It has been around 4 years since one of our favorite British science-fiction/comedy-drama series has come to an end, but Misfits will always hold a special place in our hearts. It proved to be a success with its 5-series run; always telling the best jokes (brandishing awesome Brit humor), providing adequate doses of blood and gore (remember that ‘mid-air death’ that was just spectacular? Even The Guardian said so!), and of course, the much-needed drama, comedy, and wonderful supernatural powers! We can’t believe it has been 4 years - because Misfits sure is still fresh in our minds.
A lot of the characters also proved to be absolutely magnetic. Remember Joe Gilgun’s versatile Rudy Wade? He definitely stole the show (if you really miss him, go and watch him in AMC’s series Preacher)! Or remember when Iwan Rheon was playing the shy but calculating Simon Bellamy before he was Game of Thrones’ sickening Ramsay Bolton? Well, just like Simon, let us go for a blast from the past and test just how much you remember from Misfits! If you really loved the show, you will not have a problem acing this quiz! What are you waiting for? Take the test to find out!
Through what phenomenon did the group of misfits gain their powers?
Ah, yes, the freak accident that started it all! We would not have our gang of misfits parading around causing (or preventing) trouble without the strange phenomenon that struck them while they were all together. Though it could have (or should have) killed them, it didn’t - instead, it gave them amazing superpowers! It happened in the very first episode of the season when the gang of different people with different backgrounds are doing community service; they soon find out that they’re not the only ones with powers!
What did Curtis Donovan do time for?
One of the longest serving members of the Misfits gang, he was known to be a rising star in the athletic world; he had a goal to become an Olympian, but this dream was put on hold when he was found to have been possessing something illegal - hence his time in community service. He then gained powers along with his gang while serving community service time. He is portrayed as selfless and kind, with his last act being sacrificing himself for the others so an infection would not spread any further.
What was Rudy’s superpower?
Rudy Wade is known as brash, crass, promiscuous, and...surprisingly sensitive. Played by the brilliant Joe Gilgun, Rudy enters the picture when Nathan ends his run in the series. His emotional outburst leads to him getting landed in community service; along with Simon, Alisha, Curtis, and Kelly, he served as the last puzzle piece of the new ‘ASBO Five.’ He also gained superpowers, like the rest of the gang, due to the freak accident that happened. What was Rudy’s superpower?
What was Simon’s superpower (series 1 and 2)?
Simon really underwent a lot of changes throughout his stay in the series. Before being assigned to do community service, he actually was admitted to a psychiatric ward, where he met fellow patient Lucy (who was slightly obsessed with him). But, of course, this all started when he committed arson by burning Matt’s house because Matt bullied him. He then gained powers (and then some) when he was hit by the same phenomenon with the gang. Could his first superpower have been related to fire too?
What was the first name of Sally’s fiance?
Sally was the new probation worker around series 1 after the gang, specifically Kelly, accidentally kill Mr. Morecombe, her fiance. Unwilling to accept that her fiance just up and left her suddenly (like when she discovered plane tickets being purchased via his credit cards), she investigates his disappearance further by getting close to the gang of misfits, specifically with Simon. She extracts information from him by seducing him, starting with an online chat under the name ‘shygirl18’. What was Mr. Morecombe’s first name anyway?
What was Kelly’s superpower (series 1 and 2)?
Kelly Bailey is described as a hard as nails with a soft side with bad taste in faux designer clothes, and she does not get along well with the others at first, as they often get into arguments. But before she enters the community service for assaulting Jodi, she actually already encounters Curtis and Simon as she and her boyfriend go out clubbing. After she gets hit by the strange phenomenon, she finds out she has superpowers too. She was the one who ends up killing the probation worker after he goes on a murderous rampage.
What was Nathan’s superpower (seasons 1 and 2)?
Nathan Young was known as the sarcastic clown of the group, with an ‘irritating, flippant attitude towards life and others.’ Because of his attitude and his biting humor, he proved not to be such a sunny spot for his fellow probies, especially Simon, whom he liked to pick on. Funnily enough, he is the one who also seemed not to have any apparent powers after the accident as he spent the entire season 1 trying to figure it out. His powers appear with a bang as the first series came to a close.
What was the name of the cult that ‘adopted ultra-conservative behavior’?
The cult all started when Rachel Leyton discovered her powers and ability to brainwash other people; hence, the establishment of the organization that would follow only her and her beliefs. Her aim was to ‘encourage self-respect, responsible behavior, respect for the law’. Though we wouldn’t call her means ‘respectable’ or ‘lawful’! Anyway, the organization’s members all wear plain cardigans and do things like ‘testifying’ about their old life and setting fire to vibrators. What was the name of this extremely conservative cult?
What was the name of the baby who had Nathan acting as his father?
Who knew even a nine month old baby can have super powers and can manipulate another human being? Not so different from Rachel’s ability to manipulate others (she used the power of brainwashing), this baby can cause others to act like a father to him! This is most likely because he is brought up by a single mother and he didn’t know his real father. He manipulates Nathan to act like his father, but then the baby also rejects him later on when Nathan shows that he wouldn't make a good father.
Who replaces Sally in season 2?
After Sally dies, AKA gets killed by Simon in season 1, naturally she has to be replaced by another probation worker, lest our gang of misfits find themselves in more troubling circumstances, am I right? So anyway, Simon accidentally bashes Sally’s head in, then hides her body in a freezer for a long time before his friends find out, so now Sally’s spot has to be filled in. Perhaps the gang can rejoice, because as opposed to Sally’s no-nonsense attitude, this guy is more relaxed and even sarcastic.
Who was the crime boss in season 2, episode 4?
This show would not be complete without its Nazis or it's extremely right-wing cult or even its crime bosses! As highlighted in the fourth episode of the second season (‘Video Game Violence’), the gang undergo a strange episode (pun intended) where they encounter Tim, who believes he is in a videogame, and the crime boss/main antagonist owes him a lot of money. The gang try to ‘play’ the plot of the game in the hopes that if they finish the story, Tim will leave them alone.
Who does Vince make Nathan fall in love with?
Vince was the owner of Vince’s Tattoos, a tattoo parlor the gang visit after Kelly needs some re-inking. It turns out Vince is not only a tattoo artist - he was a ‘super’ tattoo artist! Get my drift? Anyway, it looks like Vince has superpowers too: he can make people feel things or make things happen to them with the use of his tattoos, AKA empathic tattooing. And because Nathan was being an asshole to him about his tattoos, he exacts revenge on Nathan by making him fall in love with another person from the gang!
What was Curtis’ power in season 3?
So there’s this guy called Seth who deals in superpowers; meaning, his power was literally to take away and grant superpowers to others. This is probably because he also had some business in ‘drug dealing’ before the freak accident happened - his dream was to become ‘the ultimate dealer’ after all. Hence, our ASBO Five’s changing abilities later on! If Curtis previously had the power of time reversal before, well, not anymore in season 3! What power was he granted during the third season?
What was the name of the coma patient in season 3, episode 5?
Hey, just because you are a coma patient does not mean you can’t have powers too! That’s the exact thing that happened to this girl who was in a coma and switched bodies with Kelly for a certain period of time - all thanks to her body swapping abilities. She gains control of Kelly when they touch each other, and goes to visit her boyfriend Dom. Things take a turn for the worse when the girl threatens to pull Kelly’s life support and the boyfriend Dom leaves her. She even manages to kill the probie worker!
What monsters do they deal with in season 3, episode 7?
Have we told you that this show is not just about sex, drugs, and superpowers (as the advertisement goes)? It also involves a lot of strange situations, like a guy who thinks he’s in a video game, or a girl who creates digital projections of people or something to that effect. Oh, and there’s Nazis and killer rabbits too! What a sci-fi show indeed, eh? So in this episode the gang battle a bunch of rabid cheerleader monsters, which all started because of a new superpower Seth picked up.
Who was Superhoodie?
Part of the story arc of Misfits included a mysterious individual only known to them as Superhoodie. Superhoodie first appears wearing a bright orange hoodie, with a mask on, and some black armor underneath. He saves Nathan and helps him escape the conservative cult of teenagers. He reappears again, now donning all black and studying information about the misfits, giving Kelly clues to go to a certain place to discover Nathan’s body and then also saves Curtis at the end of the episode.
Who was the new probation worker in season 4?
Characterized as a ‘borderline psychopath’, Mr. Adley is shown to have a ‘twisted’ sense of humor coupled with a tortured past. Not unlike the first probation worker our ASBO Five chanced upon, he has shown to be quite short-tempered and a bit intimidating too. And this is a man without any apparent superpowers! However, he has also shown to be somewhat a marshmallow at times, like when he showed his interest in playing piano and his fondness for karaoke music. Can you remember his first name?
What was Finn’s biological mother’s nickname?
Finn has had a tumultuous ‘early life’ before his time at the community center. For one, he had a girlfriend named Sadie, the only girl he’d been with at the time, who controlled him with her mind control powers to be the ‘perfect’ boyfriend. Then, he learns that his stepmother has the hots for him, which angered Jess, and then he discovers that his real mother’s nickname was not a very pleasing nickname at all. What was she called anyway?
What was the killer rabbit holding in ‘The Rabbit in the Basement?’
The gang are in a bit (ok, a whole lot) of trouble in the fourth season’s sixth episode. Other than just a wild house party, they also have to deal with a very menacing killer white rabbit. This six-foot tall, animal was the hallucination of Richard Saunders, their drug-fuelled host for the night. It’s because of his act of dropping acid while flipping through tv channels that his mutant hallucination comes to life! What does the killer rabbit use as its weapon?
Which seasons did Iwan Rheon star as part of the main cast?
Before Iwan Rheon made his way into the definite mainstream that was forged by popular drama Game of Thrones, he was more commonly known as Simon Bellamy, the nerdy, awkward probie from the sci-fi comedy/drama show Misfits. Though of course, Iwan couldn’t stay long in the show (a lot of other characters/actors left at some point too); possibly because of his GOT commitment, or some other reason, really. Either way, he only starred in a handful of series’ in Misfits.
Who did Rudy fall in love with?
Nope, you are not hallucinating like Richard Saunders - you read it right - the promiscuous and brash Rudy has fallen in love! He actually met this girl during the wild house party hosted by Richard, where he seems to have fallen ‘head over heels’ for this ‘enigmatic’ girl. We find out later on that she is a nun and the other nuns in the convent try to keep her there - but not for the reasons that Rudy thinks. It turns out she has a power to trigger the coming of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Yikes!
What was the organ transplanted to Alex in season 5?
Enigmatic Alex was first introduced in season 4 as a guy Curtis worked with at the bar, rumored to be a homosexual as he appears to resist the girls’ sexual advances (which is all too bad for Jess as she develops a crush on him). Of course, it is revealed he isn’t in fact a homosexual but his penis does get swapped with a vagina after a transgender person steels it from him. But don’t worry, that’s not the ‘organ transplant’ we were talking about here.
Through what hobby does the old woman tell the future in ‘Possession?’
Who knew that having a hobby can actually help you tell the future? That’s the case of Maggie, the old woman Rudy comes across during a support group meeting (The Power Support Group), for people whose ‘powers interfere with their daily lives.’ She presents Rudy with a sweater, something he heavily obsesses about, which tells of the future as per the picture depicted on the front of the sweater. In fact, she presents them with a lot of those jumpers, which predict pretty accurate events of the future.
Through what item does Abbey find Laura?
When we first meet Abbey, we believe she has lost her memories due to the freak accident that all happened to them brought on by the supernatural phenomenon. What a suckish way to have ‘powers’ right? Wrong! Well, partly wrong, anyway, because we learn that Abbey is not real but is in fact a creation of Laura, whom she feels deeply connected to, and whom she finds with the help of sniffing a particular item of clothing. How did she get to meet Laura?
What was the name of the bogeyman in ‘Phantasmagoria?’
It turns out Laura does not only churn out her imaginary friends, she can also create her childhood bogeyman! Because of the weird, freaky thing that happened to them all, Laura was granted the power of ‘imagination manifestation,’ where both her childhood friend and nightmare came to life. Abbey confronted her about this when she spots Laura’s childhood toy and started to get flashbacks, wondering if they were friends only to get hit by the massive revelation that she in fact has no identity.
Who can hack into people’s brains and make them digital representations?
Because this girl was socially awkward and shy, but also highly gifted in the technological world, her newfound superpowers gave her exactly what she needed: the ability to ‘hijack’ people’s bodies and also create virtual realities. This gives her the perfect setup to interact with people without necessarily leaving her home - which is exactly what happens when she meets Finn to whom she takes a liking. He becomes prisoner in her virtually constructed flat after she became emotionally attached to him.
What did Rudy call the sweater superheroes that Maggie made in ‘Possession?’
So remember when Rudy came across Maggie, the old woman who was the leader of the superheroes’ support group, who also happened to know what secrets the future holds? Well, she presented him with numerous sweater with pictures of future events depicted on them, most of which are accurate, and one of which is an alternate timeline. Rudy then gets obsessed with finding out who the superheroes of Wertham are, as depicted in the sweater’s design. What did Rudy call the prospective superheroes on the sweater?
What was Helen’s power in the last episode?
In the show’s final breath we get treated to a glimpse of an alternative timeline, a new bunch of superpowered people, and the misfits gang contemplating their future life outside of those orange tops. We see crime and misdemeanors eradicated - all because of the work of the ‘real superhero group’ who end up becoming ruthless vigilantes. One of these people includes Helen, a girl who works at Wertham and whom Rudy convinces to join the group; she also becomes Rudy Too’s lover, and they leave Wertham together at the end of the series.
What was Jess’ power?
Jess becomes a central character in the Misfits show, along with Finn (and then Alex), as she was introduced in season 4, episode 1. Her introduction takes a wild turn immediately as Rudy pretends to be their probation worker, but with her powers she quickly discovers the truth behind his suspicious behavior. She and Finn then discover a sort of mania that overcame the probies in the center, whereupon anyone who touches a guy named Michael becomes obsessed with acquiring his briefcase.
What was Alisha’s power at the start of the series?
Alisha Daniels was a liberated, confident, and promiscuous young woman who was known to go through sexual partners and lovers very quickly in her life before her time at community service. She once actually slept with Rudy, who fell in love with her, and whose heart was broken when she didn't speak to him thereafter. She also got caught going over the speed limit while drunk (after which she pretended to perform sexual acts on the Breathalyzer), hence her landing in the orange suit.
What devices can Kelly build due to her expansive scientific powers?
Before Kelly Bailey became a scientific genius, she had the power of telepathy, which allowed her to hear other people’s thoughts, or that one time where she was able to broadcast her own thoughts to the world. Then when the whole power swapping shenanigans happened, she gained a new power: extreme scientific skill and knowledge! This super amazing prowess led her and Seth to finally relocate to Uganda to help defuse landmines. Can you remember what kind of scientist she always proclaimed herself as?
Which of these Misfits stars did not star in Game of Thrones?
It is a small world after all! Besides Iwan Rheon, who played the somewhat socially awkward but awesome nerd Simon Bellamy, there are also other cast members of the show that went on to forge their paths in the bloody (and brilliant) show Game of Thrones. So imagine our Misfits stars meeting each other not anymore in community service, but in the violent world of Westeros! Iwan Rheon went on to play the Bolton bastard son Ramsay in GOT, but which among these names did not appear in the hit HBO series?
What was Finn’s superpower?
So we all remember Finn’s story: he had a bit of a difficult life, despite his optimistic and naive demeanor, what with him not growing up with his biological father (whom he finally meets while he is on his deathbed), his philandering biological mum, and his stepmum who was sexually attracted to him. But what we may not remember is Finn’s superpowers. What exactly was it that he can do? But we do remember that sometimes he had poor control over his powers.
How was Karen killed?
So remember when the real superhero group that Rudy Too envisioned went awry? Instead of the gang (which was predicted by one of Maggie’s sweater) being the mighty heroes Rudy envisioned them to be, they became antagonists in the alternate timeline that happened in the series finale. The crime rates refused to decline further, so they ended up vigilante killing even litterers so as to eradicate misdemeanors. So the Misfits Gang end up taking them on; Alex kills Sam, Rudy deals with Helen, while Finn kills Karen. How did Finn do it?
Which of these Misfits stars did not star in Doctor Who?
There’s a running joke that British stars often appear in so many shows at one point or another that there’s really only a couple of studios and a handful of actors in the UK. Just imagine how many actors and actresses appeared in Doctor Who many different times! Like when Karen Gillan played Amy in season 5, but also previously appeared as a Soothsayer. So it’s no surprise that a couple of our Misfits actors would appear on the hit BBC sci-fi show too! Can you remember who didn’t, though?
