no great call for us to save the world, be it one single time or a whole lot, like Buffy was forced to. Of course, die hard fans of just about any TV show have imagined what it would be like to live alongside our favorite characters, so imagine for this quiz that you happened to be on top of the Hellmouth when answering some of these questions. For this first one, it’s something you’d have to face just about every day, so its important to know how you’d react.

Question 2

How would your friends describe you?

Friendship looks and sounds the same in any language, so you won’t need to live in Sunnydale to answer this one. The whole point of this quiz is how Buffy Summers and her friends interacted, so a key piece of finding out where you fall in that regard would be how your own friends feel about you. Hopefully, the underlying shared emotion is love, or at least strong like, but there are plenty of less specific ways to talk about your closest companions. How would yours talk about you?

Question 3

What were you most like in high school?

When Buffy Summers was first called as the Slayer, she was the typical American high school girl, far more concerned with shopping and cheerleading than demons that go bump in the night. Immediately after gaining her superpowers, though, Buffy started the transformation into the hero we all know and love. As it would turn out, all of her friends went through similar transformations from mere high school stereotypes into fully fledged adults, making their past lives somewhat unimportant. You might feel the same about your own school days…except for the purposes of this quiz.

Question 4

How do you feel about using magic?

Unfortunately, one of the big drawbacks to living in the real world is that magic isn’t a concept we actually get to use. We should only be so lucky, yet on the other hand, there’s a great downside to mystical forces, in that things tend to go pretty horribly when they fall into the wrong hands. With this in mind, can magic truly be trusted as a resource in the heat of a battle where the entire world is at stake? Buffy and her friends ask themselves this question many times, and they all have different takes on the answer. What’s yours?

Question 5

Which of the following best suits your romantic type?

Despite all the violence that seems to fill the Scooby Gang’s lives, Buffy the Vampire Slayer contained countless elements of romance alongside all the vampires and demons. As a matter of fact, those forces of evil were often directly involved with Buffy and her friend’s love lives, with most of them actually serially dating a number of questionable suitors. Of course, in today’s wintery romantic climate, just about everyone could describe one past romantic partner or another in such unflattering terms. Maybe we wouldn’t all go that far, but you can probably make a generality that matches the experiences of someone in the Scoobies.

Question 6

Do you consider yourself a risk taker?

When there are vampires luring behind every corner, merely going outside can constitute a huge risk. Unless one happens to be the Slayer, of course, in which case the only people in jeopardy are the undead monsters about to meet a stake in the heart. However, not even Buffy’s friends are always safe from the soulless monsters ready to suck their bloods at a moment’s notice, yet they continue to do so night after night supporting their friend. How would you compare in that same scenario?

Question 7

Who do you protect above all else?

Whether or not vampires pose a constant threat in your life, there are nonetheless certain things in the real world that we wish our loved ones could forever avoid. Parents probably feel this most strongly for their children, yet most people have these sorts of feelings for someone or other in their lives. Naturally, the Scooby Gang was no different, with each of them fighting not only to save themselves, but indeed the entire world. That said, there are also specific people within the world who were inspiring them to fight the hardest.

Question 8

What’s your perfect evening?

For the entire Scooby Gang, the perfect night could be achieved simply through the absence of vampires or demons. Luckily, the rest of us don’t need to deal with their problems, so our ideas of life lived to its fullest are probably a whole lot more specific. That said, it also means what we want out of life can greatly vary from person to person, which has he unexpected plus side that we can use our desires to match ourselves to Buffy or her friends.

Question 9

Who do you live with?

Throughout the course of seven seasons on the air, Buffy and her friends tend to move around a lot, albeit always within the confines of Sunnydale. It makes sense, considering the Scooby Gang mostly start the show as young adults near the end of high school, ready to branch out on their own for the first time. Like many youngsters, they can’t all afford housing on their own and need to find various roommates at times. Chances are if you live in the modern world you went through something similar.

Question 10

Which of the following would you consider your special skill?

Technically speaking, Buffy’s special skill is Slaying, Willow’s is magic, Xander’s is his military knowledge, and Giles…well, Giles is just a master at everything. However, in the real world, two of these concepts don’t even exist, and one can’t exactly learn everything there is to know about combat via a Halloween costume the way Xander did, so even if you do share that skill set, it doesn’t necessarily make you similar to the guy. However, the Scooby Gang also have more general skills that some of us might actually share.

Question 11

Which of Buffy’s Big Bads did you hate the most?

In terms of their sheer chaos, each Big Bad faced by the Scooby Gang was worse than the last. Well, okay, the Trio weren’t quite as bad as Glory, but Warren did kill Tara, which was pretty much just as bad as destroying the entire world so far as Willow was concerned. With this thought in mind, each character on Buffy probably had an arch nemesis they concerned to truly be the worst of all, and fans of the show are much the same in this regard. Ultimately, Buffy beat them all into submission, so which Big Bad’s demise was most satisfying to watch?

Question 12

What kind of music do you like?

Quoting the eternal words of Madonna, music makes the people come together. Yeah. This is often true with the Scooby Gang along with the rest of the world, as Buffy and her friends began countless capers when something strange went down at The Bronze, where they all initially went simply to dance the night away. Most people are stricken with feelings of tarantism now and again, yet we all have our own specific proclivities when it comes to the sort of tunes that can make us get funky.

Question 13

Who should Buffy have ended up with romantically?

Most Buffy fans could probably sit around all day and wax philosophically on whom each and every character was destined to be with, but there’s really no point to it all considering who was writing the show. Joss Whedon has long been notorious for killing off the characters his audience loves the most, especially those embroiled in romantic storylines, using the death to drive their love to madness. Nonetheless, fans always crossed their fingers and hoped the Slayer would find happiness in the end, either with one of the men she previously loved, or even the guy who clearly loved her all along.

Question 14

Do you think you have what it takes to be the Slayer?

Ultimately, it doesn’t matter whether or not a girl feels like she’s up for the job when the powers that be call for her to become the Slayer. These things are decided far in advance and regardless of a person’s emotional constitution, which is why most Slayers don’t hold on to their job for particularly long. Of course, this hardly means we can’t all dream and wonder what if, questioning how we could respond if suddenly tasked with saving the world. A lot.

Question 15

How do you feel about your family?

No matter what superpowers a person gains throughout their life, we all start in relatively the same way. Everyone except the most unlucky souls are born with parents and usually a larger family beyond that, yet how these people treat us from a young age will forever dictate how we feel about them the rest of our lives. They say you can’t escape your family, and that may be true, but then again, a large number of people would never want to. Where in the discussion do you fall?

Question 16

What comes to your mind when thinking about the Slayer dating a vampire?

One way to look at Buffy Summers is to suggest being a Slayer wasn’t even the hardest part of her life. Much more difficult for the young girl to deal with was the fact she was not only the Slayer, but also in love with a vampire named Angel. And then a vampire named Spike. She also may have had a small thing for Dracula, but who hasn’t at one point or another? Regardless of the specifics, point is Buffy’s love life is often in direct opposition to her stated mission. How does this make you feel?

Question 17

How many vampires do you think you could kill?

No matter how powerful Buffy Summers may being, ridding the world of vampires is in some respects a numbers game one girl alone simply can’t win. Even with the Scooby Gang at her side, it’s virtually impossible for Buffy to dust every single vampire in the world, not to mention the demons and run-of-the-mill villains backing them up. All she or her friends can hope for is to destroy as many baddies as possible. In the same situation, how long do you think you could last against these vicious demons?

Question 18

What professional are you best suited for?

The horrific danger Buffy constantly faces notwithstanding, the worst part of her job might actually be the fact she doesn’t get paid to perform it. In one of the show’s most maligned plot lines, this leads to her taking a job at the local fast food joint Doublemeat Palace, a questionable albeit logical move considering she had a giant house and younger sister that both required a significant amount of monetary resources. Quite frankly, it’s hard to imagine anyone actually wanting to work in fast food, Buffy included, but we don’t always have a choice…do you?

Question 19

What’s your preferred method of dusting a vamp?

When it comes down to the brass tacks, all that matters about slaying a vampire is that they stay dead after the job is done. However, given the sheer number of vamps Buffy and her Scooby Gang are forced to square off against during their time together, it goes without saying they’ve used more than a few unique methods to send those demons back to hell where they belong. Wooden stakes through the heart are usually most convenient, but if there’s a second option available, would you try and use it?

Question 20

Did you play any sports as a child?

Given she’s been mystically imbued with superpowers, it almost goes without saying that Buffy Summers could be pretty great at just about any sport she tried. Unfortunately, her born duty kind of gets in the way of high school athletics, derailing her budding cheerleading career and preventing her from even trying any other competitive games. Luckily, you aren’t the Slayer, and therefore you’ve probably had plenty of time to dabble in sports throughout your life. Did you ever give them a go?

Question 21

What is your biggest fear?

Despite the brave face she’s forced to put on when fighting vampires, make no mistake about it—there were times throughout Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s run where the girl in question was scared out of her mind. It was the fact Buffy kept fighting anyway that made her so iconic, and while none of us have experienced quite this same type of perseverance, the concept is strong in the minds of anyone to overcome the slightest hardship, especially those that terrify us.

Question 22

Do you have (or plan to have) any children?

Truth be told, Buffy probably doesn’t have the time to raise any children, and her experiences with men make it unlikely she’d even settle down with one of them in the first place. Considering none of us have to deal with life as the Slayer, however, if we spend our lives without producing any offspring, there’s probably a greater degree of choice involved. It’s hard to imagine anyone on Buffy raising a child, at least not until years after the Hellmouth was dealt with, but have you?

Question 23

Do you have any enemies?

No matter how hard a person tries to make everybody like them, such a goal is pretty much unattainable in the modern world. Sunnydale isn’t that far away from Los Angeles, where a man once infamously asked, “Can’t we all just get along,” and the unfortunate response was more-or-less a resounding, “Nope.” That said, plenty of us have nonetheless tried to live out this maxim, even when navigating through this dark and difficult universe filled with contentious souls. Have you crossed any of them the wrong way?

Question 24

What should happen to the worst human criminals?

By and large, the demons faced by Buffy Summers and her friends are of the literal variety; hell beasts and various spawn of Satan with no souls or concern for human life in the slightest. However, a select few of the bad guys Buffy runs into are basically normal people, aside from the fact something happened in their lives to turn them towards sheer villainy. This always causes an inner conflict for the Slayer, who knows she can’t just kill a human no matter the circumstance. How would you handle the situation?

Question 25

If life were a musical, what type of song would you sing?

Arguably the most famous individual episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer deals with a demon named Sweet, who comes to Sunnydale and inflicts a curse that causes the residents to spontaneously break into song again and again. Quite frankly, if there’s any one demon on Buffy people may actually wish was real, Sweet’s probably our guy, because who wouldn’t like a world filled with all singing and all dancing? Well, all right, not everyone likes the spotlight, but it sure beats getting bitten in the neck and sucked dry.
