Walt Disney created the Disney company back in the early 1900s. He originally started with the mascot, who we all know today as Mickey Mouse. Mickey was the first character that Walt created, and was the first to be featured in short television clips. Since this early start, Disney has developed into a company that is not only known for its movies but also for its television series, products, and theme parks. Disney is a household name for kids and adults, all around the world.
Disney has produced and created dozens of films since their first movie that was produced in 1937. Some of these movies are totally original, while others are based on popular fairy tales. Either way, Disney finds a way to make the movies intense and memorable for all audiences.
These films pretty much go the same way, every time: there is a hero that is learning how to actually be a hero, and a villain that is threatening everything the hero stands for. Tangled is a 2010 computer-animated musical film produced through Walt Disney Pictures. The movie tells the story of Rapunzel. She has been trapped in a tower since she was a baby. Her 'mother,' took her from her home as a baby when she realized that Rapunzel had magical hair that has healing and youthful abilities. As her sixteenth birthday is approaching, Rapunzel is desperate to get out of the tower and see the floating lights. She begins the adventure of a lifetime with a man she isn't sure she can trust, Flynn Rider.
Up is a Disney animated film from the year 2009. It tells the story of Carl Fredrickson, who is 78 years old. He lives alone and is a widow, and he misses his wife, Ellie. He works as a balloon salesman, who has been working to fulfill his lifelong dream. He decides to tie thousands of balloons to his house, to fly to his vacation destination of South America. Carl has a realization while traveling, that Russell, a boy scout, has stowed away on the house and is now thousands of miles from home.
The Princess and the Frog:
The Princess and the Frog is a 2009 Disney animated film. It tells the story of Tiana, who is a woman that lives in New Orleans. She works as a waitress, and is extremely hardworking. She has dreams of opening the finest restaurant in New Orleans. She meets Prince Naveen, who was turned into a frog by Dr. Facilier. He believes that she is a princess, and kisses her to break the spell. This turned her into a frog as well, and the two work together to get help and return back to their human forms.
The Fox and the Hound:
The Fox and the Hound is a 1981 Disney animated film. It is based on a book of the same name. This film tells the stories of Tod and Copper. Tod is an orphaned fox, who is taken in by the kind Widow Tweed. In his new home, he has a neighbor, Copper. Copper is a hound puppy, that is owned by Amos Slade. The two of them grow to be best friends, but most overcome their natural instincts to dislike each other to preserve their friendship.
Inside Out is a 2015 animated film produced by Walt Disney Pictures. It tells the story of Riley, who is an 11-year-old girl living in the Midwest. She is happy, and loves her life. Her world is changed forever when she and her parents move to San Francisco. Riley has emotions, which are led by Joy. They do their best to get her through the life-altering event, but the stress of the move has brought Sadness to the front of the group.
Wall-E is a 2008 animated film that was created through Walt Disney Pictures. Wall-E is the main character, which stands for Waste Allocation Load Lifter - Earth Class. His job is to spend all day cleaning up the planet. Humans no longer inhabit the Earth, but are waiting for the day they can move back. Wall-E has been cleaning for 700 years, and has developed a personality. He meets EVE, who is on Earth for a scanning mission. He falls for her, and heads on a huge adventure following her across the universe.
Aladdin is a 1992 animated film produced through Walt Disney Pictures. It was created during the period known as the Disney Renaissance. This film tells the story of Aladdin, who is a man living in the city, with little to no money. He discovers a lamp, from which he frees a genie. He gets three wishes, and wants to use them to convince Princess Jasmine to fall in love with him. He finds out that Jafar has other plans, and must save her from him.
The Lion King:
The Lion King is a Disney animated film from 1994. It tells the tale of Simba, a young lion that is new to the world. His parents, Mufasa and Sarabi are excited to welcome him to the pride. He learns the ways of life, and learns the way to rule. His uncle, Scar, is annoyed he is not next in line for the throne any longer. Scar plans to get rid of Mufasa and Simba, but things don't go as planned. Simba grows up, and must return to his home land to save the pride.
Beauty and the Beast:
Beauty and the Beast is an animated film from 1991, and was recreated into a live action film in 2017. The movie is about Belle, who is a beautiful woman living in a boring town. Her father goes missing, and she sets out to find him. She discovers that he was captured by The Beast, and trades places with him. The Beast must find true love to return to his human form, and gets a little help from his enchanted servants to build a connection between him and Belle.
Frozen is a 2013 animated film produced through Walt Disney Pictures. The movie is about Anna and Elsa, two sisters who are opening up their kingdom to the world again now that Elsa is old enough to be the Queen. She has magical powers, and accidentally puts a spell on the city. Anna and Kristoff go after her, to bring her back home and reverse the spell. Their adventure includes danger and magic, but they would do anything to save the kingdom.
Dumbo is a 1941 animated film, that was recreated into a live action film in 2019. Dumbo is a young elephant that is living with a circus group. He has large ears, which earned him the nickname Dumbo. One day while at a show, he was taunted by a group of children. His mother got upset, and went into a rage that got her locked away. His large ears caused an accident that hurt other elephants, for which they made him dress like a clown and do dangerous stunts. He learns he is able to fly and astounds every person when he shows them his talent.
Toy Story is a Disney animated film that was produced in 1995. It has led to three more movies in the series, with number four being released later in 2019. In Toy Story, Woody is a cowboy doll that belongs to Andy. He is Andy's favorite toy, and he takes his job seriously. Andy's parents buy him an action figure, Buzz Lightyear, which may take the place as Andy's new favorite. The two dislike each other, but must work together to escape the neighbor and make it to the new house with Andy.
Wreck-It Ralph is a 2012 animated movie from Disney. It tells the story of Ralph, who is a character from an arcade game called Wreck-It Ralph. He is voiced by John C. Reilly. Ralph always loses to the good guy in the game, Fix-It Felix. He has lived for decades seeing Felix get all the glory, and wants to take matters into his own hands. He goes on an adventure traveling between different games, to prove that he is a hero. While doing this, he unleashes an enemy that is a threat to the whole arcade!
Coco is a 2017 animated film from Disney. It features the holiday, Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead. Miguel has dreams of being a musician, like his idol Ernesto de la Cruz. His family has a strict ban on music though. He wants to prove his talent, but lands himself in the colorful Land of the Dead. He meets Hector, who agrees to help Miguel get home. The two go on a journey, and end up discovering the truth about Miguel's family history.
The Incredibles is a family of superheroes that starred in the film of the same name in 2004. The family includes Mr. Incredible, and Elastigirl, who have been forced to live regular lives after being banned by the government. The two have three children, Violet, Dash, and Jack-Jack. Mr. Incredible loves his life, but wants to live a life of adventure once again. He goes to an island on a secret mission, but gets into some trouble that causes him to rely on his family to save him.
Moana is a 2016 animated film. It tells the story of Moana, who lives on an island. Her people are struggling, as their food sources are starting to disappear. She decides to go on an adventure, to look for Maui. He is a demigod, that has the Heart of Te Fiti, which is supposed to save the island. The two of them team up and sail across the ocean, to find the heart, and return it to ensure the island and all of Moana's people will be safe.
Zootopia is a 2016 animated film from Disney. The movie focuses on the lives of Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde. Judy is a rabbit, who has big dreams of joining the police force. This is something that is unheard of for rabbits, but she works hard and makes it in anyway. Judy is not taken seriously, but coerces her way on the big case in the city. She teams up with Nick Wilde, a fox who only worries about himself, to figure out the truth about the missing animals.
Finding Nemo is a 2003 animated film from Disney's Pixar. Nemo is being raised by only his father, Marlin. He is overprotective, and Nemo is constantly trying to prove his independence. In his latest stunt, he is captured by a diver and brought somewhere else. Marlin travels all over the ocean where he meets sharks, jellyfish, turtles, and other dangers, with another fish named Dory, who has short term memory loss. Marlin is desperate to find his son, and bring him back home safely.
Bolt is an animated film from 2008. Bolt is a superstar dog, that stars as a superhero in a television series. He doesn't know this, and thinks his powers are real. On accident, he is shipped from his Hollywood set, to the streets of New York City. He goes on an adventure to find his owner, Penny. He only has two things to help him get home: his delusions of having superpowers, and his two friends, a cat named Mittens and a hamster named Rhino.
Chicken Little is a 2005 animated Disney film. It tells the story of Chicken Little, who is a young chicken. He lives in a small town, which he greatly disrupts when he causes a huge panic claiming that the sky is falling. The town is angry with him, after he cannot find the piece of the sky that hit him. A year later, he joins a baseball team to redeem himself. He is hit on the head again, but this time it is actually a UFO. He must not try and convince the town they are about to be invaded by aliens.
The Little Mermaid:
The Little Mermaid is a Disney animated film from 1998. It tells the story of Ariel, who is the daughter of King Triton. She is a mermaid, that has a fascination with people on land. She travels up to the shore often, despite her father telling her she is not allowed to do so. On her latest visit up, she sees Prince Eric, and completely falls for him. Ariel gives up her voice to get a chance to meet Eric, and only has three days to get him to fall for her, otherwise she will lose her life.
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs:
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was produced in 1937, and was the first feature film created by Walt Disney Pictures. Snow White is a beautiful princess, and the wicked queen is jealous of her step daughter. She plans to take the life of Snow White, but the failed attempt led to Snow White living in a small cottage with seven miners. She decides to try again, bringing a poisoned apple for Snow White to eat. She falls into a slumber, which can only be ended by a kiss from a prince.
Lady and the Tramp:
Lady and the Tramp is a 1955 animated film from Walt Disney Pictures. It tells the story of Lady, who is a spoiled cocker spaniel. Her life is wonderful, and she is the light of her owner's life. That is until they welcome a baby into the world. Lady finds herself loose and on the street. She meets Tramp, who is a tough street mutt that protects her. The two of them grow closer, and even begin a romance. Things are complicated by more than just their differences in class.
Mulan is a 1998 animated film from Walt Disney Pictures. Mulan is a girl living under a patriarchal regime. China is about to head into war, and she is afraid that her old father will be drafted. Mulan takes his place, even though she is not allowed to serve. She impersonates a man, and goes to training with the other recruits. She is with her dragon, Mushu, who is supposed to help her. Mulan uses her intelligence to help ward off an invasion, and she falls in love with a captain along the way!
101 Dalmatians is an animated film from 1961. It was recreated into a live action film in the year 1996. In the films, Pongo is a single dog that meets Perdita at a park. He maneuvers his owner, Roger, into meeting Perdita's owner, Anita. The owners fall in love, as the two dogs fall in love as well. Perdita gives birth to a large litter of 15 puppies! Anita has an old friend, Cruella, who wants to buy all of the puppies. When the couple declines, Cruella plans to steal them, and other puppies, to create a fur coat.
Lilo and Stitch:
Lilo and Stitch is a 2002 animated film from Disney. It tells the story of a child, named Lilo. She is lonely, and living in Hawaii with her sister. Her sister decides to let her adopt a dog, and she ends up choosing an ugly, extraterrestrial 'dog.' She names him Stitch, and he would be an okay pet if he weren't a genetic experiment that escaped his home planet. She loves him, and is convinced the two of them are together for a reason. Lilo convinces Stitch of the idea of family, and he learns to care for someone else other than himself.
Peter Pan is an animated film from 1953. It tells the story of Wendy, who is a child with two brothers. The three of them meet Peter Pan, who is a boy in search of his shadow. He and his friend, Tinkerbell, come from Neverland. This is a place where children stay young forever. The kids follow him back, and think they have found the best place ever. That is until they start to miss home, and must go through some trouble to get back.
Marry Poppins is a Disney animated film from 1964. It was recreated in a film called Mary Poppins Returns in 2011. In the movie, Jane and Michael are children in the Banks family. They are dreading finding out who their new nanny is, but are happily surprised when they meet Mary Poppins. She has magical abilities, and is able to take the children on fantastic adventures with her friend, Bert. The siblings try to spread some of her positive attitude to their busy parents.
Bambi is a Disney animated film from 1942. It tells the story of Bambi, who loses his mother to a hunter in the forest. Because of this, he joins a group of new friends that include Thumper, a rabbit, and Flower, a skunk. The two help him navigate his forest home. He is aware of the dangers all around him, from what he was taught by his mother and his father when he was young. He meets a doe named Faline, and falls for her.
Hercules is a Disney animated film from 1997. It borrows a storyline from Greek Mythology. Hercules is a son of the gods, but was taken as a baby by Hades. He was forced to grow up with the mortals, as a half-man, half-god. He is now a teenager, and must prove he is worthy of living with the gods on Mount Olympus. He has Philoctetes by his side and is learning how to use his strength to defeat some bad creatures along the way.
Pocahontas is an animated film from Disney, that was created in 1995. It tells the story of the title character, Pocahontas. She is an Indigenous person, that is dealing with new settlers. Captain John Smith has journeyed to the New World, to begin a fresh life with other men. Pocahontas' father is Chief Powhatan, who is protective of his daughter. This protection grows when she starts to fall for Captain John Smith. The new couple has a lot against them, can they make it through?
The Emperor's New Groove:
The Emperor's New Groove is an animated film from Disney, that was released in 2000. It tells the story of Emperor Kuzco, who is a young and arrogant leader. His advisor is Yzma, who is a total diva with her heart set on being the queen. She accidentally transforms him into a llama, instead of taking his life. Now, Kuzco must team up with a peasant named Pacha to get back to the kingdom before Yzma tracks him down or takes the throne.
The Jungle Book:
The Jungle Book was originally released as an animated film in 1967. It was recreated in 2016 as a live action film. Both movies tell the story of Mowgli, who is a man-cub that was raised by a family of wolves since he was a baby. He is growing up, and being forced out of the only home he knows by Shere Khan. Now, Mowgli must travel with Bagheera to find a new place to live. Along the way he meets a ton of jungle animals, trying to find the right place for him.
Alice in Wonderland:
Alice in Wonderland is a Disney animated film from 1951. It was created into a live action film in 2010. Both movies tell the tale of Alice. She is a girl that falls down a rabbit hole. She ends up entering a magical world. While here, she meets a few weird characters, including the Cheshire Cat, the Mad Hatter, and the White Rabbit. Alice lands in the court of the Queen of Hearts, where she must stay on the queen's good side or she may lose her head!
Tarzan is an animated Disney film from 1995. Tarzan is an orphaned baby in the wilderness. He is found by Kala, a gentle gorilla, who brings him home to raise as her own. Tarzan knows nothing of the outside world. A group of scientists enters the jungle to study gorillas, and Tarzan meets Jane. He recognizes that he is like her, as a human, and falls in love with her. Tarzan is torn between embracing civilization, or staying with the only family he knows.
Robin Hood is an animated Disney film from 1973. The movie features Alan-a-Dale, who tells the story of a hero named Robin Hood, and his sidekick, Little John. In the story, Prince John makes the Sheriff of Nottingham a Deputy. He only does this to collect high amounts of taxes from all of the animals living in the Sherwood Forest. Robin Hood, Little John, and other merry men begin to fight a lighthearted battle against Prince John and the Sheriff, to avoid paying those crazy taxes.
Monsters Inc. is a Disney Pixar film from 2001. The movie features main characters James P. Sullivan, Sulley, and Mike Wazowski. These two work together at an energy plant, where Sulley is Employee of the Month. This plant provides energy for the entire city, by scaring human children. Monsters are actually afraid of humans, because they are believed to be toxic. When a girl escapes her room and lands herself in the factory, Sulley and Mike struggle to keep it a secret, and get her back home safe.
The Aristocats is a 1970 animated Disney film. In the story, a retired opera singer passes away, and leaves her full inheritance to her cat, Dutchess, and her three kitchens. The woman's butler is furious, and plans to abandon the cats in the country to inherit the fortune for himself. Dutchess and the kittens are lost, but meet Thomas O'Malley, an alley cat that will help them get back home. They meet some strange characters along the way, but are determined to make it back home.
The Hunchback of Notre Dame:
The Hunchback of Notre Dame is an animated Disney film from 1996. It tells the story of Quasimodo, who is disfigured, and is the bell ringer of the Notre Dame Cathedral. He spends his time being locked away in the tower, with only gargoyles to keep him company. Quasimodo wants to be with other people, and this leads to him meeting Gypsy Esmeralda. She is so beautiful, she catches the eye of Quasimodo's guardian, Frodo. To protect her from Frodo, Quasimodo must do what he can to keep him away from her.
Pinocchio is a 1940 Disney animated film. The movie begins with Geppetto, a woodworker, seeing a shooting star. He makes a wish that the puppet he just created, Pinocchio, could turn into a real boy. During the night, the Blue Fairy, grants Geppetto's wish and asks Jiminy Cricket to act as the conscience of the wooden boy. Because he is so naive, Pinocchio ends up getting into the hands of the wicked Honest John, who is taking him to the sinful Pleasure Island to be sold.
Maleficent is a live-action Disney film from 2014. Angelina Jolie stars as the title character, Maleficent. She is a beautiful woman, with a wonderful life in the forest kingdom. An army is threatening to invade her land. She rises up and becomes a fierce protector of the home she knows. However, Maleficent is betrayed, and this causes her to focus on revenge. She begins a battle with the invading king's successor, and curses his newborn baby, Aurora. She realizes later that Aurora holds the key to reaching peace in the kingdom.
Brave is an animated Disney movie from 2012. It tells the story of Merida, who is the daughter of the Scottish King, Fergus, and Queen Elinor. She is a skilled archer, that wants to create her own pathway in life. She is not willingly participating in the age-old traditions, which angers the lords and begins to cause utter chaos in the kingdom. Merida looks for help, and finds it in a witch who grants her a wish. Merida is now forced to learn what courage means, and undo the curse before it is too late.
Big Hero 6:
Big Hero 6 is an animated Disney film from 2014. Hiro is a robotics prodigy, that is living in the city of San Fransokyo. Hiro is pretty alone, aside from his older brother Tadashi, and Baymax. The purpose of Baymax is to take care of people, as it is a robot. Hiro goes through some events, which lead him into a dangerous situation. He turns Baymax and his friends into a group of heroes that use technology to help them out of trouble.
The Good Dinosaur:
The Good Dinosaur is an animated Disney film from 2015. It tells the story of Arlo, a young dinosaur whose family includes two siblings and his parents. A rainstorm occurs, that washes Arlo down a river. He is hurt, and is now miles away from his home and family. He is scared, but then meets Spot. Spot is a Neanderthal boy, that offers to help Arlo out. The two are an unlikely pair, but they begin the journey to bring Arlo back to his family.
A Wrinkle in Time:
A Wrinkle in Time is a 2018 film that was based on a book. In the movie, Meg Murry and her brother have been missing their father for five years. Mr. Murry, has discovered a new planet and used a tesseract to travel there. Meg, her brother, and Calvin, are guided by three astral travelors, Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Which. The children begin a dangerous trip to reach the planet where their father is, but also contains a lot of bad things in the universe.
Christopher Robin is a 2018 live action film from Walt Disney Pictures. It tells the story of Christopher Robin, who is now an adult man that lives in London with his own family. Christopher gets a surprise visit from his old childhood friend, Winnie the Pooh. Pooh has lost his friends, and is seeking help from Christopher to find them. Pooh goes on a journey to look for Tigger, Eeyore, Owl, Piglet, Rabbit, Kanga, and Roo. Once they are all together again, the group finds Christopher again to help him find joy in his life.
Bedtime Stories is a 2008 live-action film from Walt Disney Pictures. The movie stars Adam Sandler as Skeeter Bronson, who is a hotel handyman. He gets a surprise when he realizes that the stories he tells his niece and nephew at bedtime are coming true. Skeeter wants to make the most of this weird phenomenon, and brings crazy stories to life over and over. The children add things to the stories, which end up making Skeeter's life more difficult and confusing!
Race to Witch Mountain:
Race to Witch Mountain is a live-action Disney film from 2009. It stars Dwayne Johnson as Jack Bruno, who is a taxi driver in Las Vegas. He picks up Sara, played by AnnaSophia Robb, and Seth, played by Alexander Ludwig. The two are extraterrestrials that have paranormal powers. They are trying to prevent an invasion of Earth, and ask Jack to bring them to their ship. The ship is buried in Witch Mountain, which is not an easy task in itself. Things get complicated with government operatives and a bounty hunter is after them!
Ratatouille is an animated Disney film from 2007. The film focuses on the story of Remy, a rat living on the streets of Paris. He has big dreams of being a great chef, even through he is a rat in a profession that is against any vermin. He is following his dream despite this, and teams up with a boy named Linguini that works in a famous restaurant. Remy uses Linguini as a body, to let him cook while hiding at the same time. Remy struggles staying a secret when the head chef becomes curious about the situation.
The Nightmare Before Christmas:
The Nightmare Before Christmas is a claymation film created by Tim Burton for Disney in 1993. The movie tells the story of Jack Skellington. He is the pumpkin king of Halloweentown, but has grown bored of the same annual routine surrounding the holiday. He goes on a walk one day through the woods to clear his head, and stumbles on the doors to other holidays. Jack ventures into Christmastown, and discovers a whole new life. He wants to take over the role of Santa Claus, but sees that even great plans can go seriously wrong.
