Want To Sit With Us? Score 80% On This Mean Girls Quiz

Mean Girls is one of the most, if not the most, iconic movie of the early 2000's. As Gretchen Wieners would say, it's very fetch (and fetch is definitely a thing!). It stars Lindsay Lohan in her prime and is very relatable to everyone who went to middle school and high school in that era. No matter how many times we watch it--and we watch it a lot because it seems like at least two cable channels air nothing except this movie on a loop, and because high school guidance counsellors loved using clips to show what bullying looks like--it still holds up as very funny and very relatable. We've watched it enough times that we almost have the entire movie memorized from start to finish.

Even though pretty much everyone thinks they know this movie front to back, does anyone really know it that well? At a certain point, it's hard to remember all the details in the background of the movie because everything is so familiar to us. There are a lot of hidden Easter eggs and trivia sprinkled through the movie that not many people may have noticed before. Watch the movie again or try this quiz from memory and see what it really takes to be a Mean Girls expert!

Question 1

What real life school is North Shore High based off of?

While North Shore High and the events that transpired there in the movie may have been fictional, the inspiration of this movie did come from a real-life school. Up in the northern suburbs of Chicago, there definitely are a few schools that have (or at least had 10 years ago) a bullying problem. Even though there is such a huge problem with mean girls and bullying at the school, this school is still ranked as one of the best public high schools in the country because of course it is.

Question 2

How is Lindsay Lohan's character's first name spelled?

Coming in to a new school is hard for anyone, but it's even worse when nobody can pronounce your name right! Just think about how hard it is to try and fit into a new environment and think about how much harder it is to always be correcting people about what your name is supposed to sound like. For Lindsay Lohan's character, it's a bit ridiculous because it's really not that weird of a name! Then again, it seems as though teachers will sometimes mispronounce even the most basic of names.

Question 3

What did Gretchen's father invent?

It's very clear early on in the movie that Gretchen Wieners comes from a very important family. Her father was an inventor of something that was pretty popular in the early 2000's, though it hasn't been too popular as of late. Every time something goes wrong, Gretchen always brings up her father, an important man, and will also always remind everyone around her what he is known for inventing. There isn't anyone in the town that doesn't know what the Wieners family is known for.

Question 4

What African country did Cady's family move from?

Moving from one place to another as a teenager is hard enough, but just imagine what Cady must have felt having to move to the Chicago suburbs after living in Africa her whole life. It's almost a completely different world! She had been homeschooled her whole life as well, which makes going to a regular high school just that much harder. Cady talks about her upbringing and her life in Africa, but where exactly in Africa did she and her family live? Africa is a giant continent after all.

Question 5

On what day did Aaron Samuels ask Cady for the date?

The day in question was a momentous one for Cady and Aaron's relationship. Up to this point, Aaron hadn't really spoken to her all that much, mostly because there really is no reason to talk to anyone in math class. It's a pretty boring subject for most people, and there isn't a whole lot of class discussion or group work or anything. That's why this day is so important because he actually turned around and asked Cady what the date was--a day that will forever be remembered.

Question 6

Which is not a Plastics rule?

To be one of the popular girls, there are a lot of rules that one must follow. It's not good enough to just be the prettiest or the coolest--even at the top of the social hierarchy there are still rules that must be followed by everyone. Well, at least everyone except for Regina George, the Queen Bee herself. It's hard to be popular, especially when that status can be taken away in the blink of an eye just because of a simple fashion mistake.

Question 7

How many candy canes did Glen Coco receive?

Candy cane-grams are a very important part of student life down at North Shore High. Even though candy canes don't taste very good and cost like fifty cents at most, they are also used as evidence of how well a friendship is going. Things were not going particularly well for Gretchen Wieners, as she had not received a candy cane from Regina, but Cady did get one. All of them pale in comparison to Glen Coco, though, who is probably the coolest kid in the whole school, even though we barely see his face.

Question 8

Which actress had to wear a wig?

As they say in the movie, "Her hair is big because it's full of secrets." One of the biggest secrets of all is that one of the actresses in this movie had to wear a wig as part of their costume. Her natural hair just wasn't good enough to be a Plastic, so the costume designers had to give her a bit of a volume boost by giving her a whole new head of hair. Even though we know that one of them is wearing a wig, we can't tell.

Question 9

Where did Regina George allegedly do car commercials?

There are so many ways to describe Regina George. She's flawless. Her hair is insured for $10,000. She once met John Stamos on a plane and he said she was pretty. Regina even punched a girl in the face once and that girl said it was awesome. It's hard to believe, but then again Regina George really is something else. Rumor has it that she even does car commercials, but of course not for American cars because that wouldn't be very interesting--and a lot harder to verify.

Question 10

What does Karen dress up as for Halloween?

As Cady finds out, Halloween in American high schools isn't for wearing the scariest costume like she might have thought. It's more like the one time a year when girls can wear whatever they want without anyone being able to judge them for it. To be honest, the less effort (and the least amount of fabric possible) is best. That definitely surprised Cady, who went full-on Bride of Frankenstein while her other friends just dressed up in underwear and minimal accessories.

Question 11

What was the answer for the tiebreaker question at the mathletes competition?

Cady may have been interested in the mathletes when she first arrived at school, but quickly learned that it's the worst thing she could do socially. Unfortunately, to become part of the Plastics and to woo her boy Aaron she felt like she had to fail math to try and seem cool. For some extra credit, Ms. Norbury makes her join the math team for the regional competition. The two schools are tied and it's all on Cady to win North Shore High the glory of mathlete champions.

Question 12

What song does Damian sing at the talent show?

Damian is pretty much the best character in the whole movie, but sometimes his peers didn't give him the love that he rightfully deserved. In the Christmas talent show he put on a great performance of this pop hit, but got wrongfully booed by the crowd. Even though the students of North Shore may not have appreciated him fully, the rest of us absolutely did. Sure, he may not have won the talent show, but he had definitely won our hearts.

Question 13

Who made out with a hot dog just that one time?

The Burn Book is out for the whole school to see and there is some pretty horrible stuff written in it. Some is true, some is fake, and some is just plain mean. The thing about Coach Carr hooking up with Trang Pak was true but are all of these allegations right? The book also mentioned a person who made out with a hot dog, which is pretty embarrassing. They did confirm that it happened, though they say it was just one time.

Question 14

What's the spelling bee word that was spelled out by the homeschooled girl?

Up until the events of the movie started, Cady had been homeschooled her whole life. Even though she hasn't been to a real high school before, she knows what a lot of regular school kids think about homeschooled ones. They're either super smart and completely antisocial or are kept at home for religious reasons. That's not really the case for Cady, since she just has parents who do a lot of research abroad. She may be pretty good at math, but she's not quite as nerdy as a spelling bee champion.

Question 15

What happened to Ms. Norbury over the summer?

Like all of our teachers in the past, we just assumed that they lived in the boiler room of the school and didn't have any lives outside of it. That can't be further from the truth--most teachers are just young adults who are tired, overworked, and have an alcohol problem on the weekends. Ms. Norbury is no exception to the rule that teachers are human beings, albeit very flawed human beings. Her summer break was eventful, but we wouldn't say it was particularly good or anything.

Question 16

How many teachers felt personally victimized by Regina George?

When Principal Duvall asked the entire junior class who felt personally victimized by Regina George, every single girl raised their hand. That's both surprising and not surprising considering the kind of menace that Regina George is. More surprising than that, though, is seeing that a good amount of teachers also raised their hands. Even though they're the authority figures at the school, the power and evil of Regina George cannot be underestimated--even the principal himself raised his hand, and he's a tough cookie.

Question 17

What language are the Kalteen bar wrappers written in?

In one of the many steps to get revenge on Regina George, Cady and company try to get Regina to unknowingly gain a bunch of weight, since she's expressed that she wants to lose three pounds. There are these Kalteen bars that Cady's parents had brought over from Africa, which are super high in calories and are a good source of nutrients when there isn't a whole lot of food available at once. Of course, since they're from Africa and the wrappers aren't written in English, Regina has no idea that she's basically eating weight-gain bars.

Question 18

What is the name of Kevin G's hip hop group?

Kenny G is one of the most underrated characters of the whole movie--he's smart, funny, and knows how to rap as well as a teen from the suburbs in the early 2000's can rap. It's not his fault that he's a bit embarrassing at times since it's pretty much a guarantee that you're going to do something embarrassing if you're a teenager in 2004. This includes forming a band to perform at the school's talent show. Nobody really looks back on their old high school musical groups with pride, after all.

Question 19

How many times does Gretchen say "fetch"?

Is fetch ever going to happen? Even though Gretchen Wieners wants fetch to totally be a thing, Regina is not having it. It's supposedly slang from England, but it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. While the characters in the movie aren't really letting on to the trend of saying fetch, this movie has caused most of us in the real world to start saying fetch when describing cool things. In a way, Regina made fetch happen when she said that fetch was never going to happen.

Question 20

What is Regina's little sister's name?

We got a glimpse into the George household, and man is that place weird. Regina's mom is trying so hard to be a "cool mom" instead of a regular mom that she kind of forgets what it actually means to be a mom at all. Just look at all kinds of tomfoolery that Regina's been able to get away with for years. Even worse than Regina, though, is probably her sister who is quite young and impressionable, but doing a lot of weird things that she's seeing on TV. We just hope she turns out okay.

Question 21

Who wrote the script for 'Mean Girls'?

There's no doubt about it: 'Mean Girls' is one of the most iconic movies to have made it through the early 2000's. From its funny storyline, memorable characters, and unforgettable quotes, this movie has stayed relevant for over a decade. It came out in 2004 and people are still writing articles and quizzes about it like it just came out in theaters this summer. So who was the genius behind the screenplay of this great film? They're still funny today, but this may still hold up as their best work.

Question 22

Why was Regina in a back brace?

The Spring Fling was coming up and Regina was all about it. Unfortunately, things weren't really going her way when she wasn't able to fit into the dress that she wanted, thanks to those weight gain bars, and it just got worse from there. They say that karma isn't very friendly and it was about time that Regina got her dose of it. Because of the events that had transpired, she was away from the public eye for a while, and also had to wear a back brace to the dance.

Question 23

What college does Aaron Samuels attend the next year?

Seeing as how bad Aaron was at math, it's kind of a surprise that Aaron made it out of high school okay and got into college right away. Then again, he had Cady to help him out with his homework and he's also a football player so they get it easier. Now that all the drama of junior year is over, it won't be so bad for Cady going through senior year without her boo alongside her. Then again, he caused enough trouble the past year that it might be a good thing to only see him on weekends.

Question 24

What year did the back building burn down?

On Cady's first day of school, she has trouble figuring out where to go for health class. Janis tells her the room G14 is in the "back building" but when she takes Cady there, it's actually just a plot of grass and she realizes that Janis is getting her to skip class. There used to be a back building at some point in that location but it burned down years ago, so technically Janis never really lied. Skipping class seems scandalous, but it's better than what Coach Carr had to say about reproduction.

Question 25

What art piece did Janis win a prize for?

Cady had said that she would definitely attend her friend, Janis's, art show but then canceled on her because the Plastics wanted to have a get-together with her instead. She had lied to Janis, saying that her parents were making her go to this thing, but actually there was a rager going on at the house instead. Since the whole school knew about this party, there was no way that Janis wasn't going to hear about it. In a fit of anger, Janis threw the painting that she made at Cady.

Question 26

What is the significance of the vase found under the sink?

After this unbelievable party that Cady wasn't intending on having, she has to try and pretend like everything is normal between her and her parents since they have no clue about the whole event. Her mom gets a little suspicious when she finds a very important vase stuffed underneath the sink. This vase has a ton of value to her parents, and it used to mean something to Cady as well, but as a teenager she's not allowed to care about stuff her parents like anymore, obviously.

Question 27

Who got punched in the face by Regina George?

There isn't anyone at school who doesn't have a story about Regina George, may it be a wild rumor or someone being personally victimized by her. While describing who Regina George is, there was one girl who recalled the time that Regina punched her in the face. We see her many times, but what is her name exactly? Of course, it's not really important to any of the Plastics to know the name of a girl that Regina punched in the face once, but she deserves a little bit of credit.

Question 28

Who got diarrhea at Barnes and Noble?

It's time for all of the girls in the junior class to apologize to everyone for all the mean gossip they've spread about each other. It's a pretty heartwarming scene, seeing the friendships of people we've never seen before get mended before our eyes. It's time for one of the Plastics to come up on the stage, and while she's apologizing to her friends, she also is giving out a lot of personal information to everyone in the room about stuff that's pretty embarrassing.

Question 29

What is Cady's dad's name?

The movie may center around Cady's life, but out of the whole Herron family, we only ever learn what her name is. It makes sense, since the only time we see the parents are when they're talking to their daughter, and daughters usually don't call their parents by their first names. That would be a little strange, after all. But, like all good screenwriters, the writers gave these nameless characters names in the credits because that's what good character development is.

Question 30

What does Regina George do now to blow off steam?

After everything that went down junior year, it was time for Regina George to reinvent herself from Queen Bee to a real person that's enjoyable to be around. It's very apparent that she's got a lot of anger inside that she's got to harness into something positive, not destructive. There are a ton of things that one can do to turn negative energy into something positive, and it's really good to see Regina involved in something that she enjoys while also getting to blow off some steam. Good for you, Regina.
