When The Sopranos series first aired on HBO back in 1999, it wasn’t guaranteed that it would be an instant hit with fans. There were already a number of mafia-related films that didn’t do very well at the box office like Mickey Blue Eyes and the Analyze This film series. This showed that putting a mafia spin on a modern story wasn’t always a guaranteed hit and it might not be enough to captivate television audiences. However, the series convinced all of its naysayers due to its engaging storyline and dynamic characters. There was a chemistry amongst the cast that no one could have predicted and James Gandolfini was able to truly convey the intensity and drama of the crime boss, Tony Soprano.

Everyone seemed to have their very own favorite character within the series, whether it was one of the recognizable faces from previous mobster films or the many women that helped to round out the series. While the central premise of the series revolved around the modern day mafia, the show was also very much centered around the different personalities and relationship dynamics amongst the characters. The series garnered a huge fan base and became thought of as one of HBO's biggest successes. The series went a full six seasons before it finally came to an end, with many of its fans disheartened to see it come to an end. Despite the mixed feelings regarding the series finale, the show still holds a special place in viewers’ hearts. If you can truly call yourself a fan of The Sopranos, test your knowledge on how well you know the show.
