In October of 2004, over 21 million viewers tuned in for the pilot episode of Desperate Housewives. It was the second primetime show of it's kind (an hour-long, soap opera style show vs the usual sitcoms), and the first to air on ABC. It dragged ABC out of it's primetime slump, and helped us discover the definition of a true dramedy. It also paved the way for shows like Weeds and Shameless, by giving us an alternative view of what happens when you take shockingly realistic and dark family lives, yet overdramatize them to the point of humor. Most most networks didn't think this was possible, including Showtime, the network that brought some of the most dramatic future examples. Believe it, or not Showtime, HBO, NBC, FOX, and even Lifetime turned Marc Cherry and his pilot for Desperate Housewives away.

However, two executives at ABC took the pilot, and were fired before the network realized its success. Yep, Desperate Housewives did all of this and more and it did it with four housewives, who all lived on the most mysterious, dangerous, and devastating lane in the world. These housewives were sexy, classy, and a bit crazy. I would tell you more about them, but I don't want to give anything away. Desperate Housewives might have been off the air for over 5 years, but the drama, mystery, and chaos of the housewives is still remembered by true fans anyway. Are you one of those fans? Do you remember which housewife hid which dark family secret, did this dirty deed, told this lie, or covered up the worst crimes? Let's find out shall we!
