Television shows are undeniably one of the most common forms of visual entertainment. A show can be even more popular when it has more than one season because it allows the show to dig deep into the main characters, and offer back stories or arcs which shaped them into who they are in the show. In fact, there are a number of shows featured in this quiz which have over ten seasons to date. Although all have a particular storyline, whether it be dealing with a new surgery for the medical dramas, working on a case for procedural shows, or dealing with another supernatural creature in the fantasy worlds, these shows would be nothing without their characters.
For the most part all of the characters listed play a protagonist role or are at least essential to the overall plot of the show. There is also quite the diversity in the shows we've selected, from teen fantasies to superhero adaptations and even the classic sitcom here and there. Regardless of the genre, each character plays an important role. For those who have a habit of switching on the television every night, or binge watching the latest TV series on Netflix this quiz should be a breeze!
Ted Mosby
The name of this TV character is Ted Mosby and he plays a main role on a popular comedy series. The story line of this show is quite unconventional to some others for its told primarily in flashbacks; this character, the narrator, is relaying his life to his children. The premise of the show is that the younger version of this character is trying his best to find the love of his life, but has had many unsuccessful attempts along the way.
Meredith Grey
The name of this character is Meredith Grey and she is one of the main protagonists of this medical drama. At the beginning of the series this character is merely a resident intern who still has much to learn in the medical field. She becomes close friends with a number of the other interns, some of which who become her roommates. One of her most memorable relationships was with surgeon at the same hospital, where the two eventually get married and have children.
Daenerys Targaryen
The name of this character is Daenerys Targaryen and she is one of the many main protagonists of the dark fantasy television series. At the very beginning she is a woman who is one of the last in her lineage, and is forced into a marriage to form an alliance with her brother's army and the Dothraki's. She comes a long way from being the puppet for her brother, earning her own name and somewhat instilling despair into her enemies because of the fact she is the Mother of Dragons.
Michael Scott
This name of this character is Michael Scott and he was one of the main protagonists of a sitcom television series. He played the role of Regional Manager during his time on the show, and was definitely an unconventional boss to say the very least. He believed himself to be quite humorous, although not all of his employees understood or agreed with the things that he found funny. Notorious for causing mayhem in the workplace, Michael had a habit of calling ridiculous group meetings about anything and everything.
Abby Scuito
The name of this character is Abby Scuito and she is a supporting character on a very popular procedural investigation show. In terms of personality, Abby is one of those people who is a bit odd but everyone is generally accustomed to her weird behavior. Randall Pearson

Due to the fact that the show consists of many flashbacks from when he was both a child and a teenager, there are three "versions" of this character as well as his siblings. In present day he is played by this actor as an adult. His origin story is that he was just an infant when he was brought to the hospital where his parents adopted him after losing one of their three babies.
Daryl Dixon
The name of this character is Daryl Dixon and he's one of the main protagonists of this post apocalyptic television series. He was introduced in the first season as one of the few survivors of the time during the breakout of the zombie apocalypse, and was an excellent addition to the team because of his wilderness skills. Although he is known to be a bit rough around the edges, and it took him a while to open up to the group, he quickly became a part of their little family.
Sookie Stackhouse
The name of this character is Sookie Stackhouse and she was one of the main protagonists of this dark fantasy television series. She is one of the more unusual fantasy characters in term of the series which is predominately made up of vampires. However, Sookie is known as a "Halfling" where she is part human and part fairy. With her power comes a bunch of different abilities, including telepathy in which she can hear people's darkest thoughts, and she also has photokinesis.
Chandler Bing
The name of this character is Chandler Bing and he was one of the main protagonists of this sitcom television series. He is introduced in the pilot episode with all of the other characters, who all have different struggles as they enter adulthood. He is known for being the funny guy in the group, often offering snide and sarcastic remarks in almost every scene. In addition to this he is also characterized as having troubles in the romantic part of his life.
Shaun Murphy
The name of this character is Shaun Murphy and he is the main protagonist of this serious medical television series. He works as a hospital resident in the show and his known for his excellent abilities to be able to accurately diagnose every patient he comes across. Despite his high intelligence in the medical field he faces struggles like many people do, however his happens to be because of his autism, which is brought up many times throughout the series.
Barry Allen
The name of this character is Barry Allen and he is the main protagonist of this fantasy superhero television series. Initially he is depicted as a young crime scene investigator when suddenly he is gifted with a superhuman ability - immeasurable speed. He's not the only one who gains power on the show, and he's certainly not the only one who uses it for good. In between his actual work as a CSI, most of his assignments incorporate some new villain.
Emma Swan

In the pilot episode she's a single bails bond person who has no family and no real ambition in life. Sheldon Cooper
The name of this character is Sheldon Cooper and he is one of the main protagonists of this sitcom television series. In the first few seasons he's characterized as an intelligent scientist whom has poor social skills and tends to be annoying to everyone, especially his roommate. In more recent seasons however its clear he's worked on not only his behavior but his ability to connect with others; this is how he's not only living with someone other than Leonard but is married now too.
Jax Teller
The name of this character is Jax Teller and he was one of the main protagonists of this biker based television series. In the beginning episodes this character is portrayed as being a bit of a troublemaker, having grown up in the motorcycle club lifestyle with his mother and stepfather. He made his living working at their auto repair shop, and spent all of his remaining time as the VP of the club. As the series progressed he eventually gets promoted, where he takes on a heavy amount of responsibility not many are equipped to handle.
Lorelai Gilmore
The name of this character is Lorelai Gilmore and she is one of the main protagonists of this family comedy television show. She was just a teenager when she gets pregnant with her only daughter, Rory. However, having always disagreed with her parents lavish and rich lifestyle she decides to move to a small town where she raised her daughter by herself. The townspeople are nearly just a quirky as she, and become her new family who all helped raise her child.
Bjorn Lothbrok

He is a student at the school among some of the other major characters in this tv show, initially characterized as the love interest to one of them. He definitely is considered to be the bad boy to some, and he carries around a baseball bat to defend himself against all of the weird and unnatural things that happen in town.
Derek Shepherd

He is introduced in season one as one of the newest hires (although had much experience in the medical field). At the beginning of this series this character turns sixteen where she discovers she has magical abilities due to the fact that she comes from a long line of powerful witches. Her two aunts whom she lives with are also witches, both being over five centuries old. Being that she is still just a teenager, Sabrina has to face many challenges in order to fully grasp her powerful magic.
Dean Winchester
The name of this character is Dean Winchester and he is one of the main protagonists of this dark fantasy television series. In the beginning of the series he is depicted as being a bit of a moody and sometimes negative person, and doesn't have the best relationship with his younger brother. However, both are called into action to resume the family business of hunting demons and creatures just like their father did. Dean, being the eldest had endured many different forms of trauma to save his baby brother.
Brooke Davis
The name of this character is Brooke Davis and she was one of the many main characters of this high school television series. Brooke is the best friend to only of the other girls on the show, who definitely didn't have the best influence on her. As the series progresses however she forms new friendships with those who actually care about her; this brings her to focus less on partying and more about her future. Eventually she ends up owning a major clothing store which gains her significant popularity.
Phil Dunphy
The name of this character is Phil Dunphy and he plays a major role in this sitcom television series. He is father of three children and is happily married to his wife. He is depicted as being a bit dorky, with the belief that he's a retro/cool parent, even though his children don't necessarily think so. He's also definitely not the authoritative parent, for he's not one to discipline his kids. He also has a bit of a childish demeanor, for example, his very competitive nature.
Jake Peralta
The name of this character is Jake Peralta and he is one of the protagonists of this comedy series. Despite the fact that he is a detective the plot is mainly based around the humor of the characters rather than the seriousness of the people he deals with. He is known for being a bit of a jokester, which leads to some of the other characters questioning his abilities to be a respectable detective. Jughead Jones
The name of this character is Jughead Jones and he is one of the main characters (and also the narrator in some episodes) of this dark high school television series. He is a bit of a gloomy, or edgy character, at least in the beginning of the series. He ran away from his father's legacy for as long as he could, not wanting to be a Serpent in his father's gang. However, when he realizes the Serpents are a brotherhood, he joins and eventually becomes their Serpent King.
Serena Joy
The name of this character is Serena Joy and plays a major role in this dystopian future-set television series. Previous to the lifestyle and government authority where some women are seen as only useful for bearing children, Serena was quite vocal about her belief of women's rights. However it was at one of these events that she lost her ability to conceive. Fast forward and her family becomes one of the many who has their own women to conceive a child for them.
Jon Snow
The name of this character is Jon Snow and he is one of the main characters from this dark fantasy television series. This character has quite a confusing origin story due to the fact that his true identity had been kept under wraps for so long and from so many, including himself. He was raised by his uncle as an illegitimate son, but would eventually learn of his lineage, which was quite powerful. After leaving his duties from the Night's Watch, Jon becomes reacquainted with family, which included the Mother of Dragons.
Kara Zor-El
The name of this character is Kara Zor-El and she is the main protagonist of this fantasy superhero television series. She also has a cover name, where she is known as Kara Danvers so that her true Kryptonian name may never be known. She was intended to be the caretaker of her cousin, Kal-El, however upon arriving on planet Earth the two are separated and forced to grow up apart. By day she is merely a reporter and by night she is doing what she can to protect humans from harm.
April Ludgate
The name of this character is April Ludgate and she is one of the main protagonists of this sitcom television series. At the beginning of the series April is merely an intern working for a company she had no interest in. For the most part, she is characterized as being a bit rude, or at least bleak and unapproachable to her coworkers. As the series progresses, she begins to develop a crush on a character, and ends up taking on more work just so she can spend time with him.
Clay Jensen
The name of this character is Clay Jensen and he is the main protagonist of this very serious but groundbreaking television series. The setup of this show is quite unique for the narrator is portraying the thoughts and feelings of a character whose life was taken in a tragedy, a character whom he had feelings for. Although he is made away of her decisions through the form of tapes left behind by her, their relationship meant a great deal to her, and he is affected greatly when she is gone.
Clarke Griffin
The name of this character is Clarke Griffin and she is one of the main protagonists of this post apocalyptic television series. At the beginning she is among the many teenagers who are sent down to earth in order to see if its habitable. After missiles had nearly erased the earth centuries prior, they were believed to be the last of the human race. However, Clarke and her friends discover they're not alone, and without any "adults" to protect them, she and bad boy Bellamy become the group's leaders.
Derek Hale
The name of this character is Derek Hale and he is a major character on the fantasy television series. In the first few episodes he is depicted as mysterious and at times dangerous, and the main characters believe him to be a suspect of something. When the main character is turned into a werewolf they actually think he's responsible; however, it is revealed that he was turned by this character's uncle, who was a vicious alpha. Over the seasons this character offers his knowledge and expertise on the supernatural world.
Abed Nadir
The name of this character is Abed Nadir and he plays a major role on this sitcom television series. This character is one of the many students of the local college (which all form a study group) that allows them to get to know each other. He has a bit of a saddening childhood, which involves the lacking of substantial parental influence. Although he was meant to be taking classes to gain knowledge in the business world, he makes the decision to pursue something he actually has an interest in.
Monica Geller
The name of this character is Monica Geller and she is one of the main protagonists of this sitcom television series. She is depicted as being a bit of a neat freak in the sense that everything has to be in the right place, done according to her standards, and always adheres to her strict schedule. Although her traits are often mocked by her friends, she does become the "mother" of the group and is always available for advice on practically anything.
Oliver Queen
The name of this character is Oliver Queen and he is the main protagonist of this fantasy superhero television series. From the beginning this character is depicted as being a bit irresponsible because of the fact he is extremely wealthy. However, after surviving five years stranded from a shipwreck, he returns to the city seeking vengeance. He spends most of his time tracking down people who are unkind in society, and carries out the justice they deserve for their actions.
Caroline Forbes
The name of this character is Caroline Forbes and she is one of the major characters in this teen fantasy television series. Before she is turned into a vampire Caroline is known for being a little high maintenance and often times rude to those she believes inferior to herself. However, after she is bitten and turned all the parts of herself that no one really liked seems to fade away and becomes quite confident and in control. In fact, she's one of the strongest vampires in terms of self control.
Jace Herondale
The name of this character is Jace Herondale and he is one of the main characters of this teen fantasy television series. Jace comes from a very unique race of human, where he is half human and half angel. He is a protector of the humans from the supernatural world, mostly demons, which he and his adoptive siblings are trained to hunt. Before bumping into Clary, who at the time had no idea what she was, he was quite reserved and had a hard time opening up to those he cared about.
Harvey Specter
The name of this character is Harvey Specter and he is one of the main protagonists of this television series about a legal firm. Being that he is the main protagonist, much of the show revolves around him and the fact that he's working at a prestige law firm after being recently recruited. Little does anyone know that his newest hire, his associate attorney does not have the proper credentials to be in his position, which both work to keep a secret from everyone else.
Kate Beckett
The name of this character is Kate Beckett and she is one of the main protagonist of this investigation based television series. At the beginning of the series Kate works as an investigator. From the first episode this character has to form a partnership with a novelist who writes mystery books. Their partnership is not exactly conventional, but with his creative mind weaving stories together and her investigative skills, they're able to solve a whole lot of mysteries together and even form quite a special bond.
Jim Halpert
The name of this character is Jim Halpert and he is one of the main protagonists of this comedy television series. From the beginning he is depicted as being a bit of a jokester, mostly to his desk mate Dwight who is quite susceptible to pranks. He usually seeks the partnership of Pam, the receptionist who normally doesn't have anything better to do. Little did Pam know that Jim was actually developing feelings for her despite the fact that she was engaged to a warehouse worker.
Arthur Pendragon
The name of this character is Arthur Pendragon and he is one of the main protagonists of this fantasy medieval television series. He is the young prince of a highly respected king, who is known for his prominent hatred for all things associated with magic. Little does Arthur know that the man servant his father hires just so happens to be the greatest sorcerer to have ever walked the earth, although he still had much to learn then. Liv Moore

Prior to her infection, Liv was working as a medical resident and was quite content with her seemingly ordinary life. Regina Mills
The name of this character is Regina Mills and she is one of the main characters on this fantasy television series. For the first couple of seasons this character is known as the antagonist, for her fairy tale character was of course the stepmother to Snow White. However, it becomes evident that the things she did to Snow was out of revenge over the fact that she unintentionally spilled her secret.
