There are so many underrated actresses doing great work on television and in the movies and yet, they're still not receiving the recognition that they deserve. What we mean is, there's people like Jennifer Lawrence and Michelle Williams and Emma Stone who are known for getting cast in a good chunk of the big time dramas that tend to garner lots of attention and accolades during awards season. But there are so many talented actresses out there plugging away each and every day and there's not as many people talking about them or their work. Then again, maybe that's exactly what they want. The decent acting jobs that pay the bills but none of the notoriety.

We'd love to experiment with the idea of who we connect with on the small and big screens and who we enjoy watching could possibly add up to who we might end up with as a mate. At the end of the day, it all has to do with that specific chemistry and energy we feel for people, right? It's all in the pheromones, they say.

Rate Felicity Jones

We first really took notice of Felicity Jones in 2011's Like Crazy opposite the late (and great) Anton Yelchin. She then went on to star as Jane Hawking in The Theory of Everything with Eddie Redmayne. She even starred in her own Star Wars spin-off Rogue One. Yet, we feel as though the world doesn't truly appreciate the greatness that is Felicity Jones.

Juno Temple came onto the acting scene years ago with a small role in the critically acclaimed film Atonement. Over the years, she's acted in a lengthy list of independent movies — Jack & Diane and Little Birds being among the most hard hitting. We feel as though the world hasn't yet seen everything Juno Temple has to offer.

Rate Greta Gerwig

Greta Gerwig caught some attention in 2010's Greenberg opposite Ben Stiller. Since then she has taken the indie movie scene by storm. She's actually known for writing most of the material that she acts in, like her movies Frances Ha and Mistress America. She's also taken a seat in the director's chair last year with Lady Bird. We'd love to see her in something huge, but we're just not sure it's her style.

Jenny Slate may well be known as the actress who also does a ton of voice work. She's done the voices for animated characters in everything from The Secret Life of Pets to Muppet Babies. Her comedic acting chops are truly there though. If you've seen her in Obvious Child or Landline, you will know exactly what we're talking about.

Emma Roberts is one of those actresses who comes from a show business family, so we're not entirely sure if people take her that seriously. Aside from her success in television on American Horror Story and Scream Queens, she's actually been a part of the independent movie scene for a number of years now.

Zoe Kazan gained some much deserved recognition last year when she starred in The Big Sick, but prior to that, she certainly wasn't a household name. If you haven't seen Ruby Sparks (which she also wrote) or The Pretty One then you're missing out on some really great hidden gems of the cinema.

Britt Robertson pretty much has the girl next door look down pat. And maybe that's why some people have no clue about her acting as she blends in a little too well! She starred on the short lived Netflix show Girlboss and now seems to be picking up steam on the Shonda Rimes show For The People.

Rashida Jones is definitely an underrated comedic actor. Some of our favorite roles that she's taken on lay in the comedy realm. A lot of people do know her from Parks & Rec, but again, she wasn't the star of the show. If you haven't checked out Angie Tribeca, that is the one to look to for a hard look at Rashida's comedic acting chops because that show is hers!

Zoey Deutch is definitely one of those young actors on the rise that you need to be on the look-out for. With roles in such movies like Dirty Grandpa and Before I Fall, she showed the world that she is capable of all things on the dramatic and comedic scale, but we really can't wait for her next huge role to really show the world what she can do.

A few years back, Rooney Mara won the coveted role of Lisbeth Salander in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, but she didn't appear in this year's sequel. She seems to only work once or twice a year, so we get the feeling that Mara only picks projects that truly ignite her passion for acting.

Lily James made her big debut onto the Hollywood scene by playing Cinderella a few years back on the big screen. She also appeared this year as a young Meryl Streep in Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again, but we need to see what she has to offer besides a little song and dance. As far as her acting chops go though, we've seen her in Fantastic Beasts and Big Little Lies and all we can say is we need a lot more!

Carey Mulligan first turned a few heads when her movie An Education came out to critical praise in 2009. Oh, former Disney channel stars. They tend to either completely soar or have some minor popularity for a year or two and then kind of vanish from the scene. Bella Thorne has really soared since her Disney days, but a lot of her work is still geared towards the younger crowd with movies like Midnight Sun and the show Famous In Love. We'd love to see her shock us all in something super dramatic.

She reached critical acclaim years ago with her role in the controversial Secretary and this year's The Kindergarten Teacher has gotten some people talking.

She did hit it pretty big a few years back when she starred opposite Julia Roberts in Mirror, Mirror and the first installment (which never ended up taking off) of the Mortal Instruments series. But where is her big star making break?

A lot of us remember Brie Larson from the hard-hitting movie Room a few years back and she's set to star as Captain Marvel in 2019, but we need more from Brie on the dramatic side of things. She was also a lot of fun to watch in the romantic comedy Something Borrowed too, so we're well aware that this woman can do it all!

Who here remembers Margarita Levieva playing the fake Amanda Clarke on ABC's hit show Revenge? That show was so fun to watch! From there she has appeared in several films over the years and currently stars on HBO's The Deuce, but we'd love to see her get her feet wet in a drama on the big screen. Or maybe even a comedy! The sky's the limit.
