The Vampire Diaries is a TV series that aired on The CW from 2009 to 2017 and revolves around the fictional town of Mystic Falls. Mystic Falls is a small town in Virginia that has a long history with the supernatural. Some of the people living in Mystic Falls are more than well aware of the fact that vampires, werewolves, and witches have been roaming the streets with the humans there for a long, long time. One person who isn't aware of this fact is the main character, Elena Gilbert. But she becomes aware of the vampires in her hometown after she meets a new student at school named Stefan Salvatore who she finds out isn't actually new to Mystic Falls because he's a vampire who lived there over 150 years ago.
In The Vampire Diaries, Elena finds herself torn between Stefan and his vampire brother Damon. Viewers definitely had a preference between who they wanted Elena to end up with, either because of who they liked her better with or just who they liked better in general. Both the brothers are definitely charming, so we can't blame Elena for being torn between the two of them!

The Vampire Diaries or The Originals?
The Originals is the spin-off series that began while The Vampire Diaries was still airing and continued to air for a year after The Vampire Diaries ended. The Originals follows the Mikaelson family, the family that makes up the Original Vampires. In the series, the Mikaelson family has moved from Mystic Falls to New Orleans and have all kinds of supernatural trouble to deal with. There are witches, vampires, and werewolves and the Mikaelson family has got their hands full! Which would you rather watch?
Live in Mystic Falls in the 1800s or in the present day?
Most of The Vampire Diaries is set in the present day. Elena is the main character in the series and she's living in the small town in the present day, meaning that most of the action of the series takes place there too. But in order to add some context to some pieces of the store and add depth to some of the older characters like the Salvatore brothers and Katherine, there are quite a few flashbacks to the 1800s and even earlier!
Be BFFs with Caroline or Bonnie?
Throughout the course of The Vampire Diaries, Elena is actually really lucky. We know, this might sound strange considering some of the things she went through during the series that most people would definitely not consider lucky, but just think about it! Elena had so many awesome friends and family members on her side to help her through all the different things going on in her life. Two of her best friends in the series are Caroline Forbes and Bonnie Bennett.
Be a vampire or a human?
Unfortunately for us, the choice between these two types of creature has already been chosen for us. Since vampires aren't actually real, we're all stuck being humans. How boring, right? The people living in Mystic Falls are pretty lucky since they have the chance of becoming a vampire, something much more interesting and glamorous. While being a vampire seems like it would be a ton of fun, The Vampire Diaries definitely shows us that it isn't always easy! Would you want to be a vampire or a human?
Be able to become invisible or be able to turn into an animal?
Vampires have all kinds of awesome special powers that unfortunately, us humans just don't get to experience! How unfair is that? In the earlier parts of The Vampire Diaries, Damon shows that he has the awesome ability to turn into a crow. Vampires have other really cool powers throughout the series like Compulsion, too! There are a lot of reasons that being a vampire would be totally cool and those are just a few of them. Which of these powers would you rather have?
Live with Jenna or take a class from Alaric?
Even though a lot of The Vampire Diaries is focused on Elena, Stefan, and Damon, there are also a lot of other characters that make up important parts of the series as well! Two characters that are pretty important in the series are Jenna and Alaric. Alaric is introduced at first as the history teacher at the high school that the people of Mystic Falls attend but he becomes way more important later. Meanwhile, Jenna is Elena and Jeremy's aunt who they live with.
Be a Salvatore or be a Mikaelson?
In The Vampire Diaries, there are several different families. There are the Founding Families of Mystic Falls whose ancestors were among the first people to live in the town after it was founded, there are families that only recently moved to Mystic Falls, and there are supernatural families. Two of the most prominent supernatural families in The Vampire Diaries and The Originals are the Salvatores, made up most notably of Damon and Stefan, and the Mikaelson family, made up of the Original Vampires.
Be an Original Vampire or be a doppelgänger?
Anyone who has seen The Vampire Diaries will know that the different supernatural creatures in the series aren't quite as simple as saying they're a vampire or a human. There are also witches, werewolves, sirens, and other creatures in the series but on top of that, there are different kinds of vampires and humans. For instance, there are a family of vampires that are known as Original Vampires because they were the first ever vampires created. And although Elena is introduced as a human, she's a doppelgänger.
Be a vampire or vampire hunter?
This question is definitely one that isn't easy to answer! Because of the fact that there have been vampires living in Mystic Falls for so long, there have also been vampire hunters there for a long time as well. Unfortunately for vampires like the Salvatore brothers, many of the people in Mystic Falls aren't too friendly about the concept of living alongside a bunch of vampires. Uh oh! Because of that, there are vampire hunters that try to eliminate them from the town.
Babysit Hope or the twins?
Even though the majority of the characters in The Vampire Diaries are either adults or teenagers, there are still a few younger characters! This is especially true in the later parts of the season when the characters start to grow up a little and even start families of their own. Fans of both The Vampire Diaries and The Originals will definitely recognize three child character: Hope, Josie, and Lizzie, the last two being twins. Hope is Hayley and Klaus' daughter while Josie and Lizzie are Alaric's children that Caroline was a surrogate mother for.
Go to high school over and over or not?
Being a vampire means that you won't be aging which people might notice after a while, which means that you'll have to be moving away every few years in order to avoid suspicion. Many of the vampires in The Vampire Diaries, like Rebekah and Stefan, choose to re-enroll in high school even though they're hundreds or thousands of years old in order to try to live a normal life and to give them something to do. Would you go to high school over and over or not?
Be turned by Stefan or Klaus?
With the obvious exception of the Original Vampires, all vampires have been turned by another vampire at some point in their life. Some vampires in The Vampire Diaries were turned recently while others were turned quite some time ago. So, anyone who wants to be a vampire has to be turned by one. And in The Vampire Diaries, there are a lot of vampires. Several of them even turn the people of Mystic Falls during the series at some point.
Summer or winter?
Just about everyone has a favorite season in the year. Some people love the warm weather of the summertime. The sun being out and the weather being warm means it's a great time to go out and enjoy the outdoors and do things like go for a walk, ride a bike, go to the beach, or even have a picnic! In the winter, things get a little colder and it starts to snow which is the ideal weather for many people.
Wear a daylight ring or only go out at night?
Unlike in some vampire movies and works of fiction, the sunlight actually does harm to the vampires in The Vampire Diaries. But, anyone who has seen the show will remember that some vampires, like the Salvatore brothers, are able to outside because they have special pieces of jewelry that have been filled with magic in order to make any vampire that wears them able to safely go out into the sunlight without a worry. Would you rather wear one or stay inside until the sun goes down?
Hang out with Katerina Petrova or with Katherine Pierce?
Anyone who has seen The Vampire Diaries will probably be scratching their heads a little at this question, right? Technically speaking, Katerina Petrova and Katherine Pierce are the same character! Well... Sort of. Katerina Petrova is the name Katherine was born with back when she lived in Bulgaria in the 15th century, before she became a vampire. But, after she escaped and eventually made her way to Mystic Falls in the 19th century, she was going by the name Katherine Pierce and had totally made up a new life for herself.
Be BFFs with Katherine or Elena?
Even though Katherine and Elena are portrayed by the same actress, these two characters couldn't be more different. For one thing, Katherine is introduced to The Vampire Diaries as someone who has been a vampire for a really long time while Elena is still a human when she's introduced. Elena tends to be a lot more nice and even a little naive at times while Katherine tends to be more sarcastic and rough around the edges. Who would you rather be besties with?
Win Miss Mystic Falls or not even enter?
Miss Mystic Falls is a pageant held during the Founder's Day celebration in Mystic Falls. Since Mystic Falls is such a town full of all kinds of history, it's no surprise to anyone who has seen the series that the people living there take their history pretty seriously and love to celebrate the long history of the town. In the first season, the Founder's Day celebration is featured in an episode and Caroline is the winner of the Miss Mystic Falls pageant. Would you rather win or not even enter?
Be Emily or be Bonnie?
Even though Bonnie is the first of the Bennett witches that the viewers of The Vampire Diaries are introduced to in the series, fans of this show will know that she's certainly not the first one in her family. When she first realized that she might have magical powers, she turned to her grandma, Sheila, who is also a witch. Even before Sheila, Katherine Pierce was close to another witch in the Bennett family back in the 19th century named Emily.
Hang out with friends or spend free time alone?
Everyone has a way they like to spend their free time. Some people prefer to play video games, others like to listen to music, and some people like to play sports. There are a ton of other hobbies that people like to enjoy, whether they're by themselves or with friends, and just about everyone has their own personal favorite. Whether you prefer to hang out alone or surround yourself with friends and loved ones is a super personal choice. How do you spend your time?

Even though The Vampire Diaries is obviously focused around vampires for the most part, they're definitely not the only supernatural creature roaming the streets of Mystic Falls. Along with vampires, there are also other creatures like witches and werewolves and ghosts and sirens, among others. In fact, one of Elena's best friends, Bonnie Bennet, is a witch herself! Vampires may be in the title but they're definitely not the only supernatural creatures that appear in the series. Which of these would you rather be?
Be stuck in 1994 with Bonnie and Damon or be stuck in New Orleans with Klaus and Hayley?

Klaus is one character that is actually a mix of two different supernatural characters - a werewolf and a vampire! Pretty crazy, right? This makes Klaus what is known as a "hybrid" and, through the series, he wants to create more hybrids. Would you be one or stay human?
Be a young vampire or an old vampire?
A young vampire is a vampire that was just recently turned into a vampire. Being a young vampire means that you've had less time to get used to your new life as a vampire, which can lead to some pretty major complications. Being an old vampire means that you've been a vampire for quite a while, meaning that you know the ropes of the supernatural world and being a vampire is definitely something you're used to by now. Would you rather be a young vampire or an old vampire?
Get witch lessons from Bonnie or vampire lessons from Katherine?
Being a supernatural creature would definitely not be easy. As Bonnie finds out when she realizes she might have supernatural powers, there are a lot of things that a person has to learn once they realize they're a witch or after they're turned into a vampire or they become a werewolf. Luckily, people like Bonnie and Tyler had family members to help them with all their supernatural questions. Would you rather be a witch and get lessons from Bonnie or be a vampire and get lessons from Katherine?
Marry Klaus or marry Elijah?
Klaus and Elijah are two of the Original Vampires and, even though these two are siblings and both vampires, the two of them are pretty different. Anyone who has seen The Vampire Diaries or the spin-off series based on the Mikaelson family, The Originals, will definitely be familiar with the fact that these two brothers couldn't be more different in their attitudes. Because of this, many fans of each series definitely have a favorite Mikaelson brother. Which one would you rather marry?
Hang out with Lexi or hang out with Rebekah?
Lexi Branson and Rebekah Mikaelson are two vampires in The Vampire Diaries that have been around for quite a while. Even though the two of them are both blonde vampires that are introduced relatively early in The Vampire Diaries, the two of them are pretty different. Rebekah is one of the Original Vampires who wishes that she could be a human and often struggles with being a vampire. Lexi is a vampire who is introduced int he first season as Stefan's best friend and points out how much Elena resembles Katherine.
Be in Elena's family or Caroline's family?
Family is a large part of The Vampire Diaries for many different characters. For instance, Elena and Jeremy are siblings who recently lost their parents and now live with Jenna, their aunt. The real identity of Elena's parents is a pretty big deal in the series, as anyone who has watched it will know! On top of that, some sibling groups like the Mikaelson family or Damon and Stefan Salvatore play a large part in the series as well. Which of these families would you rather be part of?
Be a hybrid werewolf-vampire or be a hybrid witch-vampire?
Supernatural creatures on their own are spooky enough, right? But a combination of more than one supernatural creature? That's just crazy! Klaus Mikaelson is one of the Original Vampires but because of the fact that he also had the werewolf gene, he also became the Original Hybrid and was half-vampire and half-werewolf. He set out to create more hybrids who would work with him throughout the series. If you were going to be a hybrid, would you rather be a werewolf-vampire or a witch-vampire hybrid?
Be a good witch or a bad witch?
Being a witch living in Mystic Falls like Bonnie, Sheila, Emily, the other Bennett witches, or any of the other witches that appear in the series is a lot of pressure! It means having all kinds of awesome supernatural and magical powers that can be used to help your friends and other people in your life. Having all those powers means having a lot of decisions to make, like whether to use your magical powers for good or not. Would you be a good witch or a bad witch?
Cook for a vampire or see a movie with a werewolf?
A date night in Mystic Falls would definitely be interesting, right? Although in the real world, going on a date just means hanging out with another human, in the world of The Vampire Diaries, a date means that you might be paired up with a witch, a werewolf, a vampire, or another supernatural creature. Sounds pretty cool if you're into these types of creatures, doesn't it? If you were living in Mystic Falls, would you rather cook dinner for a vampire or see a movie with a werewolf?
Marry a vampire or be a vampire?
Now this is a question that isn't easy to answer! For fans of The Vampire Diaries, the idea of either being a vampire or marrying a favorite vampire from the series is such a tough choice. Even though we know that neither of these things are actually possible for us to have either of those things in our lives, we can still dream, right? If you had to pick between getting married to a vampire and actually being a vampire yourself, what would you pick?
Road trip with Damon or party with Stefan?
Even though we totally love both Salvatore brothers, anyone who has seen The Vampire Diaries will definitely know that these two brothers are totally different. They're both great characters and the show would be so different if one of the two of them was missing from it, but they're totally different from one another. This is definitely why people prefer one of the Salvatore brothers over the other! Would you rather go on a road trip with Damon or go to a party with Stefan?
Be a member of the Founding Families or be new to Mystic Falls?
Even though there are a lot of different supernatural creatures roaming around Mystic Falls and the suspenseful events of the present day are definitely at the forefront of The Vampire Diaries, that doesn't mean that the history of the town isn't just as important! People who have seen The Vampire Diaries will know that the citizens of Mystic Falls take their history seriously, especially when it comes to the Town Council and the members of the Founding Families of Mystic Falls.
Mystic Falls or New Orleans?
Most of The Vampire Diaries is set in Mystic Falls, either in the present day or back in the 19th century, shortly after the small town was founded, but there are also other locations that the series takes place in. In addition to those, the spin-off series, The Originals, takes place almost entirely in New Orleans where the Mikaelson family moved to. Mystic Falls is a small, close-knit town while New Orleans is a bigger city and even though they're both ripe with the supernatural, they're very different places.
Have a spa day with Bonnie or go to the library with Anna?
Even though most of The Vampire Diaries is focused on the supernatural events going on in the town, there's probably also some downtime in which people don't have to deal with vampires and werewolves on the loose, right? Those moments aren't really shown in the series because they wouldn't make the most entertaining episodes of a TV show, but we can't imagine that they don't exist. That means people have to find a way to fill their spare time. Which of these sounds best?
