We Bet You Won't Be Able To Name All These MCU Actors!

Marvel’s leap into the cinematic universe led us to the discovery of all the great heroes and villains of the multiverse. From 2008’s Iron Man to 2018’s The Avengers: Infinity War, we are counting 10 years of continuous thrills and excitement brought about by Marvel films.

And it is also because of Marvel’s move to the big screen that the fandom for Marvel actors and actresses continues to grow. We actually have seen plenty of celebrities who have blossomed into famous Hollywood stars following their portrayals of Marvel characters.

Jeremy Renner, for one, couldn’t have marked his name on Hollywood’s A-listers if not for his role as Hawkeye in The Avengers. Though he was a pretty big star before the part, his career surged after being an MCU actor. Following his Hawkeye portrayal, Renner got huge acting opportunities in several other movies such as Mission Impossible and The Bourne Legacy. But Renner is just one of the many MCU stars we know today. But we bet you can’t name all those actors unless you’re a true Marvel movies fanatic. You know him as Star-Lord or Peter Jason Quill, a half-human, half-Celestial Being who’s now leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy. But in the real world, the actor was a former waiter at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company where he was discovered by director Rae Dawn Chong. You might remember him in NBC’s Parks and Recreation. But we can’t discount that his acting career got a major boost after joining the MCU as he landed roles in other blockbusters such as "Jurassic World" and "Passengers".

Chadwick Boseman

This actor is now popular as T’Challa from the film “Black Panther.” But did you know that he also has a starring role in 2017’s “Marshall” where he plays Thurgood Marshall himself? Despite his great performance as the first African-American Supreme Court Justice, his Black Panther portrayal was the one to get him a nomination for the Saturn Award for Best Actor. This came as no surprise and we expect to see him land more nominations and awards in the future.

We think there’s no better actor to play the part of King Odin of Asgard in the Marvel Universe. We last saw him in “Thor: Ragnarok” where his character completely disappeared into thin air as he bids his sons goodbye. This actor is famous for his varying roles in a number of Hollywood movies, namely “Meet Joe Black,” “Alexander,” “Beowulf,” “The Wolfman,” “Hitchcock,” and “Noah.” He won an Oscar for his role in “The Silence of the Lambs” in 1991.

Idris Elba

His name is Heimdall and he made a vow to protect the Nine Realms. He would do anything to keep his promise even if that means committing treason. We saw him disobey the orders of Odin when he allowed for Thor’s return to Midgard. He also helped Thor in defeating Malekith when the latter led a war against the Asgardians. Neal McDonough

You first saw him in “Captain America: The First Avenger” as a member of the Howling Commandos. They call him Sergeant Timothy "Dum Dum" Dugan. Dugan fought alongside Captain America during World War II and helped defeat Red Skull and Werner Reinhardt. As a soldier who was rescued from the HYDRA camp, he would do anything to keep the world safe.

Who is she?

In “Guardians of the Galaxy,” we know her as Gamora, the adoptive daughter of Thanos. But before joining Marvel, the actress had already played quite a few otherworldly beings quite similar to her MCU character. If you remember, we have seen her as Neytiri in “Avatar” and Uhura in “Star Trek.” Though she has not received a major award for playing Gamora, she has brought home a Best Actress trophy for her role in “Avatar.”

Jeff Bridges

He plays Obadiah Stane, the CEO of Stark Industries shortly after the death of Howard Stark, Tony’s father. In the movie, Stane’s envy and thirst for power caused him to contract the Ten Rings to assassinate Tony Stark. When his initial plan didn’t work out, he created the Iron Monger Armor to rival Iron Man. However, the armor Stane made ended up causing his own death. We can no longer see him in Marvel films but he has made quite a few movies following “Iron Man” namely “Seventh Son,” “The Giver,” and “Kingsman: The Golden Circle.”

This actor played a special role in the first “Captain America” film as Steve’s best friend. We almost thought Marvel creators actually killed his character in the movies but we were happy to see the actor reprise his role in the film’s sequel. In the movie, Captain America calls him Bucky but his full name is Sergeant James Buchanan Barnes. Before the actor accepted the role of Bucky, he was seen on TV shows such as “Gossip Girl,” “Kings,” and “Once Upon A Time.” We also saw him in “Black Swan,” “Gone,” and “Logan Lucky.”

We bet you can’t forget his Marvel character, Loki. An adoptive son of King Odin and brother of Thor, Loki grew up as an Asgardian prince and later became the God of Mischief. We often see him tricking his dad and brother to get what he wants. This actor plays the part so well that he won a Russian National Movie Award as Best Foreign Villain of the Year in “Thor: The Dark World”. He was also an Empire Awards 2011 winner for the Best Male Newcomer for his performance in “Thor.”

Though he was already quite a huge Hollywood star before joining Marvel, his portrayal of Tony Stark in “Iron Man” really cemented his spot. He has become one of the most famous and highest paid actors. In 2009, we saw him on the big screen as Sherlock Holmes, which won him a Golden Globes Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical. Since then, he was cast in numerous non-Marvel films, including “Due Date,” “Chef,” and “The Judge.”

This makes him unable to maintain his position as the highly-esteemed surgeon he once was. After countless procedures and attempts from specialists all over the world, he desperately goes out in search for an alternative way to heal his hands. This leads him to the Ancient One. With her he learns powerful skills in sorcery and altering dimensions and becomes the "Doctor Strange" we know and love.

In the first “Thor” film, we were introduced to him as Fandral, a member of the Warriors Three and a true friend of Thor. He helped free Asgard from Loki’s reign and joined his friends in fighting Malekith. But in “Thor: Ragnarok,” we were surprised to see him die at the hands of Hela. Apparently, the actor is leaving MCU because he is set to join DC’s Universe as Shazam. Before appearing on the big screen, this actor was popular for his role as Chuck Bartowski in his own TV series “Chuck.”

This young actor was first seen in “Captain America: Civil War” as Peter Parker a.k.a. Spider-Man. Rhodey is the only best friend of Tony Stark who led a mission to rescue Stark from the Ten Rings. He is also the man behind the War Machine armor, which he used in the Battle of Sokovia. Rhodes soon joined his best friend as one of The Avengers.

We’d love to see him reprise his role but unfortunately, he vanished after an encounter with Captain America and the Howling Commandos.

This famous actor was cast as Everett K. Ross who first appeared in “Captain America: Civil War.” However, his character was further explored in “Black Panther,” where he played a key role in helping T’Challa stop Erik Killmonger's plans. Fans of the MCU were delighted to see him play a Marvel character due to the possibility of doing a scene with his “Sherlock Holmes” TV show co-star who plays Doctor Strange. And since Black Panther is now joining The Avengers, it won't be a surprise if we see Ross and Doctor Strange come together in the future films.
