There are so many underrated actresses doing great work on television and in the movies and yet, they're still not receiving the recognition that they deserve. What we mean is, there's people like Jennifer Lawrence and Michelle Williams and Emma Stone who are known for getting cast in a good chunk of the big time dramas that tend to garner lots of attention and accolades during awards season. But there are so many talented actresses out there plugging away each and every day and there's not as many people talking about them or their work. Then again, maybe that's exactly what they want. The decent acting jobs that pay the bills but none of the notoriety.
We'd love to experiment with the idea of who we connect with on the small and big screens and who we enjoy watching could possibly add up to who we might end up with as a mate. At the end of the day, it all has to do with that specific chemistry and energy we feel for people, right? It's all in the pheromones, they say.

Rate Felicity Jones
We first really took notice of Felicity Jones in 2011's Like Crazy opposite the late (and great) Anton Yelchin. She then went on to star as Jane Hawking in The Theory of Everything with Eddie Redmayne. She even starred in her own Star Wars spin-off Rogue One. Yet, we feel as though the world doesn't truly appreciate the greatness that is Felicity Jones.
Rate Juno Temple
Juno Temple came onto the acting scene years ago with a small role in the critically acclaimed film Atonement. Over the years, she's acted in a lengthy list of independent movies — Jack & Diane and Little Birds being among the most hard hitting. We feel as though the world hasn't yet seen everything Juno Temple has to offer.
Rate Greta Gerwig
Greta Gerwig caught some attention in 2010's Greenberg opposite Ben Stiller. Since then she has taken the indie movie scene by storm. She's actually known for writing most of the material that she acts in, like her movies Frances Ha and Mistress America. She's also taken a seat in the director's chair last year with Lady Bird. We'd love to see her in something huge, but we're just not sure it's her style.
Rate Jenny Slate
Jenny Slate may well be known as the actress who also does a ton of voice work. She's done the voices for animated characters in everything from The Secret Life of Pets to Muppet Babies. Her comedic acting chops are truly there though. If you've seen her in Obvious Child or Landline, you will know exactly what we're talking about.
Rate Emma Roberts
Emma Roberts is one of those actresses who comes from a show business family, so we're not entirely sure if people take her that seriously. Aside from her success in television on American Horror Story and Scream Queens, she's actually been a part of the independent movie scene for a number of years now.
Rate Zoe Kazan
Zoe Kazan gained some much deserved recognition last year when she starred in The Big Sick, but prior to that, she certainly wasn't a household name. If you haven't seen Ruby Sparks (which she also wrote) or The Pretty One then you're missing out on some really great hidden gems of the cinema.

Britt Robertson pretty much has the girl next door look down pat. And maybe that's why some people have no clue about her acting as she blends in a little too well! She starred on the short lived Netflix show Girlboss and now seems to be picking up steam on the Shonda Rimes show For The People.

Rashida Jones is definitely an underrated comedic actor. Some of our favorite roles that she's taken on lay in the comedy realm. A lot of people do know her from Parks & Rec, but again, she wasn't the star of the show. If you haven't checked out Angie Tribeca, that is the one to look to for a hard look at Rashida's comedic acting chops because that show is hers!
Rate Zoey Deutch
Zoey Deutch is definitely one of those young actors on the rise that you need to be on the look-out for. With roles in such movies like Dirty Grandpa and Before I Fall, she showed the world that she is capable of all things on the dramatic and comedic scale, but we really can't wait for her next huge role to really show the world what she can do.
Rate Rooney Mara
A few years back, Rooney Mara won the coveted role of Lisbeth Salander in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, but she didn't appear in this year's sequel. She seems to only work once or twice a year, so we get the feeling that Mara only picks projects that truly ignite her passion for acting.
Rate Lily James
Lily James made her big debut onto the Hollywood scene by playing Cinderella a few years back on the big screen. She also appeared this year as a young Meryl Streep in Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again, but we need to see what she has to offer besides a little song and dance. There's a lot going on in there, we think.

Olivia Wilde is one of those actresses who's so beautiful to look at, you kind of start to forget whether or not she can actually act. The good thing is she can! She appeared in Life Itself this year and a number of great shows like House, Vinyl and Doll & Em. Who wants to see more from the lovely Olivia Wilde?

Gillian Jacobs is a hidden treasure of sorts in the acting world because as much success as she's had, there's still a lot of people out there who don't know who she is. She was on Community for years and recently starred in Netflix's Love, but the world needs to see just what it's like to see Gillian Jacobs in a purely dramatic role.
Rate Gina Rodriguez
Gina Rodriguez is known to some for her role as Jane on a certain telenovela inspired show on The CW, but to others she's still fairly unknown. She starred alongside Mark Wahlberg in Deepwater Horizon and Natalie Portman in Annihilation earlier this year, but what she's really in need of is a starring role in a big movie to truly show those acting chops.

Riley Keough is another actress who comes from famous roots as she is the daughter of Lisa Marie Presley. But luckily for all of us, she can actually act. She's done things mostly on the independent circuit, but if you've seen such films as Lovesong, Logan Lucky or the strange little movie called The House That Jack Built, you'll know she can do great things.

Haley Lu Richardson played Hailee Steinfeld's best friend who fell in love with her brother in The Edge of Seventeen and that role definitely got some people to take notice. Her roles in independent films like Columbus alongside John Cho and Support The Girls with Regina Hall are the ones that really showed her range as an actor.

Taissa Farmiga caught some attention in the first season of AHS years ago when it premiered. Since then she acted in a few independent movies like The Bling Ring and 6 Years. Most recently, she starred in the horror flick The Nun, but it would be super interesting to see her in a dramatic role in a bigger movie.

If you were paying close enough attention, Aubrey Plaza probably stole a little piece of your heart in her role as the hilarious April Ludgate in Parks & Rec. Since then she's had some great roles in movies like The To Do List and Ingrid Goes West, but it's hard to feel as though Aubrey Plaza is as appreciated as she should be.

Hey, when you're the daughter of such Hollywood heavyweights like Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet, it's really no wonder that she's known for being a truly breathtaking human being. As far as her acting chops go though, we've seen her in Fantastic Beasts and Big Little Lies and all we can say is we need a lot more!

To say that at the very least the world needs to appreciate just how long Mae Whitman has been acting now would be an understatement. To clarify, she's been acting since she was four (IMDB). With her pivotal roles in NBC's Parenthood to Good Girls, she has shown the world that she is fully capable of leading lady status while still possessing that girl next door charm.

It may seem a little like this has been the year for comedian Awkwafina, but really, we can't help but wonder just where exactly everyone has been? She's been acting for a number of years now, but with movies like Crazy Rich Asians and Dude out this year, we really can't wait to see what she does next.

Kathryn Hahn may be known as one of best underrated actresses of her generation, but that doesn't stand so well with us because she deserves more! She's appeared in countless movies over the course of almost twenty years and her role in the Bad Moms films truly shows off just how funny she can be.

Carey Mulligan first turned a few heads when her movie An Education came out to critical praise in 2009. With super dramatic roles in period pieces like Suffragette and Far From The Madding Crowd, it's no wonder that not everyone sees everything Carey Mulligan acts in. We vote to see her in a lighthearted romantic comedy ASAP!

Oh, former Disney channel stars. They tend to either completely soar or have some minor popularity for a year or two and then kind of vanish from the scene. Bella Thorne has really soared since her Disney days, but a lot of her work is still geared towards the younger crowd with movies like Midnight Sun and the show Famous In Love. We'd love to see her shock us all in something super dramatic.

Christina Hendricks definitely has one of those faces where you feel like you know her or if you don't, you really want to know her. She slayed the role of Joan for years on Mad Men and is equally as great on Good Girls, but we'd really love to see Christina recognized for the chameleon that she is.

Will Jessica Biel always be the pretty brunette former child star who acted on The WB's Seventh Heaven for all those years or is she bound to have another fate? It's not like she hasn't been acting the past few years. She was nominated for her role in The Sinner in 2017 and has never shied away from a good comedic or action role too.

We can't help but think about her role as the obsessed high school student in 2002's thriller Swimfan. But Erika Christensen has come far beyond any of the teen roles she played. In recent years she helped to tug on our heart strings week after week on Parenthood and slayed on the drama Ten Days in the Valley.

According to IMDB, Regina Hall has been in the acting game (on some level) since 1992. It just seems so weird to us that someone with that kind of talent has just started to garner some attention all these years later. Beanie Feldstein just has one of those faces where you just want to protect her from the harsh outside world. She totally stole everyone's heart in the award nominated Lady Bird last year, but we'd truly love to see Beanie in a leading role sometime soon. You simply can't be a Gyllenhaal and not be able to act your way out of a paper bag, so to speak. Maggie Gyllenhaal has been on the movie and television scene for years now. She reached critical acclaim years ago with her role in the controversial Secretary and this year's The Kindergarten Teacher has gotten some people talking.

If anyone saw the little unknown indie flick called Daydream Nation that she starred in years ago, they would know she's a top notch actress.

Elizabeth Olsen has had one great career the past several years since hitting the independent movie scene hard with Martha Marcy May Marlene. She then got cast as the Scarlet Witch in the Marvel universe, but still manages to take on acting jobs that require thought and carry true weight.

After we saw 2015's The Diary of a Teenage Girl and discovered British actress Bel Powley for the first time, we thought for sure she was on her way to a big Hollywood career. She has done well for herself with cool roles over the past couple years, but we'd love to see her really take the acting world by storm.

Elle Fanning is someone who has been acting since she's barely been able to walk. She's someone who has found that great balance of commercial movies, like Maleficient and smaller independent roles — 20th Century Women being a recent favorite. But has the world seen just exactly what she can do on a large scale? We're not entirely sure.

If you didn't enjoy Gaby Hoffman way back to her Field of Dreams days in 1995, perhaps you're not a true movie fan at all! Hoffman has been honing her craft for over two decades and it was great to see her in Wild with Reese Witherspoon a few years back. But we would love to see her star in something big herself!

Alexandra Daddario stole some hearts in the young crowd when she broke out onto the scene in the Percy Jackson series in 2010. Since then we've seen her take on roles in several movies and beloved television shows, such as True Detective and AHS. What we'd really like to see is an all out starring role for Daddario so she can really steal the whole show.

Samira Wiley truly got her break on Orange is the New Black as Poussey, but she had actually been in the acting game for several years prior. You can currently watch her in a supporting role on TV's The Handmaid's Tale, but Wiley is worthy of so much more than a supporting role and it's time the world took notice!

Abigail Spencer is another one of those great actresses that you probably recognize due to the fact that she's been on so many different television shows and movies over the years. Of note, she starred in Timeless for two seasons, but we're hoping that a TV show that won't get cancelled nabs her up real soon!

She did hit it pretty big a few years back when she starred opposite Julia Roberts in Mirror, Mirror and the first installment (which never ended up taking off) of the Mortal Instruments series. But where is her big star making break?

A lot of us remember Brie Larson from the hard-hitting movie Room a few years back and she's set to star as Captain Marvel in 2019, but we need more from Brie on the dramatic side of things. She completely stunned people in Short Term 12 years back when she was basically unknown and we'd love to see that dramatic work again.

Ginnifer Goodwin is totally great acting in big ensemble type of television shows like Once Upon A Time, but we also very much enjoyed her dramatic work on HBO's hit Big Love. She was also a lot of fun to watch in the romantic comedy Something Borrowed too, so we're well aware that this woman can do it all!

She appeared in the latest season of the hit show Shameless, but we'd love to see something on the big screen for this seasoned actress.

Who here remembers Margarita Levieva playing the fake Amanda Clarke on ABC's hit show Revenge? That show was so fun to watch! From there she has appeared in several films over the years and currently stars on HBO's The Deuce, but we'd love to see her get her feet wet in a drama on the big screen. Or maybe even a comedy! The sky's the limit.
