Romantic Comedies are those films you put on if you just need to witness a love story unfold in the most genuine, perfect, usually comical manner. Some rom coms are done in a way where the human is in the way that the two love interests express their extreme distaste toward each other. Such as in 10 Thing I Hate About You where dangerous Pat initially only asks out Kat because he is paid to do it. She can’t be bothered with him either, which results in him needing to actually put some effort in. Other rom coms are more adventurous by nature, such as taking a spontaneous trip together – such as Letters to Juliet where she follows a love story without realizing she was on a journey of finding her own. Others are the epitome of fairy tales where the love interests leave it up to fate to find their way back to each other. And of course, against all odds they always do. If you are a true love story enthusiast, then you likely have a certain “kind” of rom com that you always seem to be putting on. Let us guess your zodiac sign by which of these rom coms you give a “love” and which you give a “pass.”
The Proposal
The Proposal is about a very head strong boss who has just found out she is going to be deported. She forces her assistant to pretend to be her fiance so that she may stay and not lose her career. Together they travel to his family home in Alaska to prove their love.
Bridget Jones's Diary
Bridget Jones’s Diary is a film about an independent woman who desires to take control of her life. She somehow falls into a classic love triangle with her boss and family friend. With her family friend, the two point out the worst things about one another, and her boss is a notorious womanizer.
10 Things I Hate About You
10 Things I Hate About You is a film about a cynical teenager who can’t be bothered to drool over boys. Her younger sister is only allowed to date if she does, so the popular boy at school pays the mysterious student to take the older sister on a date. She is not shy when it comes to showing her lack of affection.
Hitch
Hitch is about a man who is a professional “date guru” where he helps men find love – focusing on the ones who have had low success settling down with a woman. When working with one of his clients he meets a woman which he can’t seem to connect with. He quickly realizes that he might need his own advice to get this girl.
50 First Dates
50 First Dates is about a man who isn’t very good when it comes to long term commitment. After he meets a woman who has short-term memory loss, he dedicates his time to giving her the perfect first date each new day.
13 Going on 30
13 Going on 30 is about a young teenage girl who is tired of being a dorky, underdeveloped kid. She makes a wish, and when she wakes up she is an adult with everything she has ever wanted. Well, not everything. She quickly learns that she had lost touch with her best friend.
Love Actually
Love Actually is a film that follows ten different love stories which all have their own way of intertwining with each other. Some include couples that are already together and are struggling, some are married with children but find they are unsatisfied in their relationship. This flick has a bunch of different relationship combinations.
27 Dresses
27 Dresses is about a girl who is always the one supporting the bride at her wedding, never actually the one finding love. Everyone loves to have her help plan their wedding because she’s such a good friend. She struggles to be a perfect bridesmaid when she realizes she’s falling in love with her sister’s future husband.
P.S I Love You
P.S I Love You is about a young couple who constantly bicker about not moving forward in their relationship. Out of nowhere, her husband dies of a terminal illness and she is left lost and alone – not even leaving her apartment. On her birthday, a package arrives with a tape of her late husband, where she receives letters that help her move on.
A Walk to Remember
A Walk to Remember is about a rebellious teenager who winds up getting in trouble with the law. He is forced to change his lifestyle at school or face academic punishment. He meets a girl who he never really noticed, and the two start bonding. She agrees to help him with the play if he promised to not fall in love with her.
He’s Just Not That Into You
He’s Just Not That Into You is a film about a series of different couples who are more or less dealing with romantic problems. Gigi is one of the main characters and she always seems to embarrass herself my misreading men’s intentions with her. She seeks the advice of a local bartender, whom she calls all hours to help her with her love life.
John Tucker Must Die
John Tucker Must Die is about a womanizer who secretly dates women from different cliques. After his current girlfriends discover this sad truth, they decide the best way to get their revenge is to give him a taste of their own medicine. They use the new girl to make his suffer, only he begins to fall in love with her which was not the plan.
Life As We Know It
Life As We Know It is about a girl and a guy who somehow become the adoptive parents to their best friend’s baby who have unfortunately died in an accident. The two do not get along that way being that they are complete opposites. But they decide to live in a house together to try and raise the baby for the sake of their deceased friends.
Friends With Benefits
Friends With Benefits is about a platonic friendship who believe there would be no harm adding a physical element to their friendship. Living a no-strings-attached relationship, the two begin to form obvious romantic feelings for the other, but deny any such thing because of their previous agreement to their friendship.
She’s the Man
She’s the Man is a teen film about a girl who is determined to prove herself to be just as good as a man when it comes to soccer. She has her friend change her appearance and she pretends to be her brother who is out of town. Her male roommate helps her with her soccer skills in exchange that “he” will help her get a girl he’s interested in. The only problem is she starts to fall for her roommate instead.
You Again
You Again is a film about a woman who has grown out of her dorky teenage features and has done very well for herself. She returns home for her brother’s wedding, only to learn he is getting married to her teenage bully. Afraid to reveal their past, she tries her best to be the better person but each event it becomes clearer that her bully remembers exactly who she is.
Just Go With It
Just Go With It is about a plastic surgeon who pretends he is in an unhealthy marriage to pick up women – and avoid any long term commitment. After he spends the night with a woman he really likes, he convinces her that he is getting divorced. Needing a fake wife, he recruits a woman from his office who knows all about his schemes.
Easy A
Easy A is about a teenage girl who lies about her virginity to her best friend to get out of having to hang with her friend’s family. She tells her secret to a friend, who asks her to fake getting with him in order to not be bullied for his sexuality. One after another, guys asks her to pretend to have been with them too in order to gain popularity and she begins to get a reputation.
The Wedding Planner
The Wedding Planner is about a determined, sophisticated woman who works more on helping women plan their perfect woman than ever considering her own love life. Her father tries to set her up with her childhood friend, but she’s not interested. She meets a handsome man who saves her from a dumpster crash, and later discovers he is the fiance to her newest client.
Letters to Juliet
Letters to Juliet is about a woman who is on vacation with her fiancé where she responds to a love letter that had been lost for 50 years. When the woman returns to Italy with her grandson to try and find her love, the three man plans to search together. The grandson expresses his distaste towards the situation, and the woman and he often bicker about love and relationships, not realizing they were falling in love themselves.
Serendipity
Serendipity is about a man and a woman who try to buy the last pair of gloves at a store. Despite both being in relationships, they have dessert together. They go their separate ways only to run into each other again. Wondering if it may be fate, she puts her phone number on a five dollar bill and he puts his inside a book. If they come across the other’s number, then their love is meant to be.
Clueless
Clueless is about a bratty teenage girl named Cher who believes that long term relationships are worthless. Her ex-step brother comes to town and he reminds her just how superficial and lonely her life is. She spends her time “giving back” to the world by playing matchmaker, although it doesn’t always work. Her latest victim begins to rise in popularity and is interested in Cher’s ex step-brother, but Cher tells her that he wouldn’t be interested.
Legally Blonde
Legally Blonde is about a ditsy woman who thought her long-time boyfriend was going to propose. Instead, he ended things with her because she just wasn’t “smart enough.” Determined to prove him wrong, she applied to Law School and miraculously got in. Even though she was a student, he still didn’t think that she really had what it took. The only one who really believed in her was an upper student who gives her advice on how to handle the professors.
Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging
Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging is about a teenage girl who has eyes for the new boy. Her best friend has started to date his older brother, and she asks her to get information on the younger brother. Before she can even get her chance, she learns that he is seeing one of her school rivals. This doesn’t stop her from trying to pursue him.
Dirty Dancing
Dirty Dancing is a film about a naive girl named Baby who stumbles upon a secret dance held by the staff members of the resort she is staying at. She is intrigued by the art of it, and volunteers to fill in for a dancer while she has procedure on the same day of a performance. Her instructor Johnny doesn’t think she has it in her, but after a few trial session the two begin to move as one.
Notting Hill
Notting Hill is a romantic comedy between a simple small bookstore owner and a famous actress. She stumbles into his bookstore one day and the two somehow manage to fall into a heavy love affair. Unfortunately, her attitude can sometimes hinder their relationship because they have such contrasting lifestyles.
500 Days of Summer
500 Days of Summer is about a man who claims the title of a hopeless romantic. He is deeply in love with a woman named Summer when out of the blue she ends their relationship. He tries to recall what went wrong in their relationship by backtracking all of the days they spent together.
The Ugly Truth
The Ugly Truth is about an independent woman who thrives in her work space. Her love life is put into question when a new host is brought onto her TV production team and starts talking about relationships – commenting on hers in particular. He decides to help his co host to be more attractive and appealing to other men.
Sweet Home Alabama
Sweet Home Alabama is about a southern girl who has lost touch with her roots. She moved away to become a big fashion designer, pretending her old life didn’t exist. When she gets engaged to a man in politics, she is forced to return home and make amends with her “husband.”
She’s All That
She’s All That is about the most popular guy in senior year being dared to make a random nobody worthy of becoming prom queen. His friends pick a geeky artist named Laney who is not even the slightest bit interested that a popular guy is asking her out.
Grease
Grease is a classic drama film about a sweet innocent girl who spent the summer with the guy of her dreams. When they all return to school, she learns that the guy she spent the summer with was a phony – and is really a rude, insensitive guy. He tries to win her back by being sensitive and sweet when no one is looking.
Silver Linings Playbook
Silver Linings Playbook is about a guy who was admitted into a psych hospital after he finds his wife cheating on him. He is let out on good behavior, but falls back into his old ways by trying to get in contact with his wife. A girl down the street makes a deal with him that if he’ll help her with a dance routine, she’ll help him talk to his wife.
Just Friends
Just Friends is about a former loser who turned his life around after a rejection. He was best friends with the most popular girl in school, but she ultimately friend zoned him. Ten years later, he lost a ton of weight and became a self-absorbed womanizer. He returns to his hometown, still in love with his old best friend.
Sydney White
Sydney White is a modern twist on the Disney classic “Snow White.” It’s about a tomboy girl who is starting her first year in college – where she is trying to get into the same sorority her mother was once in. The head of the sorority is jealous Sydney talking to her ex-boyfriend, so uses her power to kick her out of the sorority – leaving her no choice but to move into a broken sorority with seven dorky guys.
How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days
How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days is about a newspaper writer who decides to step outside of her comfort zone and participate in an article to see if it can actually happen. They find a man to be the other person for the experiment, not realizing he is convinced he can make a woman fall in love with him in the same amount of time.
