Explosions, car chases, hilarious one-liners... These are the elements that make up any great action film. Throw some magnetic stars into the mix and its a recipe for a great time. Action films can stretch into any kind of genre, from spy thrillers to science-fiction. Everyone has their favorites, and they can come from any era, whether its the 80s, 90s, or even within the last few years. So which action movies hold up best over time?
There are some that stay just as good, no matter when they were made or how many times a person has seen them. A good action movie is timeless, and if it is made well, then it will stand up to any special-effects extravaganza that has come out recently. Of course, there are plenty of filmmakers now who are taking the more traditional action path with more stunts and practical effects.
Captain America: Civil War
After a mission goes wrong, the Avengers are forced into an agreement known as the Sokovia Accords, which dictate when they will be deployed for missions. Captain America and Tony Stark disagree about the usefulness of these accords, and the heroes find themselves taking sides and fighting against each other.
Justice League
Superman is gone, and the world is in danger. Batman knows that the only way the Earth will survive is if he can gather up as many heroes as he can. With the help of Wonder woman, he tracks down the world's best heroes to take on the villains Steppenwolf.
Baby Driver
Baby is the best in the business at what he does: driving the getaway car for a gang of bank robbers. However, he also has tinnitus and loves to listen to music as he orchestrates thrilling escapes from the police. When he begins to fall in love, his life becomes more complicated than ever.
Mission: Impossible - Fallout
Ethan Hunt and the IMF team are thrown back into another mission to save the world. This time around, they are dealing with a familiar enemy, as well as an unknown one. They are forced to work with a CIA agent who is put in charge of how they handle the mission.
Mad Max: Fury Road
In this continuation of the Mad Max saga, Max finds himself captured by a group of engine-worshippers and taken to a desert stronghold. At the same time, a skilled driver named Furiosa is planning to escape with a group of women. Max finds himself working with Furiosa and planning his own escape.
Captain Marvel
Carol Danvers was once an ace test pilot, but she has no idea. All she remembers is being part of the Kree homeworld and being trained to be the ultimate fighter in the war against the shapeshifting Skrulls. When she returns to Earth, she teams up with Nick Fury to figure out what is really going on.
Venom
Eddie Brock is an average freelance reporter who is working on a story about a massive corporation and what it might be hiding behind its walls. When he gets in too deep, he is fused with an alien symbiote and given the ability to turn into a powerful monster, albeit one that (sort of) helps people.
Skyfall
James Bond faces his toughest mission yet when he is tasked with taking on a former MI6 agent named Silva. Silva has a personal vendetta against the organization and its leader, which means that Bond has to work closely with M, as well as another field agent in order to bring him down.
The Predator
It's been years since the last Predator visited Earth, and unbeknownst to mercenary McKenna, there are people who know all about them. Teaming up with a ragtag group of former soldiers, McKenna sets out to find the Predator, as well as the larger predator chasing it, and bring them both in for experimentation.
Thor: Ragnarok
Thor finds himself in unfamiliar territory when he is stranded on the planet Sakaar after confronting his sister, Hela. There, Thor is forced into the gladiator ring, where he runs into an old friend, the Hulk. Together, the two Avengers team up (with the help of new Asgardian ally Valkyrie) and attempt to escape.
Django Unchained
Django is a slave who is given a new lease on life when he is rescued by bounty hunter (and dentist) Dr. King Schultz. Django learns from Schultz how to be a bounty hunter, and together they set out on a journey to find Django's wife and rescue her from slave owner Calvin Candy.
21 Jump Street
Jenko and Schmidt are two cops who just can't seem to get anything right. After their latest mishap, they are reassigned to the Jump Street unit, where they are given the task of posing as high-schoolers in order to infiltrate a criminal organization. The film is based on a classic TV show and pokes fun at the idea of reboots.
Shazam
Billy Batson is an orphan who gets a second chance with a new foster family. After saving his new foster brother from some mean kids at school, Billy is transported to a wizard's lair and given the power to turn into a superhero when he says the word 'Shazam!' However, Billy doesn't quite know how to use his powers properly and must get help from his brother Freddy.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Years after Luke Skywalker and the Rebels defeated the empire, a new threat has emerged in the galaxy: the First Order. Fighting against them is the resistance, a new group of heroes led by Leia Organa. They are joined by a force-sensitive orphan named Rey and a former Stormtrooper named Finn.
Rampage
Based on the classic video game, Rampage is all about giant predators destroying the city. This includes George, a rare albino gorilla, whose trainer, Davis (played by Dwayne Johnson), is determined to keep George alive and help get him back to normal. Unfortunately, that won't be easy, considering George has become highly aggressive.
Iron Man
In the film that kickstarted the MCU, Tony Stark, a wealthy arms dealer, finds himself captured by enemy forces. He uses his knowledge of technology to build a giant battlesuit and escape. When he returns home, he develops an even better version of the suit and uses it to help the world.
Bumblebee
In this prequel to the Transformers movies, Bumblebee winds up on Earth in 1987. There, he is found by a girl named Charlie, who wants to keep him safe from the people who would do him harm. Meanwhile, a pair of Decepticons convince the army to help them find Bumblebee.
The Dark Knight
The Caped Crusader is in for the fight of his life when Gotham City is beset upon by a new and totally unpredictable enemy. Slathered in makeup and calling himself Joker, this new villain begins working with Gotham's crime families, but really all he wants to do is bring down Batman.
Skyscraper
It was supposed to be one of the most technologically advanced and safe buildings ever created, but when a group of criminals infiltrates The Pearl and sets fire to it, Will, a former soldier and security consultant, is framed for it. However, he must get back into the building and save his family before it's too late.
Inception
Set in a world where a person's dreams can be infiltrated, a team of professionals trained in 'extraction,' the theft of ideas through dreams, is contracted to do exactly the opposite, to plant an idea in someone's head. However, the mission proves dangerous, as the team comes up against subconscious forces and dangerous memories.
Wonder Woman
Diana grew up on the island of Themyscira, home to the Amazons, a race of female warriors trained from an early age to fight. However, Diana finds herself pulled into mortal conflict when a pilot, Steve Trevor, crashes on the island and tells her about the Great War. Diana decides to fight for humanity.
Speed
When a madman plants an explosive device on a bus, it is triggered to go off if the vehicle slows below 55 miles per hour. One daring cop is sent to keep the people on the bus safe and to figure out a way to get them off of the bus without stopping.
The Matrix
When an average computer programmer/hacker is given the opportunity to learn the truth of his existence, he is pulled into the real world, where he learns that his existence has only ever taken place in a massive computer simulation known as the Matrix. Together with a group of other people, the programmer takes on the machines and their nefarious programs known as Agents.
Ant-Man
Scott Lang is an ex-con with a master's degree in electrical engineering. After he breaks into the home of prominent scientist Hank Pym, he steals a suit which gives him the ability to shrink. Scott learns how to use the suit from Hope, Pym's daughter, and uses it to find a way to stop a corporation from using the technology for the wrong reasons.
Terminator 2: Judgment Day
Years after the first terminator came back in time to take out John Connor, a new, more advanced terminator is sent to do the job. Luckily, this time a teenage John Connor has his own terminator to protect him. With the help of his mother, Sarah, John and his terminator try to find a way to prevent the machine takeover.
Jurassic Park
A group of people is given the opportunity to visit /John Hammond's newest theme park, one which promises to change the world. When they arrive, the visitors discover that the park is populated by dinosaurs. Unfortunately, as one visitor notes, nature does not want to be contained, and the dinosaurs manage to escape their confines.
John Wick
John wick may have been one of the best hitmen in the world, but now he has retired, and just wants to live a life of peace with his new puppy. Unfortunately, that life is disrupted by a group of young punks who break into John's house and take his puppy away from him. What results is an unstoppable rampage by the man criminals call Baba Yaga.
Hot Fuzz
Nicholas Angel is by far the best cop on the force in London, but he's making all of the other officers look bad. He is transferred to a small community where there is virtually no crime. At least, that's how it seems at first, but soon, with the help of his new partner Danny, Nicholas discovers that the town is hiding a secret.

Brian Mills is pulled out of retirement when his daughter is taken by some very bad men while she is on vacation. Starting with nothing more than a recorded phone call, Brian sets out on a mission to find his daughter and bring her home safe, no matter what it takes.
Avengers: Infinity War
Earth's mightiest heroes must face their greatest challenge when Thanos arrives on Earth in search of the final infinity stones to carry out his plan: to eliminate half of all life in the universe. Only the Avengers can stop him, but after the events of Civil War, they have mostly lost touch.
Looper
In the future, there is a group of specialized hitmen known as loopers. these hitmen take out targets sent into the past from the future, and eventually must take out their older selves as well. However, when one looper fails to take out his older self in time, he must find him and take him out before it is too late.
Raiders of the Lost Ark
In the first film in the famous Indiana Jones trilogy, Dr. Jones is tasked with locating the ark of the covenant, a powerful artifact that is believed to grant supernatural powers. Together with the help of his allies Marion and Sallah, Jones sets out on a globe-trotting mission to find the ark before some very bad people do first.
Black Panther
After the loss of his father, T'Challa returns to the nation of Wakanda to take his place on the throne. T'Challa is also the hero known as Black Panther, sworn to protect Wakanda from those who would bring harm to its borders. Unfortunately, a new threat emerges in the form of a Wakandan citizen named Erik Killmonger, who wants the throne for himself.
Independence Day
When a race of aliens finds its way to Earth, humanity must band together to take them on and stop the invasion. among them are a pilot, a computer expert, and even a farmer who claims that he once was taken by the exact same group of aliens. Though the odds seem insurmountable, the humans make their stand.
Men In Black
After a New York cop finds himself embroiled in a conflict that extends beyond Earth's borders, he is enlisted into a group of people whose job it is to monitor all alien life on the planet. Paired with a veteran agent, the cop is given a new identity and a new sense of purpose in facing the alien threat.
