Degrassi the Next Generation was a Canadian series that came out in 2001-2015. Set in Toronto and following middle schoolers this show dove into serious themes of puberty, drug abuse, dysfunctional families, body image issues, peer pressure, disabilities, and sex (just to name a few). The producers specifically chose young actors who could better resemble the show's target audience so as to make it more realistic. This installment of the series follows Manny, Emma, J.T. and other characters though their middle school and high school experiences at Degrassi.
It is a very real portrayal of the difficult pressures adolescents and teenagers face when growing through their most isolated period-- high school. The show treats some very serious and contentious issues teenagers face and treats them rather well, such as Ashley's suicide episode, Marco's coming out, and Jimmy's disability. Degrassi has amazing character development with personalities developing over the nine seasons, though this quiz will only go up to season six. The actors who star in it are especially dynamic as they mature and develop different outlooks on life and right and wrong throughout these experiences.

At the beginning of the series who does Emma decide to meet?
In the beginning of the series members of the previous Degrassi franchise get together to reminisce about their high school days. Emma is the daughter of one of these characters. She takes advantage of her mom's socialization to do something she knows her mother wouldn't approve of. Emma also consults her friends about her plans but they tell her it's a bad idea. She decides to follow through and take a chance anyway after some vague advice from her mom's friend Caitlin.
What is Emma's mom's nickname?
Emma's mom and her friends are alumni of Degrassi high school. Her and a few other characters feature in the show as they live in the same town and have kids going to their alma mater. In the split episode "Mother and Child Reunion," Emma, Manny, and J.T. learn that one of their teachers was friends with Emma's mom when he calls her by a familiar nickname. Manny and J.T. tease her about it for the remainder of the episode.
What was Craig escaping from his home environment?
The adolescents in this series are dealing with some very heavy themes involving destructive relationships and emotional trauma. Craig Manning lived with his dad and visited his mom a few times a year with his new stepfamily. However when his mom died he began becoming more emotionally attached to his second family. He entered Degrassi in the second season immediately sparking both Emma and Manny's interest. He asks them if they will be going to an upcoming ninth grade dance-- they decide to sneak in for him.
What is Ashley doing at the beginning of season 1?
Ashley is Toby's stepsister and goes to Degrassi with J.T., Manny, and Emma. They are just beginning to adjust to home life together, though Ashley finds Toby annoying and he finds her too perfect. She is an eighth grader and already popular at Degrassi while Toby's only friend is J.T. Toby makes their personal issues worse when he tries to sabotage her ambitious plans at Degrassi. Ashley has an integral sense of righteousness and doesn't let Toby block her from completing her goals.
Who is Paige?
Paige is introduced in the first season as the queen bee of Degrassi with her colored sunglasses and perfectly parted hair. J.T. and other boys seem instantly attracted to her. Her character later deepens when she undergoes a traumatic emotional incident herself. She is friends with Ashley and Terri and romantically interested in Spinner. However when Spinner proves to be more interested in Terri than her she tries to sabotage Terri's chances with him. Despite this they all remain friends.
What the setting of the pilot episode of this season?
In Mother and Child Reunion parts one and two the show is split between covering Emma, Manny, J.T. and their adolescent schemes and an older history of the starring adults. Everyone is gathered for an event and Emma gets to meet some of her mom, Spike's old friends. The adults catch up about their professional successes and emotional lives while the kids take advantage of this to pull off things their parents would not approve of. In the end both mother and daughter reconcile and promise to be more open.
Who does Craig live with in season 2?
In dealing with the death of his wife, Craig's dad begins to take out his grief and frustration on his son. At one point this abuse turns violent and Craig is forced to move out. Craig's dad is initially upset because he has been visiting and keeping in contact with his toddler half-sister, Angela. Craig's father is infuriated because this girl is the daughter of his late ex-wife and her new husband. Coincidentally Craig just started school at Degrassi and he moves in with an alumni.
Why did Ashley's dad break up with her mom?
When Ashley's dad comes back to Toronto to visit she takes him around Degrassi and introduces him to her teachers and friends. Ashley is still distraught over her parent's divorce and her mom's current live-in situation with her new partner has got her worried. Will her dad and mom never get back together? Ashley doesn't even understand the root of their divorce, apparently they did not fight a lot and still remain friends. When she finds out the real reason she confides in Terri.
Why does Manny change from "cute" to "hot"
We all remember this episode. After Craig ends his relationship with Manny, she is ready for a change. Manny is a freshman now and she doesn't want to be perceived as cute or adorable. Her aspiration is to be hot. She consults another older member of the cheer squad, Paige who responds that she needs to change her "image". Manny goes all out wearing a cropped track suit, some low rise jeans, and showing off her blue thong which eventually gets her in trouble with the school principal.
How does Jimmy react when Ashley wants to have sex with him?
Ashley is concerned because Jimmy and Paige are partnered to be the leading roles in the English department's production of Romeo and Juliet. Jimmy has been her faithful longtime boyfriend, but, well, it's Paige, and he has to kiss her! Days before Jimmy and Ashley's eight month anniversary a "sex lady" comes in to give a talk on the dangers of unprotected sex and teenage sex in general. However Ashley's other peers in the school have been telling her she should experiment.

Liberty was an overachieving, nice girl but her friend Emma becomes suspicious when the math teacher Mr. Armstrong was acting too familiar with her. Emma confided her worries of Mr.Armstrong molesting Liberty to Manny and Terri. Unfortunately Terri told Paige (who as well as being the popular girl was known as a loud mouth) and rumours about Liberty and Mr.Armstrong spread all over the school. The rumour that Liberty would be in any relationship with a teacher was entirely untrue because she was instead interested in J.T.
What embarrassing thing happens to Spinner at the beginning of season 2?
Spinner is initially introduced as the Degrassi bully but slowly becomes into the class clown. At the beginning of season one he asks Terri to the school dance where she shows up drunk. He has many other romantic interests in the Degrassi community because of his "lost boy" identity. Even after becoming friends with Jimmy, Toby, and the others he continues to pull pranks on fellow students. Spinner struggles with ADHD and later takes an interest in Paige beginning a romantic saga.
In season 5 what does Darcy invite Spinner to?
Darcy debuts in season four as a freshman and becomes friends with Emma and Manny. She has a dramatic flair but is also interested in cheerleading and helps Manny plot how to overthrow Paige as captain. While sitting next to Spinner in a class Darcy gets to know him better and invites him to one of her events. Her friends Emma, Liberty, and J.T. have distanced themselves a bit since she shot up the social ladder but they reunite in later episodes.

Marco makes his first appearance by winning a dance off against Spinner and Jimmy. He later shows his interests range beyond just physical activities when he becomes friends with the goth girl Ellie because she is reading one of his favorite books. He leaves Degrassi for a short while but then returns because he can't have closure while everyone thinks he's a violent maniac. Ashley becomes distraught after she finds out that Craig has been cheating on her with Manny. Later Ashley learns from Paige that Manny is carrying Craig's child. Ashley later enters a battle of the bands competition after both she and Manny dump Craig. Though she has amazing moves the cheer captain Darcy is not impressed with her moral character and cuts her from the team. However Mia begins a series of controversial circumstances because she brings in drama from a rival high school, Lakehurst.
Who does Marco first come out to?
Marco is universally liked and both Ellie and Hazel go for him in the first few episodes of the series. He chooses to get with Ellie because they share a certain taste in dark literature. He told her he was happy to be with someone cool and alternative like her. However when Ellie wants their relationship to advance physically Marco has to face the reality of his sexuality. He decides to take his own advice, that he has to tell someone the truth otherwise he'll go crazy.
What new talent does Jimmy take up after he is shot?
After Rick shot him Jimmy was supported in the hospital by his girlfriend Hazel, Craig, and Marco. Jimmy reveals he really wanted to see a Kid Elrick concert so the boys sneak him out to take him there. Jimmy is really upset his best mate Spinner didn't visit him when he was in the hospital. Spinner admits this is because he felt guilt towards Jimmy getting shot, and tells of his involvement in pranking Rick with the paint. Jimmy is upset and, understandably, says he can no longer be friends with Spinner.
Why did Craig reject Manny's kiss in season 2?
At the end of the first season Craig dances with Manny after having snuck her and Emma into the ninth grade ball. Later Emma and Manny are celebrating Craig's interest but Manny is upset he hasn't asked her out as yet. She decides to take the initiative, admit her feelings for him and ask her out. He playfully rejects her but then admits his feelings as well and she squeals in happiness. Craig later admits to Joey this will be his first date.
What is J.T's hidden talent in season 2?
J.T. goes out with dream girl Paige just once in season two but only because she is dared to do so. He later finds out and is a little angry but forgives her. In another class Liberty has set her eyes on him but he is entirely disinterested in her. She pursues him nonetheless and they become good friends after a series of fights. He gives her the product of his secret skill and she later helps him pass his finals.
Who is Marco's first real partner?
Though Marco was previously dating Ellie he was just trying to change or hide his sexual orientation. Though she promised to be his shield Ellie breaks up with him because she feels like she is being used. Once he is successfully out and accepted by his peers he is still afraid to confront his parents about his sexual orientation. He later meets someone at the beach who is older and more experienced in the trials of being a gay man.
What happens to Snake, Emma's stepfather?
Emma, Manny, and J.T. first meet Snake when they are dropping off boxes before the start of school. Later it is found out both Snake and Emma's mom, Spike are alumni of Degrassi and they begin dating.Spike becomes pregnant and the two adults marry and include Emma in the wedding. Emma is being mistaken for Snake's biological daughter at school. Everything is going smoothly in their new family life until something disastrous is found out about Snake and Emma has little time for anyone anymore.

Emma's character starts season one very insightful and passionate about environmental justice. However some of the emotional struggles she faces at home lead her to search more for who she is. In season four she is confronted with befriending violent Rick before he shot Jimmy and is bullied by her peers. She is pressured into getting with Jay, who happens to be sleeping with several girls at once. She also underwent serious issues at home with her mom and her stepdad.
Who does Paige get in trouble for dating?
Since the very beginning Paige is introduced as someone who can attain any boy at Degrassi as a sexual partner. She goes for Spinner at first but he is actually interested in another girl which infuriates her. She later gets with him for a few seasons but then decides she is too good for Degrassi boys. She becomes interested in someone forbidden and it ends up working out ok until Manny rats out Paige in front of everyone. He later meets with her again but only to say it couldn't work between them.

This girl totals Spinner's car because she is infuriated at her rapist's indifference. She was targeted by him early in high school at a party and has suffered a lot of emotional and mental trauma because of it. She tries to take him to court but due to the lack of physical evidence and witnesses the judge is forced to find him not guilty. This girl feels like the justice system has wronged her and her rapist has zero remorse for his crime.
Who was J.T's closest girlfriend?
This girl pursued J.T. since he was in one of her classes. Though he was obviously attracted to popular girls who flaunted their stuff her persistence got him interested in her. They later write a play together to take the school's attention away from the shooting and they get together. J.T. and her spend the summer together and everything is going smoothly until she hears J.T. bragging about their sex life. Later J.T's life starts to spiral but she remains there for them.
