While many TV series and films gave us a view of Clark Kent as Superman in Metropolis, Smallville focused on Kent's formative years in the town where he grew up. We see him fight to keep his powers a secret from the world at first, and then learn how to fight against forces of evil. In the meantime, Clark has to maintain his relationship with a special someone, meet someone who tells him things about his future that he doesn't like, and learn to control his abilities.
Then again, others were enthralled by the swoon-worthy actor who played Superman in Smallville, but that resulted in the comics reaching an entirely new and unexpected audience, right? From 2001 to 2011 the show also changed with our changing world and technology. It even surprised some critics when it became North America's longest-running science fiction series. Plus, the show won its share of accolades, including several Emmy awards. Spin-off novels and comics also followed, and Smallville is said to have influenced the British TV show, Merlin.
