The turn of the 21st-century brought with it an incredible decade filled with musical hits across every genre and plenty of stars to provide us with endless entertainment. But perhaps the most influential and widest range of artists emerged from the pop music genre, giving us club hits, bubblegum pop, and everything else in between. From the year 2000 until 2009, our radios, televisions, and iPods were graced with hip-swaying beats worthy of video dance parties and MTV music videos we couldn't wait to talk about with our friends.
Some of these artists managed to roll over from the 90s and found continued fame in the new decade, while others were brand new faces to the music scene and managed to make a name for themselves before the decade was up. There might even be a couple who have been able to keep the hits coming well into the 2010s with no sign of slowing down just yet!
2000s pop stars gave us iconic hits that have withstood the test of time and fill us with nostalgic excitement whenever they come on the radio. Anyone who considers themselves an expert on the pop stars that came out of this decade will still probably find it difficult to get a perfect score on this quiz, but we encourage everyone to give it a try anyway.
This star wants us to look "Behind These Hazel Eyes"
This beautiful starlet broke onto the music scene in 2002 and delivered plenty of pop hits including "Break Away", "Since U Been Gone" and "Because of You". During the decade, she released three albums and won a People’s Choice Award, an MTV Video Music Award, and a Grammy Award, just to name a few. Her single, “My Life Would Suck Without You”, broke the record for the biggest jump in the Billboard charts, going from 97 to number one in just a single week!
He's the singer behind the song "Forever"
This Grammy Award-winning singer quickly became a teen heartthrob in the early 2000s with such pop hits as “Kiss Kiss” and “Forever.” His dual talents as both a singer and dancer earned him great critical praise and also comparisons to the King of Pop himself, Michael Jackson. In the latter part of the decade, he expanded his accomplishments to include acting and had a small role in the film Stomp The Yard and even had a recurring role on the television series The O.C!
This artist is responsible for the hit song, "Cry Me a River"
This talented singer-songwriter was once the youngest member of the boy band NSYNC before leaving the group in 2002 to go solo and make it big by himself. Over the course of the decade, this blue-eyed beauty gave us such chart-topping hits as “Rock Your Body” and “What Goes Around…Comes Around.” He also made headlines in 2004 during the Super Bowl halftime show when he accidentally tore the outfit of his co-performer, Janet Jackson, on stage in what has become an iconic wardrobe malfunction.
She's got no time for "Womanizers"
This Mickey Mouse Club alumni found success with the release of her first single, “…Baby One More Time” in 1998 and continued pumping out the hits well into the 2000s. Some of her other famous songs include “Oops!... I Did It Again”, “I’m a Slave 4 U”, and “Toxic.” This Southern charmer experienced her fair share of drama in the latter half of the decade but managed to bounce back with the release of a brand new album and even more chart-topping hits, like “Womanizer” and “Circus.”
There "Ain't No Other Man" for this pop star
This blonde beauty singer is responsible for such 2000s pop hits as “Candy Man”, “Keeps Getting’ Better”, and the misfit anthem, “Beautiful”. She lent her incredible vocals to the cover of “Lady Marmalade” in 2001 and briefly adopted an edgier alter ego stage persona for her new album tour before returning to her roots with the album “Back to Basics.” This powerhouse performer has won numerous awards was also named the 20th most successful artist of the 2000s by Billboard!
He just wants our "Beautiful Soul"
This singer released his debut album “Beautiful Soul” in 2004 which reached number 15 on the Billboard top 200 tracks. He’s won multiple Teen Choice Awards and Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, and has hit the top of the charts with such songs as “Right Where You Want Me” and “Leavin’.” With his golden hair and dazzling smile, it wasn’t hard for this artist to quickly become a teen heartthrob. In addition to music, he’s also a talented voice actor and has lent his pipes to the film franchise Alvin and the Chipmunks as Theodore.
She's "Glamorous"
This singer-songwriter is both a successful solo artist and also a part of the popular musical group, The Black Eyed Peas. During the 2000s, she gave us plenty of incredible hits like “London Bridge” and “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” as well as another big song with her name in the title. In 2004 she was named one of People magazine’s “50 Most Beautiful People in the World” and in 2007 she was picked as Woman of the Year by the music magazine Blender.
These guys are "Burning Up"
This pop-rock band was formed in 2005 and quickly became teen idols with their boyish good looks, charm, and hit singles like “S.O.S.” and “Lovebug.” The trio of dark-haired, handsome boys each brought their own talents to the band and enjoyed heartthrob status for the duration of the decade. Not only were they talented musicians, but these guys also made the transition to the big screen with the film series Camp Rock, and then moved to the smaller screen with their own television show.

This singer and musician’s debut album, titled “Songs in A Minor,” went platinum five times over in 2001 and earned her five Grammys, which she then followed up with three more hit albums, all Grammy winners as well! She’s given us plenty of chart-topping tracks, like “No One”, “Fallin’” and “Empire State of Mind.” Known for both her powerful pipes and equally impressive piano skills, this artist has consistently delivered the hits, spanning well beyond the 2000s and into the 2010s.

This singer, widely regarded as the King of Latin Pop, began performing in Spain in the 90s. Near the end of the decade and the beginning of the 2000s, he crossed over into the English music market and released several hit albums, delivering such tracks as “Hero” and the song “Do You Know?” This handsome Latin musician has stolen hearts from all around the world with his love ballads, often performed in both English and Spanish, and has won more than 200 awards for his music!
These women gave us the hit song, "Don't Cha"
This all-female musical group was formed in the early 2000s through an open audition which would see its members become one of the most iconic groups of the decade. Throughout the decade, this group released several hit songs, including “Don’t Cha" and “When I Grow Up.” They were one of the top-selling artists in 2006 and were ranked 100th on VH1’s 100 Greatest Women in Music. While the group has seen different members come and go, they stayed consistent with the hits throughout the 2000s.
She's the singer who asked us all "So What?"
This edgy singer is known for her don’t-care attitude and impressive vocal range. Since hitting the music scene in 2000, she spent the rest of the decade churning out chart-topping hits like “Stupid Girls”, “So What” and “Don’t Let Me Get Me.” VH1 ranked this artist number 10 on their list of the 100 Greatest Women in Music and was the second most-played female solo artist in the UK during this decade, coming in just behind Madonna. Her rocker chick looks and cropped hair give make her a pop culture icon.
This star is "Sick and Tired"
This singer-songwriter began performing in the 90s and found continued success in the 2000s with such hits as “Paid My Dues”, “You’ll Never Be Alone” and “One Day in Your Life.” A small statured woman with a powerful set of pipes, she’s often been referred to as “The little lady with the big voice.” She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2003 and took this time off from recording music to write a number of incredibly raw numbers for her next album and introduced the world to her new, edgier vocals.

This doe-eyed singer is best known for her pop hits like “If We Ever Meet Again”, “Waking Up In Vegas” and “Hot n Cold.” While she started performing earlier in the decade, it was the release of her second album that skyrocketed her to stardom in 2008. She quickly established herself as a powerhouse artist when her controversial single “I Kissed a Girl” reached number one on the Billboard top 100 charts. In 2008 she hosted the MTV Europe Music Awards where she also won the award for Best New Act. The rest is history!

This actress and singer began performing on the big screen before transitioning to the music scene at the end of the 90s. Beginning in the early 2000s, she proved herself an incredible performer when her self-titled album debuted at No. 1 on the pop charts. Not only did she continue churning out incredible hits like “Ain’t it Funny,” “I’m Real” and “Love Don’t Cost a Thing,” she also continued to appear in hit films like Maid in Manhattan and The Wedding Planner.

This singer and dancer first began writing songs for various artists like Lil Wayne and Sean Kingston before formally joining the music scene himself in 2009 with the single, “Whatcha Say.” In August it debuted at number 54 on the Billboard top 100 chart, and by November it had reached number one. Coming off this incredible success, he released his second single “In My Head” that same year which debuted at 63 on the 100 chart before eventually reaching number five.
She told us all about a "Sk8er Boi"
This punk-pop princess released her debut multi-platinum album “Let Go” in 2002, featuring such hit singles as “Complicated” and “Sk8er Boi” which sold more than 15 copies worldwide. Known for her skater style, multi-colored hair and unapologetic persona, this artist saw immense success throughout the 2000s. Near the end of the decade, she released her 2007 album “The Best Damn Thing” in which she also introduced a new vocal and personal style. Her sassy single “Girlfriend” hit the right notes and landed in the Top 10!

This iconic boy band first rose to superstardom in 1999 with their album “Millennium” and rode its success into the 2000s before releasing their next album, “Black and Blue.” These artists continued to be teen heartthrobs and stole the hearts of fans everywhere with such hits as “Shape of My Heart,” “The Call” and “Just Want You to Know.” Each member brought a sound as unique as themselves and came together to create beautiful harmonies that sold out arenas around the world.

This singer has sold over 40 million records worldwide. Her very first album debuted in the year 2000 and saw immense critical and commercial success, with two singles climbing to top 10 on the Billboard top 100 chart: “I’m Like a Bird” and “Turn Off the Light.” Her other hit songs include “Promiscuous”, “Say it Right” and “Maneater.” She has said she loves to experiment with different musical genres and sounds! By the end of the decade, this artist had won multiple awards, including a Grammy and three Much Music Video Awards.

This unique singer and songwriter first started performing in 2008 with her debut album “The Frame.” Her singles “Just Dance” and “Poker Face” quickly reached number one on the charts in America, Australia, Canada and in the UK with “Poker Face” becoming the world’s top-selling single of 2009. Known for her vocal range, off-beat style, and misfit anthems, this artist quickly became one of the biggest names in pop. Although she hit the music scene late in the 2000s, she’s brought her incredible success well over into the 2010s.

This multi-platinum artist first made her start as part of the all-female musical group, Destiny’s Child, during the 90s and into the 2000s. After making a name for herself, this singer released her first solo album, Dangerously in Love, in 2003. Her songs “Irreplaceable”, “Crazy in Love” and “Single Ladies” are just among her many chart-topping hits released during the 2000s that helped make her the iconic music legend she is today. In addition to music, she’s also a talented actress and appeared in the 2006 film Dreamgirls alongside Jennifer Hudson.

This musical group is composed of five members who all first came together in the 90s before achieving superstardom in the 2000s. Their debut album, Songs About Jane, peaked at number six on the Billboard top 200 chart before eventually going platinum in 2004. Their songs include such hits as “She Will Be Loved,” “Makes Me Wonder” and “Wake Up Call.” Since first hitting the music scene, this group has won three Grammy Awards and three People’s Choice Awards, just to name a few.

This singer and actress is perhaps best known for living the best of both worlds as a television actress and singer while assuming the fictional persona of Hannah Montana in the 2000s. Later in the decade she shook loose from her Disney Channel image and released her own music, including the songs “Ready, Set, Don’t Go”, “See You Again” and “Party in the USA.” Her Hannah Montana movie soundtrack, which included the song “The Climb,” made this star the youngest performer in history to have not one, but four number one albums on the chart!
This group is just too "Bootylicious"
This all-female group first achieved fame at the end of the 90s before skyrocketing to stardom in the beginning of the 2000s. Their hit songs include “Say My Name,” “I’m a Survivor” and “Say My Name.” After a brief hiatus, the band came back together in 2004 to record their fourth and ultimately final studio album, Destiny Fulfilled, which featured such hits as “Lose My Breath”, “Soldier”, and “Girl.” Although they eventually disbanded for good, this girl group left its incredible legacy on pop music of the 2000s!
She's always hanging out under her "Umbrella"
This singer from Barbados made her musical debut in 2003 but didn’t see commercial success until the release of her second album, A Girl like Me, in 2006. She had several chart-topping songs on this album, including such hits as “Unfaithful,” SOS” and “We Ride.” This artist went on to release a third album in 2007 featuring the smash hit track, “Umbrella,” featuring Jay-Z, which topped the Billboard charts. This song would also give the singer her very first Grammy Award!
This is the pop star behind "I Want Candy"
This singer first rose to fame in the late 90s as a pre-teen pop sensation and found continued success into the 2000s with his second self-titled album which included the hit song, “I Want Candy.” This blond-haired cutie was the love of teenage girls everywhere during the 2000s and even completed a cameo appearance on his then-girlfriend, Hilary Duff’s, television show Lizzie McGuire. After 2002, this singer left the recording studio and wouldn’t return until 2018, making his album, Another Earthquake!, his last one released in this decade.

This band was considered emo-pop and first rose to fame in 2007 with the release of their self-titled album. Their breakout song would be the single “Shake It” which was released in 2008 and made it to No. 10 in the Billboard top 100 charts. The song would go double-platinum and helped the album reach No. 39 in the Billboard top 200. Although this group would eventually disband by 2010, they saw great success at the end of the 2000s and even contributed a song to the Alice in Wonderland soundtrack.

This singer saw fantastic commercial success in the 90s and revamped her image for the new decade after receiving Billboard’s Artist of the Decade Award in 1999. Her 2005 album included such hits as “We Belong Together,” regarded as a personally redefining song for the artist. She could go on to release more chart-topping hits, like “Touch My Body” from her eleventh studio album, E=MC2, released in 2008. She’s sold over 200 million albums worldwide and is the third best-selling female artist of all time.
She's "Bleeding Love"
This singer began pursuing music in 2001 and won the third series of the UK reality music show, The X Factor, in 2006. Her debut album titled Spirit topped the UK charts and produced such tracks as “Forgive Me.” This album would go on to sell 9 million copies worldwide and became the fourth best-selling album of the 2000s. Her single “Bleeding Love” entered the Billboard top 100 chart at No. 85 in 2008 before peaking at number one where it remained for four non-consecutive weeks!

This singer-songwriter first achieved fame with the release of his second album in 2005 which earned him a Grammy Award nomination. His next album, titled We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things., featured the lead single “I’m Yours” which became this artist’s first Top 10 hit on the Billboard top 100 charts in 2008. It would go on to spend a total of 76 weeks on the top 100, a record which wasn’t topped until 2014. Some of his other hit songs include “Make It Mine” and “Lucky.”

Their second album, Hook Me Up, featured the hit single “Untouched” which became an international top ten hit in 2007. The song earned these two four nominations at the ARIA Awards in 2008 where they also performed the smash hit!

Its single, “Yeah!”, peaked at number one on the Billboard top 100 charts with “Burn” also topping the list. This boy band dominated the teen pop scene of the late 90s and saw continued success well into the new decade with the release of their second album, No Strings Attached, in 2000. Their dance track “Bye Bye Bye” landed in the top of the charts and is widely considered to be the band’s most popular number to date. Other popular singles from these boys include “It’s Gonna Be Me,” “Pop” and “Girlfriend.” Although they broke up in 2002, this group remains one of the most successful pop performers to come out of the 2000s!

This pop star rose to fame as the title character on the Disney Channel television series, Lizzie McGuire, and made the transition to music in the early 2000s. Her second studio album, Metamorphosis, released in 2003, reached the top of the Billboard 200 chart and sold over five million copies worldwide. Some of her most successful singles include “Come Clean,” “Wake Up” and “So Yesterday.” She won the 2004 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Award for Favorite Female Singer and finished off the decade with such movies as A Cinderella Story, Cheaper By the Dozen, and Raise Your Voice.

This band is known for their blend of emo-pop and rock music released music throughout the 2000s but didn’t see true fame until the release of their album Riot! in 2007. They were nominated for Best New Artist at the 50th Annual Grammy Awards and released such hits as “Misery Business” and “That’s What You Get.” The album went platinum within just 13 months of its release. The band also contributed two songs to the best-selling Twilight soundtrack, released in 2008.
