There's No Way You Can Match These Scenes To The 90s TV Series

Are you a fan of '90s TV? It's the decade that brought us classic sitcoms like Seinfeld and Frasier, that launched a new crop of genre series like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and that kept people talking when TV gossip was still around an actual water cooler, not on social media. The series of this decade are a little softer than modern TV, in some ways... and not just in terms of high definition! Sex and gore were certainly toned down, or at the very least kept for the late night stuff, but that doesn't mean that these series didn't deal with hard hitting topics. Teen shows covered everything from drugs to rape, while more adult fare looked at sex, sexuality, discrimination and addiction.

Some might think that these shows haven't always aged well - since Friends has appeared on Netflix, fans are noticing some seriously problematic plotlines and jokes that just don't fly today... but nostalgia keeps drawing us back in. Sitcoms without cellphones, jokes that are so old they are famous catchphrases and even memes, characters that feel like old friends - '90s shows come with a dollop of warm and fuzzy nostalgia that just make them a lot of fun. But how well do you know these shows? Well enough to identify the series from a single scene (or short-lived story)? Take our quiz to discover how big a fan of '90s TV you really are!

Question 1

Jessie Has a Caffeine Freak Out

Originally, this scene was going to be in a storyline about speed, but the powers that be ended up deciding to tone it down... which led to an overworked, overachieving Jessie getting addicted to caffeine pills. Question 2

Someone Gets Trapped In An ATM Vestibule With Jill Goodacre

Blackouts used to be very different in the '90s, with no smart phones to keep people busy when they were stuck somewhere... so when one of the characters from this show finds himself stuck in an ATM vestibule with the gorgeous Victoria's Secret model Jill Goodacre, there's nothing for them to do but make awkward conversation. And boy, does he make things awkward! 'Gum would be perfection'? Smooth moves, Chandler. We would expect nothing else from the gang in this '90s show.

Question 3

TV's First Lesbian Sex Scene

These days, it's not that unusual to see LGBT+ couples on the small screen, but back in the '90s, these were few and far between. There were a few smooches, of course, but this series has the honor of the first official lesbian sex scene, when Kennedy is meant to be sleeping on her housemate's floor when there are too many people staying there... but the two have some real chemistry, and she ends up crawling into Willow's bed for the night.

Question 4

No Soup For You!

Question 5

A Break Up On A Post-It

There are plenty of break ups and make ups in the world of '90s TV, but this has to be one of the most famous - and most callous! Of course, he then ruined it by leaving in the morning, with just a post-it on the table to dump his girlfriend, Carrie.

Question 6

The Most Heartbreaking Father-Son Talk In TV History

This series was known for tackling some hard-hitting issues (which isn't actually that rare for '90s TV), so this is far from the only heartbreaking moment. However, when Pacey finally confronts his horrible, neglectful father, things get very, very real... not least because his father isn't able to respond because he is passed out drunk at the time. It perfectly sums up everything about their relationship, and the heartbreak of Pacey giving voice to the things he will never say when his father can hear...

Question 7

A Belly Button Piercing For A Crush

This may be one of the most '90s scenes to ever happen in a '90s show, as the lead character went to get a belly button piercing because her alt-boy crush thought that it would look cool... and if there's a single piercing to sum up the '90s, it's the belly button. Of course, after she gets it done, it ends up getting too sore and she takes it out almost immediately after, but it was a short-lived moment of boy-crush craziness.

Question 8

The Butler Won The Lottery

However, Slurm is just so darn delicious that in the end, Fry is still swigging it down.

Question 10

The First Time A Baby Danced

Remember a time before everything was a meme? You might not, but the '90s do... which is what makes the creation of one of the first viral sensations (the dancing baby) all the more noteworthy. Question 12

Joyce's Sudden Death

This series is known for having a high body count, but Joyce's death was one of the most heartbreaking and unexpected. She had been sick, but the writers faked us all out with the assumption that she was fully recovered and our favorite family matriarch would continue to live a happy life... until her daughter comes home one day to find Joyce dead on the sofa. Utterly raw, this showed how people deal with real death, rather than the fantasy-style ends that make up most of the series.

They make a valiant effort, but he ends up doing some light ass-kicking through the entire group...

Question 18

A Sex Scene In A CarWash

This scene was certainly steamy, but it's probably better if viewers don't try this at home! In this series, the lead lawyer is in a car wash when she shares 'a look' with a sexy car wash attendant (which yes, sounds like the start of a porno)... and he then leaps into her car, starts kissing her, they leap out of the car, and they have sex in the actual carwash, so that she shows up to work all wet. (It's basically a porno.)

Question 19

The Birth Of Festivus

When the characters in this show get sick of the commercialization of the holiday season, they decide to create their own tradition to take place on December 23 as an alternative: Festivus. Festivus 'traditions' include the displaying of an undecorated pole, the 'Airing of Grievances', the 'Feats of Strength', and the decision to make anything that happens, no matter how easily explainable, a 'Festivus Miracle'. This holiday tradition may have started as a parody, but this show brought it into homes across the nation.

Question 20

Smith Shaves His Head

When his girlfriend Samantha gets cancer and starts to lose her hair, he sees how upset she is at shaving her head... and decides to support her by shaving his own. Question 23

A Yellow Crayon Saves The World

A whole lot of different things have saved the world over the decades of fantasy TV - but this is the only time that it was something as simple as a yellow crayon. When Willow loses the love of her life, she gives in completely to her powerful spellcasting abilities, and driven mad by grief, decides to end the world rather than live without her love in it. It's only a speech from her oldest friend, about the first time she broke a crayon in kindergarten, that finally stops her.

Someone gets fired over a sandwich

Of all the things to get fired over... when things are going horribly wrong for this character in his personal life, he puts a little too much stock on a thanksgiving leftover sandwich made by his sister.
