Considering how long the Dragon Ball universe has been around, not to mention how important fighting is within it, it was only a matter of time before every possible combination of Goku’s friends and rivals did battle. Thanks to Akira Toriyama’s expert storytelling, this is by design, with the World Martial Arts tournament introduced very early into the series created entirely so each fighter Goku met had the potential to be his opponent.
Of course, even without the tournament, Goku’s highly combative lifestyle meant he would have fought about 90% of them anyway. Indeed, the majority of battles in the series take place outside of the arena, allowing for countless anything goes wars, whether Goku’s personally involved or not. Depending on personal preferences, battles where the legendary Saiyan sits out might even be best of all.
Believe it or not, despite more than 30 years of existence, there are still a few pairs that haven’t squared off on screen yet, but fans of the show have surely imagined how they would play out once or twice. The only difference from one fan to another is who wins these imaginary battles, and the specific answers generally speak volumes about how people giving them views Goku’s journey in general. Who would win in a fight between Goku and Vegeta?
Being the star of the show, Goku has an incredible number of rivals throughout the Dragon Ball universe. Given their status as the last two full-blooded Saiyans, it could be argued his war with Vegeta is the most personal of all. Who would win if they fought one last time?
Who would come out on top between Majin Buu and Frieza?
Gigantic, obsessed with destruction, and with three forms each more powerful than the last, Frieza and Majin Buu were arguably Goku’s strongest opponents in Dragon Ball Z. While Buu found redemption, Frieza was always bad to the core, which could allow a potential showdown. Who would win if there was?
Who would reign supreme if Krillin challenged Piccolo?
While Piccolo ultimately became one of Goku’s greatest allies, he descended from a creature had who the Saiyan’s best friend, Krillin, killed. This must have lead to some awkward times as those two became close acquaintances, as well. If they couldn’t get over it, who would win in a fight?
Would Tien Shinhan or Yamcha win if they did battle?
Both Yamcha and Tien follow the trend of Goku’s enemies becoming his friends, and they did so with such speed audiences quickly forgot they were ever enemies. As they fought together, the two also became great friends with one another, but if they were to fight, who would win?
Which fighter would win, Future Trunks or Gohan?
Despite the eternal rivalry between their fathers, Gohan and Future Trunks seem to get along in their relatively limited interactions. It’s tempting to picture them forced against one another in a tournament, though, where their dads could get in their ears about how to fight. Who would win?
Who would come out on top between Master Roshi and King Kai?
Never once slowing down with his training, Goku has no shortage of great teachers who mentored him on his path to being Earth’s greatest defender. The two most important are likely Master Roshi, who taught the Kamehameha, and King Kai, innovator of the Spirit Bomb. Who would win between them?
Who would win in a fight between Puar and Oolong?
As two goofy, weirdly voiced animals, Puar and Oolong generally serve as comic relief whenever they appear. This is a little misleading, though, as the two are also extremely skilled shape-shifters, which makes them uniquely talented in the Dragon Ball world. Which of the two is stronger?
Would Android 18 or Cell win if they did battle?
Unlike many of Goku’s enemies, Cell never comes around to the good side. However, one of the other Androids made along with him does, completely shedding her evil to aide the forces of good. And raise Krillin’s children, somehow. In any event, who would win if Cell and Android 18 squared off?
Who would reign supreme if Kami challenged Dende?
As two supremely peaceful beings tasked with overseeing the Earth, it’s hard to imagine either Dende or Kami getting violent unless pushed. Of course, in the Dragon Ball universe, two people having the same job is as good a reason as any to spar. Who would win if they did?
Who would come out on top if Chi Chi battled Bulma?
Typically, when two men have a rivalry, their wives get caught up in the mess, as well. For the most part, Goku and Vegeta’s spouses Chi Chi and Bulma remain friendly, but either one of them could stand up for her man under the right circumstance. Who would win?
Which fighter would win, Goten or Trunks?
Being extremely close in age, Goku’s second son and Vegeta’s first normal son (as in not from the future) were born rivals pretty much from birth. Unlike their fathers, this rivalry was entirely friendly, but they still sparred against one another dozens of times. Who would win one last battle?
Who would win in a fight between Videl and Launch?
Were it not for violent sneezes, the dark haired Launch would never win a fight against anyone. However, transformed into a vicious machine gun toting blonde, she could even handle Gohan’s fiery wife, Videl. Who would win in a fight between the two, assuming there were no sneezes?
Which fighter would win, Android 16 or Chiaotzu?
On first glance, no two fighters seem more different than the tiny pale Chiaotzu and giant, bronzed Android 16. That said, they do have one important thing in common in that they both unsuccessfully tried self-destructing to save the world. Who would survive if they tried it against each other?
Who would come out on top between Mercenary Tao and Dr. Gero?
By and large, any survivors of the Red Ribbon Army that Goku battled as a child continue working together to seek revenge on the legendary Saiyan. Of course, two viciously insane minds like Mercenary Tao and Dr. Gero could easily turn against one another despite prior affiliations. Who would win?
Who would reign supreme if Present Trunks challenged Future Trunks?
Obviously, as the bigger, older, more experienced, and stronger Trunks, conventional wisdom dictates the adult future version of Vegeta and Bulma’s son would easily outclass his childhood counterpart. Then again, a child’s determination is extremely powerful, and the young one remains closer to their father, so who would really win?
Would King Vegeta or King Cold win if they did battle?
As two egomaniacal, destructive warlords, were Frieza’s father King Cold and King Vegeta, leader of the Saiyans, ever to do battle, they’d do it through their armies. Indeed, that’s basically what happens, with Cold’s crew completely annihilating Vegeta’s. Of course, one on one is a different game. Who would win?
Who would win in a fight between Vegeta and Raditz?
While a conk on the noggin when Goku was a child turned him good, his brother Raditz was closer to Vegeta in his desire for destruction and power. Of course, this merely means he may have squared off against his Prince one day if he survived. Who would win?
Which fighter would win, Piccolo or Tien Shinhan?
Back to back finalists in the Worlds Martial Arts tournaments when they debuted, Tien Shinhan and Piccolo surely would have been battling for supremacy were Goku not around. With his guidance, the two gradually found mutual respect for one another, but who’d win if Goku was out of the picture?
Who would come out on top between The Ox-King and Guru?
Believe it or not, despite being two of the physically largest characters in all of Dragon Ball, neither the friendly Ox-King nor Namek’s ruler Guru are particularly violent sorts. Both nonetheless possess incredible power, and could have one heck of a fiery battle in a tournament setting. Who would win?
Who would win the final battle between Goku and Frieza?
Throughout his long journey, Goku fights no less than a half dozen all powerful enemies, yet none are as central to his story as Frieza. A warlord who destroyed Planet Vegeta and murdered Goku’s best friends is truly the face of evil. Who would win one last fight between them?
Who would win in a fight between Krillin and Chiaotzu?
As two tiny, bald, nose-less dudes of average fighting skill, Krillin and Chiaotzu look like they should be kindred spirits. Comically, though, Tien’s telepathic sidekick used these very similarities to insult Goku’s BFF when they first met. They still became friends, but who would win the fight if they didn’t?
Who would reign supreme if Grandpa Gohan challenged Master Roshi?
Prior to meeting Bulma and beginning his journey in earnest, Goku’s only relation was his friendly Grandpa Gohan. Naturally, Gohan taught the young Saiyan his first lessons in battle, with Master Roshi later supplementing in a major way. Before that, Roshi also taught Gohan, so who would win between them?
Who would win in a war between five the Ginyu Force and a group of Cell Jr.’s?
Flashy, goofy, and valuing appearance over skill, Frieza’s Ginyu Force are the exact opposite of their vicious leader. Not so for Cell Jr.’s, which as direct spawns of Cell are pretty much just miniature versions of the android monster. Who would win if these villainous squads did battle?
Would Turles or Bardock win if they did battle?
Two relatively obscure Saiyans best known for their appearances in spin-off movies, Turles and Bardock are nonetheless extremely important figures in Goku’s life. They’re also powerful, as any members of that warrior race would have to be. Would Goku’s father win, or would his mysterious doppelganger take the duke?
Who would win in a fight between Vegeta and Yamcha?
In addition to the fact both have relatively fiery tempers, Yamcha and Vegeta are as natural rivals as any other duo in Dragon Ball for a very good reason. Before Vegeta married Bulma, Yamcha dated her for years, and jealousies could easily develop. Who’d win if they fought over her?
Would Android 18 or Android 17 win if they did battle?
Whether in Goku’s universe or the dystopian landscape occupied by Future Trunks, Androids 17 and 18 are more like brother and sister than two machines in the same production line. This humanity means they’d probably never really fight, but they surely train. Who comes out on top when they do?
Who would reign supreme if Goten challenged Gohan?
Even when Gohan was dressing himself in the ridiculous Great Saiyaman costume, the one kid who had his back was his little brother Goten. Repaying the favor, Gohan trained Goten like their father trained him, ensuring the next generation of Saiyans remain virtuous and powerful. Which of them is stronger?
Who would come out on top between Korin and Yajirobe?
Truth be told, it’s hard to understand why Korin puts up with Yajirobe. Sure, someone needs to help cultivate Senzu beans, but any other helper would probably eat way less of the product than the hefty swordsmen. If Korin ever got upset with his aide, who would win?
Which fighter would win, Fortuneteller Baba or Babidi?
Muscles notwithstanding, size doesn’t always matter in the Dragon Ball universe. Take it from Babidi and Fortuneteller Baba, two pint-sized magicians who use their vast magical powers to influence monstrous fighters to do their bidding. If the two powerful minds did battle, who would survive?
Would Majin Vegeta or Goku Black win if they did battle?
Aside from appearances, Goku Black has no connection to Goku, as he’s merely a villain who stole his body. In contrast, Majin Vegeta is basically just Vegeta with an M on his head, giving in to his most evil tendencies. Even so, if these personas squared off, who would win?
Who would win in a fight between Mr. Satan and Captain Ginyu?
Flamboyant, ridiculous, and more concerned with pomp and circumstance than any sort of actual fighting, Mr. Satan and Captain Ginyu actually have a lot in common. In fact, we’d even suggest the showboat martial artist could stand a survive against Ginyu, unlike everyone else in his world. Do you agree?
Who would reign supreme if Emperor Pilaf challenged Garlic Jr.?
Quite frankly, as two tiny, green, weirdos barely capable of destruction, Garlic Jr. and Emperor Pilaf are the least menacing villains in Dragon Ball. That doesn’t stop them from being effective, as both have enough tricks they become valid threats in their own way. Who would win if they fought?
Who would come out on top between Nappa and Krillin?
Even more so than family members, when two people start a rivalry, their friends inevitably share the feelings of enmity. That’s true with Goku’s bestie Krillin and Vegeta’s right hand man Nappa, especially since the latter never finds redemption like his charge. Who would win if these two fought?
Who would come out on top between Golden Frieza and Beerus?
Being a creature of pure evil, Frieza rarely sees any reason to stop his path of destruction. This is what makes his mild fear of Beerus so shocking, although it doesn’t really effect him much, especially after getting revived in shiny new golden form. Who would win if they fought?
Would Videl or Chi Chi win if they did battle?
As the two most important women in Gohan’s life, and both highly combative figures, one could easily imagine Videl and Chi Chi arguing about some aspect in the poor kid’s life. Gohan might have trouble choosing loyalties between his wife and mother, so who would win if they fought?
Who would win in a fight between Piccolo Jr. and Piccolo Daimao?
Fruit rarely falls far from the tree in Dragon Ball, with families largely sticking together no matter what they go through. That may not be the case for Piccolo and his “father” Piccolo Daimao, as the evil king probably wouldn’t support his reincarnation’s redemption. Who would win if they fought?
Who would reign supreme if Shenron challenged Porunga?
Technically speaking, neither Shenron nor Porunga, the Dragon Gods of Earth and Namek respectively, ever fought a single battle. Nonetheless, they are almost certainly the most powerful beings on their planets, and the driving force behind the entire Dragon Ball universe. Which one do you think is stronger?
Who would come out on top between Champa and Beerus?
Especially in a world based on power like the one in Dragon Ball, twin siblings have a tendency to form a rivalry immediately from birth. That’s definitely the case with Gods of Destruction Beerus and Champa, who never stop fighting, or at least participating in eating contests. Who is stronger?
Which fighter would win, Zeno or Whis?
For as powerful as a God of Destruction like Beerus must be, his martial arts teacher and mentor Whis must posses an even greater strength. The only entity that could possibly surpass the trainer of Gods is the deceptively small and childlike Omni-King, Zeno. Who do you think would win?
Who would win in a fight between Gohan and Goku?
Casual fans of Dragon Ball probably assume Goku is the strongest fighter in the universe, but the legendary Saiyan himself always believed his own sons could surpass him.
