There's No Way Anyone's Naming All These Harry Potter Characters In Under 2 Minutes

Although it's been years since a new film was last released, the Harry Potter film franchise is and will likely always remain one of the greatest phenomena to have ever graced our movie screens. Based on the best-selling fantasy books by author J.K. Rowling, these films helped shape us and provided us with an incredible story about wizards and witches battling each other in a fight of good versus bad.

The Harry Potter universe is full of plenty of amazing creatures, spells, objects, and of course, people. After all, what would these movies be without the fantastic characters giving us some of the most incredible performances possible? From Slytherins to Hufflepuffs, Ministry workers to members of the Order of the Phoenix, these are the characters who brought to life the amazing wizarding world of Harry Potter. But with so many characters appearing over the span of eight movies, who can possibly remember all of them?

We believe it'll take a true Potterhead could correctly identify all 35 of these Harry Potter characters. Some of them are a bit more dastardly in nature than others, and some aren't even witches or wizards! It's going to take a true Harry Potter expert to name all of them, so now's the chance for anyone who thinks themselves one to truly test their knowledge once and for all!

Who is this Harry Potter character?

As far as Harry Potter characters go, this one is definitely one of the sweetest. She was first introduced to us in the fifth film, Order of the Phoenix, during a fairly awkward carriage ride to the castle with Ron, Hermione, Harry, and Neville. We learn in this same movie that she and Harry have both witnessed the loss of someone’s life, thus giving them the ability to see the horses pulling the carriages. We also learn that this character has a particular interest in some of the stranger creatures found in the Harry Potter universe, like Nargles. She’s sweet, she’s odd, and she’s a passionate member of Dumbledore’s Army.

This character was introduced to us in the very first Harry Potter movie, The Sorcerer’s Stone. In this film, we learn this character is Harry’s muggle cousin who lives with Harry, as well as with his aunt and uncle. This character was first introduced in the fourth Harry Potter movie, in which she competed in the Twiwizard Tournament as the chosen champion from the visiting French school, Beauxbatons Academy of Magic. Although not especially athletic nor well-versed in spells, this character still made it through the tournament’s various challenges, though sometimes needed some help from her fellow competitors to finish. Although Ron Weasley had a rather big crush on her, this character actually went on to marry one of Ron’s brothers and live happily with him in their cottage far away from the issues surrounding the rest of the wizarding world.

Our first introduction to her was in the third movie when she escaped from Azkaban and able to rejoin the forces of Voldemort’s followers. She is quite the unpleasant woman and is actually a part of Sirius Black’s family tree, though she and Sirius are two very different people. This character was present in the very first scene in the very first Harry Potter movie, where she accompanied Albus Dumbledore in delivering a baby Harry Potter to the doorstep of the Dursley’s. She can be stern at times, and sometimes it seems her face is perhaps permanently set into an unamused scowl. In the fourth Harry Potter movie, this character caught the eye of Harry Potter who began pursuing her in the hopes of escorting her to the Yule Ball. However, one of his fellow Triwizard Tournament competitors beat him to it and took her as his date instead. This character was responsible for many of Harry Potter’s biggest moments in his early life. He personally carried Harry as a baby and drove him to his new home at the Dursley’s residence in the very first movie. This character is first introduced to us in the fourth Harry Potter movie as a professional quidditch player. The Weasley’s, along with Hermione and Harry, attend the match and cheer for this character who Ron later excitedly calls “an artist.” We then see him reappear at Hogwarts as part of the visiting school, Durmstrang Institute. He was chosen as the competitor from this school to participate in the Triwizard Tournament after his name was pulled from the Goblet of Fire. This character first appeared in the sixth Harry Potter film. Dumbledore and Harry paid him a visit at his home and Dumbledore convinced him to come out of retirement and return to Hogwarts to teach Defense Against the Dark Arts. Eventually, he agreed, and returned to the school. He was a bit of an odd character but well-meaning, all the same. He had his favourite students who he regularly invited to dinners and parties, including Harry. As it is revealed in the film, he is also the one who inadvertently gave a young Tom Riddle all the information he needed to begin making his horcruxes which allowed him to become invincible as an adult, something which this professor deeply regrets.

This character technically first made his appearance in the fourth Harry Potter film as the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, but as we learned at the end of that film, he was actually trapped in a chest while Barty Crouch Jr. posed as him. Later, we see this character in the seventh movie as he is leading a team of Order members to appear as Harry while moving him from his home on Privet Drive. They were all transformed to look like Harry so as to throw off any of Voldemort’s followers who might pursue them, which is exactly what happened. Unfortunately, this character wouldn’t make the trip and ultimately perished in the crossfire.

This character first appeared in the third Harry Potter movie as a wanted criminal who somehow managed to escape from Azkaban. Harry, who didn’t know anything about this character before learning of his escape, becomes wary of him and believes the criminal is the one who informed Voldemort of his parents’ location so many years before. However, once he finally meets this criminal, he learns that he was actually a dear friend of James Potter’s and would never have done anything to hurt them. He is also Harry’s godfather and takes on this role, becoming his most passionate protector until he perished in the fifth movie.

This character was the professor of Divination at Hogwarts and made her first appearance in the third Harry Potter movie. She is quite an airy and eccentric woman who teaches her students how to read tea leaves and often describes prophecies. As far as the movies are concerned, not very much is known about this fascinating witch. This character was a Metamorphmagus which allowed her to change her physical appearance at her own free will. She demonstrated this ability during dinner one evening in which she turned her mouth into a duck’s bill, much to Ginny Weasley’s delight. As the movie series progressed, she became more prominent as a member of the Order and one of Harry’s protectors. She was also Lupin’s wife and the mother of his child and could be easily spotted in any scene thanks to her unique, albeit constantly changing, hair colour.

This character’s very first appearance wasn’t until the very last Harry Potter film. In this film, Harry seeks help from an eye he sees in a glass shard, taken from the broken remains of the Mirror of Erised. Although operating under the belief he was somehow communicating with Albus Dumbledore, Harry was surprised to find he had actually been seeking the help of Albus’ brother, whom Harry hadn’t even known existed! This character was Harry’s guardian up until Harry decided to leave his home at Privet Drive once and for all. Although he was every bit the doting father to his son, Dudley, as an uncle this character seriously lacked compassion. He treated Harry like a servant and consistently put him down, always reminding him of how “lucky” he was that he wasn’t out on the streets. Throughout the film series, we see this character remain relatively the same without much growth whatsoever. He becomes more wary of Harry’s magical abilities in the later films and starts to hold his tongue a bit more to avoid having Harry’s wand turned on him.

This character first appeared in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets as an eager and bright-eyed first year student with a penchant for photography and an unyielding admiration for Harry. Throughout the film, this character consistently pops up to snap a photo of the famous boy who lived, even if it means putting himself into situations where he most certainly does not belong. This character didn’t actually appear until the seventh Harry Potter movie where he was introduced to Harry as one of the Weasley brothers he had yet to meet. This Weasley brother also went on to marry the beautiful Fleur Delacour and the two had a wonderful wedding in the seventh movie, as well. This unpleasant looking character was a werewolf who was quite different from the likes of Remus Lupin. Whereas Lupin did his best to nurture his good side while not in wolf form, this character embraced every bit the dark side of his transformation even while he was still human. He is a well-known follower of Voldemort’s and is seen in the seventh Harry Potter movie working with so-called “snatchers” to track down “impure” witches and wizards. He is part of the group who stumble upon Harry, Ron, and Hermione, and who capture them to take to the Malfoy’s manor to await Voldemort’s arrival.

Our first introduction to this character was in the fourth Harry Potter movie, The Goblet of Fire, but we really didn’t meet him until the very end of the film. HE is one of Lord Voldemort’s passionate and loyal followers who disguised himself as a teacher so he could sneak into Hogwarts and ensure Harry was placed into the Triwizard Tournament. It was all a fairly elaborate ruse to result in little success for Voldemort, but this character was still able to successfully feign as a rather grouchy professor for almost an entire year at Hogwarts! Quite the impressive, albeit dastardly, accomplishment.

In the sixth Harry Potter film we met this character, the son of a wealthy and respected family who had bad manners and a cocky air about him. He was a student at Hogwarts the same time as Harry, Ron, and Hermione, and took a particular liking to Hermione who he actively began to pursue. In this film, he also goes out to try for the position of Keeper on the Gryffindor quidditch team but due to Ron’s incredible skills (and perhaps a bit of magical intervention from Hermione), the position ultimately went to Ron. We later see this character at one of Slughorn’s parties where he was looking for Hermione who was actively avoiding him at all cost!
