Which Harry Potter Villain Are You?

1.4K Shares

The world of Harry Potter, while fun and magical, is filled to the brim with dark and violent themes and people. From the very beginning, before Harry is fully introduced to the world of magic, Hagrid tells him that not all wizards are good- and that's a theme that continues throughout the series as Harry learns to deal with his own inner demons.

Of all of the wizards, there are several who went as dark as you could possibly go. Using their power to make others serve them (and torture those who didn't comply), they tried to conquer the Muggle and Wizarding Worlds respectively. They had names that were feared across the globe, and no one wanted to cross them.

Yet, we all have a dark side to us, regardless of how good we think we may be. While we may look at a villain and state how their actions are horrible, there are times where we find ourselves in similar situations with similar outcomes (albeit on a much smaller scale). You may discover that we're more like the villains of the Harry Potter universe than we may initially expect.

On that note, would you like to find out which one you are?

Question 1

If you were in charge of the world, how would you run it?

This is a fundamental question that any storyteller must ask when constructing a villain: if they were to achieve their goal (assuming they have already defined that), what would the villain do? Some of them would raze everything to the ground while others would work on deciding what they wanted from their position. This is true in Harry Potter villains and it's true for you as well.

Question 2

Which teaching position would you most like at Hogwarts?

Hogwarts is an institution like any other (if you include magic, that is). In it, there are clear rules and roles that must be defined and upheld by selected members. Numerous wizards have come to this glorious castle to teach various tricks and spells to new students. Even the villains of the Wizarding World have expressed a desire to teach, whether it be for their own gain or amusement.

Question 3

If your life was on the line, would you betray your best friends?

Betrayal was a theme constantly explored in the Harry Potter series. In The Prisoner of Azkaban, a large amount of time was spent of the supposed death of Peter Pettigrew. While the film built up Sirius Black as the man who betrayed Lily and James Potter, it was actually Pettigrew who was responsible. Never quite knowing how to be a good person or servant, he always hid in the shadows.

Question 4

If you had to kill off one main Harry Potter character, who would it be?

It's amazing that seven books and eight movies were able to hold us over while focusing on the development of the same three characters the entire time. We got to grow up with them and experience their victories and losses as well as learning what made them tick. Because of their good-hearted nature, they were inexplicably targeted by the villains, with Harry at the center of it all.

Question 5

In Voldemort's Army, which position would you most likely take?

Voldemort spends his time in the Harry Potter series building his army before it all comes to a head in The Deathly Hallows. When it all begins to crash down, he has a massive army at his disposal, ready to fight to the very last breath. Everyone in his army has their own position that they chose for themselves, whether it be as a right-hand man or a nameless servant at the bottom of the totem pole.

Question 6

In a fight, which spell would you use first?

Spells are the bread and butter of the Harry Potter world. As kids learn that they are of magical heritage, they are inducted into a universe that is filled with all kinds of tricks and abilities that they will use for the rest of their lives. Wizards easily favor some spells over the rest, and that goes for the dark ones as well. They generally prefer the more violent spells to get the job done.

Question 7

What is your favorite color?

While seemingly a small part of a personality test, color is a strong factor in determining someone's tastes. Generally, those who like warm colors are fiery and short-tempered. Others who like cool colors are more composed and go with the flow. While color is not a huge factor of the Harry Potter universe, it does factor into how we present ourselves, and as an extension, how we will act as villains.

Question 8

Which Harry Potter movie is your favorite?

While the books are extremely popular, it's the Harry Potter movies that really put the series on the map. What's most impressive is that they capture the tone of the series as well as the progression from light-hearted tales to darker elements. Everyone has chosen their favorite at this point for one reason or another. Some scenes are in one film, and specific villains are held off to a different one.

Question 9

Which statement best describes your sense of loyalty?

Loyalty is another popular theme in the Harry Potter series. While we are constantly questioned if the other Hogwarts students are loyal to Harry, the same topic comes up when dealing with Voldemort. How loyal are his servants? To what end are they willing to go to please their master? Your sense of loyalty defines what villain you would be, but also what type of person you would be.

Question 10

What is your ideal form of punishment?

Punishment is one of those topics that the world will never agree on. Some people feel that it's okay to spank your children if they act out, while others see that as unethical and controlling. Punishment is an interesting concept to think about, as it also involves people kicking an opponent while they're down to ensure that they never act out again. It's a touchy subject and one that we all have our own thoughts about.

Question 11

When committing horrible acts, how would you respond to the public?

Something interesting that the Harry Potter series does is not only give us a slew of bad guys but see them trying to influence the political side of the Wizarding World. They know that if the public is constantly told to be afraid and rise up against the Death Eaters, they would be more likely to do so. But if they are told nothing and left in the dark, then they'll be more prone to give in to fear.

Question 12

Which Horcrux would you guard?

Horcruxes are some of the darkest pieces of magic ever explored in the Wizarding World. Not only were they a powerful artifact, but it was taken to a whole new extreme when it was revealed that Voldemort had seven of them in total (many more than the usual amount). This led to a chase on Harry's end to find and destroy them all to kill Voldemort, while his servants faithfully guarded them.

Question 13

Which painful memory best describes your past?

The past is what defines us in the future, and this is prevalent in pop culture, whether it be superhero films or the Harry Potter series. As a matter of fact, the entire thematic conflict between Harry and Voldemort is built around the idea that they came from similar upbringings but couldn't be any more different. Likewise, our memories motivate us to act in the present, and it's something that we can all relate to.

Question 14

What is your opinion of Severus Snape?

Severus Snape is one of the biggest characters in the Harry Potter series. From the moment Harry walked into Hogwarts, he and the audience knew that there was something different about Snape. When Voldemort finally returned, Snape's allegiance was tested along with many other witches and wizards. His actions, in the end, became one of the most talked about parts of the series.

Question 15

What is your ultimate goal?

Everyone- hero or villain- has an ultimate goal. These goals motivate them to establish means of achieving them. This is where lines get drawn and blurred at the same time. Some feel that their great goals justify their questionable means, while others are just bad for the sake of being bad. Some are the complete opposite and feel that one must only undergo moral methods to reach moral goals.

Question 16

Which of the Deathly Hallows would you use?

In the final entry of the Harry Potter series, the concept of the Deathly Hallows was introduced (though it had been built up from the very beginning). The story states that Death itself created three powerful objects, the Elder Wand, Resurrection Stone, and Cloak of Invisibility, to satisfy the achievement of three clever brothers. These objects later appeared in the Wizarding World and were massive parts of the climax.

Question 17

Which wand would you use?

Wands are an important part of the Wizarding World. Not only is their outer construction important, but so is their inner material. Some are composed with Phoenix Tailfeathers, but others are put together with Dragon Heartstrings. The differences don't begin and end there, though. The wand then must choose its own wizard, which both tells a lot about the magic users who acquire them and their potential.

Question 18

Would you become a Death Eater?

The Death Eaters were known as the most powerful servants of Lord Voldemort. They were imbued with dark magic that allowed them to quickly travel in puffs of smoke. On top of that, they had markings that could be used to call the Dark Lord to their location. They proved to be the most loyal servants of Voldemort, as they were primarily the ones who were hunting down Harry and his friends.

Question 19

What is your Patronus?

The Patronus Charm is another fundamental aspect of the Harry Potter series. While its primary function is to hold back a Dementor, it does more for the story outside of that. It requires that the user look to happy memories in order to create one, which manifests itself as a specific animal. There are two important things to note here: the Patronus can change form over time as people change- and not everyone can conjure one due to their own lives.

Question 20

Which spell do you fear the most?

While the Dark Wizards of Harry Potter are often the source of fear for many others, even they have their own weaknesses. As a matter of fact, much of the series is spent with the common wizards rising up, fighting back, and using Voldemort's weaknesses against him. As you can imagine, particular spells took care of many Dark Wizards and creatures, factoring into the most memorable moments of the franchise.

Question 21

Which methods of torture scare you the most?

To get information and a change of attitude, sometimes the villains of the world will resort to torture. Take Neville Longbottom's parents, for example. They were found by some Death Eaters and tortured to the point where they became permanently insane and couldn't even remember that they had a son. This subject comes up many more times in the Harry Potter franchise and says a lot about whoever is enacting the torture.

Question 22

What's your opinion on Muggle-born wizards?

Muggle-born wizards are interesting occurrences where parents who cannot practice magic give birth to a child who can. When this happens, the child faces a lot of prejudice from other wizards, particularly those of the dark sort. Some are so disgusted by them that they refer to Muggle-born wizards as "Mudbloods." This was a great motivating factor to many villains within the series.

Question 23

Which statement best describes your love life?

Of all of the supporting themes of Harry Potter, love is the main point. Love is what saved him from Voldemort as an infant, and love is what carried him through to the very end. Along the way, his relationship with his friends was defined by love, and it affected how he went about saving the world. Conversely, the villains were affected by their lack of love for others and themselves, which ultimately led to their downfall.

Question 24

How would you respond if Voldemort returned?

Voldemort was so feared by the Wizarding World that no one could even say his name. His return was talked about for many years, but until the Goblet of Fire, he never actually did it. Then it came time for him to return to a physical form, and the entire series took a turn for the worst after that (and we mean that in the best way possible). His servants came out of the shadows and the war began.

Question 25

Which house do you belong to?

Gryffindor is absent from this question because there are clear allegiances that the houses find themselves in. The reader is meant to believe that only good people get into Gryffindor, and that is the case throughout the series. As for the other three houses, a different tale is told (for the most part). Determining where you belong will often determine the kind of villain you will end up becoming- especially if you're a Slytherin.
