You can’t lie and say you didn’t watch teen movies if you grew up in the ‘90s. You watched them with a big smile on your face because you related to them in so many ways. From the social awkwardness to the super hot guys you were crushing on, you totally watched these movies and got what these characters were going through. When they blushed, you blushed. When they fought with their parents, you understood because you were probably fighting with your parents over similar issues. It was just that time in life and the movies just understood the teenage strife you were going through.

As if!

Possibly the most defining teen movie of the '90s was this teen movie. It had a little of everything. It had flashy outfits, cute boys, and a great sense of humor. To this day people still quote some of the infamous lines that were in this film. What makes this movie so great is that it turns the people that are usually the villains in others films into relatable people that we actually like although they are still pretty dramatic.

Taming the Shrew

Did you know that this movie was based on Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew? Well, now you know. This is a tale of two sisters, one that has no intention of dating and the other that wants to be noticed by all of the boys. The problem is she isn't allowed to date unless her sister is, so there is a plot hatched that involves a less than popular boy to ask out the older sister to allow the younger sister to date.

The conforming artist

Well, unlike many movies of the present day, this movie was about conformity and how great it was. The main character of this film was an artist and everyone seemed to think she was weird for it. Not to mention they had a particular hatred for her glasses for some odd reason. So they completely changed her to fit in with everyone else and it seemed to be happily ever after in her life because she got the guy and all was well.

Wicca at it's finest

This movie made Wicca look super awesome to many adolescent kids. Unfortunately, kids had no idea what Wicca was so it seemed like all of their efforts went in vain. The main character of this movie is sucked into a group of leering girls and quickly finds out this seemingly goth-like girls actually have some legit powers. When pooled together they can actually be pretty darn dangerous. Purple lipstick sales were up because of the main character I must mention.

Pucker up

This movie is about a nerdy journalist that goes undercover to get a story on some high school kids. In the meantime, she tries to fit in with the popular crew, which doesn't seem to work out so well in the beginning. While trying to find a story, she falls for her teacher, although she can't pursue her crush or else she will blow her cover. There are ups and downs and all arounds that this teen movie provides us that we can all relate to.

Incest?

This was not a movie to watch with Mom or Dad that's for sure. There was a lot of sexuality in this film and the reference to borderline incest going on here. It would be uncomfortable to watch with anyone except your friends. Based upon an 18th century French stage play, Les Liaisons Dangereus, the brother bets his step sister that he can seduce the new transfer student that just recently published an article stating why she plans on remaining a virgin until marriage.

Loud noises

Okay, here we have a teen slasher film that scared the wits out of teens everywhere because what if it happened to you? Those chase scenes were burned in our brains and some of those killing scenes were pretty hard to swallow. Who would dress up in a ghost face mask and track down a bunch of teenagers anyway? It seemed kind of crazy when you thought about it logically. Regardless, it also seemed like the sexually active teens died first. Yikes.

This one time at band camp

What a coming of age tale indeed. This movie was about a bunch of teenagers that were just trying to find their place in the world. Yeah there were a lot of parties involved and a very...dramatic...scene with an apple pie, but I guess you have to tally it up to crazy teenagers, right? It was primarily a movie about the sex drive of teenagers, which proved to be pretty gross, but we laughed along the way regardless. What a film.

The younger teens

This movie was about a younger set of teens, the post adolescent set of teens to be exact. It involved flashbacks to the characters being their young selves the present day when they are older and wiser. They discover things about growing boobs, looking at boys' wieners, divorce, tragic, untimely death of family members, and much more. It's relatable for all of us to watch because there is at least one situation that all of us have been through. Oh to be young.

Knowing is half the battle

Here we have yet another slasher about a bunch of teens, drinking and driving, and an unfortunate car accident leading to the death of a fisherman. So they think anyway. After not reporting the incident, strange things begin to happen and slowly the teens start dying in horrific ways. It was another one of those movies that scared us half to death and taught us never to drink behind the wheel because what if we were killed in a horrific way by a deranged fisherman?

Graduation night

This movie takes place during only one night—graduation night. The senior party is planning to have an intense rager and everyone is stoked about it. With high school now behind them, everyone seems to now have a lot on their minds. What is in store for the future? Will they fit in at college? What's next? This party is designed to help them burn off a little steam and unwind a little bit, which is why everyone is so excited about it.

Back to school

Oh reunions, when everyone pretends to be someone else or embellishes their lives to be so much better than what it really is. These two blondes were endlessly tormented by their peers, so of course they want to look like they made something of themselves. Unfortunately, their plans doesn't go the way they want it to, but they did get to hang out with some people that actually didn't totally suck after all. It was a movie we all really enjoy more in our older years.

The dark comedy

Inspired by the movie Heathers, Jawbreaker is a dark comedy about the members of a tyrannical high school clique trying to cover up an accidental murder. The manipulation, deception, and backstabbing ends up being much more horrific than the murder itself. Later on, in the 2000s, this movie, and The Heathers, actually ended up inspiring Mean Girls...although Mean Girls didn't have any murder in it like these two movies. But there was a ton of backstabbing and dark elements to the film regardless.

Does it get anymore '90s than naming a movie after a Britney Spears song? No, I don't think so. Let's also take into account the typical plot line of fake dating that turns into real dating. Now who didn't see that coming? After being rejected by the people they wanted to go to the school's Centennial Dance with, both main characters decide to go together and fake a relationship that makes everyone else jealous. Of course there are bumps in the road, but everything works out in the end.

The business owners

They are girls that stick together through thick and thin, and they own a business together that actually ends up being pretty successful. In this movie they end up putting on a summer camp for kids they watch around the neighborhood and although they money doesn't add up to what they want it to be, they still end up having a pretty great summer after all. This movie was created after a very famous book series under the same name.

She's gone

Sue Ellen Crandell is a 17-year-old high school graduate who, due to a lack of funds, cannot go to Europe for the summer with her friends. She is about to head to college in the fall. However, when her mother goes on a vacation to Australia with her boyfriend, Sue Ellen looks forward to an entire summer of freedom with her siblings: slacker/drug addict Kenny, 14-year-old ladies' man Zach, 13-year-old tomboy Melissa, and 11-year-old TV fanatic Walter. Much to Sue Ellen's dismay, her mother hires a live-in babysitter, Mrs. Sturak, a seemingly sweet, humble old woman who assures Mrs. Crandell that she can take care of all five children.

There was a show that came out based on this movie. It is about a girl that fights off vampires, and it isn't a pretty picture either. She doesn't have a clear cut view of who the enemy is because she falls in love with one of the vampires. She is pretty much awesome as she fights them off as a lone wolf, and girls everywhere were inspired to be as strong and independent as this character was, which was pretty cool.

This further isolates the family from the community and heightens the air of mystery surrounding the girls, to the neighborhood boys in particular.

You weren't anyone unless you had a favorite Spice Girl in the '90s. Whether you liked Sporty, Ginger, Posh, Baby, or Scary was a defining moment in your life—people judged you on it. This movie was only about the shenanigans these girls did in their "everyday life." We all knew they didn't have a bus that big and they didn't encounter aliens, but we loved the movie just the same. It was quirky and fun, and we continue to watch it to this day.

One of the squad members gets pregnant and instead of making her feel awful about herself, the squad decided to stick together and help their sister out. how do they go about this you ask? Well, they decided to go about robbing banks to get her the money she needs to raise a kid. Sounds like a great plan right? Yeah, maybe not so much.

Two switched sisters

This is a movie about two sisters and a little bit of magic. The younger sister wants to be her older more popular sister so she wishes to be her one night and wakes up mysteriously switched into her body. Soon, she finds out it's not all it is cracked up to be and both sisters want to switch back into their own bodies. This movie was made for the Disney Channel and it was a huge hit for those who tuned in.

When teachers go wild

One evening at Herrington High School in Ohio, several teachers and Principal Drake leave after discussing the school's budget. When Drake returns to retrieve her keys, Coach Willis becomes increasingly erratic and stabs a pencil through Drake's hand when she attempts to leave. Drama teacher Mrs. Olson emotionlessly stabs Drake with scissors as she flees the school. It was a movie that made the usual good guys become the crazy bad guys, and it freaked out teens that watched it.

The nomads

Fourteen-year-old Vivian Abromowitz's family are penniless nomads, moving from one cheap apartment to another in Beverly Hills in 1976, so that Vivian and her brothers can attend the city's prestigious schools. Their father, Murray, is a divorced 65-year-old who refuses to retire, working as an unsuccessful Oldsmobile salesman whose cars are selling poorly due in large part to the Energy crisis of the time. It was a coming of age movie that was an indie classic and also very emotional to the audience.

A modern day caveman

During the first ice age, a caveman attempts to make fire with his girlfriend. An earthquake causes a cave-in that buries the two of them. This segues into a present-day Los Angeles earthquake that awakens average teenager Dave Morgan. He, along with his best friend Stoney, strives to attain popularity in high school but comes off more as a reject and an outcast. Dave is in love with Robyn Sweeney, a sweet and attractive girl who has been his best friend since grade school, and, until she reached adolescence, had been rejected by Dave on several occasions.

Tracy Flick is an overachieving senior with a secret vindictive and sexual side. Earlier in the year, Tracy had an affair with another teacher, Jim's best friend Dave Novotny. Tracy announces to Jim (who is in charge of organizing the school's student government) that she is running for student body president, telling him they "will be spending a lot of time together." Jim finds Tracy's unbridled ambition and sexual manipulation repugnant.

Originally called Killing Mrs. Tingle, the movie title was changed because it came out right when the Columbine tragedy happened. Tis was a revenge comedy that was all about getting back at the teacher who destroys your life on a daily basis. The students end up confining Mrs. Tingle in her house and after a series of mis-steps, consider just offing her to cover their tracks. Let's be real, we have all had that teacher that has driven us completely nuts.

So much pregnancy

Just as Rachel's latest fling with her married employer ends, she decides to relocate with Charlotte and Kate once again. This time, they move to a new home near a convent in the small town of Eastport, Massachusetts. Charlotte has an unusual obsession with Catholicism, strengthened by her mother's disapproval, and idolizes the nuns living in the convent. Kate, on the other hand, loves all things swimming and is an avid competitor, apparently getting it from Rachel's Olympic one night stand from which she was conceived.

The saga isn't over

The original movie follows teens that were drinking and driving then hit and killed a fisherman along the way. At the end of the killing spree that ensued in that film, they thought they got to the bottom of the problem and solved everything, but boy were they ever wrong. The killing continues in this film and the teens are scared out of their wits about how to get away from this insane killer. It was terrifying for everyone watching too.

On a stormy night at a gas station, a woman named Michelle Mancini fights off an apparent attack by a stuttering attendant. However, he was actually trying to warn her of an attacker in the back seat, and, as Michelle drives off, the attacker in the back seat decapitates her with an axe. Meanwhile, in the student lounge at Pendleton University, coed Parker Riley relates to friends Natalie Simon and Brenda Bates how one of the campus halls, Stanley Hall, had been the site of a massacre in 1973.

On October 29, 1998, twenty years after the explosion at Haddonfield Memorial Hospital, Marion Chambers, Dr. Sam Loomis' former colleague, returns to her home in Langdon, Illinois, to find that it burglarized. Her teenage neighbor Jimmy and his friend Tony call the police. Marion discovers that the file on Laurie Strode, Michael Myers' sister, is missing. She immediately rushes back over to Jimmy's house, where she finds him and Tony dead. Michael Myers suddenly appears and attacks Marion before slitting her throat, killing her. Just when we thought Michael Myers was gone.

This was one of the first triumphs in America about coming out as a lesbian, so hats off to that. It is about a girl, Megan, that struggles with her sexuality and once her parents find out about it they ship her off to conversion therapy camp to basically "prey the gay away." This was a brave movie put out during a time when it was even scarier than today to come out as gay, so props to them for this one.

Taking place in the '70s, this movie involves some serious scandal during the Nixon years, namely the Watergate Scandal. Two ditzy blondes somehow get very politically active after taking some time off from their boy craziness ways. It's a funny satire about the political system and how easy it is for pretty much anyone to become part of it if they really want to be. These girls became politically active pretty much overnight without any experience whatsoever, so why can't anyone, right?

Misbehaving in boarding school

This movie is set in the '60s and deals with all kinds of crazy themes. Girls will be girls, right? In the beginning Gabby Hoffman gets in trouble for plotting to have sex with her boyfriend, so she is sent to a boarding school to teach her the right way. Well, she finds a whole bunch of ways to get herself into some trouble while she is there. As she meets up with a group of similarly jaded young ladies.

Trapped all alone

This movie looks like it would be a scary one, but it is actually a drama. The main character is left in a castle all alone after his creator dies of a heart attack. He is not complete so his hands are made of scissors. A makeup sales woman finds him and brings him to her house to live, and that is when all of the craziness ensues. He does not fit in well with the neighborhood and he is eventually kicked back up to his castle.
