There are plenty of amazing cities to visit in the United States, however, for the rabid sports fan, that doesn't mean traveling to each of them is something on your list to do. A city can have plenty of great things to say, amazing food to eat and offer a different culture, but it can also be the home of the rival sports team that wouldn't be happy to see another rival from a different city wearing their team jersey at their game. Rivalries are what make sports great, though, and if your team didn't have a rival to play against each season, there wouldn't be that game on the schedule that is a can't miss rivalry game.
In this quiz, pick or pass on these sports teams and we'll reveal which city not to go to because more than likely, your rival team plays there. For a true sports fan who lives and breathes their team, they wouldn't be caught in their rival city, at least not while the season and playoffs are going on. There are plenty of great places to travel to so don't worry if you're not making a stop in your rival team's city. It's perfectly acceptable sports etiquette.
New York Yankees?
The New York Yankees are the most successful baseball team in Major League Baseball as they have won a record 27 World Series Championships. Known for their pin-stripe shirts, the Yankees are also one of the most valuable teams in the MLB and have the highest salary cap.
Boston Celtics?
The Boston Celtics are the most successful team in the NBA having won 17 NBA championships since the franchise started back in 1946. In total, that accounts for 23.9 percent of all championships won in the NBA, however, they have won only once since 1986.
Washington Redskins?
The Washington Redskins are the fourth most valuable franchise in the NFL and have won three Super Bowls in their franchise history, last winning it in 1991. They are one of only five franchises to have more than 600 combined victories.
Colorado Avalanche?
The Colorado Avalanche relocated from Quebec when they were just turning into one of the NHL’s elite teams. In fact, the first year in Colorado they won the Stanley Cup, disappointing Quebec fans who would have seen a championship team. They would win again in 2001.
Toronto Raptors?
The Toronto Raptors are currently the only Canadian team in the NBA and the only team not in the United States. They haven’t won an NBA title as of yet but they have won five division titles since 2007 and are on the doorstep to becoming an NBA finalist.
Detroit Red Wings?
The Detroit Red Wings had an impressive 25-year streak of playoff appearances, which is tied for third longest in league history. During that time the Red Wings won four Stanley Cups, including back-to-back in 1996-97 and 1007-98. In total they have 11 Stanley Cups in franchise history.
Kansas City Chiefs?
The Kansas City Chiefs are one of the most valuable franchises in the NFL, worth over $2 billion, and also a one-time Super Bowl champion, winning the fourth Super Bowl ever back in 1969. Since then, however, they haven’t appeared in any AFC conference championship games.
Buffalo Bills?
The Buffalo Bills have had their chances to win the Super Bowl. In fact, they played in the big game four times in a row in the early 90s, but they would come up short each time. They haven’t won a division title either since 1995 and had the longest playoff drought of any team in sports.
New York Giants?
The New York Giants have won eight championships in total, four before the AFL-NFL merger and four Super Bowl titles. There was a baseball team with the same name, so they are often called the New York Football Giants and they are often called the Big Blue Wrecking Crew.
Baltimore Orioles?
The Baltimore Orioles were one of the original members of the AL when the league was established back in 1901. Back then, they were in Milwaukee before moving to St. Louis and then to Baltimore in 1954. They have won all three of their World Series championships while in Baltimore.
Brooklyn Nets?
The Brooklyn Nets relocated from New Jersey in 2012 and are still looking for their first NBA championship in franchise history. They have played in two NBA Finals when they were in New Jersey and now play out of the newly built Barclay Center.
San Jose Sharks?
The San Jose Sharks were an expansion team in 1991 and have been a top team in the Pacific Division of the NHL for some time but have yet to win a Stanley Cup. They reached the Cup Final in 2016 but lost to Pittsburgh. In total they have won six Division Championships.
Anaheim Ducks?
The Anaheim Ducks were founded an expansion team in 1993 by Disney who named them after the hit movie of the team’s name. They would play in two Stanley Cup finals, winning it for the first and only time in franchise history back in 2007.
Cleveland Indians?
The Cleveland Indians have won two World Series championships in their franchise history, doing so in 1920 and 1948. But they haven’t won since and currently have the longest drought in the MLB. They had a chance in 2016 to end that drought when they made it to the World Series, losing to Chicago, who also had a long drought.
Boston Red Sox?
The Boston Red Sox were the first World Series champions, winning back in 1903, and won four more up to 1918. But then they went on an 86-year drought of not winning the World Series until they finally broke the streak in 2004, winning again in 2007 and 2013.
Green Bay Packers?
The Green Bay Packers are an interesting team as they are not owned by one single person, but rather are owned by the community who can buy shares into them. And good luck trying to get tickets to the winner of the first two Super Bowls, as Packers games have a long waiting list to get in.
Vancouver Canucks?
The Vancouver Canucks have won two back-to-back President’s trophies and have played in three Stanley Cup finals, but are still missing out on hoisting the Stanley Cup themselves, last doing so in 2011 where they went to a Game 7 and just missed a chance at a Cup.
Tampa Bay Rays?
The Tampa Bay Rays were an expansion team in 1998 and it took them only 10 years to make it to the World Series, battling through some early slumps through their first years to become a powerhouse. They would lose in the World Series, however, and would make the playoffs three times afterwards.
New York Knicks?
The New York Knicks started the 1950s with three straight NBA Finals appearances, but they lost each of them. When they made it back in 1970 and 1972, they would win the Finals, but that would be the last time, despite making the Finals again in 1994 and 1999.
Toronto Blue Jays?
The Toronto Blue Jays are the only remaining Canadian team in baseball and the only team that isn’t in the United States. They won back-to-back World Series championships in 1992 and 1993, becoming the first non-US based team to win it.
Montreal Canadiens?
The Montreal Canadiens have won the most Stanley Cups in NHL history with a record 24 Stanley Cup victories. Most of them were won when the league was still small and there was just the original six teams, but Montreal has won 25 percent of Stanley Cups in NHL history.
Seattle Seahawks?
The Seattle Seahawks are known for their incredible loud fan base that makes it hard to play them at home. It helped them win their one and only Super Bowl when they did so in 2013. They missed out on repeating a year later in 2014.
Philadelphia Eagles?
The Philadelphia Eagles are known for their intimidating fan base and for being the current Super Bowl champions, having won the Super Bowl for the first time despite having played in three Super Bowl games total. They are known for having some of the top rivalries in the NFL.
Minnesota Vikings?
The Minnesota Vikings haven’t won a Super Bowl championship as of today, as they last won in 1969, one year before the NFL and AFL merger. They have played in Super Bowls, however, doing so three times between 1973 and 1976.
New England Patriots?
The New England Patriots are one of the most successful teams in the NFL, having played in the most Super Bowl games in league history with eight, five of which they have won, all with Tom Brady as their quarterback. They also had a perfect regular season in 2007.
St. Louis Blues?
The St. Louis Blues have played in three Stanley Cup finals, doing so in three years straight between 1968 and 1970. However, they didn’t win any of those and currently are the oldest active team in the NHL to have not won the Stanley Cup.
Los Angeles Chargers?
The Los Angeles Chargers, who used to be the San Diego Chargers, have played one season in Los Angeles since moving back last season, and are still looking for their first Super Bowl championship. They have played in one Super Bowl, doing so back in 1994.
Indiana Pacers?
The Indiana Pacers won all their championships in the ABA days before they merged with the NBA. They did win the Eastern Conference in 2000 to go to the NBA Final, but they came up short in the finals. In total, they have won six division titles as a member of the NBA.
New York Rangers?
The New York Rangers are one of the Original Six teams in the NHL and the first team in the United States to win the Stanley Cup, doing so in 1928. Since then, they have won it three more times, the last time doing it in 1994.
Pittsburgh Penguins?
The Pittsburgh Penguins won their first wo Stanley Cup’s in the early 90s in back-to-back years and then started dynasty years when they won in 2009, and the back-to-back again in 2016 and 2017, led in the last three championships by Sidney Crosby.
Los Angeles Lakers?
The Los Angeles Lakers have the second most championships in NBA history having won 16 titles between their time in Minnesota and in Los Angeles. Six of them came when the team was in Minnesota and the rest when they moved to Los Angeles in 1960.
Texas Rangers?
The Texas Rangers have played in two World Series championships in back-to-back years, but they are still looking for their first championship in Major League Baseball. They have won seven division titles since moving to Texas in 1972 from Washington.
Houston Rockets?
The Houston Rockets have played in four NBA Finals and won two of them in back-to-back seasons back in 1994 and 1995. The Rockets have had three MVP players in their history, including Moses Malone, Hakeem Olajuwon and James Harden.
Chicago Bulls?
The Chicago Bulls were the most successful team during the 90s, as they won three NBA Championships in a row two different times, doing so from 1991 to 1993 and 1996 to 1998. They were led by Michael Jordan, who is considered the best player of all time.
New Jersey Devils?
The New Jersey Devils weren’t known for a flash game when they won three Stanley Cups between 1994 and 2003, as they were part of the era where there wasn’t many goals and they played a trap style defence that was dull to watch. But they won, so that’s all that matters in the end.
Philadelphia Phillies?
The Philadelphia Phillies have played in seven World Series championship series and have come away with two titles overall, winning in 1980 and 2008. The franchise is old, founded back in 1883, and because of that long history, they have lost the most games, just because of how long they have been around.
Detroit Pistons?
The Detroit Pistons are three-time NBA champions, having won the NBA Finals in back-to-back years in 1989 and 1990, and then adding a third in 2004. In total they have played in seven finals, winning the Western Conference twice and Eastern Conference five times.
Chicago Cubs?
The Chicago Cubs are one of the oldest teams in professional baseball and also have the distinction of having the record for the longest drought between World Series champions, as it took 108-years for the Cubs to win the World Series after winning it last in 1908.
Tampa Bay Lightning?
The Tampa Bay Lightning were an expansion team back in 1992 when the league wanted to move into the sun belt. And it would only take them just over a decade to win their first and only Stanley Cup when they did so back in 2004. They played in the final again in 2015 but lost.
New York Mets?
The New York Mets were established in 1962 and in their first season went 40-120, the worst regular season record in MLB since they went to 162-games. But it would take them just seven years to win their first World Series in 1969. They would win again in 1986.
Cleveland Cavaliers?
The Cleveland Cavaliers have made the last four NBA Finals on the shoulders of LeBron James, as he carried the team there and won them their first and only championship in franchise history back in 2016, defeating the Golden State Warriors, who they have played each time in those NBA Finals.
New York Jets?
The New York Jets have won one Super Bowl championship in their franchises 59-year history, doing so at Super Bowl 3 back in 1969 when they defeated the Baltimore Colts 16-7, becoming the first team other than Green Bay to win a Super Bowl.
San Francisco 49ers?
The San Francisco 49ers have had plenty of great quarterbacks in their time which has led them to five Super Bowl championships in their franchise history, four of which came in the 1980s. They also hold the record for most touchdowns in a Super Bowl.
San Antonio Spurs?
The San Antonio Spurs are one of the most successful teams in the NBA and in their 40 NBA seasons they have won 22 division titles and made the playoffs in 27 of their last 28 seasons. They have also won five NBA titles, all five coming after 1999.
Chicago Blackhawks?
The Chicago Blackhawks are one of the Original Six teams in the NHL but only won three Stanley Cups between 1933 and 1961. It would take until 2010 for them to win again, as the Hawks turned into a dynasty team, winning three Stanley Cups in five seasons.

The St. Louis Cardinals are the second most successful baseball team in Major League Baseball, having won 11 World Series Championships. They are also one of the oldest, as they were founded back in 1882. They are the seventh most valuable franchise and one of the highest ratings drawing teams.
Oakland Raiders?
The Oakland Raiders have one of the most rabid fanbases in the NFL, as their fans are known as the black hole, who wear all black to games. Former owner Al Davis was known for saying ‘just win baby, win’, and the Raiders have won three Super Bowls between 1976 and 1983.
New Orleans Saints?
The New Orleans Saints are one of the most pass heavy teams in the NFL, led by Drew Brees. They won the hearts of everyone when they won the Super Bowl in 2009 right after Hurricane Katrina. It was their first and only time they played in the Super Bowl.
Pittsburgh Pirates?
The Pittsburgh Pirates were founded in 1882 and won their first World Series 1909. They have won it four more times since then, last doing so in 1979. Since then, however, they have only made the playoffs six times, but haven’t made it back to the World Series.
