This Is A Quiz All About Which Fresh Prince Character You Are

Ask any child alive in the 1990s where Will Smith was born, and the answer will be the same: in West Philadelphia, born and raised. From there, they’ll probably continue to bust a rhyme about Smith’s life and times in Philly, where a big burly guy spun the Fresh Prince over his head a few times, causing Will’s mom to send him to live with his Auntie and his Uncle in a town called Bel-Air. So began one of the most popular and enduring sitcoms of the era, NBC’s The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Obviously, the star of the show, and perhaps the reason it stood the test of time, was the Fresh Prince himself, rapper turned actor Will Smith. On the other hand, the Willennium didn’t officially begin until four years after Fresh Prince went off the air, so maybe the other characters on the series had something to do with it, as well. After all, who could ever forget the goofy innocence of Carlton, the lovingly stern Uncle Phil and Aunt Viv, brain dead weirdo Hilary, or television’s most beloved butler, Geoffrey, aka the original G.

Deep down inside, most people would probably like to roll up to the Banks mansion around 7:00 or 8:00 and yell to the cabbie, “Yo holmes, smell ya later!” The only question is which member of the family you would trade places with when you did that, so to flip turn your life upside down, for the next minute, just sit right there, and take our quiz about which character you would be on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Question 1

What’s your favorite genre of music?

When it first hit the air in 1990, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air was a truly unique show, probably the first representation of rap culture on mainstream network television. Of course, the mere fact it starred a rapper didn’t mean hip hop was the only musical influence the show would ever hear. Being pretty classy people, the Banks are also fans of jazz and classical when apropos, and being teens in the ‘90s, their kids naturally loved modern pop, as well. What’s your favorite genre?

Question 2

Are you a good dancer?

Forget about all the jokes, the catchy theme song, or the occasional bits of high drama—the most memorable aspect of The Fresh Prince was a simple dance performed to a goofy song, now forever known as “The Carlton.” Each time the saxophones hit and Tom Jones belted out his classic trademark tune, Carlton Banks would jump to attention and perform the best happy dance the ‘90s had to offer.

Question 3

How did you do in school?

While Will’s mom’s stated purpose for sending him to live with his auntie and uncle in Bel-Air is the fact he got into one little fight, safety is far from the only benefit he receives living with Phil and Viv. Thanks to their familial wealth, Will also gets sent to a high end prep school with Carlton, Hilary, and Ashley, likely giving him a much better education than he could ever hope for in West Philly. Not that he necessarily takes advantage of this, struggling through school at times like any ‘90s sitcom character would. Did you have similar problems?

Question 4

Would you ever pose for a nude photo?

Despite presenting a more positive nuclear family than the average sitcom on TV, The Fresh Prince wasn’t entirely without it’s moments of controversy. In one particularly adult episode, Hilary Banks is given a high profile offer to appear in the pages of Playboy Magazine for a spread on the country’s most beautiful weather girls.

Question 5

Are you proud of your culture?

Aside from the Huxtables and the Jeffersons, African Americans rarely looked so good on the small screen as they did through the Banks family’s lens, and many episodes shined a proud spotlight on this fact. Not that the entire audience was black as well, of course, but perhaps they learned a thing or two about cultural pride by watching the show. Did you?

Question 6

What’s your favorite type of movie?

Since appearing in his own sitcom, Smith’s star power has skyrocketed to the extent he’s one of the biggest movie stars in the world more than 20 years after it ended. Smith’s dominance of Hollywood has been so vast as to cover multiple genres over the years; which type of movie are you happiest to see him in?

Question 7

Have you ever been in a fight?

One little fight was all it took for Will Smith’s mom to get scared and send him off to Bel-Air, but that doesn’t mean this was the only brawl Will participated in throughout his life. As his series continued, Smith comes very near fisticuffs on multiple occasions, and he’s not the only one to come close to losing his temper in one way or another.

Question 8

Is your family wealthy?

They say the best things in life are free and at times, it feels like the Banks children at least seem to agree. Will is wise enough to know that there’s more to life than his family’s millions of dollars, and his aunt and uncle try imparting this on their kids whenever applicable, but let’s face it. When a kid is born with a million dollars, they’re going to think having a million dollars is pretty great.

Question 9

How do you feel about DJ Jazzy Jeff?

The same way that Ice Cube needed Dr. Dre, Will Smith needed his producer in DJ Jazzy Jeff, also known simply as Jazz. Once the Fresh Prince transitioned from rap to acting, Jazz followed suit, appearing as a recurring character on the show. Not everyone in the Banks family took as kindly to Jazz as Will, however, with some outright hating the poor guy. Did you?

Question 10

What kind of clothes do you wear?

Regardless of which result you get on this quiz, or who your favorite character is, there’s one thing we bet every Fresh Prince can agree on—Will Smith was almost always the best dressed person on TV during the 1990s. The Prince’s style was truly second-to-none, able to toss together any arrangement of wild, bright colors and backwards baseball caps and somehow make it look natural and, yeah, cool as hell.

Question 11

Which of Will’s girlfriends on the show was your favorite?

Unfortunately for the Fresh Prince, at no point in his six seasons on television was he able to discover a Princess to sit aside him on his throne. However, he did come pretty darn close a number of times, once even getting a woman to wear a wedding dress with intentions of becoming his betrothed only for the couple to call it off at the last minute.

Question 12

Do you ever drink alcohol?

Focusing on teens and young adults, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air didn’t show its characters getting bombed out of their minds nearly as often as some other sitcoms have chosen to do. That said, there is at least one Very Special Episode where Will has a bit too much to drink and passes out in a cemetery, and he’s not the only Banks family resident to get his swerve on once or twice.

Question 13

Are you neat and tidy?

For all their wealth and sophistication, the Banks family don’t ever seem to put that much thought into cleaning up after themselves. Granted, this is because they have a loyal albeit sarcastic butler named Geoffrey to handle this business for them. Although he can be a bit acerbic at times, most fans of the show probably wish they could afford G’s services.

Question 14

Do you like playing video games?

In retrospect, it’s almost surprising how little attention The Fresh Prince and his family paid to video games. Given the amount of money and free time they had on their hands, one would expect at least one episode about Will and Carlton arguing about Mario and Luigi. Although that strangely never quite happened, we still can easily picture Will goofing around on a Super Nintendo on one of their off-days and hearing Carlton lecture him for it draining his brain. Which side of the argument do you fall on?

Question 15

Would you take a bullet for a friend?

Arguably more important than any of the laughs The Fresh Prince provided were the few episodes of extreme, emotional drama. Everyone remembers when Will’s father abandoned him for the second time, and right there with that episode in the feels department was the one where Will heroically jumped in front of the gun when a thief was attempting to rob his cousin, Carlton.

Question 16

How’s your romantic life?

Like any sitcom on television today, the love lives of the Banks family were often integral to the comedic situations they got themselves into. Will naturally had a half dozen girlfriends throughout the course of the show, and though Carlton wasn’t so lucky, he certainly tried to get his game on every now and again. Hilary, too, almost found true love when getting engaged, only for her fiancée to tragically while proposing.

Question 17

What’s your dream job?

As a world famous rapper turned world famous actor, it’s fair to say Will Smith is probably living all sorts of dreams in his every day life. It’s unlikely his simple West Philly character could have ever imagine so much success, even after Uncle Phil and Aunt Viv started introducing him to the high life. Maybe fame isn’t for you, though, and you’d prefer some other sort of profession entirely. Is that the case?

Question 18

Are you athletic?

A popular conception about the wealthy aristocratic class is that they have no interest in physical labor, necessary or otherwise. Therefore, the idea of serious exertion for pleasure seems baffling to them, with most sports, especially of the contact variety, entirely out of the question. Note we didn’t call it a popular MISconception, because it holds entirely true for the Banks family, much to Will’s chagrin. Are you the same way when it comes to athletic activity?

Question 19

What’s your favorite sport?

When a couple of guys who were up to no good started making trouble in his neighborhood, all Will Smith wanted to do was shoot some b-ball outside of his school. Not to condone bullying, but if they had left him alone, we may never have gotten The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, so just this once, we’ll say it had a good result.

Question 20

How’s your relationship with your parents?

“You know parents are the same no matter time nor place. They don’t understand that us kids are going to make some mistakes. So, to you, all the kids all across the land, there’s no need to argue—parents just don’t understand.” Fresh Prince, we couldn’t have said it better ourselves. Hopefully, your own parents understand at least some of the time, because some people aren’t so lucky, and never find that middle ground with their elders. Could you?

Question 21

Where did you grow up?

Where we come from often plays a huge role in defining who we are as people, and it’s this mindset that sets forth the driving action of The Fresh Prince. It’s because Will’s background is so different from his own cousins that they’re interactions with one another lead to hilarity, his street-smart wisdom clashing with their posh sophistication. If you were in the same situation, would you be relating to Will or the more affluent portion of the Banks family?

Question 22

Which musical guest was your favorite?

Obviously, the biggest musical influence on The Fresh Prince was it’s star, but Will Smith was far from the only major singing sensation to appear on his program. The show’s theme was also written by Quincy Jones, who used his influence to get plenty of other major pop singers to make appearances as the show continued.

Question 23

What do you do for fun?

Coming from wildly difference backgrounds, Will’s version of fun is very different from that of his extended family. Whenever Carlton and his high class buddies tell him they’re off to play polo or tennis or whatever it is rich kids do, the Fresh Prince can’t help but laugh in their faces before bouncing down to the basketball court. Not that there’s anything wrong with either sort of fun, but they way Will and Carlton unwind says a lot about their characters.

Question 24

Which of these modern day sitcoms is your favorite?

Sadly for fans of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, the show went off the air in 1996, and there’s pretty much no chance it’ll ever come back. While we’ll never again get to experience the comedic stylings of the Banks family, on the plus side, television nonetheless has continued to exist, presenting us with a whole bunch of potential replacements for fans to watch today. When you’re looking for a laugh and don’t want to rely on reruns, which of the following shows do you turn to?

Question 25

Which character is most likely to get on your nerves?

Let’s face it—as hilarious as it can be to watch the Banks family interact, when it comes down to it, we may not want to spend all that much time with them. Not when they were all together, at least, because for all their pluses, this was one family that knew how to snipe at one another for their petty differences.

Question 26

What’s your biggest flaw?

No one in this world is perfect, and that goes double for the average sitcom character. Will Smith might be hilarious, cool, and confident, but he still makes mistakes like anyone else. The same is true of the rest of his family, who all have their faults and foibles. On the plus side, these flaws usually lead to uproarious comedy when they cause the characters to embarrass themselves in front of others. Are you similarly unlucky?

Question 27

Where would you go on vacation?

To many viewers, it could be argued that the Banks family lifestyle is in and of itself a vacation. Sure, Uncle Phil has to go to work every day at a very stressful job, and the kids all have to go to school, but they all get to come home to a mansion with a pool in beautiful sunny California. Then again, with their kind of wealth, a vacation can be even more extravagant than this privileged daily life. If you had their resources, where would you escape for a little R&R?

Question 28

Can you rap?

Believe it or not, Will Smith was the very first person to win a Grammy Award for rap and hip hop. However, he didn’t show up to the ceremony, offended that they wouldn’t let him and Jazzy Jeff perform one of their songs before accepting it. This was a few years before he had a sitcom, but it went a long way in cementing his legend as someone who respected and championed rap culture.

Question 29

How did you feel about Little Nicky joining the cast?

Practically since the day sitcoms were invented, producers have responded to slightly sagging ratings with the introduction of adorable new baby characters, a trope that has become controversial with fans. Unfortunately, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air was but one of many, many series to fall victim to this trend, introducing a new Banks family member in Little Nicky halfway through the series run.

Question 30

Who’s your favorite Prince?

For all the pomp and circumstance he gives to the title, we regret to inform Will Smith that sitting on his throne as “The Fresh Prince” doesn’t actually come with any power or benefit. Granted, he came up with the title himself, so he probably knew that at the time. Perhaps he was taking inspiration from one of the other Princes in pop culture, like His Royal Badness, the Purple One. In any event, which Prince is your favorite?

Question 31

What’s your sense of humor?

Part of what made The Fresh Prince great was that it never confined itself to one specific type of comedy. Each of the characters had their own senses of humor, usually far divergent from one another, and their differences in this regard usually magnified the most memorable moments for fans of any comedic style. Nonetheless, chances are the character you found funniest was the one who most closely matched your own personal wit, so what makes you laugh the most?

Question 32

Which of the Banks’s friends is your favorite?

By spending most of his time with them, Will Smith and his family become incredibly close as The Fresh Prince progresses, but that doesn’t mean he has no outside friends. In addition to DJ Jazzy Jeff, Will also meets a few close acquaintances at school. Sure, he calls one of them a Cornflake, and the guy’s real name is Kellogg, but they hang out just enough to be considered school chums. There’s also his old friend Tyriq, and Hilary has a couple girlfriends from school that follow her around at times, as well. Which is your favorite?

Question 33

Would you watch a Fresh Prince reboot?

For a few short months in 2015, it was heavily rumored that NBC was considering a reboot of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air for a new generation. Following in the footsteps of shows like Dallas, MacGyver, and One Day at a Time, the new Fresh Prince was a pretty interesting idea…until Will Smith quickly shut down the rumors by saying it was as likely as “hell freezing over.” Well, there goes that dream. Despite Smith’s rebuff of the idea, would you have watched it if it existed?

Question 34

What other ‘90s sitcom is your favorite?

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air may have been one of the best sitcoms of the 1990s, but it was far from the only hilarious program on TV at the time. It should go without saying there were countless other classic shows on small screen for comedy fans to love and enjoy. Not all of them had the same style and attitude as The Fresh Prince, of course, but look hard enough, and there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Do any of these classics do the job for you?

Question 35

What’s your favorite Fresh Prince song?

Before he was The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Will Smith was simply The Fresh Prince, a Grammy Award winning rapper who sold millions of records. These days, it’s totally possible that the only Fresh Prince song fans of the TV series heard was it’s theme song, but back in the day, Smith’s songs with Jazzy Jeff were bound to hit your ears every single time you turned on a radio. Assuming you were either alive back then to experience this, or perhaps having heard the songs on YouTube decades later, which Fresh Prince classic is your favorite?
