Orange Is the New Black is an amazing TV series that focuses on life in a female prison. But did you know that the TV series, which currently spans 5 seasons, was based on a memoir called Orange is the New Black: My Year in a Woman’s Prison written by Piper Kerman?

The show premiered on Netflix in 2013 and went on to become Netflix’s most-watched original series! Indeed, it is an incredibly popular show that has a wide audience worldwide thanks to its engaging plot and its superb characters. Thus, as a you can probably imagine, the show has since received countless awards and nominations.

So, are you a fan of Orange Is the New Black? Have you seen all the five seasons of the show? Or have you just started watching it? Whenever she gets upset and frustrated, she begins hitting her head, calling herself “stupid.” Indeed, it is implied that she may suffer from a serious mental illness.

A former drug addict, she manages to stay clean at Litchfield for three years with the help of another inmate named Red whom she considers a mother-figure. This particular character was portrayed as sensible and good-humored who greatly disliked violence and confrontation. To our disappointment, this character was accidentally killed in season 4 of the show. She ran away from home due to her problematic situation and lived on the streets with her friend. She committed robberies as a way to stay alive but wrote down everything she stole and the amount of money she owed, supposedly intending to reimburse those she stole from sometime in the future. This character died in season 1 of the show as a result of drug overdose.

He then went on to form a band with his friends but that too did not work out as he wished – his girlfriend fell pregnant and he decided to stay with her, getting a job at Litchfield to provide for the family.

We later learned in season 3 that this character was indeed killed and thus gone off the show for good.

Before she was sentenced to prison she was engaged in numerous scams. For example, when she worked as a waitress she would fill a vodka bottle with water and then “accidentally” drop it knowing that the men attending the club would pay for it. She later got involved in a more serious scam that did not quite work out and which resulted in her stealing a car. We can presume that this is what landed her in prison.

This character certainly stands out from the other characters in her appearance so even though she only appeared in two seasons on the show – season 2 and season 4 – we are sure that you’ll get it right. She is certainly a violent old woman who has no qualms about killing anyone who stands in her way as can be seen when she decides to kill another inmate. However, she accidentally stabs a different inmate and is sent to Security Housing Unit and then later to Maximum Security.

She was a corrections officer at Litchfield and was probably one of the most emphatic and compassionate officers. Because she is soft-hearted this character is liked but not very well respected among the prisoners. She is fired in season 2.

This character is one of the main protagonists and inmates best friend with whom she had ran a soap making business called PoPi. She pretty much accidentally sleeps with her best friend’s fiancé and the two end up dating. The two eventually go to Litchfield to get the protagonist’s blessing. While this character initially appears as kind and considerate later we learn that she can be quite selfish when it comes down to it. After all, she thought nothing of having an affair and a relationship with her imprisoned best friend’s fiancé.
