When someone thinks of summer, a lot of things come to mind. For me, I think of barbecues, swimming pools, fireworks and of course ice cream. Is there anything better than a few scoops of cold creamy ice cream on a hot summer day? Whether it's in a cup, a bowl, or a cone, ice cream is one of the best frozen treats on a summer day. Or any day really.

Ice cream has been enjoyed by people for centuries, even since the Ancient Greeks whose version of "ice cream" was snow mixed with fruit and honey. And since then, there have been so many different flavors made, including flavors that are a little "out there". People have gone beyond the simple (but still delicious) flavors of chocolate and strawberry. Nowadays we have flavors like bubblegum, ginger and even squid ink! Yes, squid ink. There seems to be no limit to the flavors of ice cream being created. It all depends on a person's imagination and their taste buds.

In these last few days of summer, tell us if these ice cream flavors are "yummy or yucky" and we'll recommend the perfect tropical getaway.

Good old vanilla, can't really go wrong with it. It isn't the most "wild" of flavors but it is still one of the most popular flavors in the United States. It works as a base for just about any flavor a person could want and it is delicious all on its own.

Chocolate chip ice cream mixes together two very good things; vanilla ice cream and chocolate chips. I find that it's a good middle ground for people who want something with a little more flavor than vanilla, but don't want the full richness of chocolate ice cream. Butter pecan ice cream is another delicious ice cream that is very popular in the United States. It is the nation's third favorite ice cream flavor and the flavor itself originated there. It has a slightly buttery flavor that pairs well with vanilla, and the chunks of roast pecans folded into it adds a nice nutty flavor.

Personally, I didn't like strawberry ice cream until I was well into my adulthood. And boy have I been missing out on something! Durian is a fruit from Southeast Asia that has a spiky outer shell. It is notorious for being a very... smelly fruit. At first glance, the ice cream pictured above looks like simple vanilla ice cream. But anyone expecting that will be in for a big savory surprise. The Gilroy Garlic Festival in Gilroy California gives out free samples of this ice cream. Sometimes it's even paired with food items like steak and treated like a sauce.

For those that don't know what foie gras is, its a dish made from duck or goose liver. Its considered to be a luxury food item and a controversial one since it involves force feeding the animal with a feeding tube to "fatten up" their liver. Avocados have made their way into a lot of different foods lately, and ice cream is included on that list. Anyone that's Canadian, or that's lived in Canada for awhile will probably recognize this ice cream flavor. No, it's not made with tiger tails or any parts of a tiger at all, it just resembles the patterns on one. It's actually an orange flavored ice cream with black licorice swirls that give it that distinct look.

Lemon in ice cream isn't that strange. Especially in summer, it can be considered a seasonal flavor. But lemon basil? Apparently when basil is put into ice cream, it takes on a more "minty" flavor, so maybe lemon basil ice cream is the perfect treat to beat the heat.

Especially since only people who are at least 18 years old, and who sign a liability waiver, can even get a taste.

Now, I'm going to be honest here. I love sriracha, it has to be one of my favorite type of sauces and I have a t-shirt to prove my love of it. This chili sauce comes from Thailand, one of the countries that is famous for its spicy dishes. But I'm not sure if my love for sriracha will make me try it as an ice cream flavor. But it works for other people.

But there are people out there who love fruitcake, so there's bound to ones who like this ice cream flavor.

It comes from New Zealand and is vanilla ice cream with little balls or honeycomb toffee in it. The term "hokey pokey" is what New Zealanders call honeycomb toffee. And that's what its all about.

And it makes for delicious ice cream and milkshakes too. Just make sure to grab a spoon with that milkshake.

Popcorn is pretty good. And, if there isn't a lot of butter and salt added to it, it can be a pretty healthy snack. But there are ways to make popcorn even better, and kettle corn does just that. Whether it's covered in caramel or powdered sugar, kettle corn has that delicious salty-sweet tastes that makes it hard to stop eating it. And making it an ice cream flavor makes it even better.
