Rate these Star Wars Characters And We'll Tell You What Lightsaber Color You Should Use

"This is the weapon of a Jedi Knight. Not as clumsy or as random as a blaster. An elegant weapon... for a more civilized age." -- Obi-Wan Kenobi.

There are few things more iconic in the Star Wars universe and mythos than lightsabers. We've seen simple space swords become weapons for massive fights between heroes, villains, and more. We've also gotten to see that having a hilted lightsaber like a knight will not cause you to lose your hand. Good thing Kylo Ren is safe right now.

I think it goes without saying that Star Wars is fairly divisive and controversial right now, so I'm going to establish in the intro that I'll try being fair to all of the movies and characters. By fair, I mean I'll try to avoid my opinion and stick to facts or common fan arguments. Saying The Last Jedi divided many fans is fact. Saying how much I hate a character isn't.

All of the characters on here were important to their movies, so you're not going to have to rate Dexter Jettster and his 1950's cafe or Porkins, the X-Wing pilot who dies in the original Star Wars. We are going to leave off characters introduced in Solo, if only because that movie is still fresh and some people haven't seen it yet.

Question 1

Luke Skywalker

While Rey, Finn, and Kylo Ren are the main characters of the new movies, everything always goes back to Luke Skywalker for a reason. He's one of the most iconic and beloved fictional characters in any medium, which makes us think that his story isn't over yet in the Star Wars movies. What do you think of the legendary Jedi Knight?

Question 2

Leia Organa

Carrie Fisher is right up there with Heath Ledger among the actors who turned in a fantastic performance for their final role before passing away far too early. We will always remember #OurPrincess and Star Wars will never be the same without Leia's snark and humanity. What do you think of the princess-turned-general?

Question 3

Han Solo

Because Harrison Ford has been vocal in saying that he thought Han Solo should've died during either The Empire Strikes Back or Return of the Jedi and that he really only came back to Star Wars so the scoundrel could die, we'll throw him a bone and use a picture of Han from The Empire Strikes Back. What do you think of Han Solo?

Question 4

Rey

Let's move from the original trio to the new trio, starting with the young Jedi, Rey. It's unfortunate that Rey's mere existence has turned some Star Wars fans away as she is, in their words, a Mar-Rey-Sue, but I personally love what Daisy Ridley has done with the character and I'm excited to see everything that comes from Episode IX.

Question 5

Finn

The first glimpse we got into the new Star Wars movies came in the form of Finn, who appeared as a jump scare way back in Nov. 2014. Many fans now love Finn for his humor and his heart, though I don't think I'm alone in wanting more from him in Episode IX after he was underutilized in The Last Jedi. What do you think?

Question 6

Poe Dameron

It may seem weird to call Poe a breakout character from The Last Jedi since he already had a fair amount of screentime in The Force Awakens, but Oscar Issac was fantastic this past movie. Poe is another character that is being forced to grow because of everything around him and is struggling, which makes for a fascinating character arc. What do you think?

Question 7

Darth Vader

Try not to let prequel! Anakin Skywalker or the infamous scene from Revenge of the Sith try to skew your vote here. (I think I'm the only person who is actually alright with Vader yelling NO! when he learns Padme died.) Darth Vader is one of the most iconic fictional villains to debut in a movie for good reason, so let us know what you think of him.

Question 8

Kylo Ren

Kylo Ren, or as he was once known, Ben Solo, is not Darth Vader. Kylo Ren, as he and the audience realized during The Last Jedi, is just Kylo Ren - and I'm fine with that. Kylo does not need to wear a mask and suit to be a dangerous Dark Jedi when he already has the anger, hate, and conflict inside him. What do you think of Kylo Ren?

Question 9

Palpatine

Did you know that Palpatine's first name is Sheev? There's some useless trivia you can use at the pub/tavern/local bar where you forget that you have to work the next day. Palpatine never forgot about work and that's how he manipulated everyone into doing what he wanted, which then led to the Empire, the Death Star, and his own death. Your thoughts on Palpy?

Question 10

Snoke

So at this time, I don't think we've seen the last of Snoke. I think there's too many questions still to be answered and I think Kylo's own anger and mental state will lead to either a vision or hallucination of Snoke in Episode IX. Watch me be way off the mark, though. What did you think of Supreme Leader Snoke?

Question 11

Obi-Wan Kenobi

As much as I love Ewan McGregor, I've just been in an Original Trilogy mood lately so we'll use Alec Guiness as the picture. Because I'm sure you don't want to hear about why I choose what picture, let's focus on Obi-Wan and how we're most likely getting an anthology film of his soon. I think I know who the main villain should be...Gorga the Hutt, Jabba's cousin!

Question 12

Yoda

Yoda appearing in The Last Jedi was a perfect reminder of what made him so awesome in the Original Trilogy. Yoda's character isn't about the flips and cartoon stuff he did in the prequels, but it's about lending wisdom and using the Force. That we're likely never to see Yoda with a lightsaber on screen again makes me happy. Besides, maybe Yoda will come back in Episode IX to speak with Rey....

Question 13

Darth Maul

Seeing as the canon TV shows like Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels have established (spoilers) that Darth Maul survived that whole incident on Naboo, I get the feeling we're in for a Maul anthology movie in the coming years. Maybe something where he's a crime syndicate boss and he comes into contact with other characters we've met? Something like that could be fun! And yes, we had to use this iconic shot.

Question 14

Chewbacca

One of the things I thought Solo: A Star Wars Story did right - and there's no spoilers here, I promise - is that they kept Chewbacca's character intact. The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi have both done that as well, which may sound difficult with a Wookie whose words you can't understand, but Chewbacca is staying true to himself and I love it. Do you?

Question 15

C-3PO

C-3PO is the perfect example of what the internet calls the "Mr. Plinkett Character Test," where you have to describe a character solely on their personality. No occupation, no relationships, just the personality. How is C-3PO the perfect example? If you saw his picture and remembered that he's the comedic relief of the original trilogy and a bit sassy, you win!

Question 16

R2-D2

Here's another fun fact for the pub. While R2-D2 does not have a true gender designation the way Luke or Leia do, droids have assigned genders to them. R2's is that of a male, which is why we use "he" in the answers. I'm not sure why that would matter in the Star Wars universe, but I have bigger questions. Like how did Dexter Jettster know about the Kamino saberdart?

Question 17

BB-8

You know what my favorite thing about BB-8 is? It's when BB-8 says his own name in that high-pitched voice. BB-8! I'm admittedly worried BB-8 is going to be destroyed in Episode IX, though maybe I should be more optimistic. It's not like Episode IX is going to end the way Infinity War did...right? Mr. Dameron, I don't feel so good.

Question 18

Armitage Hux

We've talked for too long about the good guys in the Star Wars universe, so let's get to some of the meaner people in the galaxy. I think it's a given at this point that Hux is going to die in Episode IX, though my money is on Kylo being the one to do it at long last. What do you think of Hux?

Question 19

Phasma

Mark my words: We're going to see Captain Phasma once again in Episode IX. I don't know her survival will be explained, but we'll see her for three minutes, finally get a look at Gwendoline Christie's entire face, and that'll be it. Maybe she'll stab Finn and Poe will kill her? I just know we're going to see Phasma again. What do you think of her?

Question 20

Boba Fett

Boba Fett! *Looks* Boba Fett? *Looks again* Where? Oh, he fell. Chances are we're going to get a Boba Fett anthology movie by 2022 or 2023, which is exciting in its own right. 2020 would be 40 years since the character was first introduced in The Empire Strikes Back, so we'll have to see if he's up next. What do you think of Boba?

Question 21

Lando Calrissian

We don't care if you're judging Lando based on Billy Dee Williams' performance or Donald Glover's recent job in Solo: A (Disney) Star Wars (Disney) Story (by Disney). We just want to know what you think about the suave, charming man who betrays seemingly everyone he knows. Is DJ supposed to be the new Lando? I'm actually worried to know the answer because no one can be the new Lando.

Question 22

Rose Tico

I'm not doing it. I'm not lending my opinion on Rose. You're free to do it in the comment section below, but I will acknowledge that Rose is easily the fandom's most divisive character since Jar Jar Binks. That's all that needs to be said regardless of how I feel or how you feel.

Question 23

Jar Jar Binks

Say what you want about Jar Jar Binks, but he at least has a coherent story arc in The Phantom Menace. He starts off as a bumbling fool who was exiled from his people and goes on to become a Gungan bombad general who helps defeat the droid army. Not bad! What did you think of Jar Jar Binks?

Question 24

DJ

Are we going to see DJ in Episode IX? I know the entire casino part of The Last Jedi is among the most loathed Star Wars parts by the majority of fans, but Benecio del Toro at least gave some effort and there's a hint that his story may not be over. If not, though, we'll be left wondering just whose ship he's going to steal next.

Question 25

Maz Kanata

Lupita Nyong'o is awesome and she's certainly made Maz Kanata a memorable character. If the idea of more anthology movies tied into a Star Wars Cinematic Universe becomes reality, I get the feeling we're going to see more of Maz in the coming years and films. What do you think of Maz Kanata, who is NOT named Maz Cantina?

Question 26

Amilyn Holdo

The inclusion of Holdo in The Last Jedi was an interesting choice and all accounts are that Laura Dern enjoyed herself, but fans have been mixed on the character. We'll let you make your own feelings known in the comment section, but for now, just tell us how you feel about Holdo with the provided answer options.

Question 27

Wedge Antilles

Here's something you may find fairly interesting. Denis Lawson, who played Wedge in the Original Trilogy, declined an opportunity to return for The Force Awakens - and by extension, likely the other sequels - because he said it would have been too boring. I love Wedge so I'd have been fine with him returning, but he probably would've died in The Last Jedi with (The Greatest of All Time) Admiral Ackbar. RIP Ackbar.

Question 28

Padme Amidala

Let's talk about the prequels - and if you don't want to, then just pick your answers and run. Run, Forrest (Whitaker as Saw Gerrera in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), run. Padme begins the Star Wars prequels as a motherly or sisterly figure to Anakin, then is intended to be the love interest in tight leather and pure white in the next movie. Yeah...

Question 29

Mace Windu

Nearly 20 years after The Phantom Menace, It's still weird to think of the loud, always-cursing Samuel L. Jackson playing the wise and reserved Mace Windu. At least we got that purple lightsaber out of it. If the prequels were to be done again, I feel Mace Windu would be done more like Jackson's Nick Fury from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but I digress.

Question 30

General Grevious

Imagine not watching the original Star Wars: Clone Wars cartoon or reading any books/comics before seeing Revenge of the Sith in 2005. Actually, just imagine going from Attack of the Clones to Revenge of the Sith in general and being confused about who this guy in a robot suit is. But hey, the guy had four lightsabers in his collection!

Question 31

Count Dooku

For as much as I enjoyed the mystery of Snoke, I would've liked a bigger bad more similar to Count Dooku. What made Dooku so interesting was he wasn't into chaos or destruction the way a Maul or Sidious was. Dooku simply realized the Jedi and the Republic were flawed, so he wanted to change the galaxy. I want to see more characters like that! What'd you think of Dooku?

Question 32

Jyn Orso

We said we wouldn't talk too much about Solo, but Rogue One is another story. Actually, it's a Star Wars story. I was honestly more into the story of Jyn's father, Galen, than I was her, but Felicity Jones did a fine job. Roughly a year and a half following Rogue One's release, what do you think about Jyn Orso?

Question 33

Chirrut Imwe

If not for the iconic Darth Vader scene at Rogue One's conclusion - I know I've said iconic a lot, but that's Star Wars for you - we wouldn't have seen a lightsaber in the entire movie. I loved a character like Chirrut who believes in the Force and maybe has basic skills, but doesn't use a lightsaber. I am one with the Force and the Force is with me.

Question 34

K-2SO

K-2 began what seems to be the trend of comic relief droids being in every Star Wars movie. Yes, C-3PO technically began the trend, but he was his own character. First, we had K-2SO in Rogue One, then we got L3 in Solo. Is Obi-Wan going to have a comedic relief droid in his standalone movie? What about Dexter Jettster's waitress bot? What'd you think of K2?

Question 35

Orson Krennic

If I was ever going to do Rogue One again, I'd have made it a movie about Galen Orso and Orson Krennic. Director Krennic is a fine villain for this movie and Ben Mendelsohn was fantastic in the role. We need another movie with Krennic as the big bad - or, depending on how risky Disney wants to be, a villainous protagonist. What'd you think of Krennic?
