There's No Way You'll Pass This Quiz On Beauty And The Beast, But You Can Try!

Cards on the table here. I'm not exactly the biggest Disney fan in the world, but I do absolutely love Beauty and the Beast. There's just something about this classic tale (which Disney made much happier than its original folktale version) that really pulls my heartstrings. It's just such a beautiful tale. Some might say that it's a "tale as old as time".

I'm not sure about that last bit, but that's not what we're here to discuss anyway. What we're here for is to see just how much you know about Beauty and the Beast. In reality, what this is all about is to prod you with the notion that there is just no way you're going to be able to pass this quiz. Maybe it's just too in depth for you. Maybe you just don't know enough about the film.

This doesn't touch on the live-action version with the lovely Emma Watson. This doesn't touch on any of the sequels. This is a quiz only about the 1991 animated film. There is no behind-the-scenes information. Every one of the questions in this quiz can be answered by simply watching the film. But I bet you'll still struggle to get through the quiz anyway. But you can always wish upon a star that you'll pass.

Question 1

What will happen if the rose loses all of its petals?

The Beast has a rose floating in a glass case in his castle that Belle is technically forbidden from seeing. Of course, given how Belle is, she goes out of her way to defy the Beast and finds the rose. When the Beast first came to be the way that he is, he was given this rose and it has some very special powers. Essentially it's meant to force the Beast to change his ways or face the consequences of the rose dying...

Question 2

When does the book character discover Prince Charming?

Belle goes to the bookstore to take out a book that she has taken out several times before. It's one of her favourites, obviously. The owner of the bookstore, out of the goodness of his heart, gives Belle the book in question because of her great love of it. Also...it does kind of seem like Belle is the best and most frequent customer to the store. Anyway, she recalls her favourite part of the story to a herd of sheep by a fountain and tells them when the leading lady discovers her prince charming.

Question 3

What is the name of Belle's horse?

Belle has a very loyal, albeit fearful, workhorse who really seems to love Belle and her father. This horse goes out of his way to seek out Belle when her father has been captured and is still willing to show Belle where he is, even though he is obviously terrified about where they are. He's also a very hardworking horse who can haul a pretty big machine (made by Belle's father) both day and night, seemingly without much rest. Sure, he's got cartoon strength, but it's still strength.

Question 4

What does Belle always have her nose stuck in?

It's no shocker to know that the village people in the quaint little place that Belle has ended up in find Belle very strange. She doesn't have any friends other than her father and all the animals in the village. I mean, she's good with the bookstore owner and the baker and a choice few others, but they all still think she's odd (save for her father and horse). Now, these villagers seem to think that Belle always has her nose stuck in something...

Question 5

Who is this motherly character?

When Belle arrives at the Beast's cursed castle, she finds all sorts of characters who she would never have assumed could come to life. Every little usually inanimate object is a living character who was once part of the royal household. This particular character has a number of kids and is very motherly not only to them but to the rest of the household including both Belle and the Beast. She also sings the iconic and titular song 'Beauty and the Beast'.

Question 6

Belle thinks "there must be something more than...."

In the very first song that Belle sings while she is wandering the streets of her little village, she sings about how bored she is and how badly she wants some adventure. It's clear, from the start, that she's not originally from this little village, but she couldn't have come from somewhere much bigger because she seems to act as though she thinks there must be more than this village...but isn't aware of where to find that something more. She uses a specific phrase to talk about her current life.

Question 7

Who is this scary-looking man?

Gaston might be the main villain in the film, but he is by no means the only villain. After all, he does pretty well gather every man from the village to head to the castle and fight the Beast. They all get easily defeated by the cursed household characters but they're still villains. In addition to that attack, Gaston recruits the aid of this psych doctor who is bought to commit Belle's father to his institution so that Gaston can win Belle over by getting him out.

Question 8

What is so special about this mirror?

Belle and the Beast definitely don't get along right away when she is taken prisoner in his castle. Something about his desire to force her to do his bidding might have rubbed her the wrong way. In spite of that, Belle learns about the curse and what the Beast must do in order to break it. She warms up to him eventually but still does not feel fully comfortable living with the Beast for a pretty specific reason. In order to make up for this, the Beast gives Belle a mirror.

Question 9

What does Belle's name mean?

I'm sorry, but this one is practically a giveaway question just to help you on your way through this quiz that you are likely not to pass. It seems like a good thing to give at least a couple of very easy ones amid all the ones you've not thought about or had to cheat on in order to answer. Belle's name is a pretty obvious and easily translated name. It's a direct translation too, from French. You might not like the language, but you better know this answer.

Question 10

What is the name of Belle's father?

At the outset of the movie, Belle doesn't seem to have many friends. Basically, she's close with the owner of the bookshop, she is close to the family horse, and she is closest to her father. He is a kooky inventor who has decided to move he and Belle to this little town where everyone thinks they are very odd. To be fair, Belle's father is pretty damn odd. But I think that's probably the way with most inventors when commoners look at them.

Question 11

Who are these two men?

These two men are pretty significant characters in the film who are members of the prince's household. Their occupations are never really fully stated or described but it's pretty clear that they are either servants or courtiers of some sort. It seems like there was once quite a content little household in the castle, probably before the prince came to power. Either way, these two men are two of the most important characters in the story, overall. Whether or not you realize it.

Question 12

What is the invention that Maurice has made?

Belle's father Maurice is an inventor and a rather kooky one at that. He's got all sorts of interesting tools and he seems to spend way too much time in his workshop working on a machine that does pretty well a singular task. I mean, the invention is used late in the film to terrify a bunch of people and it definitely works, but it is meant as a very helpful machine. I'm not sure I'd want it around though as it seems a little dangerous.

Question 13

What is the name of this candlestick?

The candlestick is a very important part of the film Clue (because it's used to murder someone) but I would have to say that the candlestick is a far more important part of Beauty and the Beast. He is perhaps the funniest character of the film and is one of the most loyal in terms of serving both his prince and the good in the world. He does what he can to help Maurice as well as Belle and he's always poking fun at time.

Question 14

Who is this little sidekick?

Every Disney villain (I think almost without exception) has a sidekick or some sort of lackey to help them out with either doing evil deeds or making things a little silly and stupid. Well, this particular sidekick does both of these things for Gaston. He is the principal part of the song 'Gaston'. He's hilarious and annoying and in the way through the entire film. But it is satisfying to see that he gets punched by Gaston a rather frequent number of times.

Question 15

What story does Belle talk to the baker about?

When Belle starts her morning by wandering through the little village she's currently living in, she goes about and greets everyone. She's on her way, as always, to the bookshop in order to get a new story to read. But there really isn't anything new in yet. Before she reaches the shop though, she stops and talks to the baker to get some bread. The baker has other things to do but while he working, he finds the time to partially listen to Belle describe the story she was reading.

Question 16

How do sheep react to Belle's storytelling?

When Belle wanders through the village and visits the bookshop, the owner gives to her her favourite book. She had borrowed the book several times from the store and just loved to come back and read it again. So, appreciating Beller as his most frequent customer, the owner gives her the book. She thanks him and goes to the town square and sits at the fountain in the centre. A herd of sheep goes by and some stop to listen to her story. What do they do?

Question 17

Who is this guy?

This guy so badly wants Belle that he is willing to overlook any other beautiful woman in the village just so he can focus on hooking up with our leading lady. Of course, he doesn't succeed at all but that doesn't mean he won't go through looking like a fool while trying. He even goes so far as to having Belle's father institutionalized and forming up an angry mob just in order to get a shot at Belle being his wife.

Question 18

Does Gaston make it out alive?

Gaston is the main villain of the film Beauty and the Beast. He could have any woman he wants...except for Belle, and that makes him want her even more. Every chance he can get he tries to pick up Belle, but she is not interested. Sure, she admits that he's handsome, but she also goes on to say that he's rude and full of himself. When he finds out that the Beast and Belle are together, he brings an angry mob to the castle to take on the Beast. They fight...but does Gaston get to live?

Question 19

Now that he's grown up, how many eggs does Gaston eat every day?

In the very hilarious song 'Gaston', many things are said about Gaston's character. Which makes total sense considering that the song bears his name in the title. Well, when Gaston is talking about his childhood, he mentions how many eggs he would eat in the matter of at least a dozen. And then he goes on to talk about how many eggs he eats now that he's grown up. And it's is apparently because of these eggs that he is the size he is.

Question 20

What is the Beast's actual name?

Alright, I'll be totally honest here and let you know that if you've watched the film, you will not have got the answer to this question. This is the only question that you cannot find the exact answer from having watched the film. That being said, I would dare say that anyone who calls themselves a fan of Beauty and the Beast should be able to easily tell us just what the Beast's real name is. This will weed out the real fans from the posers.

Question 21

Who can you ask about being on Gaston's team?

Gaston's trusty, portly, and miniature sidekick has a big part to play in the hilarious song 'Gaston'. He spends the whole song praising his idol and goes out of his way to talk about just how everyone would want to be on Gaston's team. But he does something specific. He mentions some names during the song and these are the people who you can apparently ask about just whose team they'd like to be on. Do you know those specific names?

Question 22

What is the iconic song that the cursed household sing?

When Belle first arrives at the Beast's castle, she is met with silence. But it doesn't take all that long for the whole household to notice that she is there and they all break out into song. This is probably one of the most famous Disney songs of all time and has been used all over the place or at least referenced all of popular culture. Of course, the Beast eventually ruins the wonderful atmosphere that this song creates, but it's truly iconic.

Question 23

Who is this guy?

When Belle enters the village at the top of the film and begins singing her song about her boring provincial life, she speaks to several people (and creatures as well). She has conversations with a couple of the townsfolk but mainly just passes by and gives brief words to the rest. She spends the most time with this particular character and he is very generous to Belle; giving her something that she truly loves and enjoys using again and again.

Question 24

What are these lovely ladies referred to as?

When you first meet these lovely ladies, you find them in the town square while Belle sings about her boring provincial life. Gaston goes out of his way to sing about how badly he wants Belle, and these ladies go out of their way to sing about how badly they want Gaston. They have a couple of moments throughout the film and each of those moments is about either finding Belle weird or Gaston absolutely amazing. They are clearly jealous of Belle.

Question 25

Who is this fiery character?

When Belle enters the cursed castle of the Beast, she learns pretty quickly that not only has the curse affected the Beast, but it also has affected the entire household and all of his staff. Of course, Belle meets the rest of the household before she meets the Beast. This one character in question is actually seen as pretty damn terrifying at least at the beginning but he is pretty harmless...until, of course, the castle is under attack by Gaston and company.

Question 26

Who is this little guy?

When Belle arrives at the Beast's castle there is an array of enchanted objects. Realistically, those objects are actually cursed people but they seem to get on quite well considering what they've all turned into. Now, Mrs. Potts is the motherly teapot character who sings the iconic and titular 'Beauty and the Beast' song. She has a number of kids who have taken the form of teacups. There is one of these cups in particular who is featured far more than the rest.

Question 27

Who scrubs down the Beast before his big date with Belle?

After the Beast loses it on Belle several times and then seems to calm down and after Belle has sort of started to find some sort of comfort and/or attraction towards the Beast, they have a fun little date night. They get all dolled up, they have a nice dinner, they go dancing, then they look out at the night sky on the balcony before the Beast gives Belle the mirror to see her father. When the Beast is getting washed up, which of his staff give him a scrub?

Question 28

Who is this neurotic clock?

This guy is seemingly one of the closest characters to the Beast. It seems like he has spent his career in fear of the prince even before he became the Beast, but that could just be the way this character has always been, even without intimidation or fear. Either way, he is one of the key components to the eventual lifting of the curse and he has some of the best moments in the film with his unlikely buddy comedy with one of the other cursed characters.

Question 29

What is happening here?

At the very outset of the film, there is a bit of a narrated segment that explains just how things have happened out at the castle. The entire explanation leads the audience to know what is waiting at the castle long before Belle and her father arrive and are held prisoner respectively. Instead of the narration happening over a series of fully animated scenes, it is done overtop of some beautiful stained glass images. We still get the gist and the artwork is great.

Question 30

What is Gaston especially good at?

There are so many things that come out about Gaston during the song that bears his name. No wonder his ego is as large as his body. His little sidekick knows just how to bring his master out of the dumps. Either way, while Gaston is singing on about himself, he takes a big bite out of a chunk of what seems to be chewing tobacco or something of the like. He then pronounces something that he is especially good at.

Question 31

What is this name of this feathery character?

Throughout the entire film, Lumiere seems to really have a thing for this cursed character who is in the form of a duster. It seems like a very strange and dangerous match. Sure, they are both clearly French as you can easily tell by their accents, but that doesn't change the fact the Lumiere is constantly on fire and the character he seems to love is made of a very flammable material. Of course, you have to realize that they were likely in love before the curse...

Question 32

What is happening here?

At the very beginning of the film, we are treated to a wonderful visual segment that is not fully animated but instead narrated through a series of interesting, stained glass-looking images which give us the necessary backstory to understand just how the Beast has become the Beast. It's very visually appealing and the exposition is definitely needed. Anyway, after the narration describes just how the prince is, this is one of the images to follow. What exactly is happening here?

Question 33

Why does Belle's father leave the village?

Nearer to the beginning of the film, we meet Belle's father Maurice. He is a pretty kooky and eccentric inventor who has been working on a certain contraption designed to help with a particularly exhausting job. After he has finally got his invention to work, he packs it up, gets the horse Philippe to haul it, and the two set out beyond the village. This is one of the reasons why Maurice ends up at the castle of the Beast. But why did he leave in the first place?

Question 34

What country does this film take place in?

This one should really be a no-brainer considering a number of things. Right from the very top of the film you are given a pretty good sense of where exactly this film takes place. At least exactly which country. The village people speak the native language often enough right from the very first song that you should know. And then one of the castle's cursed characters specifically says just which country they are in. It's actually kind of an important part of that song.

Question 35

Who is this character?

Ok, really though, if you manage to mess the answer to this question up then you have really not been paying attention to the quiz thus far. And even if you haven't been paying attention to the quiz, if you still manage to get this question wrong, then you were never a fan of Beauty and the Beast to begin with. I'm not quite sure how you could mess this one up, because this character is the leading lady and perhaps one of the most iconic Disney characters of all!

Question 36

What does Lumiere exclaim when Gaston is invading the castle?

This is something I used to say whenever I could because even though it was a curse to some degree, and very disrespectful to a certain type of people, I could get away with it because most of my family didn't speak French...at least my mom's side anyway. So, Lumiere and Cogsworth rush to a castle window and see that Gaston has formed an angry mob. When they discover this, Lumiere lets out an exclamation of sorts and they then make observations about the intruders.

Question 37

What is Gaston roughly the size of?

Gaston probably has one of the best songs in the entire film and while he is featured in it heavily, he still shares the song with his trusty little sidekick. That aside, there are many things said about Gaston in this song. And there should be considering the tune is called 'Gaston'. After he talks about how many eggs he eats daily, he mentions how that has made him roughly the size of something. Can you recall exactly what that is?

Question 38

Fill in the lyric: "put our ____ to the test!"

During the iconic song 'Be Our Guest', Lumiere goes on about just how generous the castle household truly is and how they wish to treat Belle ad all other guests who come to their home. Of course, the Beast ruins this eventually and Belle is held captive. But aside from all of that, Lumiere opens up a menu for Belle and asks her to put something of theirs to the test. As a hardcore fan of Beauty and the Beast...can you recall what this is?

Question 39

As a specimen, what is Gaston?

There is just a well of information that you learn about the overwhelmingly arrogant character of Gaston in the song that bears his namesake. In this instance, he talks about what he is as a specimen. There is some sort of quality that he happens to be as a specimen. I could see it because I would probably feel the same way if I either were Gaston or approached a man like Gaston. I understand why people don't mess with him anyway.

Question 40

Who is this little character?

It is kind of weird that the castle dog has turned into a little footstool, but hey, I can hardly judge an enchantress's decision to turn all the castle household into whatever objects she chooses. It is a Disney film after all. They have to be cute at the very least. Anyway, this little barking footrest does actually have a name which I'm not sure you'd get through watching the film proper, but you would from watching to credits at the very least.

Question 41

What is Beauty and the Beast?

This might seem like a pretty dumb question. I mean...it's several things, right? Sure, it is but there is one specific thing that is actually mentioned in the film and it tells you exactly what Beauty and the Beast is. It's in a pretty iconic moment and you should feel lucky that there is another question as easy as this one because this might make the difference between you failing this quiz and you barely passing to be one of those hardcore fans.

Question 42

Who is this character helping Belle out?

As you may have noticed by now and as you should definitely know anyway by now if you're truly a fan of Beauty and the Beast, there is a pretty huge assortment of characters who are very strange. That is because, of course, the castle was cursed by an enchantress who the prince turned away from his home because he judged her by her looks (having appeared to him as an old, haggard woman). So, who is this bizarre character caring for Belle?

Question 43

What is Gaston holding here?

Closer to the end of the film, after realizing that Belle has been spending time with the Beast (thinking initially that the Beast had held her prisoner...which I guess he did do at first) Gaston bands together a bunch of the townsfolk and forms up an angry mob who are scared but also ready to fight the Beast. Of course, all of the villagers end up getting sent on their way by the cursed household. But Gaston knows where to find the Beast...how?

Question 44

What does Belle do when she finds her father?

Maurice, Belle's father, is captured by the Beast after he comes to the castle seeking help, having lost his way in the woods and having been chased by some pretty vicious wolves (and just generally being scared of the woods at night rather than setting up camp). Once Philippe finds Belle and takes her to the castle where her father is, she makes her way to him and does something extraordinary in order to save him from the clutches of the Beast.

Question 45

What do many of the villagers say right at the beginning of the film?

Belle seems to live a little outside the village. Which is probably a good thing considering how weird the villagers think she and her father Maurice are. But hey, she still goes out of her way to experience the village and talk to the people. They all seem very friendly even though they all talk about Belle behind her back. Can you think of the one thing they say the most during the opening scene of the film? It's pretty noticeable.
