1.4K Shares

Superheroes have been an integral part of popular culture for almost a century. The extreme superpowers and events that occur in comics allow us to extend our own selves in a way that is not possible in the real world. In the heroes we can see ourselves, completing heroic tasks, fighting evil, and saving the world time and time again.

Superheroes have seen an explosion in popularity that began at the turn of the millennia with the release of the first X-Men film. However, it wasn't until Sam Raimi's Spider-Man films released that the world saw just how much of a powerhouse superhero films could be. Since then, the stakes have gotten higher, special effects get better with each film, and each new iteration of a superhero franchise tries to bring something new and exciting to the table. This resounding success led to the creation of extended movie universes for comic companies like Marvel and DC.

But what is the most important thing for a superhero? Is it their powers that give them ability to go above the common man? Or the people they are sworn to protect that give them purpose and a reason to put their powers to use? Regardless of whether or not we can truly answer that question, one thing is certain: a superhero is nothing without their secret identity! Sure, some heroes ditch the mask and let the world know who they are at some point or another, but here we have a quiz to put your knowledge to the test on just who hides behind each superhero mask.

Question 18

What is the Comedian's real name?

Watchmen was one of the first graphic novels I ever read and it showed me how complex a comic could be. The fact that the book opened with the murder of a superhero and everything spiraled from there and the fact this was only the tip of the iceberg captured my curiosity so much that I read the entire book in one sitting. As controversial as the film was for its adaption of the book, I truly enjoyed Jeffery Dean Morgan's portrayal of the Comedian.

Who is Dr. Manhattan?

Dr. Manhattan is one of the most complex characters in the Watchmen comic thanks to his truly undefined range of powers. Whatever he thinks of, he can will in to creation, but he lacks any empathy or feeling. This lack of emotion seems to really dehumanize the character and distance himself from friends and family. Question 20

What is Nite Owl's name?

Since then, he has been a solid foundation and supporting character in the recent Avengers films.
