According to certain wrestling experts, no sports entertainment event is complete without at least one or two tag team matches. Indeed, wrestlers who compete with a partner provide an entirely different type of spectacle than those in the solo division, and it can easily feel like a night of wrestling is missing something if no tag teams appeared on the card. Pro wrestling is grueling, taxing, and physically exhausting, so giving the performers partners to presumably carry half the heavy lifting often allows for a more energetic, varied, exciting experience than a match with only two competitors.
For all those reasons and more, some fans view tag team wrestling as the pinnacle of sports entertainment. Because of that perception, throughout the history of the sport, plenty of iconic duos have been just as famous as any one wrestler became on his or her own. Strangely, though, not all great wrestling duos throughout history have managed to win the WWE Tag Team Championships, in part due to the fact solo wrestlers have more options available for them when it comes to title belts. Of course, true fans of the genre should have no problem separating mere fan favorites from those who actually held the gold. Did The Mega Powers Ever Win The Tag Team Championships?
It’s hard to imagine a more iconic duo in the WWE Universe than Hulk Hogan and “Macho Man” Randy Savage. The two biggest wrestling sensations of the 1980s teamed up as the decade was coming to a close, when Savage was a fighting WWE Champion who needed someone to watch his back. Because the Hulkster was also friendly with Miss Elizabeth, the pairing seemed all too natural. On the downside, the alluring woman soon came between the two friends and lead to a heated feud. Did they become Tag Team Champions before that could happen?
Have Edge and Christian Been Tag Team Champions in WWE?
For the benefit of those with flash photography, Edge and Christian often offered 7 to 10 second poses before their matches. Everyone else in the audience was then given an even greater treat through their incredible performances, usually capped off with a powerful Con Chair To. Originally billed as brothers in Gangrel’s gothic Brood, Edge and Christian were gradually revealed to simply be great likeminded friends over the years, yet this hardly did anything to diminish their bond. More than simply legends of WWE, the Dudleyz got their start in ECW, and have since achieved great success in TNA, NJPW, and plenty of other companies around the world. Did The Hollywood Blondes Ever Win The Tag Team Championships?
If there was ever a wrestler crazy enough to team up with “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, it would have had to be the “Loose Cannon” Brian Pillman. Technically speaking, they never teamed up in WWE as the Hollywood Blondes, dropping that nickname after Austin left WCW and shaved his head. However, Austin and Pillman did get to team up on WWE television a handful of times after the latter’s debut. Fueled entirely by sardines and licking the foreheads of whoever would allow them, Luke and Butch were the last two wrestlers anyone would ever peg for potential champions. Equally big, bad, and destructive, the Big Boss Man and Akeem had almost nothing in common aside from their size, and yet that’s all they really needed to dominate the WWE Universe. Were sheer size alone all it took to win matches, these two likely never would have lost, both mountains of men who packed a punch to back it up. The management of Slick standing in their corner also meant their aesthetic differences never really came into play. Does this mean they won a few Tag Team Championships?

When Vince McMahon and company fail to recognize the greatness of their superstars, it’s up to the wrestlers themselves to prove how talented they are. After years of stagnation, this seems to be the goal of Sheamus and Cesaro as they team up in The Bar, representing the peak of athleticism in the WWE Universe despite the fact they weren’t getting all that many title shots. Figuring two men who desperately deserve gold have even better chances of actually winning some together, Sheamus and Cesaro stopped fighting and became friends, and haven’t looked back. Have they finally won some gold?
Are MNM Former WWE Tag Team Champions?
Wearing ornate fur robes and accompanied by cameras wherever they went, Johnny Nitro and Joey Mercury looked more like movie stars than the average professional wrestlers. Luckily, these camera ready looks were backed up with incredible athleticism in the ring, with MNM always delivering flashy and exciting matches deserving of the attention their inflated egos demanded. It didn’t hurt that Melina was always nearby as well, giving the camera something to look at when they were too busy talking about themselves. In any event, did MNM win any Tag Team Championships?
Were LayCool Ever Tag Team Champions?
Women’s wrestling revolution be damned, sports entertainment still has a long way to go before the business can truly boast about any sort of equality. Female based tag teams have been so rare in pro wrestling that LayCool were the only duo destructive enough to even make this quiz, as any other pair obviously couldn’t have won the Tag Team Championships. If any females could, though, it would have been Layla El and Michelle McCool during their most destructive streak as mean girl type bullies, making their enemies feel bad as they pummeled them to the mat.
Have Harlem Heat Been Tag Team Champions in WWE?
Raising the roof wherever they went, Harlem Heat were perhaps the most successful and exciting tag team borne out of WCW. Booker T was always an electric and magnetic performer, and while his brother Stevie Ray didn’t quite have his same skill set, the man was nonetheless an intimidating and powerful presence backing up his family in the ring. Of course, like many things WCW, the Heat didn’t quite make it as a duo in WWE, with Stevie Ray not coming anywhere near the Booker Man’s future fame and success. Brian Blair, two incredibly solid technical wrestler who wore some goofy outfits back in the 1980s. Barking their way to the ring, the British Bulldogs could never be accused of lacking in bite. Davey Boy Smith and The Dynamite Kid were both extremely intimidating performers, bristling with muscles and possessing the quickness to hit enemies before they could anticipate what was coming. It also didn’t hurt that they had an actual adorable little bulldog named Matilda sitting in their corner and winning over dozens of young fans. Some college jocks have a reputation as hotheaded jerks who only have time to focus on their own bodies, and that may just be true when it comes to University of Michigan alumnus Scott and Rick Steiner. These two brothers were big, bad, and mean, with absolutely no concern for their opponent’s well beings as they ripped them to shreds for the delight of the audience. Eventually, tensions grew two strong for the brothers to stick together, but they were once the best pure tag team in wrestling. Did they earn that acclaim through the WWE Tag Team Championships?
Did Breezango Ever Win The Tag Team Championships?
Slowly coming into their own as comedy characters and bringing the fashion police to Twin Peaks style drama, Tyler Breeze and Fandango saved themselves from the chopping block by putting their heads together and joining the tag division. Breezango have proven to be much better as doubles than they ever were as singles, winning matches against established teams immediately after getting together, also making sure to look good while they did it. They’re still relatively new, though, so have Breezango won any Tag Team Championships yet?

One of the most versatile names in tag team wrestling, there have been many Midnight Expresses throughout the years. Originally, the Express were Dennis Condrey and Randy Rose, with Bobby Eaton taking Rose’s place soon thereafter. Next up, “Sweet” Stan Lane replaced Condrey, creating the best known version of the group. However, it was “Bodacious” Bart Gunn and “Bombastic” Bob Holly who kept the Midnight Express going in WWE during the Attitude Era. Were any versions of the iconic team Tag Team Champions?

By jumping the rails on WCW Monday Nitro to form the New World Order, Scott Hall was also forever labeling himself an Outsider. Oh, you didn’t know? Well, you can call just about anybody who watched wrestling during the Attitude Era, and they’ll tell you the “Road Dogg” Jesse James and the “Bad Ass” Billy Gunn were probably the most popular tag team of their day. With their sing song chanting and gleeful love of cartoonish destruction, the Outlaws earned huge cheers regardless of what they did, bringing smiles to fans faces worldwide as they tore it up inside the ring. Did they ever win the Tag Team Championships while making people laugh?

It’s that age old story: one member of the team kept saying YES! YES! YES! while the other emphatically shouted back NO! NO! NO! Warring tag teams have been a staple in wrestling for decades before Daniel Bryan and Kane’s angry feud turned into a beautiful friendship, yet they were nonetheless unique in being a rare duo formed out of company mandated couples counseling. It didn’t take long for Bret Hart to outgrow Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart and their Hart Foundation tag team, turning into a viable solo star by the early ‘90s. However, there was still the issue that Bret’s younger brother Owen was also in WWE, trying to stake his own claim as an excellent executor of sports entertainment. Able to take a beating and keep on ticking like no other, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Express are without a doubt the most resilient team in wrestling history. There have been many destructive tag teams on this quiz thus far, yet none are more deserving of the title Brothers of Destruction than the Devil’s Favorite Demon Kane and his equally evil brother, The Undertaker. In its short existence, NXT has already proven a breeding ground for incredible talent in both the solo and tag team division. When it comes to doubles actions, few teams show off everything great about the developmental system quite like Chad Gable and Jason Jordan. With incredible skills in the ring and just the right amount of enthusiasm on the microphone, American Alpha were incredibly popular before they even appeared on the main roster, but they split apart not long after finally getting called up. Did the have time to become Tag Team Champions before then?
