The Avengers is an elite team of special humans (and Gods) who have enhanced abilities that make them supreme defenders of Earth. They were put together by the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. who knew Earth needed only the best to protect the world from new threats. The original team consisted of Captain America – a scrawny kid from Brooklyn who was finally drafted into the army though the super-solider program. He was injected with the serum that gave him superhuman strength and agility – making him the perfect war soldier. Iron Man was also a member of the original team. Hawkeye, who never missed with an arrow was recruited along with Black Widow, a master assassin who had worked for many individuals around the globe.
