We Bet You Won't Be Able To Pass This Pokemon Red And Blue Quiz!

Turn the console on, put the volume up high and don't mind your parents calling out to you for help bringing in the groceries. There are things far more important than food at stake here - it's time for a Pokemon quiz in all its original, sparsely pixelated glory.

Since your baseball cap is on backwards, we get the feeling that you know a lot about this parallel dimension we call the wonderful world of Pokemon. Maybe, like most other Pokemon trainers rummaging through the tall grass today, your journey started way back when Pokemon Red and Blue were released to the world, splat in the mid-90s. Perhaps you're among the real trainers out there dedicated enough to have followed the succession of Pokemon generations as they were released throughout the years, keeping track right up till the latest release - Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. Things are a great deal more specific and detailed in the world of Pokemon today, but we mustn't forget our humble beginnings.

Hopefully you've picked up this classic title in recent years, otherwise your memory might be blurry. However, if you're a Pokemon master at heart, then no amount of time can wipe away your memories of these precious games. Let's see how well you remember Pokemon Red and Blue.

Question 1

What's your hometown called?

Every journey has to start somewhere, and your epic Pokemon Red/Blue adventure begins in a small town that has now become known throughout the world. Of course, you'll go on to encounter all towns and areas in the Kanto region before you're through with the Elite Four, but let's not forget your humble beginnings. If your memory of these classic games is intact, then you should definitely remember the name of your hometown. This is an easy one to start with.

Question 2

Name the three starter Pokemon offered to you by Professor Oak

Ah look, it's ole Oak - the Pokemon prof. We all got acquainted with this ole salt back in the early Pokemon games, and of course in the anime. Without his sound counsel - and, let's face it, the starter Pokemon he gifts to help us start our journeys - we wouldn't have gotten very far in Kanto before having to pack things up and go back to mom's house. Speaking of starter Pokemon, name the three that the professor offers you.

Question 3

What else does Oak give you?

That Professor Oak - he's a generous man, that much is for sure. After all, that starter Pokemon wasn't the only thing he gives us to help start our quest. Indeed, Oak's second present is necessary for any true Pokemon trainer worth his or her salt. An amateur trainer might consider this to be just another item in their bag, but true trainers know the real importance of this gizmo. Do you have any idea what item we're referring to?

Question 4

What's the maximum number of Pokemon you can have on your team?

If only there were limitless slots on our Pokemon teams... then we'd all be able to battle forever. Alas, all nice things must come to an end, including Pokemon battles. A Pokemon cap is placed on each trainer's parties to this effect, and there's nothing you can do to modify that short of creating your own Pokemon game. The number of available slots on your Pokemon team is the same in-game as in the anime. Let's see if you remember.

Question 5

Who is the first Gym Leader?

Since Red and Blue are Pokemon games, you're bound to have to face a Gym Leader at one point or another. In the anime, the first Gym Leader you face ends up accompanying you through a great part of your journey, though the in-game story plays out differently. Maybe the in-game and anime Gym Leaders are one in the same - maybe not. Either way, take a good look at Onyx over there, and let's see if you can guess the Gym Leader's name.

Question 6

How many Pokemon do you need to catch in order to complete your Pokedex?

For decades, young trainers have been hustling day in and day out, trying to catch all those Pokemon so they can fill up their 'dexes. Of course, there are only so many Pokemon out there, and any trainer who catches a certain amount of species can have the joy of seeing their Pokedex filled. If you're a real trainer, then at the very least you should know how many Pokemon must be caught in order to complete the Red/Blue Pokedex.

Question 7

What are TMs?

Throughout Pokemon Red and Blue - and, of course, through the several generations of future Pokemon games - there are a variety of items, moves and power ups (in the form of evolutions and whatnot) for trainers to look forward to. Among these are TMs. These mysterious things are scattered throughout the Kanto region, and are there for you to pick up and use however you see fit. If you're a true Pokemon trainer at heart, you'll remember what TMs are.

Question 8

What about HMs?

You didn't think we'd let you off the hook that easy, did you? Maybe you have an inkling of memory about TMs, but what of HMs? Don't tell us that you forgot about HMs! If you did, there's probably a single bead of sweat forming over your forehead by now, but don't break down just yet. Remember that one of the greatest strengths of a real trainer is the ability to keep it together under pressure. So relax, and answer the question.

Question 9

Who's this Pokemon?

As Professor Oak is explaining in the still, this world is inhabited by Pokemon, one of them being the species pictured here. While you don't run into this type of Pokemon too often in the game, you certainly see its pre-evolved form scampering around in various areas throughout the region, starting early on in your adventure. It's the middle part of an evolutionary chain, and can get extremely powerful once it evolves. Are you trainer enough to name this Pokemon?

Question 10

What is the prize for defeating all the trainers on Nugget Bridge?

Defeat all the trainers on the bridge, and you'll receive a great prize for your efforts. It might seem like an obscure detail in the game, but any trainer who pays attention here should get this right.

Question 11

Who is the second Gym Leader?

If you plan to get past this challenge, it's important for you to bring your Water type counters with you, otherwise you'll have a real tough time of the ordeal.
