A scream queen is an actress who is known for her roles in these films. This can either be from one notable performance (like Sara Paxton in The Last House on the Left) or recurring roles in spooky movies or even TV shows. Some of the most notable of these actresses over the last three decades include Jamie Lee Curtis from the Halloween movie franchise, Neve Campbell from the Scream franchise, and Sarah Michelle Gellar from The Grudge film series. Popular contemporary genre actresses include actresses like Chloë Grace Moretz, Vera Farmiga, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Maika Monroe.
In order to be a successful queen of scream, actresses need to know how to convey emotion and really make the audience feel for them. But while they are acting vulnerable they also need to be tough and smart enough to survive until the credits roll. If they aren't able to make the audience care about the characters that they portray the movie stands little chance of becoming a success. The ladies featured in this quiz have all managed to get that right!

This talented actress is one of the most recognizable contemporary scream queens known for her work on films in The Conjuring Series. She won a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for her role as Norma Bates in the hit show Bates Motel and has also acted in a number of drama and thriller flicks.

Emma Roberts (who is the niece of Julia Roberts) has appeared in movies such as Wild Child, Valentine's Day, The Art of Getting By, Scream 4, We're the Millers, and Nerve. Jennifer Love Hewitt became popular as Sarah Reeves Merrin in the teen drama Party of Five in the late 90's. During this time she also starred in the flick I Know What You Did Last Summer and its sequel. She's also appeared on shows such as Ghost Whisperer, The Client List, and Criminal Minds.

This actress (who Maxim named "TV's most beautiful woman" in 2013) rose to prominence in the early 2000's playing the daughter of Jack Bauer in the action series 24. She also has quite a few movie credits under her belt, including a few starring roles. Horror fans might remember her as Carly in House of Wax or from films such as Captivity and The Quiet.

Although she's appeared in movies across all genres, including titles such Pearl Harbor, Serendipity, and The Aviator, Kate Beckinsale has also made a name for herself as somewhat of a scream queen thanks to her starring role as Selene in the Underworld film series. Fans might also remember her from Van Helsing and Total Recall.
