We have something we need to say. We're geeks. Yes, that's right, geeks. And, know what else? We're proud of it! It just so happens that we're complete dorks who just so happen to be members of a whole lot of different fandoms, and if anybody's got a problem with that, then they can take it up with us.
Anyway, one of the big fandoms we less than three is the Disney fandom. Ugh! The movies, the short films, the complicated characters, the compelling storylines. There's something for everyone within the world of Disney, and we are so here for it right now, it's not even funny. The amount of time we spend considering all things Disney is completely unjustifiable, especially considering we're (semi) functioning adults. But we're not about to let anything as silly as "self-awareness" stop us!
Obviously, relationships are a big deal in Disney movies. Friendship is a major recurring theme, after all. We totally love the partnerships in the movies, like Buzz and Woody from Toy Story or Lilo and Stitch from, well, Lilo and Stitch. But sometimes we wonder what it would be like if these heroes had different sidekicks. Consider these revamped Disney Hero/Sidekick combos, and get a Pixar movie to enjoy in the end!
Jasmine and Mushu
Completely independent and yearning for adventure beyond the palace walls, Jasmine is Disney princess who is reluctantly royal. She'd much rather face a challenge head on than kick her feet up and relax while her servants deal with it for her, and with a sidekick as sassy and sensible as Mushu, we think this revamped Disney duo would be unstoppable!
Woody and Stitch
Woody's loyal and logical. He's got a good head on his shoulders. He's the kind of guy you could call up in the middle of the night if you needed a ride home, and he would be there in a heartbeat—even if he took the opportunity to criticize your life choices. Stitch, on the other hand, is wily, crafty and mischievous. So, whadya think? A good pair or not?
Snow White and Thumper
Thumper is a-flipping-dorable, what with his little bunny face and his ability to thump his foot on a stump better than anyone else in the forest, bar none. But, the question is, would this little ball of fun and fluff be a good sidekick for the gentle, protective and naive Snow White? Weigh the pros and cons, 'cause you're the judge here.
Mulan and Sebastian
Sebastian is but a little sea crab, but, let's face it, the guy is all heart. He cares deeply for his friends, and even though he always tells it like it is, he does so with good reason. Would this tiny crustacean adviser be a good support system for the witty, fierce and clever Mulan? Debatable!
Anna and Pua
Anna risks it all to save her sister, Elsa, and their kingdom, Arendelle, proving she's selfless, caring and devoted to the people she loves. Anna will move mountains to care for her friends all by herself, and with an animal buddy as adorable as little piggy Pua, we think it's safe to say there would be no stopping these two.
Buzz Lightyear and Timon
When trouble rears its ugly head, Buzz Lightyear is the guy who rushes in to roll with the punches and put the evildoers in their place. Meanwhile, Timon...well, he's a funny guy, a real comic relief type, but while he's been known to stare danger in the face for the sake of helping out a friend, let's just say it's definitely not his most favorite thing.
Ariel and Dory
Ariel, AKA the Little Mermaid, is a polite and friendly princess, but don't let that facade fool ya none. She's spirited and willful and she'll do anything to cut her own path in this world. She and Dory have more in common than their fishy tails. These two are unapologetically themselves, although their carefree attitudes can sometimes put then face to face with trouble.
Aladdin and Pegasus
Aladdin's the master of thinking on his feet. He's caring and kind-hearted, even if he does have a knack for landing in hot water all of the time. Fortunately, with a sidekick like Pegasus, Hercules' legendary noble steed who can be something of a birdbrain. Do these two a winning combination make, or would they be better off working alone?
Pocahontas and Olaf
Pocahontas is tactful and considerate, but that in no way means she's a pushover. She's willing to disobey her father for the sake of being true to herself, and we think that makes her a great heroine for a second banana like Olaf. A happy-go-lucky snowman like that would be a great sidekick to someone as wise and adventurous as Pocahontas...or, would he? You decide.
Rapunzel and Kronk
What Kronk lacks in brainpower and ingenuity he more than makes up for in comic relief. But, hey, that's okay! Rapunzel has got more than enough intelligence—both common sense and street smarts, oddly enough, considering she's been living in a tower all by herself since forever—for the both of them. She's great at thinking on her feet, and he's...well, he's Kronk. So, what do you think about these two? Good or not?
Lilo and Meeko
Now, here's a revamped Disney duo we can get behind! And, sure, this combo was totally our idea, but whatevs. Take a look at these two and tell us they wouldn't be a great team. Both Lilo and Meeko are curious, mischievous and clever, but they're also kind, empathetic and loving. If these two beloved Disney characters got together, the would be one heck of a force to be reckoned with.
Tiana and Pumbaa
Tiana is a girl who knows the value of hard work, but Pumbaa is a warthog who has a whole musical number about how "Hakuna Matata" is his motto, and it roughly translates to "no worries". So, in essence, here you've got a determined, goal-oriented princess and a carefree warthog. Sounds like a pretty interesting duo, does it not?
Cinderella and Sven
Cinderella, long mistreated by her wicked stepmother and stepsisters, is just too precious for this world. She's gentle, sweet and kind in spite of her endless torment, which is why we think she'd be a great fit for a sidekick as loyal and loving as Sven, who would offer her endless support throughout her legendary rags to riches story.
Simba and Tinkerbell
As a cub, Simba was a little impressionable and sometimes let his ego get the better of him, but he grew into mature adult and a competent leader, both qualities that enabled him to take back his father's kingdom and put his uncle, Scar, in his place. Would this powerful lion make a good hero for a sidekick like the sassy and hot tempered as the magical little pixie, Tinerkbell? That's for you to say.
Belle and Rajah
Rajah is a sweet little kitten in the body of a fearsome tiger. He's Jasmine's constant companion in Aladdin, but we think this furry not-so-little guy would be a good animal pal for Belle. She's a bookworm, he's a big cat...we all know how nice it is to snuggle up with a copy of Romeo and Juliet with a sweet feline companion by our side. We think this combination could work.
Elsa and Pascal
Through her iconic musical number "Let it Go," we learned that Elsa is the kind of person who appears calm and regal on the outside at all times, even if she's raging on the inside. She's poised and confident, if disinclined toward socializing, and that's why we think Rapunzel's chameleon buddy, Pascal, would be a good fit for her. Pascal's smart and thoughtful, much like Elsa, making them a great duo.
Dumbo and Genie
Dumbo, the adorable elephant with the big ears, has been an outcast since he was born. Over time, though, he learns that just by believing in himself, he can do wonderful, magical things. Think how much more magical he would be with a hilarious companion like Genie from Aladdin. The guys ripe with witticisms and he's got magic coming out the wazoo. You couldn't possibly convince us these two wouldn't make a good team!
Megara and Khan
After a series of heartbreaks and betrayals, Megara is reluctant to trust, even if she does a good job disguising her mistrust behind sarcastic remarks and a calm, cool and collected facade. With a steadfast steed like Mulan's horse, Khan, at her side, Megara would have a trusting companion at her side, boosting her confidence and just being there for her *tears up* and we just think that's really nice.
Alice and Heihei
Heihei, Moana's rooster and sailing buddy, is...well, he's very...okay, look, the bird is dumb. There's just no other way to put it. But, we will say this about that guy, he's determined. And since Alice—the curious, patient and accepting little girl who stumbled upon Wonderland—is so used to the madness, we see no reason why these two don't make a great fit for each other.
Pinocchio and the Cheshire Cat
Pinocchio's sole desire in life is to be a real boy, but we say his mischievous and impulsive devil-may-care nature already puts him more than halfway there. We contend this curious little puppet boy would be well-suited for a companion like the Cheshire Cat, who has got a reputation for being something of a troublemaker himself.
Aurora and Flower
Okay, to be fair, Princess Aurora spends a lot of her time asleep—but that's not by choice! She was cursed by a witch (which is kinda standard issue for a Disney princess), so we should cut her some slack. But in spite of being asleep most of the time, we know this princess is graceful, elegant, poised and a bit naive. Would this princess' curiosity pair well with the equally polite and ingenuous Flower?
Peter Pan and Flounder
If Peter Pan ever does decide to grow up, we predict he'll have great success as a car salesman because this guy is *great* at exaggerating. His charisma is enchanting, and though he can be self-centered, his confidence is irresistible. We wouldn't hesitate to give this guy a sidekick like Flounder, who, in spite of his own trepidation, has no qualms about facing his fears for his friends.
Merida and Dug
Merida is notoriously free-spirited and has as a razor sharp wit we wouldn't fancy being on the wrong side of. What this defiant, resilient girl needs is a trustworthy friend she can rely on in a pinch, and Dug more than fits that bill. Loyal, trusting and the goodest of good boys, Dug would be there for Princess Merida through thick and thin, as she would be for him.
Maui and flit
Ah, Maui. The only thing bigger than this guy is his ego. Fortunately, this guy sees some character development, going from boastful and conceited to charismatic and gregarious. Strength is definitely Maui's, well, *strong* point, but what about speed? Meh, not so much. So, why not team this guy up with Flit, the super fast, mischievous little hummingbird from Pocahontas? Could be interesting!
Russell and Bullseye
Bullseye, Sheriff Woody's trusty steed in Toy Story, is a caring and supportive friend, so that automatically makes him a great sidekick to any number of Disney heroes, but we say this equine's innocent nature and childlike mannerisms make him a suitable fit for Russell, the spunky, optimistic, adventurous boy hero from Up. But, what say you?
Wall-E and Boo
Curious and interested in everything around him, Wall-E has a glitch that has enabled him to develop human-like sentience. This robot is lonely, but he doesn't really realize it until he comes into contact with another robot. We would pair this gadget guy up with a sidekick like Boo, the energetic and affectionate little girl from Monsters, Inc. but, hey, that's just us.
Ralph and Mater
Though he's a sweet guy with a humble heart, Ralph has got a bit of a short fuse. His limited temper means he sometimes does things he regrets, but, then again, hey, don't we all do that? But, anyway, we think with a little mellow good-humor from a sidekick like Mater, Ralph would learn how to be more patient and use his superstrength powers for good.
Moana and Chip
Torn between helping her people and being true to herself, Moana is as compassionate as she is adventurous. When push comes to shove, she doesn't shy away from danger, preferring to charge headfirst into battle. With a little teacup like Chip at her side to be her personal cheerleader, we say there's no limit to what these two could do.
Sulley and Crush
James P. Sullivan, known as Sulley to all his friends, is a big, furry, blue monster who works on the scare floor of Monsters, Inc., and the guy is good at what he does. Typically A-OK with going with the flow, Sulley's not afraid to take a stand when he sees a wrong that needs to be righted. We think this guy would be great with a sidekick like Crush, who's all easy, breezy carefreesy.
Mike and Cogsworth
Go on, do it. Tell us Mike Wazowski and Cogsworth wouldn't be a great duo. We can just see these guys, getting drinks at the end of a long hard day of being lovable characters from Disney movies, complaining about all of the stuff they have to deal with regarding work and their partners, Sulley and Lumiere. As sensible, serious and strict as these two are, we bet they'd get along great.
Esmeralda and Lumiere
Lumiere is sociable, hospitable and accommodating, which come as no real surprise considering he totally nailed the song he's best known for, "Be Our Guest". We don't know, you guys, but something tells us that this guy would be a great second banana to the feisty, passionate and defiant Esmeralda of The Hunchback of Notre Dame. What do you think?
Jane and Cri-Kee
Eccentric, spontaneous and with an artistic soul, Jane Porter doesn't pay much mind to convention, which is exactly what you're not supposed to do if you're a lady living in the Victorian era. Camping out in the jungle with her dad studying gorillas is quite the adventure, one that Jane's totally up for, too, but we can't help but think that with a sidekick like Mulan's Cri-Kee, known for his unfailing luck even in the unluckiest of circumstances, would do her some good.
Lightning McQueen and Baloo
Once conceited and arrogant, Lightning McQueen sees some stellar character development and eventually transforms into a selfless and caring vehicle (who, we can only assume, gets great gas mileage, but that's just *our* head cannon). We figure this hero would find a great sidekick in Baloo, a laid back bear with a kind heart and a gentle nature. What do you think?
Baymax and Djali
Dedicated goat friend to Esmeralda, Djali's hobbies include being adorable and probably eating weeds since, again, he's a goat. Djali's a loyal little guy who has a pair of sassy pants for every day of the week which he's all too happy to wear. This goat guy would be a great friend for Baymax, the big, friendly robot of Big Hero 6 who selflessly serves others.
Pongo and Percy
Oh, snap, that's right! We totally did just pair up a dog and a dog. Pongo, Dalmatian dad of 101 Dalmatians, is loyal, like any good dog, but he's also playful, friendly and something of a goof-ball. We think these traits would bounce off of Percy the pug's snobbish, uppity personality beautifully! Well...maybe not *beautifully*, but definitely hilariously.
