Which Dunder Mifflin Employee Would You Be?

4.4K Shares

Considering the premise of the show, it’s almost ironic that so many fans of The Office would find themselves wishing they worked for Dunder Mifflin, Scranton. The whole point of the series was how terrible being employed be Michael Scott would be, yet thousands of viewers worldwide felt the hilarious antics Jim, Pam, and the rest of the crew got into were way better than their own everyday lives.

Despite the bulk of the program dealing with half the characters desire to get the hell out of their mundane lives, there’s no denying the experiences shared by the characters of The Office were also quite beautiful in their own way. On top of all the laughs, there were also a handful of passionate romances, some of which the parties involved don’t even regret, having turned them into happy families. And that simple humor is nothing to be discounted, especially consider it sometimes elevated to levels of sheer euphoria.

With all this praise in mind, it’s also worth noting that just because a person would find working at Dunder Mifflin kinda fun, this hardly means they wouldn’t soon find their coworkers annoying the heck out of them in short order. It happened to every single character on the show, so if you want a preview of who will end up bothering you the most, take our quiz and discover which cast member of The Office you are and remember they had a few enemies that probably make you glad you work someplace else.

Question 1

Do you like your job?

For as torturous as it often looked, not every character on The Office totally hated their jobs. Jim and Pam had one another to help them get through the day, Dwight had his slavish devotion to the company line, and Michael got to spend all day long with his closest friends, whether they wanted to or not. The smaller characters also had reasons to enjoy themselves, but there’s nonetheless a question to whether or not the positives outweigh the negatives. How does your own comparison compare to the employees at Dunder Mifflin?

Question 2

What, if anything, is the best part of your workplace?

Even people who hate every minute of their jobs can usually find one or two minute positives that makes it worth doing on a daily basis. In the very least, whatever one’s job is, they get paid to be there, and money can justify just about anything in high enough numbers. At Dunder Mifflin, the money isn’t that great, yet the employees working at the Scranton branch nonetheless find plenty of things that put smiles on their faces when they hit the office. Do you?

Question 3

What is your ultimate goal in life?

Because of Jim and Pam’s relationship, in a certain respect, The Office redefined the very meaning of the word “goals,” changing it to mean a personification of a perfect relationship. Of course, not everyone in the world would call this his or her primary raison d’être. Finding true love is nice and all, but for many people, a happy home life isn’t all the only way to achieve true happiness. The employees of Dunder Mifflin have some pretty lofty goals, all of which would take them far away from the office. What’s yours?

Question 4

How many children do you want?

For the staff of Dunder Mifflin, the things happening inside their office merely make up a small portion of their lives. Granted, audiences don’t know a whole lot about all of them, but we can rest assured the personas people wear at work doesn’t necessarily match their off-hours personality. Pretty much everyone is different around their family than they are with their friends, let alone coworkers. In fact, even having family or friends is somewhat of a personal choice, especially in regards to building a family and having children. How do you feel on the subject?

Question 5

Would you feel bad if you had to fire someone?

To Michael Scott, his employees truly are his closest and best friends, making it extremely hard for him to let one of them go. From the very beginning, The Office deals with this struggle head on, as corporate downsizing means Michael is going to be forced to fire at least a handful of employees in the immediate future. Later on, both Jim and Dwight see themselves promoted to similar positions, and all take the role in different ways. If you had to tell someone they lost their job, how would you handle it?

Question 6

Who is your favorite side character on The Office?

While most discussion about The Office is related to the main characters, let’s not forget about the dozen plus employees of Dunder Mifflin who receive a smaller focus than Michael and his most popular staff members. Note we said popular and not entertaining, as in many cases, the supporting cast of The Office was easily the funniest and most exciting part of the show. Fans didn’t always get to see much of them, yet we nonetheless got enough information to create fully formed ideas of who these people were in and out of the office. Who would you want to hang out with?

Question 7

Do you consider yourself creative?

A sad reality of life is that not everyone is cut out to achieve whatever it is they hope for in life. For most of the people working at Dunder Mifflin, Scranton, they’re stuck there because dreams of loftier goals are unrealistic. Michael’s sense of humor means he’ll never be the improv/movie star he dreams of being, and even Pam’s art has been cast aside as derivative by everyone except her closest friends. Of course, both still consider themselves quite creative in their own way, not letting these issues bog them down. Are you the same?

Question 8

What word best sums up your ideal relationship?

Since Jim and Pam’s marriage redefined the word “goals,” it should go without saying the writers of The Office had a pretty good idea of what the average TV viewer wanted out of a relationship. However, average is hardly the same as universal, and many people no doubt watched Jim and Pam build a life together and wonder what all the hoopla was about. Sure, they had two kids and seemed relatively happy together, but was it really perfect? Naturally, that depends on one’s definition of perfection, so in terms of a relationship, what’s yours?

Question 9

Who is the most annoying character on The Office?

All right, so there are plenty of characters on The Office who everyone loves, but let’s not forget there are also a half dozen outright insane employees at Dunder Mifflin making it hell for the good ones. Unsurprisingly, these feelings of enmity are often mutual, due to severely divergent personalities being kept together in close quarters. For this reason, some of the most popular characters on the show are often the most hated, though it’s not like the ones you’d expect to have enemies don’t have plenty of them, as well.

Question 10

Which of the following TV shows do you like the most?

Chances are at least a majority of the people taking this quiz would call The Office their favorite TV show, or at least one of them. Of course, it’s hardly the only show out there worth a person’s time, especially if they don’t happen to be fans of the comedy genre. Others prefer musicals, dramas, science fiction, or perhaps they’d just do away with all the scripted stuff and prefer to watch their favorite sports. Because the cast of The Office couldn’t simply watch themselves, they’re forced to watch something else. If you were in a similar situation, what would be on your Netflix?

Question 11

What’s your favorite sport?

As Toby Flenderson once explained, sitting around behind a computer all day isn’t that great for a person’s body. While Dunder Mifflin’s HR rep simply suggests standing up and talking a walk for about 10 minutes every hour, another option for the staff would be to engage in some athletic activity during their off hours. Surprisingly, almost all of them do exactly that, always willing to pass around a pigskin, or shoot some hoops, or really anything else that lets them avoid doing work for a couple hours.

Question 12

How do you feel about playing pranks on your coworkers?

Arguably the most iconic element of Jim Halpert’s legendary and contentious relationship with desk mate Dwight Schrute is the pranks they play on one another. For the most part, only Jim’s are successful, with any attempt at revenge made by Dwight usually blowing up in his face. The rest of the office naturally has their feelings on this rivalry, watching it play out in front of them on a daily basis and having no choice but to form an opinion on it. Viewers of the show generally found it hilarious, but if you were in the same situation, how would you behave?

Question 13

What’s your dream home?

In the end, where a person makes their money isn’t all that important to who they are as a person. Work only takes up a small portion of the average person’s time, as most of us spend far more time at home, relaxing or, let’s face it, sleeping off the nonsense endured throughout the day. Because of this, many people put more stock in where they want to live than they do in the sort of work they seek to fund living there. With this in mind, where would you live if money wasn’t a factor?

Question 14

Which Dundie would you win?

Throughout most of the year, working at Dunder Mifflin is hardly a picnic, yet one must admit Michael Scott does his best to reward his employees for their efforts, and as often as possible, at that. Nothing exemplifies this feeling more than his yearly award show, the Dundies, where he gives out specialized statuettes to each of his workers. Unfortunately, not all of us have bosses who are quite this generous, so we may never get a chance to win our own Dundie or appropriate equivalent. If given the chance, however, which one do you believe you’d nab?

Question 15

Are you good at your job?

All right, so let’s forget for a second about our personalities and whether or not we actually like our jobs and think for a second about how we cam to having them. Almost everyone working for Dunder Mifflin has one thing in common with the fact they’re actually pretty good at what they do, with a few blatant exceptions in Kevin and Creed notwithstanding. Of course, the standards they hold themselves too are very different, so merely competent performance may not suffice for them. Others strive for greatness, and some might just not even care.

Question 16

What role would you play in Threat Level Midnight?

Always favoring himself a creative type and desperate to prove that quality to the world, it was only a matter of time before Michael Scott wrote, produced, directed, and starred in his own movie. It was also inevitable that Scott has less in common with Orson Welles than he does with Tommy Wiseau, his sole opus the bizarre and almost incomprehensible spy thriller Threat Level Midnight. Unfortunately, this film doesn’t exist in the real world, but we bet a few Office fans have acted own their own home versions more than once. If you did, what character would you be?

Question 17

Which of the following is your favorite genre of film?

There’s more than entertainment to TV alone, and for those who feel a mere half hour of moving pictures isn’t enough, the film industry exists with plenty of options to meet that need. Michael Scott knows this well, implementing a movie day once a week so he and his workers could enjoy films like Varsity Blues, though it ultimately devolved into binging on and rewatching the same few episodes of Entourage. If you were in charge of the idea, what kind of movies would your staff watch?

Question 18

What’s your ideal meal?

Let’s face it, there are countless circumstances in life that are way beyond human control. All anyone can do in preparation for a “good day at the office” is cross their fingers and hope for the best, giving extra attention to the few elements we can pick and choose, such as the things we eat every day. Obviously, we all have our favorites in this regard, from the actual type of food we consume to how its cooked and prepared. Some people may have no preference, which is in itself making a huge statement. If you were in Dunder Mifflin’s break room, what might you get caught snacking on?

Question 19

Have you ever gotten into a fight?

One of the positives about life inside an office is that if nothing else, there’s really no danger to the situation. At their worst, going to work is annoying, sure, but at least we almost never get hurt when doing so. Unless, of course, one’s personality is so combative that they ever get into quarrels in the middle of their day job. For all their faults, only a small number of The Office cast members have this problem. Unfortunately for the rest of them, those few angry people bring their rage into the workplace a little too often for comfort.

Question 20

What kind of party are you most likely to throw?

At Dunder Mifflin, work often comes secondary to having a good time, or at least that’s Michael Scott's intention with most of his absurd and disastrous ideas. The easiest way for him to turn life in the office into an all house party is to do so literally, throwing more shindigs, soirees, and box socials than any other business in history. Catching this bug, Michael’s employees have also thrown countless celebrations of their own, and watching The Office, the same thing could happen to viewers. Has it happened to you?

Question 21

Do you like your boss?

Is it possible for a person to hate their job and nonetheless like their boss? Perhaps. But, what if their boss happens to be Michael Scott? Obviously, the situation gets a little more dicey from there. Luckily, however, socially inept people like Michael rarely get promoted to middle management in the real world, saving us the torment. On the downside, it turns out some employers in this world are way worse than Michael could ever be. Where does your own boss fall on the spectrum?

Question 22

Is Hilary Swank hot?

Okay, so let’s push aside the specifics of life in the office for one question and talk about a subject of far more serious social and political import. Since the mid-‘90s onward, Hilary Swank has been one of Hollywood’s most successful actresses from both a critical and financial standpoint. Swank has won two Oscars for her work having starred in Boys Don’t Cry and Million Dollar Baby, and there’s no denying her talents on the silver screen. More importantly, however, is she hot? Dunder Mifflin’s employees spent a full day debating the subject; which side did you land on?

Question 23

Have you ever done drugs?

When some people have trouble dealing with the hustle and bustle of every day life, they make the questionable choice of turning to some chemical enhancement to help them get through it. In other words, smoking weed or even doing more harmful drugs can make it far easier to cope with a job you find beneath you, loaded with irritating coworkers who make existence hell on a daily basis. If things didn’t go well during your time in Dunder Mifflin, might you turn to drugs to solve the problem?

Question 24

Have you ever donated blood?

Most people like to consider themselves charitable in one way or another, yet not all of us do anything to prove it. The staff of Dunder Mifflin are similar to the rest of us in this regard, especially Michael Scott, who once made a promise to pay for a classroom of children’s college tuitions without having anywhere near the resources to do so. While that episode ended in disaster, Michael has at least tried to give back in other ways, as well, having donated blood at least once. Many of his employees followed the boss’s lead—would you?

Question 25

Who’s your favorite character on the original UK version of The Office?

Despite how deeply America has fallen in love with The Office, one thing fans tend to forget these days is that the show wasn’t an original idea, having already existed and achieved great fame across the pond. Originally, The Office was a program about the Slough branch of Wernham Hogg Paper Company, lead by an equally inept maniac named David Brent. There’s also a British version of Jim and Pam’s relationship, plus a Dwight to drive them wild. Even minor characters like Kevin or Todd Packer have their counterparts. Some American fans haven’t even seen the original, but if you have, who was your favorite character?
