Well over a decade since the finale, Friends is still one of the most popular sitcoms of all time - and fans will always be debating which of these six New Yorkers is most like them. It's a fun game to play, picking and choosing personality traits that are most like those of these six Central Perk regulars... but it's not the only question that fans can ask.
Instead of choosing which Friend you might be, we wonder which Friend you might date... if you lived in a sitcom version of New York in the 90s, that is! Although the gang ends up mostly paired off by the end of the tenth season, with only Joey still single, it takes them a long time to get there. Rachel and Ross are on-again, off-again right up to the finale, Ross is divorced time and time again, and while Joey enjoys plenty of casual fun, Monica, Phoebe and Chandler all have their fair share of bad dates and romantic moments.
If you wandered into Central Perk, who might you end up going on a date with? Would it be a fling with Joey, a passionate romance with Phoebe, or even a quickie marriage to Ross (followed by a quickie divorce, of course)? Take our quiz to find out which of the Friends is your perfect pairing for a little fun in the city...
Where would you go on a first date?
It’s first date time! We all know that first impressions are the most important, so where are you going to take your date to really blow them away… and show them the kind of person that you really are? Budget is no issue, so which of these activities would you love to share with a romantic interest?
What are you wearing on your date?
Your date is set, and they loved your idea of where to go and what to do. Now it’s time to look good - and that means shopping for a new outfit that perfectly matches your style (but looks better than anything you already own). What do you choose to wear on the date?
Early bird or night owl?
Are you the kind of person who leaps out of bed before the sun rises, or the kind who sees the sunrise only after staying up all night? After all, it matters - if an early bird tries to date a night owl, things aren’t going to last long…
What's your pet peeve?
Pet peeves, we’ve all got ‘em! What’s that one thing that sets your teeth on edge and just makes you want to scream… but that other people might find endearing, or not even notice at all? If you are going to spend your life with someone, they can’t drive you crazy!
How long do you spend getting ready?
The outfit is ready and waiting, and you are leaving the house to meet your date in five hours. For some people, that’s more than enough time to get ready (and do eight other things), but others like to put a lot more time and effort into their first date look… which are you?
How do you feel about marriage?
It won’t be first date conversation, but if things go well… how do you feel about walking down that aisle and making a commitment to be with someone else for the rest of your life? If this date turned out to be ‘the one’, would you be happy, or a little freaked out?
Would you ever cheat?
It’s time to be honest - would you ever, or have you ever, cheated on your partner in a relationship? For some people, infidelity is a deal breaker, while for others it’s just an unfortunate thing that can usually be worked out. Some are even ok with dating more than one person at a time, but where do you stand on the issue?
What about kids?
Now we know how you feel about a big white wedding, but what about the part that comes after? If you get married, (or even if you don’t), are you looking forward to a big family, or just some fur-babies around the house? How many kids would you have, in a perfect world?
What do you think is your best trait as a partner?
We all have strengths and weaknesses, and when it comes to relationships, it’s important that both partners balance each other out. Opposites attract, and if two people are too similar, they can bring out the worst in one another. What is your one strongest trait in a relationship?
Do you even lift, bro?
Working out has become a huge part of our lives, and everyone seems to have a favorite way to keep fit. From gym bunnies who love to talk gains, to zumba lovers and the crossfit-obsessed who keep flinging tires around, what’s your poison when it comes to getting physical?
What kind of pet would you have?
Pets are sweet, cuddly, and tell you a lot about their owners. It’s true what they say, people tend to look a lot like their pets! Pets also come as a package, so you better want to have the same kind of furballs as your partner; after all, Fido was there first.
How do you feel about overly enthusiastic people?
You are on your date, and they are the most enthusiastic person you have ever met. They have enough energy that you wonder if they mainlined coffee before showing up, and there’s always a huge grin on their face. How do you react to being around such an intensely positive person?
How important are looks to you?
Beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, but you are the one doing the beholding… so how important are looks to you? Are you all about having some army candy to make everyone jealous, or are you more interested in what’s underneath your date’s good looks (or lack of them)?
Are you easily embarrassed?
It would be great if life were always easy, and nothing ever went wrong… but sometimes, that’s just not the case. When it comes to embarrassing situations, are you one of those who can laugh it off and keep their cool, or are you waiting for the ground to open up and swallow you?
What's your Halloween costume?
The leaves are falling and there are aisles of candy in the grocery stores… that’s right, it’s nearly Halloween! You and your significant other are headed to a costume party for the night, but what have you chosen as a Halloween costume for this year?
How much of a gossip are you?
Ah, gossip… nothing like sitting down with a friend over some coffee and catching up on all the news, right? Or maybe you aren’t the kind of person to sit and gossip over every detail of other peoples’ lives - at least, not that you would admit in public!
Group dates: fun or not?
Sometimes going out on a date one on one can be a little intimidating, which is why group dates were invented. Going out with a bigger gang can mean fewer awkward silences, even if you don’t get to know your date quite as well as you would alone. Are you a fan of the group date?
How much do you love food?
A good meal is an absolutely classic date, but not all food is created equal. How much do you care about what’s put on your plate? Is it gourmet all the way, or are you more concerned with healthy eating than decadence? Most importantly of all, would you eat a cheesecake off the floor, if it was really, really, good?
What are you reading?
Are you a bookworm, or more of a magazine kind of person? Would you leave a date if they said that they have never read a book in their life? Reading can be a wonderful hobby, but it can also be divisive… and similar reading habits can make for a much happier relationship.
Are you competitive?
A little competition can be healthy, but some people hate any at all… and others take things much too far! How competitive are you? Do you hide from game nights, or do others have to hide from you ON game nights for fear of having dishes thrown at their heads?
How do you end the date?
Your date is over, and you've had a wonderful time... now you are standing at the door of their apartment, and it's time to wrap things up. What do you do to say goodbye? Do you have a special ‘move’, stick to a classic kiss, or maybe you aren’t ready to go home yet…
Have you ever got a little wild in public?
We’re getting a little personal here, but how do you feel about public displays of affection… or perhaps, displays of a little bit more than just affection? Have you ever been caught in a compromising position in public? (Or maybe you have always stuck strictly to the bedroom...)
What do you do for work?
A career doesn’t have to define you, but it does tell someone a lot about your priorities… and your schedule! What do you do for a living, and how important is it to you? Are you just paying the bills, or are you lucky enough to follow your passion and make money doing it at the same time?
Are you glued to your phone?
The friends didn’t have smartphones, but we’ve come a long way since then. Phones are no longer just for making calls, but usually used more for posting on social media, checking e-mails, texting, and even playing games. Some people consider it a blight, and others, a blessing. How do you feel - are you always attached to your cellphone?
Finally - how important are your friends?
Dating is great and all, but friends are the ones who will stand by you through all the bad dates and broken hearts… and then keep standing by you on your wedding day (or days, *cough* Ross) and for all the years to come. How important are your friends to you?
