Actresses who frequently star in horror films (either as the victim, protagonist or final girl) are often referred to as scream queens.
Now it might seem that these ladies don't have that much to do when it comes to acting but there's more that goes into being a memorable scream queen than just looking scared and getting covered in gross stuff. These characters need to be believable and likeable, or else the audience won't really care if the bad guys get them or not!
Famous scream queens include Jamie Lee Curtis from the Halloween franchise, Neve Campbell (The Craft and the Scream franchise), Jennifer Love Hewitt (I Know What You Did Last Summer films) and Sarah Michelle Gellar (The Grudge).
Today's modern scream queens include actresses like Anya Taylor-Joy(Split and The Witch), Chloë Grace Moretz (The Amityville Horror, Carrie, Let Me In), Sara Paxton (Last House on the Left) and Vera Farmiga (The Conjuring franchise).

Thomasin (The Witch)
Anya Taylor-Joy is a scream queen on the rise, best known for her roles in horror films like Split and this 2015 release, The Witch. In this film, the talented actress played the role of a young Puritan woman who is suspected of witchcraft after her little brother goes missing.
The Nun (Conjuring series)

Annie Wilkes (Misery)
This character is quite significant when it comes to the world of horror movies. Kathy Bates won the 1990 Academy Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of the psycho fan Annie Wilkes in Misery which makes this the only Oscar-winning Stephen King movie (so far). She certainly deserved it though, she made us all cringe!
Karen Davis (The Grudge)
We've got to hand it to Sarah Michelle Gellar's character in The Grudge. She went to investigate noises that not many people would have, and she did it in a house she didn't even know that well. But yeah, that didn't exactly work out great for her.
