Since 2012, the CW Network, Warner Bros, and DC Comics have been doing on the small screen what Marvel and Disney had been doing on the big screen since 2008, creating grandiose shared universes with many of their characters. For the CW, it all began with Stephan Amell bringing the Green Arrow to life on Arrow.
Part Lost, part Batman Begins, all Green Arrow, the first season of the show established that while there would be Bruce Wayne on this show anytime soon, if ever, Green Arrow and his origin story would be the next best (and closest) thing. While the series had been dropping hints here and there at the much larger world producers and creators Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, and Andrew Kreisberg wanted to create wouldn’t truly start until the season 2 episode, “The Scientist;” which introduced the Flash to the fold.
Now dubbed “The Arrowverse,” after the introduction of The Flash and his show starting in 2014, the altruistic and hopeful Supergirl in 2015, and the wildly outlandish Legends Of Tomorrow in 2016, the universe created on these four shows has been wowing DC fans since the start. It’s too bad Zack Snyder and company aren’t following the Arrowverse’s unique blend of drama and swashbuckling action, the big-screen DC movies would be fairing more critically at the moment.

For the most part, most of the ongoings of early seasons of Arrow could exist in the real world. Then meta-humans came into the picture. Then when Damien Dahrk came to town, magic was yet another element from the comic books introduced. When Canary is killed by Speedy (who was under the control of the Dark Archer at the time), Arrow takes the blame for the crime and challenges the seemingly immortal ninja to a duel. He is left for dead but survives, a fete that made him worthy of becoming Al Sah-him, the Heir Of The Demon.

Originally, Iris and her father Joe, didn't realize they had another West in the family. When Dr. Alchemy got a hold of him, he was gifted with the powers of the Speed Force. Slowly but surely, he would become a speedster himself and become a vital member of Team Flash, even sacrificing himself to the Speed Force to help beat Savitar. Constantly searching for his rightful place as a speedster, recently, this Flash decided to join the time-hopping super group, The Legends Of Tomorrow.

As Ta-er al-Sahfer (Yellow Bird), she fights for the League Of Assassins. Born Sara Lance, she absconded with Oliver away on the Queen’s Gambit. She was originally presumed dead when the boat crashed on Lian Yu. Clearly not, as she helped Oliver escape another boat, the Amazo. Again thought to have died, this time she was rescued by the League and brought to their sanctuary in Nanda Parbat to train. Clearly, death doesn't suit Sara Lance all that much. When the particle accelerator blew up in Central City, it didn't only turn humans into metahumans, some animals got caught in the crossfire as well. A gorilla imbued with super intelligence and mind control? Yeah, that never bodes well for our heroes, who had to trick the big guy and stranding him on Earth-Two, where he tries to stage a coup. Thanks to the misadventures of the Legends, he wound up trying to do the same thing during the Vietnam war and is now helping Damien Dahrk.

Clearly trying to rob Thea Queen is the key to her heart. Since that's how she and Roy Harper started dating. After the Arrow saved his life, Roy started following him around in an effort to emulate the vigilante. He is taken captive and shot with an experimental drug that gave him superhuman healing and strength, but also an unstable rage. The Arrow was left with no choice but to train Roy, who adopted this codename, before taking the rap for Arrow and then going into hiding.

What's more annoying than working with the smartest guy in the room? Working with a guy who knows he's the smartest guy in the room. Originally the lead scientist at S.T.A.R. Labs, he helped Barry realize his early potential when he first became the Flash. Then it was revealed that he was actually Eobard Thawne in disguise. Even though he was dispatched by Team Flash, thanks to the multiverse we keep seeing various versions of himself from an over-caffeinated hack to a cybernetically enhanced post-apocalyptic version.

When Anna Loring was murdered during Slade Wilson’s rampage through Starling City, her fiancé vowed to never let someone be hurt again. So the genius engineer began to devote hit efforts to building a high-tech flight suits with all kinds of extra accoutrements. After an accident leaves the world thinking he died in an explosion (but really just shrunk himself), Ray would try to find a place for himself since Star City didn't seem to care that he died. So he joined the Legends instead and has been working to fix time ever since.

As a member of the Time Masters, this guy was tasked with protected time. Instead he absconded with the Waverider and put the Legends together in an attempt to stop Vandal Savage. Not because he would take over the world, but because the madman murdered his family. He then helped the rest of the Legends collect remnants of the Spear of Destiny and stop the Legion Of Doom. Not satisfied with how the Time Masters handle proceedings, he has since created the Time Bureau instead and has dedicated himself to stopping Mallus.

A speedster from the future, the Reverse-Flash is single-handedly responsible for Barry’s greatest tragedy (the murder of his mother and framing of his father for the crime), as well as some of the Flash’s early triumphs too, disguised as wheelchair bound Harrison Wells. After being defeated by Team Flash and a very distant relative, Eddie; who killed him self to eradicate Reverse-Flash from the timeline. Then time itself sought to wipe out the Reverse-Flash forever, which it would when the Legends unleashed the Black Flash on him.

If Star City has anyone to thank (or loathe, depending on your point of view) for teaching the Green Arrow how to fight, the man most responsible for his earliest training is this hulking assassin, who was on Lian Yu when Oliver crashed on the island. Together they try to leave the island. The assassin gains superhuman strength and insanity to match when he is exposed to mirakuru and he is stabbed in the eye by Oliver as he escapes the island. With just one eye and a seething hatred for Oliver, he too escaped the island to torment the Green Arrow and kill his mother.

Even though with his Vibing ability, Cisco probably could be in two places at once, Felicity needed someone else to be able to bounce ideas off of week in and week out. Hence the introduction of Curtis Holt to the Arrowverse. Originally debuting as an employee of Palmer Tech, Felicity quickly realized how technically gifted he was. He is a techno wizard and an Olympic medalist decathlete. He is responsible for the chip that allows Felicity to walk and for John to use his arm. After helping find the Legends, he becomes a valuable member of the team as someone who understands and knows history. He also forms a bromance with Ray Palmer based on their shared knowledge of pop culture. Even though their romance is doomed since she’ll have to return to her own time sooner or later, he's also knee-deep in love with fellow Legend, Amaya.

Caitlin Snow is another of S.T.A.R. Labs’ brilliant young minds who looks up to Harrison Wells and helps Barry learn the full scope of his powers. When he entered the Speed Force for the first time, he caught a glimpse of a possible dark side to Caitlin. But it is one that didn't manifest itself until Barry revives this timeline from Flashpoint. She slowly starts to experience manifestations of her power and since she already met her evil Earth-2 counterpart, is worried that she too will become a villainess. While she does assist Savitar for a time, she also remembers who she was and fights back against her more sinister urges. She now fights alongside Team Flash and her hero/villain persona is more like a Jekyll and Hyde dynamic.

Imagine his surprise when the son of one of those businessmen happened to be slightly miffed at Green Arrow. So he spent several years planning his revenge and for a while had Oliver beaten at every turn, and even had him convinced that his entire crusade was a lie and briefly hung up his bow.

Back on Krypton, the Kryptonians and nearby Daxamite race got along almost as good as snowballs could survive in hell. Imagine Kara’s surprise when one of the Daxamites crash landed on Earth. After initial hostility, she decides to take him under her wing and tries to teach him how to be more human. They fell in love in the process. He had to flee when a lead bomb was triggered to send the other invading Daxamites away from the planet. You wind up with one of the most powerful heroes in the whole Arrowverse. When the particular accelerator exploded, it somehow trapped Ronnie Raymond’s conscious inside of Professor Martin Stein. They would find a way to be separated and Ronnie became the hero’s physical body while Stein’s conscious was linked to Ronnie’s.
