Only A Real Pokemon Trainer Can Pick The Best Attacks To Win These Matches!

Hold it right there! You're not about to wander off into that tall grass, are you? There are wild Pokemon out there. You'll need your own in order to defend yourself.

Oh, wait, you already have Pokemon with you. That's our mistake. We see a lot of would-be trainers out here who underestimate the dangers of wild Pokemon. These magical beasts are our friends, to some extent. That's only when they're tamed, though - when they're ours. In dealings with wild Pokemon, all bets are off. You need to treat each encounter like it might escalate without warning.

Thankfully, since you're a trainer, you already know that. We're sure you don't go anywhere without your Pokeballs strapped to your belt. But is that enough?

You know how to defend yourself, but how good are you at doing that? Pokemon battles go fathoms deep, after all. There are layers of rules and details which you may or may not know by now.

At a fundamental level, a Pokemon's typing, as well as the typing of their attacks and their opponent's, goes a long way in determining the outcome of a match. If you can choose the super effective attacks as often as possible, the odds are dipped in your favor.

So, trainer, how often can you do that here? Let's find out.

Question 1

A wild Kingler appeared!

It looks like you've run into a wild Kingler while you were surfing around, and you're about to get into an epic battle. This Water-type Pokemon might be tough, but as you know, there's an assortment of super effective attacks at your disposal that you can choose to win. Of course, if your aim is to catch this beast, you might want to use weaker attacks instead. But that's not your aim here, is it? Choose the super effective move.

Question 2

A wild Venomoth appeared!

You nailed that Kingler, and that's good on you. That mighty crab has taken down its share of trainers before. But here, we have a totally new challenge. Venomoth hovers slightly overground, ready with an arsenal of dangerous powders that can paralyze your Pokemon, put them to sleep, or even poison them. You don't want any of that to go down, so it's important that you choose the super effective move here. Do so, and this nasty moth will drop in one hit.

Question 3

A wild Houndour appeared!

Houndour is here, and its evidently angry. What does a raging hell beast have to be angry about, anyway? Regardless of that, you're about to see exactly how mad it is through an explosive Pokemon battle. Be wary of its Fire Blast attack, both for your Pokemon and yourself. It's best to put this dog down as soon as possible so no one gets hurt. Which of these moves do you think will drop Houndour? A real trainer knows for sure.

Question 4

A wild Ekans appeared!

There's a snake in the grass! Ekans has emerged, and it's ready to poison something. Thankfully, we're not encountering this snake's evolved form, Arbok. If that were the case, we might have to bump our next appointment a little bit. Still, just because we're dealing with a pre-evolved form right now, that's no reason to underestimate this crazy little 'mon. One bite, and your Pokemon can possibly flinch, leaving them vulnerable. It's best to unleash a super effective move before that can happen.

Question 5

A wild Zapdos appeared!

Boy oh boy. After wandering around the power plant for a while, you've run into the legendary bird Pokemon Zapdos, and it's angry that you've woken it up. Don't gawk for too long at this amazing beast, since it's obviously powerful enough to zap this whole place down to cinders. If you're thinking of catching Zapdos, you'll have to do that on your own time, in-game. For now, we're only concerned with how savvy a trainer you are. Pick the most effective move.

Question 6

A wild Gyarados appeared!

Gyarados is cruising over the surface of the lake, not doing anything much at all. Looks like it's a shiny, red Gyarados, too, a rare find. It's a shame that this 'mon is about to go down in a blaze of glory. That is, if you're able to pick the super effective move, of course. If not, all you'll do is anger this legendary sea creature, and there's no coming back from something like that. Which move will you choose?

Question 7

A wild Greninja appeared!

How did you find a Greninja? This is a fully evolved starter Pokemon, and they don't tend to show up in the tall grass. Anyway, now that Greninja's here, let's see if we can make it faint in one blow. This frog ninja has amazing attack stats and incredible speed, not to mention its Protean ability that boosts its every move. Despite its offensive presence, Greninja normally can't take a hit to the chin. Which move are you going with?

Question 8

A wild Absol appeared!

Out of all Pokemon that we could have possibly run into, Absol is surely one of the most dangerous. One look at its gigantic attack stat is enough to make you gulp audibly. However, let's not forget how frail this dark beast is. One super effective move timed correctly, and it's lights out for Absol. You'll need to choose your attack quickly, because Absol looks ready to deliver a Knock Off attack. That'll send your Pokemon straight to Nurse Joy.

Question 9

A wild Teddiursa appeared!

We could use a break after that confrontation with Absol, but looks like that's going to have to wait. It seems like a little teddy bear has wandered from the forest into our camp site, and it wants to battle. Or maybe it just wants some hugs. In any case, we're going to battle it. Let's just get this over with quickly. Teddiursa might not be much of a threat, but stick around too long and we'll be seeing a fully evolved, very angry Ursaring.

Question 10

A wild Dragonair appeared!

Looks like another battle is about to unfold. We got off lucky again, since this Dragonair could have otherwise been a Dragonite. If that were the case, you and all your Pokemon would be spending the afternoon at the Pokemon center, depending the caliber of trainer you are, of course. Since this is Dragonair, though, there's still a chance to make it out of here unscathed. You'll just have to press the right button. Which of these moves effects Dragonair most?

Question 11

A wild Flareon appeared!

It's the fiery Eeveelution, Flareon! Don't be fooled by how cute this little animal is - if it lands the right Fire type attack on your Pokemon, they'll need daily aloe vera applications for weeks. It's best to act accordingly right now so we can avoid that. While Flareon is strong, it has weaknesses, just like any other Pokemon. Exploit them, and we'll make it out of here alright. Before Flareon can ready its Flare Blitz, knock it out in one hit.

Question 12

A wild Lucario appeared!

Lucario is ready for battle, and it has its eyes set on your Pokemon. This is a natural born fighter, so you'll need to use all your Pokemon knowledge to win. Remember that Lucario isn't just a Fighting type Pokemon, so its weaknesses won't be as evident as, say, Machamp's. Still, it is susceptible to certain moves, and its defensive stats don't exactly give it a good cushion for blows. Choose the right move, and we'll be able to move on in no time.

Question 13

A wild Slowbro appeared!

Slowbro might be slow, but don't underestimate it. If you run away, and Slowbro wants to stop you, it can simply access the psychic plain and lift you right up into the air, placing you in front of it again. We might be faced with an infinite loop of that, so let's get this over with right now. Slowbro is bulky, but it can be beaten if you wear it down with a super effective move. Which of these works best against Slowbro?

Question 14

A wild Aipom appeared!

Aipom doesn't mess around, despite what the smile on its face might suggest. Once it locks its gaze on you for an epic Pokemon battle, it won't take "No" for an answer, partly because it doesn't understand the meaning of the word. Instead of trying to run away, it's best to stand right there and face this threat head on. Being a Normal type, Aipom has one key weakness, and what a weakness it is. Which of these moves will you choose?

Question 15

A wild Seaking appeared!

Seaking is seeking a battle, and you're the trainer it choose. If you weren't ready for this confrontation, well, you shouldn't have been in the water. Now that we're here, there's only one thing left to do: battle it out like it's the last battle you'll ever have. If you choose the correct super effective attack, Seaking will be sleeping with the fishes tonight. If not, you and your party members might have a rude awakening. Come on, don't lose to Seaking.

Question 16

A wild Mewtwo appeared!

We hope that the Seaking battle warmed you up, because a legendary Pokemon has just knocked on the door. It's Mewtwo, and he wants to fight. There's nowhere to run, and you're not sure if your Pokemon are ready for this freak of a 'mon. The only thing left to do is face this ultimate challenge and prove your value as a Pokemon trainer. One of these attacks will take a chunk out of Mewtwo's HP, and it might be enough to give you a chance here.

Question 17

A wild Staryu appeared!

Does this Staryu belong to Misty? Doesn't look like it. Misty's Staryu is noble and fights for the greater good. However, this Staryu just look like it wants to start some stuff. Might as well give it what it's looking for, right? After all, there's a super effective move you can choose here that'll send this star back to its constellation. Just don't miss, otherwise you might get your phone wet. Pick the right attack so we can move on.

Question 18

A wild Entei appeared!

After what seems like such a short while, we have another confrontation with a legendary Pokemon. It's Entei, the volcanic beast of Johto. This elusive creature usually runs away immediately when a trainer finds it in the tall grass, but that doesn't seem like the case today. Entei wants to battle, and it wants to do that right now. Before it can strike you down with its fire attacks, you'll have to knock it out first with your super effective move.

Question 19

A wild Blastoise appeared!

This tanking behemoth has somehow been released into the wild grass and is messing with trainers left and right. Before it can cause too much chaos, you'll have to step in and put it to sleep. Blastoise can generate a tremendous amount of pressure with those two cannons on its shell, but its speed is relatively lacking. That means you'll be able to knock it out in one blow if you can choose the right move, doing so before it can hit you.

Question 20

A wild Scizor appeared!

Oh no, it's Scizor! Not only does this crazy Pokemon have a busted Attack stat, it also has some ridiculous bulk to boot. On top of that, its typing seems to allow no weaknesses at all! How can that be possible? Surely there's a move you can choose that will knock it out in one blow? Oh wait, there is. Take a closer look at your Pokedex and you'll see what it is. If you can't figure it out, Scizor might finish you.

Question 21

A wild Vileplume appeared!

A wild Vileplume appeared, and it means business. This might not seem like the most violent Pokemon, and normally it isn't. However, this one seems very angry. You didn't step on it thinking that its head was a comfortable step pillow, did you? Because that wouldn't make sense. Anyway, before it can put you and your Pokemon to sleep, you'll need to hit Vileplume with the best attack you've got. Take it out now, so we can move past this silly forest.

Question 22

A wild Snorlax appeared!

As we were trying to make it past the silly forest, we've encountered a wild Snorlax, and a sleeping one at that. This scene seems all too familiar... anyway, we can't be waiting around here all day for Snorlax to wake up. Instead, it's best to make it faint with one move, a super effective one. If we can do that, we'll be in the exact same predicament as we are right now, but at least you'll be one step closer to passing this quiz.

Question 23

A wild Machoke appeared!

A wild Machoke has appeared, and it wants to choke one of your Pokemon! A certain type of trainer would be running away instead of allowing the possibility for a Pokemon of theirs to be choked, and other trainers would stand up and fight right here and now. Since you have no choice but to battle, we're anxious to see how you protect your Pokemon from getting choked by Machoke. Perhaps a super effective attack can get you out of here safely.

Question 24

A wild Metapod appeared!

Oh no! You've encountered a wild... Metapod. How this little thing even got here, we can't really say. There's no legs or anything, and it just doesn't seem to move. One day this thing will become a beautiful Butterfree, but that day is not today. On this day, it might be best to put it to sleep for a little while by choosing your most effective move. Not that it would take a super effective attack to knock this thing out.

Question 25

A wild Ampharos appeared!

You didn't think this quiz would be all Metapods, did you? No, there's some real danger in our challenge. For example, here's Ampharos, the mighty thunder sheep. Ampharos is normally a docile Pokemon, but like any other, it drops all etiquette when a battle is about to unfold. If you can't figure out the right move on time, you and your Pokemon might be irreversibly shocked. If you can, you might just make it through this thing after all. Go ahead.

Question 26

A wild Arcanine appeared!

Out of all possible Pokemon you could have run into in the tall grass, you happened upon an Arcanine. Great, now we're in for a serious beat down. Arcanine doesn't have a weak stat on it, and some of its attributes are super strong. It's an all around monster, and it might take down your whole team if you can't remember what you learned at the Pokemon academy. If you can recall Arcanine's weakness, you'll be able to choose the right move here.

Question 27

A wild Pineco appeared!

You definitely need a break after that crazy Arcanine match. Oh look, it's a pine tree. Here, eat a pine cone. Ah! That's not a pine cone, it's a Pineco! And it's very mad that you woke it up and took a bite off its head. For justice, it wants to take a bite out of your Pokemon. Since you don't want that to happen, it's best to choose the super effective move right here and now. Then we can finish eating Pineco.

Question 28

A wild Golbat appeared!

Look to the skies! It's a crazy Golbat flapping around, and it's about to land for an epic battle. If Golbat sinks its fangs into one of your party members, they might be in super bad shape till you can get them to Nurse Joy's office. However, Golbat doesn't have the best defenses, and its typing leaves it open to a few super effective moves. Thankfully, one of your party members has access to one of those moves. Choose it now.

Question 29

A wild Sableye appeared!

It looks like Sableye was hiding behind a rock for our entire battle with Golbat, waiting for its opportunity to come out and spook us. It worked, but now we have to battle to regain some honor. Sableye might be a small Pokemon, but don't let that fool you. It has a host of tricks up its sleeve that can catch you off guard if you're not prepared. Furthermore, this 'mon only has one weakness. Can you guess which attack typing works best?

Question 30

A wild Ditto appeared!

Just as we thought we were done with the weirdness of the day, a pink blob has crawled out to us from the tall grass. Of course, like most other wild Pokemon, it's about to attack you with everything it has. If you can evade Ditto's tricks, you'll be able to move on here. If not, it'll beat you down with likenesses of your own 'mons. Ditto's weaknesses change depending on who it transforms into, but which attack works best on its normal typing?

Question 31

A wild Shuckle appeared!

It's Shuckle, so you know what that means. We're in for a long, drawn out battle, especially if this thing's a Toxic staller with Rest. If that's the case, we still might make it out of here on time for lunch if we can land the right super effective move. Of course, since it's Shuckle, we might have to hit that move a few times in a row in order for it to work. Choose the right move below, and we'll move on.

Question 32

A wild Rhydon appeared!

In case you thought you'd be finishing this quiz off with a string of relaxing battles with Shuckle, you were wrong. The Pokemon world wishes to apply a bit of pressure here, and has faced you off against a towering Rhydon. This boulder rhinoceros might seem invincible at first, but there are a few attacks you can choose to take it out completely. If you can choose that move now, you'll soon feel the ground shake a little as Rhydon falls.

Question 33

A wild Pichu appeared!

Thankfully, we get a break from the towering behemoths by facing this cute little thunder mouse right here. Pichu does have access to some electric powers, but it's so weak that each of its attacks actually hurt it (at least in Melee). This doesn't look like the type of battle that puts you in danger, so we won't bother supervising. Simply choose the right move, and poor little Pichu can rest up with a long nap in the tall grass.

Question 34

A wild Clefairy appeared!

A wild Clefairy has appeared, and it seems to be wagging its fingers at you. Maybe it's giving you the double finger, or maybe it's doing something else. Wait, its fingers are lighting up. Oh no! Go ahead and choose the most super effective move on Clefairy so we can see some justice. Don't be shy to bust out one of your legendary Pokemon if you want to.

Question 35

A wild Rapidash appeared!

Rapidash is charging, and its charging straight for your team members. You thought you could make it out of this challenge without having to face another fire-type destroyer, but you were wrong once more. After all, there are few better ways to test a trainer's might than to pair them up against a raging mustang on fire. Since it's pretty obvious which move works best on Rapidash, we won't bother giving you too many clues. Simply click the right button.

Question 36

A willd Mantine appeared!

It's Mantine, the best of the sea and the skies. Mantine's typing is convenient for some reasons and a huge liability for others. If you're a well-versed Pokemon trainer, you'll know exactly which type of move can send Mantine crying back home to its mother. We hope you can figure this one out, because if you can't, Mantine will Defog and remove all those hazards you worked so hard to set up. Avoid all that by removing Mantine from the battle in one hit.

Question 37

A wild Ferrothorn appeared!

Out of all defensive behemoths we could have run into, we happened upon one of the most powerful Pokemon of them all. If Ferrothorn looks scary to you, multiply your fear by ten and you'll have a more realistic assessment of its potential threat level. If you don't hit Ferrothorn with the only type of move that is super effective against it, it may very well sap your whole team of its health, one small, sweet HP point at a time.

Question 38

A wild Parasect appeared!

Just when you thought you were done with the shenanigans, a wild Parasect has happened upon your camp site and wants to put you and your Pokemon right to sleep. Why it wants to do that, we can't exactly say. But we do know that Parasect has access to Spore, which is the only 100% accurate sleep move in the entire game. If you allow Parasect to attack you at all, your Pokemon will be sleeping, so it's best to faint this 'mon on the first turn.

Question 39

A wild Electrode appeared!

Instead of running into any normal looking Pokemon, you've managed to find an Electrode for yourself in the tall grass. That's fine, but this Electrode just doesn't know who its messing with. Since you're well familiar with the members of the original 151 Pokemon roster, you know exactly which move will turn Electrode's electrons off. Choose that move now, and you won't have to worry about being stuck here in the tall grass in a state of total physical paralysis.

Question 40

A wild Aerodactyl appeared!

Aerodactyl has been resurrected from its fossil form, and it flew directly to you in order to test your might as a trainer. This flying beast might rain attacks down from above, but don't let that intimidate you. Like any Pokemon that came before it or will come after it, Aerodactyl has at least one defensive weakness that you can exploit. It also has low defenses, which means one move might be all it takes to take it out effectively.

Question 41

A wild Nidorina appeared!

A wild Nidorina has shown up to confront you, for whatever reason. You didn't mess with it or its family, did you? In any case, we suppose this could be much worse than it is. For instance, you could be facing Nidoqueen instead of Nidorina, which would put you and your Pokemon in serious danger. Still, let's remember that this little monster can still poison one of your Pokemon if you let your guard down. Keep your guard up and attack wisely.

Question 42

A wild Gensect appeared!

A wild Genesect has shown up, and in case you didn't know, this is a legendary Pokemon. That means that its stats are high to an almost exaggerated level, and it also has an incredible typing that gives it the advantage in almost any situation. Only a real trainer can choose the right attack to send this Pokemon back to whatever lab it came from. If you can't figure that attack out, Genesect might be responsible for your Pokemon Center trip this evening.

Question 43

A wild Weezing appeared!

Just when we thought we were through with almost getting poisoned, a wild Weezing appeared. This strange monstrosity of a Pokemon might be slow, and its attack stat might not be the highest, but there is still grave danger to be faced here. Be wary of which move you choose, since Weezing's ability gives it a key immunity to a certain type of move that it would otherwise be vulnerable against. However, there are still some ways that you can take this monster down.

Question 44

A wild Tyranitar appeared!

We're at the last stretch of our quiz, and this just might be the greatest challenge yet. Tyranitar is an incredibly powerful Pokemon, and its ability to summon a Sandstorm at the start of every battle is the least of your worries. Instead, you should be concerned with the possibility of your Pokemon fainting in one blow from one of its deadly attacks. Instead of that happening, it's probably best that you make it faint first with one of yours.

Question 45

A wild Charmander appeared!

Now that we're done with Tyranitar, it's time for a well-needed break. Wait, that doesn't mean you can lie down and take a nap, it only means we'll be pairing you up with a pre-evolved form: Charmander. This little tyke is nowhere near as powerful as the Charizard it will one day become, which is good news for you. However, let's not forget that fire is hot, and one move from this little guy can give your 'mons a serious burn.

Question 46

A wild Crawdaunt appeared!

As a sort of successor to Kingler, the original crab Pokemon from Red and Blue, here's Crawdaunt. This new iteration of the crab Pokemon might not be as iconic or classic as Kingler is, but boy, does it ever pack a punch. If it hits the right move against you, your Pokemon will undoubtedly be in a coma, waiting to be awoken by Nurse Joy. In all cases, it's best that you put it to sleep first by choosing the super effective move.

Question 47

A wild Zekrom appeared!

Zekrom wants a battle, and it has its gaze set on you. It's not often that a wild, legendary Pokemon wants to spar with a trainer, so consider yourself lucky. Maybe Zekrom sees a real challenge in you and wants to see what you've got, or maybe it sees weakness and wants to spend some idle time beating your party up. In any case, you're going to have to battle quite imminently, so choosing the right super effective move is important.

Question 48

A wild Sylveon appeared!

If you haven't been keeping track of the later Pokemon generations, you might have missed this Fairy type Eeveelution. Indeed, if you've been out of the loop for long enough, you might have even missed Game Freak's addition of the Fairy type to the Pokemon battling system. In any case, Sylveon is here now, and it wants to see what you've got to challenge it. If you can pull the right move off, even this strong Eeveelution will be dreaming of Eevee.

Question 49

A wild Jellicent appeared!

After all the aquatic confrontation that we've had in this quiz, you still fancy a dip in the dangerous waters every now and then. That's all on you, but know that if you continue to swim, you're likely to have to face monsters like Jellicent in the water. If you're not packing the right super effective move, you'll be in grave danger, in no time at all. Let's see if you can prove your worth as a trainer - choose the best move.

Question 50

A wild Landorus appeared!

Our final challenge is the mighty Landorus, legendary earth beast of the skies. In competitive play, this Pokemon is so powerful that it's banned to the highest tier where all the other broken Pokemon are. Even at that, however, Landorus has one key weakness that puts it at constant risk of being OHKO'd. You'll need to choose it on the first go in order to make it out of this one. Press this final button, and we'll see how savvy a trainer you really are.
