One of the most popular supernatural TV shows out there, The Vampire Diaries first aired all the way back in 2009. Eight seasons were released in total, with the final season culminating in 2017. The series was incredibly successful - unpredictably so - with fans tuning in from all four corners of the world.
As most people taking this quiz are probably well aware, The Vampire Diaries focused on a love triangle between a human girl named Elena and two vampire brothers, one named Stefan and the other named Damon.
Of course, to stave away boredom plenty of other characters were introduced as the show progressed. As such, we met not only other humans (some of them went on to live happily ever after whereas others met their end sooner rather than later) but also plenty of witches, werewolves, powerful Original Vampires, hybrids, and ghosts. The story line got more complicated too as each character tried his or her very best to achieve his or her goal. Still, the love triangle was always there.
The Vampire Diaries might have ended but that does not mean that we have moved on. We watch random clips from the show on YouTube, we tune into The Vampire Diaries spin-off shows and we read fan fiction. But is that enough to keep the memory of all that has happened on the show alive? Let's find out!
Name this character.
Let's start off easy. Every true fan of The Vampire Diaries should ace this question. This character was a major recurring character on the show. Indeed, we first met this character all the way back in "Family Ties', the fourth episode of season one. This character worked as the sheriff of Mystic Falls. She was also a member of the Founder's Council and greatly disliked vampires. She was the mother of one major character. When her daughter was turned into a vampire she wanted nothing to do with her. However, eventually she came around and learned to love her daughter for who she was. Unfortunately, this character passed away in season six of the series as a result of cancer.
Who met Elena first – Stefan or Damon?
This is a tough question. Nonetheless, those who made it to the end of this supernatural series should have no difficulty in answering it. So, who knows who met Elena first - Stefan or Damon? As most fans will probably have no difficulty in recalling, Elena met both Stefan and Damon early on in season one of the show. Stefan was smitten with her from the very beginning whereas it seemed like Damon only paid attention to her so as to get back at his brother. Of course, with time Damon's feelings became genuine and the two brothers became fierce competitors in the contest for Elena's love.

Over the years as many as eight seasons of The Vampire Diaries have been released. With vampires in town you can't expect things to function the way they once did. And indeed, soon enough one of the human characters was turned into a vampire. Being a vampire is nothing like being a human and the character found the transformation - and the new lifestyle - challenging to say the least.
Why did Alaric become a vampire hunter?
When we first met Alaric Saltzman in "History Repeating" (episode nine of season one of the show) most of us did not find him in any way unusual. As some might be able to recall, he was introduced to us as a new teacher at Mystic Falls High School. We did not find out why he relocated to Mystic Falls until he befriended Jenna and came face to face with Damon. It was then revealed that Alaric was actually a vampire hunter and knew quite a bit about these supernatural creatures. It was also revealed why he had become a vampire hunter.
Who is NOT an Original Vampire?
The Original Vampires, also known as The Originals, are a group of very powerful vampires. They are the first generation of vampires which means that no other vampire can compare to them in terms of age, strength and speed. Every vampire in The Vampire Diaries universe is linked to one of the Original Vampires. The main difference between an Original Vampire and a normal vampire is that an Original Vampire became a vampire through a spell whereas a normal vampire becomes a vampire through the ingestion of blood. In addition, Original Vampires can't be eliminated by anything or anyone but the White Oak Stake.

This character was a centuries old vampire who came to Mystic Falls in the hopes of freeing her mother from a spell-locked tomb. She may look all sweet and innocent but she was actually quite ruthless and manipulate and ended up turning a few humans into vampires. Nonetheless, she ended up falling in love with Elena's younger brother Jeremy. He too had feelings for her but their love story was not meant to be. Shortly after this character freed her mother she was staked along with her mother and other ancient vampires by Elena's biological father. Nonetheless, in later seasons of the show this character visited Jeremy in the form of a spirit.

The show would not be what it is without Stefan and Damon Salvatore. After all, they are the two male protagonists of the series and the two men that Elena falls in love with. Over time Stefan and Damon managed to adapt to their vampire lifestyles even though initially they found the transformation challenging. For a long time Klaus Mikaelson was the main antagonist of The Vampire Diaries. Later he went on to antagonize the characters in the show's spin-off, The Originals. Elijah was another powerful centuries old vampire. As mentioned previously, we were first introduced to him in season two of The Vampire Diaries. Initially we saw Elijah as an antagonist, and for good reason. He was after Elena purely because she was a doppelganger. With time however we came to see Elijah as a rather honorable man. Indeed, he was not unlike Stefan in that he also did not think that humans were useless and he valued human life, an unusual trait to have for a vampire. Indeed, Elijah could at times be a real gentleman. Pretty much everything he did was out of love and loyalty for his family. But who was he talking to when he said the above phrase?

Only a handful of vampires have mastered - or have even wanted to master - a bunny diet. And even those who have managed to contain their desires succumbed to them at one point or another. In fact, some have even gone so far as to become Rippers. A Ripper is a nickname given to vampires who are out of control. Why did Damon come to Mystic Falls?
Most of us fell for Stefan immediately. The same could not be said for his brother Damon however. When we first met Damon he was cold, manipulative and plain mean. The series might be titled The Vampire Diaries but that does not mean that all of the characters that make an appearance in it are vampires, of course. She is a witch, and a powerful one at that, even though when we first meet her she has no idea that she possesses supernatural powers. Remember Sybil? If you've watched The Vampire Diaries to the very end, you should. She was introduced to us in season seven of the series and became the main antagonist in season eight. She was a beautiful woman who possessed supernatural abilities. Indeed, she was an ally of the creator of Hell, Arcadius (although she became his ally against her will). Sybil was once an innocent girl who was banished from her home village purely because she possessed psychic abilities. She washed ashore a seemingly abandoned island where she met another girl with psychic powers named Seline. The two became adoptive sisters.
Who said “Humanity’s not all it’s cracked up to be”?
There's no denying that the characters on the show were a varied bunch. Some of them were humans, some of them were vampires and still others were witches. Let's not forget that the show also had vampire hunters and doppelgangers among other supernatural creatures such as werewolves and hybrids. Most humans loved being human and most vampires loved being vampires. There were exceptions of course. For example, Caroline, who was a human when we first met her, enjoyed her immortality immensely and had no desire in becoming a human ever again whereas Rebekah, a powerful centuries old vampire wanted nothing more than a normal human life. Who never possesses any supernatural powers?
Most of the characters whom we met on the show underwent great changes. Quite a few characters who were human at the start of the show ended up possessing supernatural abilities at the end of it (or at least for some time during it). For example, Tyler became not only a werewolf but also a hybrid whereas Jeremy became a vampire hunter. The protagonist of the series, Elena, was a human girl who was turned into a vampire. Later she took the cure to vampirism (with another vmapire). There was at least one character who never gained any supernatural powers however. Who was it?
Why did Katherine turn Caroline into a vampire?
Caroline made a great vampire. Indeed, becoming immortal was probably one of the best things that happened to Caroline, even though it might not have seemed like it at the time. Of course, Caroline never really wanted to be turned so the transition happened against her wishes. As fans should have no difficulty in recalling, it was the manipulative Katherine who turned Caroline into a vampire. But who can remember the reason behind Katherine's action? Of course, Katherine actually did Caroline a favor. As a human Caroline was neurotic and obsessive, and probably one of our least favorite characters on the show. As a vampire Caroline became much more mature, responsible and protective.
What can humans use to protect themselves from vampires?
Vampires are much more powerful than humans, there's no question about it. Not only do vampires possess incredible speed and strength (they can snap a human's neck in seconds for example), but they can also compel humans to act the way they want them to act. Humans on the other hand can do little to harm vampires. Most vampires heal in seconds and as such they can't be seriously hurt. The only way to take a vampire's life is to stake him or her through the heart, which is a challenging undertaking. Of course, there are other ways that you can protect yourself against vampires too. If you consider yourself a fan of the show you should know the answer to this question!
Who briefly dated Meredith Fell?
Meredith Fell was another one of those characters who had great potential. Unfortunately, she only ever appeared in 12 episodes of the series. She first appeared in season three of the show. She worked as a physician at Mystic Falls Hospital which was where she met a major character of the show. The two fell for each other almost immediately but their relationship was quite brief. Indeed, Meredith made her final appearance in season four of the show. We did not see her ever again although she was briefly mentioned in season six - it was revealed that she married a pediatrician and moved to Alaska.
What was the name of Bonnie’s ancestor?
Who thinks they can name this character? This character was a powerful witch and one of Bonnie's ancestors. She was alive during the 19th century. She was actually the handmaiden to Katherine Pierce. The two were quite close. Apparently they became good friends after Katherine saved her life (it was never explained how unfortunately). Nonetheless, later down the line Katherine betrayed her friend in an effort to save her own life by informing the Founder's Council that this character was a witch. As such, she was burned at the stake. Before she passed away however she made a pact with Damon - she would cast a protective spell over Katherine if he kept an eye on her family.
