The Harry Potter franchise is undoubtedly the coolest fantasy franchise ever created. J. K. Rowling came up with the ingenious idea for the enthralling magical universe over two decades ago. Weirdly enough, her first draft was rejected by countless publishers before it finally hit the print press.
Obviously, once the novel series was out, it wasn't long before fans in all four corners of the globe were donning their very own Hogwarts scarves and asking their friends which house they thought they belonged to.
Even though the original Harry Potter series has ended a long time ago (the final Harry Potter book came out in 2007 and the last Harry Potter movie was released back in 2011), the hype surrounding the Wizarding World is still there. That kind of makes sense. After all, we were recently treated to a Harry Potter prequel film series and most of us can think of no better way to spend our holidays than visiting a Harry Potter theme park. Furthermore, some of us also host Harry Potter themed parties and even write fan fiction.
Those who can't get enough of all things Harry Potter will love this quiz, for it will match everyone with their magical profession.
Pick a house!
Good news: you can choose the house that you want to be sorted into! So, which house is it going to be? Do you want to be known as a brave Gryffindor, a cunning Slytherin, a brainy Ravenclaw or a kind and loyal Hufflepuff? Gryffindor and Slytherin are without a doubt the two most popular Hogwarts houses. Pretty much everyone wants to be sorted either into Gryffindor or Slytherin. Why? We have no idea. We think that Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws are pretty cool too. Maybe you do too.
Choose a pet.
Every student is allowed to bring one pet with them to school. The most popular pets are obviously owls. They are not only incredibly cute but also very useful. For example, if a student has a pet owl then he or she can use it to send letters to family or friends. Pet rats are also quite common as are pet toads. Pet cats are rare but still acceptable. Those who love dogs are bound to be disappointed though: it doesn't seem like dogs are allowed to be kept as pets at Hogwarts.
If you were a student at Hogwarts you would doubtlessly have a favorite Professor. For example, Harry Potter loved Professor Lupin who taught Defense Against the Dark Arts (albeit for just a year) whereas most Slytherin students liked Professor Snape who taught Potions (mostly because he was also the Head of Slytherin house and always looked out for them). Out of the four professors mentioned above, which one do you think would go on to become your favorite if you were studying at Hogwarts?
Choose a nemesis.
No one wants to have a nemesis but you can't deny that having a nemesis makes your life much more interesting. Imagine if there had been no Draco Malfoy. Harry Potter's life would have been nowhere near as exciting. Your nemesis doesn't have to be a follower of Lord Voldemort. Indeed, your nemesis doesn't even have to be a Slytherin. For example, at one point during the series Ron Weasley's nemesis was a fellow Gryffindor student (who was interested in Quidditch and Hermione).
Pick a magical creature.
Out of the four magical creatures above, which one is your favorite? Dragons are obviously pretty cool but they are also somewhat dangerous. You'd want to be qualified before you try and handle them. Acromantulas are giant spiders. Their appearance is hair-raising so we wouldn't recommend choosing them if you dislike spiders. Basilisks are giant green serpents that can take a person's life by merely looking him or her in the eye. They tend to be bred by Dark wizards and are loyal to those who speak the language of snakes. Finally, Pixies are blue mischief-makers who love to wreak havoc (Daily Break).
Choose a Quidditch position.
Fans of Harry Potter are well aware that Quidditch is a wizarding sport that is played on broomsticks. It is actually the most popular game in the wizarding world and is similar to Muggle football. The aim is to score more points than the team you're playing against. The game ends when a tiny gold ball known as the Snitch is caught. Sometimes the game can go on for days if both teams are not successful in catching the Snitch. It is up to the Seeker's to catch the Snitch. The Keeper guards the goalposts, the Chasers score goals and the Beaters keep the Bludgers away from their team members (Harry Potter Wiki).
Choose a Patronus.
A Patronus is a powerful spirit guardian that can be summoned via a Patronus Charm. According to Harry Potter Wiki, the Patronus Charm is one of the most powerful defensive charms out there. Unfortunately, the spell is also somewhat complicated which means that not every wizard and witch will be able to evoke a spirit guardian. There are two types of Patronuses: a corporeal Patronus and an incorporeal Patronus. A corporeal Patronus has a particular shape whereas an incorporeal Patronus doesn't. Corporeal Patronuses are much more powerful (and naturally, harder to evoke).
Save one character.
The Harry Potter series was amazing but it was also pretty sad. After all, countless characters passed away at one point or another, leaving us in tears. But imagine this: you have the ability to save one character that has passed on. Which character would it be? You can choose one of the four characters mentioned above. We know that you probably want to save all of them. Unfortunately, for the purpose of this quiz you must choose just one.
Choose a best friend.
Everyone needs a best friend, even loners. Harry couldn't have saved the wizarding world if he wasn't friends with Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. They helped him out in times of need (like when he had to locate all of the seven Horcruxes) and they listened to him when he was upset. Out of the four characters above, which one would you like to be your best friend? Take your time when answering this question. There's no rush. The most important thing is that you choose the person closest to your heart.
Choose the best spot in Hogwarts to hangout.
The best place to hangout in Hogwarts is obviously your house's common room. That's where you sleep and where you get to chat with your fellow housemates. However, at times the common room can get loud. Consequently, you might want to look for an alternative hangout spot. Luckily, Hogwarts' castle is huge and there are plenty of abandoned classrooms and unused corridors to retreat to. Not that you'd necessarily want to spend your free time in an empty room, of course. Which is why the choices above are somewhat more conventional.
Join the Order of the Phoenix or Lord Voldemort's followers?
Which would you rather: join the Order of the Phoenix or become one of Lord Voldemort's followers? The way that you answer this question will say a lot about you as a person. If you choose to go with the former option - joining the Order of the Phoenix - you're probably a fair, kind, and loyal individual who does not care whether someone is a Muggle or a wizard. If, on the other hand, you opt for the latter option you probably believe that wizards are superior to Muggles (and you're probably a Slytherin!)
What can be seen in the Mirror of Erised?
In the first Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Harry comes across a mysterious mirror that is propped up against the wall in an abandoned classroom. He glances at it and is surprised by the reflection. He becomes obsessed with the mirror and goes back to it almost every single day until Professor Dumbledore talks to him about it. What was it that Harry saw in the mirror? Or, to be more specific, what does the Mirror of Erised show?
Choose a wand core.
Before you make your way down to Hogwarts you need to go shopping for school supplies. In addition to purchasing school books and other necessities such as parchment paper, quills and potion ingredients, every first year student also needs to buy a wand. The only place you can get equipped with a wand in Great Britain is at Ollivanders, a cozy shop located in Diagon Alley. Ollivander is known as a master wand maker so you are in good hands!
What are the names of the four witches and wizards who founded Hogwarts?
According to Harry Potter Wiki, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is a wizarding school that is located in the Scottish Highlands. Its students come from Great Britain and Ireland. The exact location of Hogwarts can never be uncovered because it was made unplottable. Furthermore, it looks like an abandoned castle to Muggles. Founded sometime in the 10th century, Hogwarts is deemed to be one of best wizarding schools in the world. But what are the names of the four famous men and women that founded Hogwarts?
Choose a spell.
Is there anything more exciting than learning new spells? Probably not. After all, what good is your wand if you don't know how to use it, right? First year Hogwarts students learn spells and charms in charms class which is led by the eccentric Professor Flitwick. Charms is actually a core class which means that everyone has to take it (i.e. you're not given an option to opt out of it if you realize that you do not like it, at least not until you are in your final years).
What are the four founders' relics?
Hogwarts was founded by four ambitious witches and wizards (and to be more precise: two witches and two wizards). They all shared one thing in common: they wanted to set up a school where young witches and wizards would be taught everything they needed to know in order to make it in the wizarding world. However, they had little else in common which is what caused them to create their own distinct houses. The four founders eventually passed away but they left an amazing legacy. They also left four relics. Who thinks that they know what these four relics were?
Which potion is also known as "Liquid Luck"?
We're not going to lie: Potions is a tough subject. It's hard to do well in it which is perhaps why the series' protagonist, Harry Potter, was so bad at it. Of course, it didn't help that for most of his time at Hogwarts the subject was taught by none other than Professor Snape, the man who loved Harry's mother (and consequently could not stand Harry). It was only in his sixth year at Hogwarts that Harry began to excel at Potions and that was only because he had come into possession of an old Potions textbook that contained helpful comments. It was this textbook that helped him win a potion known as "Liquid Luck".
What is the name of Harry Potter's aunt?
When we first met Harry he had no idea that he was a wizard. He lived with his mean aunt and uncle (and their spoiled son). He was seriously mistreated and initially, we couldn't understand why. After all, his aunt was his deceased mother's sister. Surely she should have loved him? It was only later that we learned that his aunt was jealous of her sister (and the protagonist's mother) for being a witch. But what was the name of Harry's aunt? Who thinks that they can remember?
What is Bezoar used for?
A Bezoar is a stone-like mass that can be found in the stomachs of goats. It consists of plant fiber, hair, and other matter that goats can't digest (Harry Potter Wiki). A small stock of Bezoars was kept in the Potions classroom at all times. It could also be found in the Hospital Wing. But who can remember what it is that Bezoars do? Why are they so important? Fans will of course recall that Harry once used it on his best friend Ron Weasley.
Whose diary does Ginny Weasley get a hold of in the second movie?
In the second Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Ron Weasley's sister Ginny Weasley finds herself in trouble all because she comes into the possession of a secret diary. The secret diary did not belong to her but rather to someone else. Indeed, she used the diary to communicate with that person. But who was it that was the owner of the diary? If you consider yourself a true and loyal fan of the series you should ace this question.
What animal can Sirius Black turn into?
In the Harry Potter universe, some witches and wizards can transform into animals. Those who possess this unique ability are known as animagus. Pretty much anyone can become an animagus in that it is a skill that can be learned. Third year Hogwarts students are taught about animagus in Transfiguration class. A registry is kept of all animagi. However, not all of those who possess this skill register. For example, Sirius Black can turn into an animal but he never registered with the Ministry of Magic. This turned out to be a wise decision for it actually saved his life. But what animal could Sirius turn into?
Choose the best subject.
Everyone has a favorite subject in school. For example, Harry Potter's favorite class in Hogwarts was Defense Against the Dark Arts. As such, it comes as no surprise that he excelled at the subject. Draco Malfoy's favorite class, on the other hand, was probably Potions. He was fairly good at it although he was by no means a star student. Which class do you think would be your favorite if you were a student at Hogwarts? Choose an option from the four that are available above.
Who is not a Weasley?
Pretty much all fans of the Harry Potter series love the Weasleys. They are a family of kind and friendly redheads. They may be poor (relatively speaking) but they know that life is about more than acquiring wealth. Harry's best friend was a Weasley and he felt very close to the family. Indeed, Molly Weasley, Ron's mother, treated Harry like her own son. Molly and her husband, Arthur, had quite a few kids. Only those who are true fans of the series will know which of the above four characters is NOT a Weasley!
Choose the least interesting subject.
Going to a wizarding school sounds amazing. We all fantasize about the friends that we would make there and the subjects that we would take. But if were were actually students at Hogwarts we wouldn't necessarily like all of our classes. For example, we might be really bad at Potions or we might despise Professor Trelawney (much the way that Harry Potter did). So, out of the four subjects above, which one do you think you would like the least?
What is a Howler?
The wizarding world is full of mysterious wizarding objects that mean nothing to Muggles. For example, who knows the purpose of a Howler? A Howler does not sound too pleasant and indeed, it isn't. There has never been a witch or a wizard pleased with a Howler. But what is it? Go ahead and choose the answer that you think is correct from the four options that are available to you above. Take your time while answering this question and don't worry: no one is going to judge you if you get it wrong.
What animal can Professor McGonagall turn into?
An animagus is a witch or a wizard that can turn into an animal at will. It is a pretty cool skill to have but it takes serious dedication and ambition to acquire it. Hogwarts students are taught about becoming an animagus by Professor McGonagall, the Professor of Transfiguration. Naturally, she has the ability to turn into an animal herself and often freaks her students out by appearing seemingly out of nowhere. But what animal can Professor McGonagall transform into?
Who did Harry end up going to the Yule Ball with?
When Harry Potter was in his fourth year at Hogwarts he got a chance to attend the Yule Ball which was held as part of the Triwizard Tournament. Not everyone could attend this ball however. It was only open to fourth year students and above. However, younger students could attend it too provided that they were invited to it by an older student. Harry had no choice but to attend the ball because he was one of two Hogwarts' champions. But who did he bring to the ball?
Choose a Horcrux.
A Horcrux is an object in which a dark wizard or a dark witch hides a part of his or her soul for the sole purpose of attaining immortality. To create a Horcrux one has to take someone's life, which is the most dishonorable act in the world. Not many wizards and witches are prepared to do that, hence why there exist only a handful of Horcruxes. Even if a witch or a wizard has a Horcrux, he or she can still be eliminated. However, you'll need to get rid of their Horcrux first (Harry Potter Wiki).
What is the name of the only wizarding village in Great Britain?
Hogwarts' students were not confined to the castle or its grounds for the duration of the year. In fact, third year students and above could visit a nearby village on weekends. The village that they visited was said to be the only all-wizard village in the country. It had a few pubs, a few shops (most notably Honeydukes, a candy shop popular with Hogwarts' students), a few cafes and the Shrieking Shack. But what is the name of this unique village?
Which character was a Metamorphmagus?
A Metamorphmagus is a witch or a wizard who possesses the unique and rare ability to transform his or her appearance at will. According to Harry Potter Wiki, Metamorphmagi can take on various forms. For example, they can change not only their facial features or the color of their hair but also their build, age, and gender. It is impossible to become a Metamorphmagus. You either possess this ability from birth or not. Some Metamorphmagus can also change into animals.
What are the names of Draco Malfoy's cronies?
Draco Malfoy was Harry Potter's biggest nemesis (apart from Lord Voldemort of course). But he did not act alone. He always had his cronies with him. Naturally, his cronies were also sorted into Slytherin. Malfoy was pretty smart but he did not have the best taste in friends. His cronies were not very smart but on the other hand, they were pretty loyal. Like Malfoy they came from ancient wizarding families and ended up becoming followers of Lord Voldemort. What were their names?
Choose a Boggart.
In Harry Potter's third year at Hogwarts his Defense Against the Dark Arts class was introduced to a Boggart, a shape-shifting non being that turns into whatever the person standing in front of it is afraid of the most. For example, when Ron Weasley stood in front of a Boggart it turned into a massive spider whereas when Neville Longbottom stood in front of it it took the shape of Professor Snape. Harry's Boggart was a Dementor, which Professor Lupin thought was very smart: Harry was afraid of being afraid. What would your Boggart be?
What house is Luna Lovegood in?
Remember Luna Lovegood? She was one of Harry Potter's friends. She was rather strange and had a truly unique personality. She believed in the impossible and never thought that anything was too weird. Like most people, Harry initially found it hard to comprehend her but with time they became great friends. Indeed, Luna proved to be an invaluable companion. She fought alongside Harry on numerous occasions, thus proving her loyal and kind nature. But who can remember which Hogwarts house Luna was sorted into?
Choose a magical object.
Let's be honest: we'd all love to come into possession of one or two magical objects. Out of the four magical objects above, which one would you like to have the most? The invisibility cloak is obviously very useful if you want to go places without being seen whereas a time turner would suit those who want to alter the past. A Pensieve would allow you to relive your memories. On the other hand, the Marauders' Map would make it easier to sneak around Hogwarts.
What is the name of the language spoken by snakes?
In the first Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, we saw Harry visiting a zoo with his aunt and uncle and their son. While looking at the snakes he ended up conversing with one and accidentally let it loose. It was then that we first realized that Harry is probably no ordinary human being. We were proved right of course. Indeed, it turned out that Harry was a wizard. What's more, he could talk to snakes, a skill that is very rare, even among wizards and witches.
Choose a Weasleys' Wizards Wheezes product.
Fred and George were always pulling pranks on their friends and family so it comes as no surprise that they invented numerous prank items themselves and eventually opened up their very own joke shop. The joke shop turned out to be really successful. Witches and wizards frequented it often and were always amused by what was on offer. Out of the four Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes items mentioned above, which one would you like to purchase the most? Choose only one!
What position does Cho Chang play on the Ravenclaw Quidditch team?
At one point during the series Harry Potter could not help but fall in love with a pretty girl named Cho Chang. Just like Harry she also played Quidditch, which is perhaps why he fell in love with her in the first place. But who can remember the Quidditch position that Cho Chang played in? Go ahead and choose the answer that you think is right from the four options available above. This question is somewhat tough so take your time.
Choose a wizarding candy.
Everything in the wizarding world is different to the Muggle world, even candy! If you have a sweet tooth, you might be tempted to choose all of the four candies mentioned above. However, for the purpose of this quiz you must choose only one! We know it is hard to make a choice so make sure that you really think this question over. You can take your time for there is no rush. It is not like this quiz is timed or anything.
Which newspaper does Luna Lovegood's father edit?
Luna Lovegood was a bizarre character. She had a truly unique personality which often got her into trouble. For example, it was because of her strangeness that she was bullied by her fellow students. Luckily, she never took it too personally and was never too hurt by the pranks and the somewhat mean comments. Naturally, Luna's dad was just as strange as she was. He edited a magazine that no one took seriously. What was the name of this magazine?
Pick a potion.
Potions class is difficult (and Professor Snape isn't exactly a good teacher) hence why so many students dislike it immensely. But because it is a core subject, everyone must take it. That kind of makes sense. It is important that witches and wizards know how to brew potions. There are countless different potions that you can make. Some of them can bring you luck whereas others can cause people to become infatuated with you. Out of the four potions above, which one is, in your opinion, the most valuable?
Which Weasley passed away in the Battle of Hogwarts?
The Battle of Hogwarts was intense. We knew when we were watching it that it was going to decide the fate of the wizarding world. Either Harry Potter was going to win and save the world or Lord Voldemort was going to win and change the wizarding world forever. Luckily, Harry won but then again, he had plenty of help. Hogwarts' professors and students all fought by his side. Unfortunately, the battle was not without casualties. In fact, we ended up losing our favorite Weasley.
What is the name of this ghost?
Think you know the name of this ghost? Then what are you waiting for - go ahead and select the answer that you know (or think you know) is correct from the four options that are available above! As is probably obvious, the ghost above is that of a girl, and to be more precise, of a past student. She passed away decades before Harry came to Hogwarts. Back when she was alive she was bullied by her fellow housemates and as such she used to spend a lot of time crying in the girls bathroom. It was there that her life was taken by a basilisk under the command of young Lord Voldemort.
Participate in the Triwizard Tournament or watch it?
The Triwizard Tournament is a magical competition that is held between three wizarding schools. In Harry's fourth year at Hogwarts, the participating schools were Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Beauxbatons Academy of Magic and Durmstrang Institute. Each school is represented by one Champion. The selected champions have to complete three tasks that test their courage, magical ability, and intelligence. The tasks are pretty difficult hence why not everyone wants to participate in this contest. If you had the choice, would you put your name in the goblet of fire or would you be satisfied with merely watching the competition from the sidelines?
How does one enter the Ravenclaw common room?
If you're a Ravenclaw then you should pass this question with flying colors. If you're a student of another house then you might find this question somewhat tough. As most people are probably well aware, the common rooms of the four Hogwarts houses are well protected from intruders. For example, Gryffindor common room is protected by a portrait of a lady that demands a password before she lets you in. But how do you enter the common room of Ravenclaw?
Choose a Ministry of Magic department to work for.
You have graduated Hogwarts and you have found employment with the Ministry of Magic. Congratulations! You'll probably go far in life. Best of all, you are guaranteed plenty of excitement. Once you get bored with the department that you work in, you can switch. And you never know, you might at some point in the future become the Minister for Magic. But for now, which department would you like to start off in: the department of Magical Transportation, Department of Mysteries, Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures or Magical Law Enforcement?
Name the foreign student on the left.
Remember this guy? We met him in the fourth Harry Potter installment, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. He was a foreign student and came from Bulgaria. To be more specific, he attended Durmstrang Institute. He was actually his school's champion in the Triwizard Tournament. However, he was no ordinary student. Rather, he was a Quidditch star. He played in the position of a Seeker for the Bulgarian National Quidditch team. While at Hogwarts he fell in love with Hermione Granger.
Choose a Hogwarts boy to have a crush on.
It's only natural that we develop crushes on other people. Sometimes crushes turn into something more: true love. Other times our crushes are unrequited (i.e., the person that we like does not feel the same way about us). It's good to experience all types of crushes: two-sided crushes and unrequited crushes, for they can both teach us a lot about life and relationships. Out of the four characters above, which one do you think you'd end up having a crush on?
Which teaching position is said to be cursed?
While some Hogwarts professors taught at the school for years, others stayed there for just a year or two. In fact, one of Hogwarts' teaching positions was said to be cursed. The reason behind this rumor was simple: no professor stayed in the position for longer than a year. Some professors ended up going mad, others were fired, and still others passed away. As such, every year Hogwarts' students were introduced to a new professor. Which teaching position are we referring to here?
Pick a drink.
Wizards and witches might have never heard of frappuccinos or caramel macchiatos, but that does not necessarily mean that they are missing out. You see: wizards and witches have their own magical drinks that they love to order whenever they go out with their friends. For example, almost every witch and wizard has a soft spot for butterbeer. Of course, butterbeer is not the only drink on offer in wizard pubs and cafes. Out of the four wizard drinks above, which one would you order on a night out?
True or False: Hermione Granger's parents are lawyers?
Hermione Granger, Harry Potter's brainy sidekick, was said to be the smartest witch of her year. She was a real nerd and loved studying more than she loved anything else. She could always be found in the library and she always knew the answer to every question. Curiously enough, she was not a "pure witch" in that she was actually a Muggleborn. Both of her parents were Muggles and had normal Muggle jobs. Who can remember whether the above statement - Hermione Granger's parents are lawyers - is true?
