Although the storylines and production value of a film makes an impression on the viewer, it is often the performance of the players on the screen that make the biggest mark. When an actor becomes known for a particular role, conventional wisdom might have movie fans believing that this is a good thing. However, that's not always the case.
Whether we're flipping through the channels on our TVs or thumbing through the queue on one of our favorite streaming services, certain movie titles start to earn a grunt and an eye roll or two from the customer. There are some films that movie fans just don't need to see again. Even some of the greatest actors of all time can't save these films from the saturation of their product.
This quiz will aim to not only test film fans on their movie knowledge, but will also help to determine what film has more than run its course in their movie watching life. This means that the thrill of discussing their favorite actor's best lines or most memorable scenes is no longer enjoyable. They've gotten to the point where they can't turn the TV or device off fast enough because that film has been so overplayed.
The movies in this quiz are still great films. However, they are also the ones that movie fans would no longer wish to take to a deserted island with them. Steve Carell is probably one of the most likable tv and movie personalities to emerge during the 21st Century. However, endless reruns of 40 Year Old Virgin can only be enjoyed for so long before it starts to get old. Although this is one of the best comedies ever made, it might be time for this one to be stored away in the archives for awhile.
Rate The Shawshank Redemption
Despite being a popular film upon its release, the Shawshank Redemption never quite achieved the acclaim that it should have thanks to the success of Forrest Gump. However, this hasn't stopped this film from being everywhere for the past several years. Morgan Freeman gives a great performance here, but endless reruns on tv might have finally caught up to this great film.
Rate Forgetting Sarah Marshall
It's hard to resist the everyman performances by Jason Segel. He is one of the most relatable actors on the small and big screens today. However, between endless reruns on cable and premium channels, this movie has seen more than its fair share of airtime. No matter how much movie fans might identify with his character Peter, it might be time to give this one a break for awhile.
Rate Titanic
Titanic might be the film that jump started Leonardo DiCaprio's career, but it is also the one project he's ever been involved with that many movie fans have had enough of. From enjoying a very long run at the movie theater to endless amounts of praise and reruns on the small screen, this is one ship that never seems to sink. After all of this, some movie fans are truly ready to let go of Jack, or at the very least press the pause button for awhile.
Rate Back To The Future
Michael J. Fox did a brilliant job portraying the role of time traveling teenager Marty McFly. However, some might argue that this film is a little too perfect. It has never been given much of a break from airplay or streaming services since it came out in theaters over 30 years ago. After all these years it might be time to send this one "back to the future" for awhile.
Rate Iron Man
Iron Man is one of those films that most superhero fans can agree on. As a result, it has also become one of those films that movie fans have seen on display more times than they can count on streaming services. Endless replays on cable tv haven't helped this great film either. Some might say this superhero needs to be given a break for awhile.

Unfortunately, this is a film that movie fans either love or hate. Those who love it have been rewarded with numerous reruns of it on tv over the years. However, even some of Will Ferrell's most devoted fans might admit that this film loses something after so much attention and reruns. Some might say it is time to give this Anchorman a vacation day or two before making his way back to the small screen.

However, Men In Black seems to be virtually everywhere on most tv guides. Although his performance in this film might be great, it might also be time to give this one a rest for awhile.

Tom Cruise is one of those actors who more or less define what it is to be a movie star. That type of reputation has earned him endless reruns of his films. Although several of his performances are good candidates for this quiz, it is Mission Impossible that seems "impossible" to escape from on streaming services and cable tv.

Jamie Foxx's performance in Ray is truly amazing. Some might say it is one of the greatest performances of this century so far. It has earned every accolade it has received. Although there are some very memorable performances by some big time talent in this film, it might be Samuel L. Jackson's performance that is the most memorable. Much like some other films on this list, it has been seen on cable tv over and over since it came out of theaters back in the mid 90's. Even a great film like this one loses its edge after a while.

The original trio of Spider-Man films starring Tobey MaGuire really resonated with super hero fans all over the world. The first two films were especially popular. Its family friendly, but action packed approach to telling the story of Peter Parker made it a perfect film for endless reruns on cable tv. Movie fans probably know every line at this point. It might be time to give this webslinger a break for awhile.
Rate The Hangover
Movie fans couldn't get enough of this classic film when it came out several years ago. Bradley Cooper's performance certainly validates why it reached that status. However, this one is very hard to avoid on cable tv. It's almost as if the title of this film has been burned into all tv guides across the world. It is time to give The Hangover a much needed rest from the airwaves.

Wedding Crashers is a hilarious film that movie fans couldn't stop talking about for a long time. TV networks took notice of this and decided to keep this one in reruns for the past several years. Today most movie fans would say that this is one wedding that has been crashed way too many times. Although Owen Wilson was great in this film, it might be time to give it a rest for awhile.
Rate Inglourious Basterds
There might not be a more brilliant portrayal of a villain than the one Christoph Waltz makes in this film. However, sometimes great performances can become a bad thing. Inglourious Basterds has been everywhere since it came out of theaters a decade ago. Movie fans who have the great lines in this film memorized will probably agree that this one needs a rest for awhile.
Rate Good Will Hunting
Matt Damon gave a brilliant performance in this film. However, much like some other films on this list, Good Will Hunting seems to be everywhere. So much so that movie fans who haven't even seen it yet might take it for granted and wait another day to watch it. That in itself proves that this film has had more than its fair share of airtime over the past twenty years.
Rate Liar Liar
Although this film might not seen quite as much airplay as it used to, it may still trigger memories of being overplayed in the past. Liar Liar might have some great moments and hilarious lines, but it has certainly seen more than its fair share of airings on cable tv. Several Jim Carrey movies would be good candidates for this quiz, but this overplayed classic comes out on top.

Adam Sandler is another comedic actor who seems to have several films that would qualify to be mentioned in this quiz. Pirates of the Caribbean is another film series that seems to go hand in hand with lazy weekend movie marathons. For some, just hearing that one of these films is on tv is enough for them to tune out. Not even a great performance by Johnny Depp can save this film series from its overplayed reputation.

It's quite possible that most movie fans didn't even know the real name of the actor who portray Napoleon Dynamite until they sat down to take this quiz. It's also possible that movie fans have also seen more than enough of this overplayed film. It is still seen virtually everywhere on cable tv to this day.

It is not uncommon for the Harry Potter series of films to be shown back to back on cable tv in one weekend. Sometimes the exact same film will be played multiple times in a row. As a result, movie fans are bound to be getting tired of what is otherwise a wonderful series of magical films.

Forrest Gump is probably a film that needs to introduction. Cable networks will sometimes run this movie over and over for 24 hours. That is how beloved this film is. It is also one of the most overplayed movies on tv. Despite being such a likable and quotable film, it is also one of those films that most people would be ok not seeing for a very long time.

Not many films say "overplayed" to a movie fan more than the ones that are about mob culture. Goodfellas is no exception to that rule. Just seeing the name of this film pop up on the tv guide will make most movie fans roll their eyes. This has nothing to do with the quality of the film. It's been floating around in the public domain for so long that it is easy to take it for granted.

At the very least, the first four Rocky films have more than seen their fair share of repeat airings on tv. Even non boxing fans can quote the lines in this film. It has inspired million of movie fans for generations. However, there aren't many out there who haven't seen at least one of the Rocky films due to how often they are played on cable tv.

Although Deadpool is a newer film franchise, it has already been overplayed quite a bit on premium movie channels. The advertising campaigns for these films are also pretty intense. As a result, It might have already run its course with movie fans. It is sure to be repeated quite a bit on cable tv in the future too.

It is not uncommon to see several of The Fast And The Furious films on the tv guide at one time. Although this series is highly entertaining, it is also one of the most overplayed film series out there. If movie fans feel the need to get their fix of one of the films in this series, they shouldn't have to look further than the tv guide in front of them.

It's Complicated is another one of those films that has been widely distributed. Virtually everybody has seen the movie poster featuring Alec Baldwin and Meryl Streep. At the very least, this one has already been all over streaming services for years. Even if some movie fans haven't seen it, they might not want to because of how much it has been advertised over the years.

Although Hugh Grant puts in a brilliant performance in this film, it is also one of those films that has been overplayed by cable networks. Most movie fans probably can't think of certain networks without this film coming to mind. Thankfully this film hasn't been found on streaming services too much. However, it has been played enough that most movie fans have at least heard of it.

Remember The Titans is another one of those artsy dramas that tends to get a lot of airplay on certain cable networks. It is the perfect film to watch on a saturday night while hanging out with friends. It is also a film that movie fans and their friends have watched together on countless occasions. This is one film that even non fans will remember simply because of how often it's been on cable tv.

The images of Jack Black holding a guitar are very famous in film history. That in itself may qualify it as an overplayed film. Although it has received plenty of airings on cable tv and availability on streaming services, it might be the advertising campaign that truly worked against this film. For some this might be a classic. For others, they might have had enough before they watched a frame of the film.

Pretty Woman has been a staple of cable tv for decades. Although it doesn't get the same kind of airplay it used to, some movie fans may still be getting over the endless amount of times they saw it on their tv guide for many years. There is a chance some might not be tired of it, but there is a good chance this one hasn't quite gotten through the overplayed phase just yet.
